EA just announced A Way Out, a new co-op-only adventure game by the team behind 2013 indie darling Brothers. It’s a split-screen prison break game slated for a 2018 release.

Director Josef Fares told E3’s audience that he “wanted to play a game where the characters had unique personalities and goals.” A Way Out is set in a prison, where you can play as Vincent, a new inmate, or Leo, a seasoned one. It can only be played in co-op, either locally or online in a split-screen format.
Take a look at its trailer:
And its gameplay trailer:
Beginning his career as a film director, Fares’s debut in the gaming world was Brothers, an adventure game about two brothers in a fairy tale world. Gizmodo‘s Evan Narcisse effused that Brothers was one of 2013’s best games. He went on to say that the game made him “gasp with wonder and made my chest tight with emotion.”

YES! this is the type of game iv been waiting for.
Definitely keeping that on my radar.
Super keen for this one, it looks right up my alley – definitely one for my partner and I to play together on the couch. I loved Brothers so I can’t wait to see what emotional rollercoaster Fares is taking us on this time.
Almost painful that this is being published by EA. Brothers was so damn good.
I’ve got to say that I’m a bit disappointed that it’s co-op only. Online will be difficult if you can’t communicate with your partner and I’m sure it’ll be difficult to find games a couple months after release.
It’s still too hard to say now since it’s so early and they might include some kind of ping system where you can alert them to what action you want to take before you do it. They also might have things randomized to a degree so that there’s a lot of replayability (yes, I know there’s different ways to solve things but I’m betting they won’t open up whole new pathways).
I have to respectfully disagree. This game being coop only is what makes ot really stand out for me. Me and my best friend are always complaining because coop games are really dying off these days. But as far as communication goes have you ever heard of a mic?
