This Week In Games

In amongst my notes for 'This Week in Games', I have one title underlined, doused in highlighter, circled, with a million exclamation marks surrounding it. That title, ladies and gentlemen, is Rock Band 3.

But that's far from the only big daddy: there's Fable 3, The Force Unleashed II, Super Scribblenauts. It's a big week, and we suspect it's going to snowball as we approach Christmas. Hang in there chaps, your wallets are in for a bumpy ride.

Check out the list below.

Bakugan Brawl (DS) What is it? A video game based on a kids show that you may or may not have even heard of. Should you care? You shouldn't, but you might...

Ben Ten: Alien Destruction (360/DS) What is it? Game based on the mega popular children's show. Should You Care? Sometimes I wish I was nine years old again so I could watch Ben 10 with gay abandon. Sadly, I'm pushing 30.

Blood Bowl (PC) What is it? A vaguely Speedball-ish video game reworking of a board game. Should you care? Maybe. If you're into the board game.

Brunswick Pro Bowling (PS3) What is it? A really average bowling game. Should you care? Watch Kingpin instead, because Bill Murray's in it. Just ignore this.

Buzz!: The Ultimate Music Quiz (PS3) What is it? The latest update to the popular PlayStation quiz game. Should you care? We have a soft spot for Buzz! but this is hardly essential.

Deathspank (PC) What is it? Ron Gilbert's Diablo parody, finally hopping onto Steam. Should you care? We liked it!

Fable 3 (360) What is it? Giant RPG collection of Molyneux hyperbole and bombast made video game flesh. Should you care? Definitely. This will be a humdinger.

Move TV Superstars (PS3) What is it? Mini-game collection for the PlayStation Move. Should you care? For game starved Move owners only.

Lord of the Rings: Aragorn's Quest (PS3/Wii) What is it? An accessible slasher customised for motion controllers. Should you care? Middle Earth dwellers may find value in this.

Rock Band 3 (360/PS3/Wii) What is it? Mana from the heavens. Should you care? God gave rock and roll to you - will you heed the call?

Saw 2 (PS3/360) What is it? Game with copious amounts of frustating puzzle-age and gore. Should you care? Probably not.

Shaun White Skateboarding (360/PS3/Wii) What is it? A fresh take on the extreme sports genre. Should you care? Wait for the reviews...

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (360/PS3/Wii/PC/DS) What is it? Sequel to above average slasher stuffed full of ret-con. Should you care? Much improved. Fans will lap it up.

Super Scribblenauts (DS) What is it? The dazzlingly original, yet tragically flawed DS title gets an upgrade. Should you care? Absolutely.

The Sims 3 (360/PS3/DS) What is it? Console versions of PC monster franchise: ACTIVATE! Should you care? Meh.

WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2011 (PS3/360/Wii/PSP) What is it? Another wrestling sequel. Should you care? We're far more excited about WWE All Stars.

Eh. Probably wait until Force Unleashed II gets the 'Sith Edition' treatment, so to speak.

And you know, I was under the impression that The Force Unleashed *II* was coming out, not the first one :P

As a gamer with a crapload of disposable income even I am struggling to keep up at the moment. Market saturation must be hurting the industry at the moment. I feel the games industry needs to move away from the model that movies follow games just have a much bigger time commitment.

I completely agree with you. A lot of great games just haven't sold well because there's always another one just around the corner.
I used to only have one or two games at a time sitting around forlornly waiting to be played, but now the pile is threatening to topple over.

Also, I forgot to ask, is Undead Nightmare released this week? How much will it cost?

Supposedly it will be on the US store this week (PS3), don't think it's been confirmed for EU, but Rockstar are talking like it's going to happen everywhere.

I'd imagine that the pack will be like the others and be $15.95...

What convinced the Saw writers that we wanted 76 movies/sequels/prequels which are filled with disgusting visuals and excessive gore... and moreso, how did a game come to fruition?

    I find that absolutely disappointing...

Woooooot! Deathspank on steam!! That is sweet as, I've been dying to give this one a go!

@TheCryingGamer, hey Serrelicious mate, can I ask for a real biggie please? Is it possible that Talk amongst Yourselves be posted up early on a Monday morning? Say like, 8:30-9:00 ish? I ask because mondays suck, and there's nothing that cheers me up quite like reading about all my e-buddies lives :D

totally agreed with the "Talk Amongst Yourselves"

Sorry chaps! Usually Elly posts this up, but I forgot she doesn't work Monday mornings.

Just a rookie error! It's up now.

If I'm even close to finishing Mass Effect 2 by the end of the week, I'll grab Fable 3.

