Last month, observant fans noticed that some changes had been made to Street Fighter V character R. Mika. Namely, that her arse-smacking celebration — first shown off in August — had since been toned down to keep the slapping out of view.
Here’s the before-and-after:
While some cried CENSORSHIP, and everyone else got on with their lives, there remained uncertainty as to why the edit had been made. Uncertainty that Street Fighter boss Yoshinori Ono has laid to rest in an interview with Brazilian site UOL (and which has been translated by NeoGAF member Moraizen).
“We didn’t make any change because of external influences,” he says. “Those changes came up internally. We decided to remove that because we want the biggest possible number of people to play, and we don’t want to have something in the game that might make someone uncomfortable.”
For the record, R. Mika’s butt did not make me uncomfortable. New Ken makes me uncomfortable.

Was that statement a paradox? :p
I’d like to thank Luke Plunkett for reviving this shitstorm from weeks ago that HAD died down amongst all the other SF news in the past few days.
This caused a shitstorm?
Probably about as much of a shitstorm the censored/replaced costumes in Bravely Default and Project Zero 5 had >_>
We didn’t allow external forces to make the decision, we decided internally to remove anything offensive to those external forces anyway… Sounds like they did a DoA: Beach Vollyball 3 and just didn’t want to be honest about it.
All Capcom need to do when dealing with public backlash is respond with more images of Bearded Ryu.
Sounds like the usual iterative process of design: tweak until the product fits the audience. Just so happens that a particularly insidious subset of the audience wants to wail and gnash teeth because that don’t agree with design decisions.
Clearly one of the downsides to broadening the interface between developers and their audience.
SMH SJW amirite?
Technically both sides are SJW’s, just for different villages.
I can’t lie. I like big butts….
Can’t deny……other brothers?
Her butt is still hanging out bare, despite hiding the slap.
“we don’t want to have something in the game that might make someone uncomfortable.”
bare butt ok….slapping bare butt not ok..
…and the fact they put more detail into her chest then her face.
Wait .. she has a face?
Lol? The butt slap doesn’t even register next to the move itself. What a pointless edit.
Why not both? I can’t be the only one who’d enjoy customisable options beyond costumes: stuff like voices, announcers, UI bars, particle effects, taunt animations and in this case, victory poses.
