Last weekend I played BioShock Infinite. I played about six hours of it and felt very fatigued with the whole thing. I wasn’t enjoying the combat — that was the main thing. But I was really having a lot of issues with various parts of the game. Long story short, I found myself having a real crisis: everyone seemed to be in love with this game. Was I going crazy? Had I just become bitter about video games in general to the extent that I could enjoy nothing?
Then, of course, we started to see a broader range of opinions on the game, which made me feel like I wasn’t going crazy. On Sunday night, in an attempt to just take a break from BioShock Infinite — from reading about it, playing it, talking about it — and I picked up my 3DS for the first time in ages. I put in Luigi’s Mansion 2. And… wow.
What an incredible little game.
It was the perfect antidote to all the issues I had with BioShock Infinite. Small, crammed with detail. Charming, with a gorgeous art style. It’s a world where everything feels interactive, where the design feels seamless. I just loved it.
So that’s what I’ll be playing this weekend. When I get tired of having fun and prodding around with this gorgeous little video game, maybe I give BioShock Infinite a go again!
