Tokitowa Is Like Playing An Anime

Tokitowa is a new JRPG filled with time travel, multiple personality disorder, talking dragons, ghost towns, assassins, comedy, and cake — lots and lots of cake. Its creators have called it an “Anime RPG” as it uses 2D sprites for all the characters and enemies which are then superimposed on a 3D world.

In battle, Tokitowa plays like no other JRPG before it. You take the role of Toki or her other personality Towa and attack using a knife or gun in a series of one-on-one battles. Unlike many RPGs, however, Tokitowa is not turn based and you can attack as often as you want with normal attacks or magic (if you have the SP which is gained over time or by attacking). However, the enemy can do the same. So to win, you must learn the enemies’ patterns, dodge and block when they attack, and go all out whenever they leave an opening.

Tokitowa was released in Japan on October 11, 2012, for the PlayStation 3. It has been announced for international release but no date has been set.
