You laughed at Deadpool, X-Men Destiny, Spider-Man: Edge of Time and Activision’s other sloppy Marvel games. Bet you feel bad now that they’ve all been pulled from Steam, Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. Or not. Either way, they’re gone.
Nothing lasts forever, especially Activision contracts for Marvel games, as evidenced by 2010’s disappearance of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 and its corresponding downloadable content.
It’s the same deal here. After an end-of-year fire sale (via Dan Amrich’s Twitter), Activision has removed the following games from Steam, Xbox Live, PSN and anywhere else you might obtain a copy digitally.
- Deadpool
- Spider-Man: Edge of Time
- Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions
- Spider-Man: Friend or Foe
- Spider-Man: Web of Shadows
- X-Men Origins: Wolverine
- X-Men Destiny
- X-Men: The Official Game
Note that 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man is still available for purchase.
A big loss? Probably not. I wouldn’t have even noticed if not for a NeoGAF post on the subject. There are no more physical copies of the games being printed, but they’re all still available used and new on the cheap.

It’s not like any of these are bad titles – just not really memorable. So, I guess they go back to the House of Mouse. Why didn’t they just extend the contract? Activision seems keen to keep making Marvel titles.
I really enjoyed Spiderman: Web of Shadows, the free roam was pretty cool and symbiote storylines are always fun.
Deadpool was on sale on steam the other day, what happens to people who bought it?
Doesn’t worry me in the least since I didn’t but I’d be interested to know
You’ll still keep it, it’s just people can’t buy it off steam
It’s still in my libary. Just the listing is removed off steam store.
Most of these I understand, they’ve been around for a while, but Deadpool has only been out for about 6 months. You’d think they would have made sure they could keep selling it.
I wondered why xbox were advertising the marvel games as last chance sale last week
Not too interested but I heard Deadpool was a bit of a laugh. Oh well, that’s why hard copies are still important.
Even if you own a digital copy you can still uninstall and reinstall it. You just can’t buy a new copy. Digital or hard.
Oh yeah, I was meaning more that if I had a hankering to play it, I could always run down to JB 🙂
True until they have no more copies in stock. And fos ps3 and Xbox only.
Damn. Was going to buy Deadpool at the end of the Steam sale today.
Deadpool is hilarious. Glad I got it on steam sale a month or two ago. The rest, ah well but yeah nothing to memorable. Heck even the gameplay in Deadpool is average but damn the laughs make it worth it.
I still don’t get why? Surely the owner still wants to make money off these?
