This Skyrim Timelapse Photography Is Breathtakingly Beautiful

Spending time in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, you know the game is beautiful. But did you know it was this beautifuL?

There are a lot of timelapse Skyrim videos, and this must be one of the best I've seen.

This was done by Tom Harris, a professional photographer in Chicago, on a PC with Ultra High game settings. Feel free to watch the video in 1080p.

Wait, there's a new Elder Scrolls game? Why haven't there been any Kotaku posts about it?

They really went all out with the biodome in game, but on the whole, the game's still stuck in the Uncanny Valley.

As a person who was horribly disappointed with Oblivion and only dabbled in Morrowind thanks to Bethesda's and their complete lack of understanding "polish" I am thoroughly enjoying Skyrim having sunk 30+ hours just into the sidequests but cmon, can we stop with the whole "the game looks beautiful" thing? It doesn't. It's actually rather ugly when you don't just glance over everything through half-opened/fanboi eyes.

Textures are really low res, animations are clunky and awkward, weather effects such as snow pass through building walls, more invisible walls than every game in the last decade combined, shadows that show more rough edges than MS Paint. Everything graphically about the game is sadly underwhelming as is Bethesda's style.

The game is fun, the game has astonishing variety (outside of the "random" dunegons and AI interaction) and the game has awesome lore. But anything aesthetic? It's ugly, very very ugly. Bout time the fanboi's acknowledged this.

      Waaaaah. Call the Waaahmbulance.

        Chazz IS the Waaahmbulance.

Ahh the witty repertoire of the fanboi.

I agree mostly with Chazz and I love this game....the best I've ever played. It isn't 'very, very ugly' but there are parts of it that are most definitely ugly.

The landscapes are, for the most part, spectacular. The only other game I have played where I was so mesmerised by the scenery was Red Dead Redemption but the Skyrim characters and some of their movements are ugly at best.

This game has swallowed me whole and I know not when it's thrall shall pass me by.

I somewhat agree. I wouldn't really go so far as to say the game is ugly, the graphics might be sub-par, but I still find the game beautiful. The only thing that's really detrimental to my Skyrim experience is all of the graphical bugs, the shadows being the worse, and the AI isn't fantastic. But nonetheless, it's still an amazing game, so much better than Oblivion.

It's a bit rich to call anyone who likes the game's style a "fanboi".

I both agree and disagree with this. The graphics and clipping a kind of fugly, and in a real sense, the locations aren't nearly as incredible as those from the Witcher 2 or other games. However, (on Ultra) the draw distance and the sense of scale still takes my breath away, 58 hours in. Just yesterday I found myself on a bluff overlooking a valley and just stared at it for like 5 minutes. Then I realised I wouldn't stare that long into a real valley from a real bluff, so I continued on my way. I guess for me the experience is more than the sum of its parts.
