4A Games, the studio behind the Metro series of shooters, has been somewhat quiet of late. Last we heard it was working on two titles — a new Metro instalment and another, more radical game: an FPS set in space with a “very unusual design”. However, it appears the latter project has been put on hold, going by one developer’s LinkedIn profile.
OnlySP’s Nick Calandra spotted the LinkedIn update yesterday. Andriy Verpahovskiy, 4A’s lead technical game designer, recently made the following tweak to his job history:
Not fantastic news if it pans out as truth, though it’s not like we knew much to begin with. The only information about the unannounced came via a mid-2014 interview with Oleg Danilov at ITC.ua.
Here’s the translation from Russian:
The third project is even more secret. It’s a fantastic shooter game about space with a very unusual design, structure and idea. Alien landscapes are fascinating — this we definitely have never seen. Alas, more information about the new game, we can not give.
I think I can say on everyone’s behalf that a sci-fi shooter in the vein of Metro would have been welcomed with open arms. The good news is that “suspended” doesn’t necessarily equate to “cancelled”, so maybe the studio will pick it back up again when the time is right.
