LittleBigPlanet Creators ‘Stepping Away’ From Series To Pursue ‘New Ideas’

Media Molecule, the UK studio behind LittleBigPlanets big and small are taking a break from the PlayStation series that has spawned two PlayStation 3 games and one PSP game. They’re moving on to “new ideas,” according to the studio’s director.

Edge reports from Gamelab 2011 in Barcelona, citing Siobhan Reddy, who says the developer is “stepping away” from LittleBigPlanet to direct its focus elsewhere. There’s an LBP game in the works for Sony’s new PlayStation Vita, but that game is in the hands of developer Double Eleven Studios.

Don’t fret, though. Media Molecule says its not getting out of the Sackboy business entirely.

“Loyal sackfolk,” reads the studio’s official Twitter, “please be reassured that we will always be involved with LBP, at least a bit, and there’s lots more fun yet to come!” And then they put a little emoticon heart at the end to show they’re sincere.

After two LittleBigPlanet games on the PS3, I’m pretty OK with this. Let’s see what Media Molecule can cook up next.
