Welcome to Community Kudos! A quick heads up: this will be my last Community Kudos post for a while as I’m heading back to the motherland (Scotland) for a quick three week holiday this Thursday. Wish me luck on a 27 hour flight with a six month old!
Onto the noms!
This week was a combination of totally random noms and some very well focused noms on one specific subject.
Here’s an example of some random noms.
ShiggyNinty
I nominate AlexAndHisPants for being the King on his Throne of Scarlet Sex.
What even is, Shiggy? What even is?
Throne of Scarlet Sex? Please explain. Actually, I’ve changed my mind. I really don’t want to know!
Weresmurf also picked up a nom for making a pretty awesome comment in The Gamer Who Raised Me article we ran earlier this week.
Lee McDonald
weresmurf for the first comment in Phils “The gamer who raised me”.
Verily it was a good comment.
Hey #35 — is that still your username here on Kotaku? I’m rubbish at remembering these things.
Anyway, #35 dropped a nom for BDKIAF!
#35
I would like to nominate……
BDKIAF. For PAX ticket related helpfullness.
And speaaaaaking of PAX (I AM THE KING OF SEGUE) we had a pretty almighty competition that resulted in some mighty entries which, in turn, resulted in some awesome people coming closer into the Kotaku fold. Great result all round really.
Allow me to explain — we had some amazing entries, and an amazing winner. The great spirit in which it was all received and the humility of all the participants involved really brought a smile to me face.
Greenius dropped his weekly GKN and explained the whole situation quite nicely.
Greenius
That PAX competition was killer! So many awesome entries and kudos to everyone! Winners, losers, judges – EVERYONE!
But more specifically I nom puck for this really good comment that sums up a lot of thoughts about the competition.

Mike Tarno gets a nom too for saying he’d play Xenoblade! (that’s how you get into my good books). He’s also totally Dave Grohl.
And early noms for SmurfyDog, NegativeZero and Inquisitorsz who offered me lifts to the upcoming Shane meat.
Speaking of Shane, although he’s a bit of a monster (MONSTER!), he gets one too because he’s a pretty cool guy.
– G dog (that’s what the villagers in Animal Crossing call me)
The Animal Crossing homies roll deep mang.
But yeah, that comment by Puck, who was pretty damn close to winning the competition to begin with, was another humdinger. WHAT A GUY!
And Trjn the King of Board Games took time out from blasting through his pile of shame to concur.
Trjn
Just a quick nom for Puck and Mike Tarno for their entries in the PAX competition and their recent comments. They seem like pretty rad duders.
They do seem like rad duders. D.C. agrees.
D.C.
I’d like to nominate @miketarno! He’s a cool new addition to TAY and a good natured guy! Welcome aboard, friend!
Also @greenius.
Today’s final nom comes from Mawt. It has an opening paragraph that made me chuckle.
Mawt
In case you weren’t aware, there was a competition this week to send somebody to PAX Aus. It really was quite something, I hope you get a chance to check it out.
I’m Oprah nomming everyone involved.
It was great to see so much support between the entrants, such gracious runners up and everyone generally being excellent to one another Wednesday afternoon gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling to see that sort of community in action. Don’t worry too much though, I went home and played online videogames; that put an end to the strange feeling quick smart.
Take care,
Mawt
P.S. Have you looked into how much porridge customs will let you take out/bring in to the country? I’m not sure how Scottish porridge compares to Australian.
Mawt, I have not looked into it, but I will surely be investigating. I am also planning to bring back ‘Weet-a-bix’, which is far superior to Australia piss-weak ‘Weetbix’. And maybe some Irn Bru.
Anyways… that’s it for the noms this week! Have a great weekend and congrats to Puck and miketarno who are the winners of this week’s Community Kudos!
Community Kudos is your chance to reward Kotaku readers/posters who have done incredible things throughout the past week: sporadic acts of kindness, deft commenting skills — if someone deserves to be called out for being an incredible human being, Community Kudos is the place to do it. Disclaimer — I’m am really bad at sending stuff out, I have a list, I haven’t forgotten, I’m totally getting round to it. Sorry everyone!

Aw yeah! Grats fellas!
Good luck Markius!
Kudos at 7.30 on a Monday morning, what is this madness?
Grats to the winners.
pfff 28 hours with a 6 month old. I did 31 hours with a 3 month old AND an 18 month old. Maybe next year Serrels. Maybe next year…
I’m sure there is a context that I’m missing, but all I’ve got is your username to go with that comment.
D:
…. (sorry to post this here, but whats with all the in-your-face spam of the ‘take a kotaku reader survey to win an acer blah blah appearing in big up the top of every page that is loaded, and off to the side after you have closed it in at least two locations, i’ve closed that about 6 times now but it appears on EVERY page as a ‘special’ ad. Never seen this here before, and no i am still not interested. You could at least choose a better brand than Acer. Damn they are awful.)
No worries, fair complaint. Will speak to folks about this.
Why thank you my good man. (Ad block plus does a good job, just right click and block image). Hey tell me, is part of your trip back to Scotland to attend a gala for Andy Murray winning wimbledon, being a fellow Scot? 🙂
I think you’re exactly right. I reckon he saw this victory coming after the Olympics, and booked his tickets way back then. As part of the official* Andy Murray Twitter fanclub he has to be there for the victory parade!
*seriously. He must be getting paid for some of the devotion he’s shown over the years!
The half screen mobile ad that can’t be closed (assuming its a website bottom left corner) is also insanely annoying.
Yeah, the mobile one is much, much worse than the one on the regular version of the site.
I have to admit, I’m going to have a guess here that the survey is irrelevant to a large proportion of Kotaku readers. Until the 89% mark anyway. 😛
Good luck on the flight; six months is a pretty good age to fly with. We flew back from the UK at Christmas with a 16 month old and it was a complete fucking nightmare. She wasn’t old enough to be entertained by movies, but was too old to fit comfortably in one of the cots they provide (at a cost) for you that bolt to the wall.
Six months seems pretty good as hopefully (s)he will sleep for a lot of it, and they don’t require a whole lot of need to move around a lot. One piece of advice though, bring lots of different toys/snacks/distractions and then stagger them periodically to reduce the frequency of boredom. Good luck!
Congrats @miketarno and @puck! Well deserved!
Good luck with the flight too, Serrels! 🙂
Hooray! I can has an award. *jump into the air, taps his heels together and then does a small victory dance*
Thanks all for the nominations and for being such cool and welcoming peeps. 😀
Good luck with your flight @markserrels!
Hmmm…I wonder if I’d remembered to send my email would my anti-Kudos have cancelled out your win? 😛
P.S. Congratulations to you and @puck. Well-deserved. 😀Oh what? You didn’t sent that through. Now it doesn’t feel like a legitimate win against all odds. 🙁
@Strange noms change lives so by theory Strange anti-noms change nothing! You’re still a winner!
Hooray. I still think we should have a community nemesis award though. 😛
Hey thanks guys! Lovely way to start the week. *slightly readjusts sitting position, smiles happily, does a small victory lean-back-in-chair, almost falls over, sits more sensibly*
This is a really wonderful and friendly community, especially you, the person specifically reading this now – you’re awesome!
(I’ve started playing Animal Crossing, and how *nice* everybody is never gets old. Nintendo always makes me feel warm and happy, something I needed after finishing The Last of Us).
I am awesome.
@markserrels: Are we getting a guest editor again?
I vote we get Patricia. I haven’t felt like a misogynistic bastard for a while.
Is it @dc ?
