In the video game industry, big publishers like to stick to strict marketing plans. Unlike, say, the film world, where directors and writers will frequently talk about their goals and future projects, video game companies typically won’t discuss their plans until the PR schedule says it’s ok.
This can lead to some ridiculous situations. Take the case of The Last of Us, last year’s critically-acclaimed PS3 game. Last night, in an interview on CNN Turkey’s Multiplayer TV program, PlayStation Turkey VP Sercan Sulun said The Last of Us would be coming to PS4 this summer. Not unexpected, or particularly surprising. A cool little announcement, really — and surely something that could excite PS4 owners who haven’t played Naughty Dog’s fantastic game yet.
IGN got a Turkish speaker to translate the interview:
There is no information about a new The Last of Us game but I can share this knowledge; as of this summer, The Last of Us will be on the PS4. Both on PSN and physically. The PS4 version will also include the DLC so you will be able to play ‘Left Behind’ as well.
Cool! But wait! This morning, Sony Europe sent over a bizarre statement to Eurogamer: “At no time have we announced that The Last of Us is coming to PS4 and therefore, have nothing to say on the subject.”
Wait… what?
There are two possibilities here:
1) Sulun is incorrect, and The Last of Us is not coming to PS4, in which case Sony probably could have just said that.
2) Sulun slipped up, and announced The Last of Us for PS4 before the PR schedule dictated that it was ok, and Sony is trying to deny that by saying they haven’t really announced it even though a Sony executive just did. Because video games.
We reached out to Sony this morning for further comment, in hopes of getting them to say something straightforward. Wish us luck.

I thought this was a bit sketchy when I read it on IGN – although it came from an executive, it’s hardly the way Sony generally go about announcements of this nature, so until it’s officially announced I’m going to hold my excitement.
And if it’s true, with the reported enhanced graphics, I’m going to be first in line when it releases. As good as the game is, and as gorgeous as it already is, I’d love to replay it in 1080p.
At first I thought you were dissing Sercan by calling him a Turkey VP, and then was embarrassed as I read ahead…
I’d buy it a second time for sure. I can only imagine how awesome it will look.
Makes too much sense not to port it. There are alot of 360 users who never played it on ps3.
Really looking forward to this if true. I was on the verge of buying a PS3 solely for this game a few times.
I did. Amazing game and totally worth it.
great game but after having finished it about 5 times, I’m gonna take a few years off before I hit it again.
I only justfinished my second playthrough since buying it launch. Hopefully a sequel comes to ps4 some day. Such a great game and characters
As a PS3 owner who loved the game I kind of don’t see the point in a PS4 version because the PS3 version was already pretty good to look at and smoothing out a few models won’t make the game brand new.
But it would be pretty neat for people who went from a 360 to a PS4 who never got to play the original so I guess that’s their intended audience.
If they went to the same effort that Square Enix did with the Tomb Raider DE, it’ll be worth it. Much more than just smoothing out some models – the trees wave and move, there’s more immersiveness. It was almost a new experience.
And yes, the new PS4, never owned a PS3 crowd are worth selling to. Journey PS4 please!
I hope it’s true, been a 360 user so never got the chance to play this. But I’m thinking of jumping ship to PS4 soon and if true, this will seal the deal!
id really just like them to release the DLC as a stand alone on PS4. i havent played it yet as i only have so much space under my tv and the ps4 replaced the ps3.
i dont want the full game again
I started playing games on 8-bit systems. I am not a kid anymore. Not many fathers my age have played The Last of Us. But you know what? They don’t know what they are missing. I love movies, and this game makes you feel like you are IN one. Highly recommended in whatever edition. Survivor mode a must. Just sayin’.
Looking forward to it, but man I wish they would fix the AI for companions… I lost all immersion in the game when sneaking around guards but my companion was literally bumping into them without getting any kind of reaction, really spoiled it for me.