Will wait for Rock Band 3. Sounds too much like hard work for the pro modes instead of fun and the setlist does almost nothing for me.

Fallout:NV is all I need for now. Got tons of work to finish keeps staring at me. I'll just do one more quest or two...three.

Yup. Force Unleashed 2, Fable 3 and Super Scribblenauts for me :P

I am looking forward to picking up Force Unleashed 2 - might import it as i don't need it NOW but after playing the first one last week, it wasn't as bad as i remembered it and i actually got quite involved with the story, so i want to see where it goes (very disappointed to hear that the new Lucas Arts president cancelled the development of the third one).

Going to wait on the reviews for Fable 3. Peter Molyneux took me for a ride for Fable 2, and i can't trust a word that comes out of his mouth so i will wait and see what the reviews are before picking it up.

Also - glad i held off buying Fallout: NV witth all the bugs that it apparently has. Most likely just going to hang out for the GOTY PC version next year.

I read somewhere that the Force Unleashed 3 development might not have actually been cancelled... One of the lead devs certainly seemed to think that they would finish the story arc through a trilogy.

Getting Fable III, I know the previous games were sort of a letdown but they were still enjoyable though.

I'll be getting the Limited Edition version of it and I'll probably get Super Scribblenauts down the road.

Rock Band 3 is the only thing of interest to me, but I'll wait til the first price drop... unless I start hearing that stock is limited and will become hard to find...

(happily twiddling thumbs, waiting for Rock Band 3 and the imported keytar controller to arrive on the same day...)

Huge Week! Thankfully I took advantage of JB Hi-Fi's trade 3 get it free deals a few weeks back. Got Fable 3 and Force unleashed 2 pre-ordered and paid for. Also got a pre-order down for Rock Band 3, hopefully my instruments will arrive from the US in time...

Rock band has been the one and only game I've been truly looking forward to this year. I've done a quick dlc buy up, and my total library is now at a bit over 250 songs, so add in rb3 and i'm looking at over 300. I'm proud of my library.

I have a question for you all, though, is it just as easy to get dlc and exports from abroad for the xbox? I've got my rock band on ps3, and it's so amazingly easy to do it all that i'm shocked that heaps of other people haven't bothered. So much cheaper from the uk! That said, it'd be even cheaper again had I decided to go NTSC dlc from the get go, especially what with parity of the dollar and all.

I digress. FU2 looks pretty cool, too, though.

Between New Vegas and Fable 3 my gaming needs are taken care of for the rest of the year.

Will be picking up Fable 3, Force Unleashed 2, Rock Band 3 and Super Scribblenauts myself. I've hardly touched Fallout: New Vegas since it came out last week though. Stupid work...

    Fable 3 and SW:TFU2.

Preordered both... but when I went to pay for Fable JB said they could take a deposit, but I couldn't pay for it until release.

A million exclamation marks? I didn't think anyone cared about Rock Band that much anymore.

Don't get me wrong, I'm psyched for RB3 (Whitesnake! Free Bird!), but a million?

Dude. The Power of Love with a Keytar? That's the path to self-actualisation right there!

        Nah man, I'm good.
        I've got a new drug.

One that won't make me sick
One that won't make me crash my car, or make me feel three feet thick.

        *eye twitch*

Hmmmm, probably most interested in Rock Band 3 ATM.

Deathspank seems ok, but a lot of people tell me that the humor kind of holds the game together, with the gameplay itself falling fairly flat.

I bought the first scribblenauts and was... quite dissapointed. I think i'll wait till this one hits the bargin bin instead of rushing into it

Even though everyone has probably had it at some point in the past.

Grand Theft Auto : The Complete Edition also hits shelves this week, that is the regular game plus both episodes in the one box...

I gave away my early copy of Fable III last week so I'd have more time with F:NV. Rookie error.

[I haven't cracked either of them due to Super Meat Boy addiction levels. Hint: they are high.]

I have played more F:NV than should have been possible with the time I've had to do it in. It's amazing how much gaming you can fit in if you assume sleep is just a waste of time.

ive never bought a music rythmn game before diddnt really see the pointas a real muso, now ive watched heaps on the Squier strat real midi guitar.. and im impressed i think ill def fork out the money should be fun to kick around with depending on how accurate the guitar is

Got New Vegas last week, it is currently destroying my life.

Will be getting Fable 3 this week, and the Back to the Future Blu-Rays. Then a couple of weeks respite, then Black Ops hits. Then Assassin's Creed Brotherhood.

My social life packed its bags and left me the moment New Vegas finished installing.

Wait, Blood Bowl on PC? The Warhammer/Gridiron game? That's been out forever.
