There’s not much to say about Nyko’s wide-angle lens attachment for the Kinect – which widens and shortens the Kinect sensor’s point of view, allowing you (and a friend) to play way closer to the sensor – except that it works.
I played the Kinect Adventures dodgeball game just a few feet away from Kinect, and it worked perfectly: Just like the Kinect should work, but I was standing crazy close. The lens is designed in a way that it won’t distort photos taken with the standard RGB camera, according to Nyko. If your gaming happens in a tiny, sad space this $US30 piece of plastic might be exactly what you need to get your Kinect on. [Nyko]

Thursday, June 9, 2011 at 8:47 AMI have a pretty large loungeroom, but I am still hard up against the couch for optimal space. This sounds perfect.

Thursday, June 9, 2011 at 8:49 AMFor $30 I’ll take a punt on this as well. I guess the photos taken during Dance central etc. will end up with heads cut off and so forth as we are closer to the screen, but I’m happy with that as a trade-off:
From the Nyko Blurb:
Decrease the space needed to play your favorite Kinect games with Nyko’s Zoom for Kinect. The Zoom reduces the play range required to enjoy Kinect software by up to 40%, allowing you to play closer to your TV. Zoom’s wide angle lens also enables two people to play in an area normally only suitable for a single player making it ideal for those in smaller apartments or dorm rooms. Specially designed optical lenses fit over the Kinect sensor and clip into place making set up a breeze with nothing to plug in. No additional software or calibration is required. The design of the Zoom blends seamlessly with the look and feel of the Kinect. The Zoom opens up a whole new world of Kinect play to those who previously lacked the space required to fully enjoy it.

Thursday, June 9, 2011 at 9:12 AMIf anyone finds a reasonable retailer to ship these, a heads-up would be appreciated. My apartment so isn’t made for kinect’ing.

Thursday, June 9, 2011 at 10:55 AMSounds like a product Microsoft should have made themselves. Though I guess then they would be responsible if it didn’t work 100%
