Some detective work from the Official PlayStation Magazine and some GTA fan sites has turned up the name Ned Luke, an actor who not only looks like the middle-aged white guy from the GTAV trailer, but sounds like the clip’s narrator, too.
What’s more, there are people on Twitter like actor Jimmy Taenaka and a woman saying she’s his cousin talking about his supposed role, while Luke’s Twitter account has recently been deleted, but not before it was noticed he was following the game’s developer, Rockstar Games.
Now, having the one man provide a face and a voice is rare. Indeed, Team Bondi’s LA Noire (another Rockstar-published game) is one of the only major titles to do so, and I wouldn’t have thought that technology would be used here. But hey, maybe it has!
Another thing to remember: while the Twitter comments paint Luke as the “star” or “lead” of the game, we’ve heard GTAV may feature multiple playable characters, making him only one of an ensemble of characters.
We’ve contacted Rockstar for comment, and will update if we hear back.

Monday, November 14, 2011 at 4:39 PMI’m pretty convinced to be honest – only thing is, the guy in the trailer kinda has a slightly harder, broader face, whereas Luke’s is a little softer, its features a little more broad. The guy in the game is kinda halfway between Luke and a modern variation of Vercetti, but I guess only time will tell.

Monday, November 14, 2011 at 4:46 PMThe characters with ‘celebrity’ voices in the Mass Effect games usually have a distant likeness to their voice actor.
Miranda looks similar to Yvonne Strahovski, and The Illusive Man looks kind of like Martin Sheen.

Monday, November 14, 2011 at 4:51 PMNot really sure where I was going with this, just my two cents on other games using likeness and voice together I guess.

Monday, November 14, 2011 at 5:03 PMYeah, Miranda in Mass Effect 2 looks nowhere near as good as her voice actor.

Monday, November 14, 2011 at 5:08 PMIt’s still a decent, valid point. Those two look quite similar, and it just makes me even more interested in the game.

Monday, November 14, 2011 at 6:06 PMSimilar with Michael Hogan as well – as soon as his character turned up in ME2 I automatically thought “TIGH!??” Even though they aren’t incredibly similar looking, there’s definitely an elemen of Hogan physically, as well as vocally.

Monday, November 14, 2011 at 10:11 PMYvonne Stahovskis face was scanned for use in ME2… That’s probably why her and Miranda look similar :p

Monday, November 14, 2011 at 5:28 PMRockstar has used Mocap for a long time- wouldn’t surprise me if they are using a combo of Mocap and LA Noire tech in GTA V

Monday, November 14, 2011 at 6:02 PMThey could be using MotionScan, but I think they’re keeping their cards close to their chest with respect to tech at the moment.
None of the faces in the trailer seem to be animated (with the exception of the hobo blinking) and the only ones you see close up are this guy (with a very oblique shot of the side of his face) and the guys getting out of the van (who have their faces covered with the gas masks).

Monday, November 14, 2011 at 9:50 PMGlenn Morshower has both his voice AND likeness in Battlefield 3 (he’s one of the guys questioning the soldier in those cutscenes – you’ll recognise him as soon as you see him) so increasingly this is becoming more common.
