Here’s What A Steam Sale Can Do For Your Game

Last weekend you could pick up Dawn of War II for cheap thanks to a 50% off deal on Steam. Looks like it did wonders for the game’s sales.

You see, every week Microsoft publish a list of the ten most played games over Xbox Live. What you probably didn’t realise is that this list also tracks games played over Games For Windows Live, too.

I say you probably didn’t realise because to date there haven’t been any GFW Live games in the list. Until last week, that is, when Dawn of War II popped up in 10th spot.

No doubt it also helped that DOWII received a major update to coincide with the Steam deal.

ANZ Top Played Retail Games w/e August 5:

1. Halo 3
2. Call of Duty 4
3. Call of Duty: World at War
4. Gears of War 2
5. Grand Theft Auto IV
6. Guitar Hero World Tour
7. FIFA 09
8. Fallout 3
9. Halo Wars
10. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II

Sure, there are probably a few PC gamers adding to that Fallout 3 stat, but Dawn of War II is the first non-Xbox 360 game to make the list. Well done, Relic!
