More info on Destiny‘s Rise of Iron DLC has come out ahead of Bungie’s planned announcement tomorrow, and I’m not gonna lie, it sounds incredible.
Thanks to the Xbox Store, which is responsible for inadvertently leaking just about everything (h/t Reddit), here’s a description of Rise of Iron, which will be out on September 20.
Destiny: Rise of Iron is the next highly anticipated expansion to the Destiny universe. The wall which stood for centuries along the southern border of Old Russia has collapsed. Fallen mutants now scavenge the tombs of the Golden Age, and the plague they have unearthed in the wastes is more dangerous than even they understand. Join Lord Saladin. Journey into the Plaguelands. Learn the fate of the Iron Lords and stop the growing threat before it is too late.
Includes: • New Story Campaign & Quests • New Armour and Gear • New Weapons • New Raid • Maximum Light Increase • New Strike • New Plaguelands Zone & Social Space • New Crucible Mode & Maps • New Enemy Faction and Bosses
I reported last month that the new raid would be themed around the Fallen, with a twist. Apparently the twist is that they’re goddamned mutants. We should see Rise of Iron in action tomorrow during Bungie’s stream.

I was kind of hoping that we’d be getting pets… wolves, or white bengals, either’s good.
Mmmmm juicy concept art. Now it has the time to deliver.
@os42
!!!
!!!
Looks like we’ll finally learn what killed Gheleon; why Silimar, Timur, Skorri and Radagast were so angry; and why Felwinter’s sniper looks like a shotgun. 😛 What caused the Iron Lords to turn on one another, and how Saladin relates to them. And maybe even get some more info about the newly introduced Iron Wolves…Oh, and I guess we’ll take out the Kings in the process… which is a whole other line of questions. Maybe we’ll finally get a clear understanding of the whole tangled lore-mess surrounding Aksor’s break-out… one can dream.Yes…
Maybe I’ll get to shoot things in the face and go BZZZZZZZZTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT with my Warlock?Except the price.. how much are we going to have to pay to re-buy the game for a 3rd time?
You must be new to gaming
Yep, totally new, only started gaming in the early 90’s. I’m just a little salty that Bungie stated “all future content would be free” when they brought in the micro-transactions but now this is paid DLC again.
This is what I’m holding out for. Still havent gone through all the stuff Taken King added, just feels dirty and bitter at what they asked for it.
$30 US, so… $50? If we’re lucky, and they offer a reasonable selection of SKUs this time around.
According to Jb hi fi its looking to cost $89 on top of the taken king expansion, im not lying. Its early though so hopefully it will change.
$44.95 for Rise of Iron (provided you’ve got The Taken King) on the PS store.
So… more of the same. Just make Destiny 2 and ditch the prehistoric consoles of last gen.
Rumour has it this DLC will ditch last gen as well, which should mean overall performance improvements optimised for current gen machines.
That’s what it should mean, but what it actually means is “we can do snow effects and use higher-poly models now”.
Weren’t last gen consoles already ditched when The Taken King dropped?
I’m not gonna lie, sounds like every other DLC…I’ll predict it ain’t going to be worth the price being charged considering how we’ve been screwed on every dlc price thus far…
Might be enough to make me jump back in.
I thought we were done with a priced DLC model for Destiny and everything from now on until Destiny 2 was going to be funded by purchases in game such as the emotes? Or did they find out that that wasn’t actually as profitable as they’d hoped and here we are again? Given that this seems to be in between the sizes of the Year 1 DLC & Kings Fall but will probably be the same price, it’s not for me as I’ll run through the single player stuff fairly quickly, have a couple of multiplayer matches before realising it’s still imbalanced and then uninstall again. Still a no from me Bungie
I think that was the plan when Destiny 2 was scheduled for a 2016 release, but when that got bumped (and they probably just plucked some bits from that to make this DLC), they likely thought one more tap into consumer’s wallets would be OK.
I’ve bought everything Destiny thus far, but I’m still a raid virgin on account of (a) having no friends (that I want to play with), (b) refusing to use voice chat (a house with two young kids does not a good raider make) and (c) needing an uninhibited block of time to dedicate to a raid. Everytime there’s an update it seems increasingly focussed on the hard-core multiplayer stuff. I doubt there’s enough meat on these bones to bring me back.
I just hope that no new achievements are added. I just want to play the game how I wish to play, not in some forced way in order to unlock gear, missions, etc.
Yours for only $99.95!
I wonder what reskins they’ll come up with for the enemies this time? Perhaps an orange glow, blue’s so last year. 😛
