Poor Duke. Once an A-list star of the FPS world, his long absence during the hellish development of Duke Nukem Forever — and the even more hellish end result of that — has tarnished his name.
As regretful as his latest title was, though, there are many who still harbour a soft spot for the man he used to be. And the engine his games used to run on.
And so we have Duke Nukem Forever 2013, a project that recreates much of the experience of DNF, only now it’s in the old engine from Duke Nukem 3D.
It’s amazing what a visual downgrade and a switch from creepy polygons to serviceable bitmap characters can do for a game.
