Some scheduling mishaps over the holidays meant you missed out on getting your Aussie Charts fix last week. So, a few days late, here it is.
And things look very similar to how they were the week prior. The Wii continues to dominate, with Wii Sports Resort and New Super Mario Bros. no doubt still benefiting from being bundled with the console at the discretion of various retailers.
Modern Warfare 2 and Assassin’s Creed II have clearly established themselves as the core gamer’s picks for Christmas. And perhaps the unseasonably chilly weather we’ve seen around the country have confused some into thinking the Winter Olympics had begun.
Do these charts tally with what you saw under the Christmas tree?
All Format Full-Priced Games Top 10 for the w/e December 27:
1. Wii Sports Resort (Wii)
2. New Super Mario Bros. (Wii)
3. Wii Fit Plus (Wii)
4. Wii Play (Wii)
5. Mario Kart (Wii)
6. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (PS3)
7. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (360)
8. Assassin’s Creed II (360)
9. Assassin’s Creed II (PS3)
10. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (Wii)

Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at 4:56 PMThat’s incredible, I can understand NSMB, but Mario Kart?
Also David, does this include games bundled with consoles?

Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at 5:00 PMGames that are included as part of an official Nintendo bundle are not counted – ie. a hard bundle. Games that a retailer decides to bundle with a console are counted – ie. a soft bundle. Right now, I don’t believe any of the bundles available are hard bundles.

Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at 5:05 PMIt’s interesting to see the PS3 win on MW2, and 360 on AC2.
I’m wondering if that might be that people with both consoles (like myself) want their multiplayer experience without paying for a gold subscription. Or maybe people who got banned from Live over November buying their multiplayer games for the PS3 now and sticking with their banned console…

Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at 8:28 PMI’m one of those people that has a 360 but refuses to pay for gold subscription (why should I pay for something that i’ve always had for free on PC?), and as such, tend to buy more SP oriented games for my 360 and MP ones for my PC.
Strangely enough, some of my friends that have both consoles tend to buy MP games on their xbox, perhaps just because their other friends have them, or the MP experience is better?

Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at 11:39 PMI only own a 360 though a friend has both. I personally prefer the online functionality of xbox live to the ps3, though I do resent the fees. Getting $50 a year subscriptions from gamecard.com.au does help dull the pain. That’s less than $5 a month.

Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at 5:23 PMI know of 4 people at my work who got a Wii for Christmas (or got it for their Kids). Plus a whole heap of different bundled games.
No one got a PS3 or 360, or even games for that matter. Not even me :(

Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at 5:29 PMAdd Arkham Asylum and that’s would have been my house holds Christmas.

Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 1:58 AMBecause no one does it like Nintendo… sony and MS are massive entities that’s soul purpose is to make massive profits regardless of any other cost… including smudging their already crappy name.
There are companies that aren’t like that and Nintendo are one of them.

Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 8:46 AMI’m not sure about that, the Wii has easily the most amount of shovelware on it.

Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 11:33 AMAbsolutely, milking Mario for 30 years is the archetype of choosing artistic integrity over profiteering!

Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 11:42 AMExcept that Nintendo is now the most profitable company in the world – go figure!!!
Nintendo has more sequels & franchises than any other company – that’s not for the love of the consumer…

Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 11:46 AMI think Nintendo has turned into the ultimate profiteering machine this generation – I dont know what you are smoking.
Lets see
Wii – No original Nintendo IP’s, rehashes of existing franshises with very little progression (beyond motion control) and the biggest (outside of the DS) collection of ‘shovelware’ games
Micro – Interesing first and third party exclusives (Gears of War, Left 4 Dead, Mass Effect and Fable) and development of Halo beyond FPS, Live arcade version with excellent games and great online
Sony – Excellent first party exclusives inc some original IP (Uncharted) and HD sequels to PS2 games. Sony are constantly pushing out new games for the PS3 and are actively developing new IP
So yes, clearly Microsoft and Sony’s “soul” (I think you mean ‘sole’) purpose of profits include the constant development of original and fresh IP, and you think thats a bad thing while Nintendo can get away with New SMB Wii which is a “greatest hits” collection of SMB levels with “4-players”??
