Paul Verhoeven is an Australian comedian, TV dude and all round cool radio guy. You might know him as the host of ABC 3’s Steam Punks and as an owner of a fairly monstrously impressive beard. He also writes and talks plenty about video games. During a recent TEDx event in Australia he presented a talk about sexism in video games. It is, in turns, funny, insightful and a little bit depressing.
It focuses most of its discussion on Grand Theft Auto V and the gaming community’s response to criticism of the game for being sexist. It’s a topic that’s been discussed widely on Kotaku and other websites, but it’s well worth watching this video to remind yourself of precisely how terribly people can react to what was an absolutely legitimate and fair complaint.
Nice work Paul!
