Ellen Ripley and crew will join the upcoming sci-fi horror game Alien: Isolation when it comes out late 2014… if you pre-order. Yep, we’ve reached a whole new low for pre-order DLC — not content just to offer costumes and maps as bonuses for pre-ordering Alien: Isolation, Sega is now offering two bonus missions that will feature Sigourney Weaver, Tom Skerritt, Yaphet Kotto and other members of the original cast from the Alien movie.
Here’s Sega:
Anyone who pre-orders the game will get a free upgrade to the Nostromo Edition, which includes the bonus content “Crew Expendable”. Players can choose to play as one of three surviving crewmembers, only moments after Brett’s death at the jaws of the creature. As Ellen Ripley, Dallas or Parker, players can explore the Nostromo from habitation deck down through engineering, coordinating their efforts with Lambert and Ash to lure the Alien into the ship’s airlock.
In addition, consumers who pre-order at GameStop will exclusively also receive “Last Survivor” in which players pick up the story as Ripley tries to escape on the Narcissus. On hearing the screams of Lambert and Parker, players must navigate their way back down through the Nostromo in order to activate the self-destruct sequence, before retracing their steps back to the Narcissus shuttle and their escape.
Alien: Isolation is out on October 7 for PS4, PS3, Xbox One, 360 and PC.

Anyone else need to take a shower after this news?

Emergency jimquisition needed I feel. I have to be honest, I think they got me this time. I never Preorder but I just wouldn’t feel happy with the end product knowing I missed out on content like that.
You are why we can’t have nice things.
…Unless we preorder. 🙂
…Exclusively at GameStop.
(OK, I pulled GameStop out of a hat based on that they’ve had exclusives before, but later today I read this: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/135992-GameStop-Wants-to-Snag-Exclusive-Gameplay-as-Preorder-Bonuses sooooo… there’s that.)
All I want is for them to get someone who knows what they are doing to fix the eyes.
It sounds to me that this is a separate ‘Nostromo’ edition that would be available after launch anyway.
I guess ‘Nostromo edition’ is just like a day one edition sort of thing with some extra DLC on it. Can probably pick it up after release.

“Ellen Ripley and crew will join Alien: Isolation … if you pre-order”
Fuck You Sega.
Fuck. You.
I’m not a HUGE fan, of the opinion that it probably should’ve been an option for the base game, but it seems a lot like this kind of game’s version of map packs, which we’re all kinda desensitized by.
To be honest, it sounds a lot like they’re even noting up-front that this is something that WILL be available for purchase at a later date, unlike the other cock-teases which give you the (sometimes correct) impression that now is your only chance ever, buy now now now NOW!
All this is, is like… a discount. So when the DLC comes out, we’ll have a fair idea of how much discount they think a preorder is worth.
No Harry Dean Stanton, no dice.
looks like he is, so…dice? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3391132/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_2
dice
Ummm…left hand side of the top image?
It’s weird because he’s in the photo but they set this after he’s dead.
Will wait for GOTY version.
*sigh*…..
Still going to buy it!
You see? They offer something that they know customers will bend over backwards for, and then lock it up as a preorder bonus. The only way to stop this sh*t from happening is to tell them to go f*ck themselves and not preorder. I know that people are going to anyway, but for f*cks sake people.
And let’s not forget, shall we, how people who preordered the last Alien game felt after it was released. You really want to get suckered into that again, just because this time it has Ripley in it?
This is why I think having a pile of shame isn’t such a bad thing.
I’ll have enough to keep me going until the Game of the Year edition is released further down the track.
I got the pre-order edition of Colonial Marines for like $28 brand new, MONTHS after the game had been released. I still haven’t played it but the cool little statue sits in my room 🙂 Oh and yes I agree this shit needs to stop.
That statue was the best thing. 2nd best thing was the cloth patch.
Really not sure about this. it sounds like a cool idea but I thought the game was set like 30 years later and you were playing as Ripley’s daughter or something? How does this work? Kind of reminds me of the hacky way they tried to work characters from the films into Colonial Marines, seems like it might be a bit of a forced PR move to try and secure more orders for the game regardless of the integrity of the product as a whole.
It works as a DLC short campaign.
FU Sega! After the A:CM debacle, couldn’t you stop farking us around for one game.
PS I only recently found out that Lambert was born as a male.
