Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Events Continue, But Not On The PS3

Many players have by now completed the Mass Effect 3 singleplayer story, but the multiplayer keeps ticking along.

To maintain interest, BioWare has been running promotional weekends in the multiplayer game, setting certain goals for players to meet both individually and en masse, and promising item packs for players who meet those goals. One challenge asked the community to kill one million Brutes in a weekend. Another asked players to promote two level 20 characters each into the single-player game.

This weekend, in honour of yesterday's free "Resurgence" DLC update, BioWare promises a 10 per cent XP bonus to anyone playing the two new maps. But only, it turns out, for players on the Xbox or PC editions of the game.

Writing on the BioWare blog, a community representative claims:

This Operation is currently available to Xbox 360 and PC users only, and will run from Friday, April 13th at 5PM PST to Monday, April 16th 5AM PST. Unfortunately, we are not yet able to offer our Multiplayer Challenge weekends on PlayStation 3. Sony has not yet approved the promotion. We continue to work with them to find a compromise, but until then, Sony will not allow us to run the same Multiplayer Challenges on the PlayStation 3 that we run on Xbox 360 and PC.

Previous multiplayer challenge weekends were announced for the PS3 version of the game as well, but were not actually available on the Sony console. No announcement has been made indicating when a compromise solution might be implemented.

shock... Sony screwing things up for their customers.... Glad I went the PC version.

Glad to see this is being reported in the media. Bioware says it is Sony's fault and Sony just shrugs and looks at us blankly. No-one is offering any explanation as to why PS3 players are shut out. Many theories going around but technically it is possible for PS3 to participate. There is a policy / approval issue in there somewhere and I suspect Sony is the one being difficult.

If it is Sony's doing then its probably due to the large amount of complaints related to purchases from the online store not working properly. However, it really doesn't make any sense as Bioware/EA runs the servers that store and track data, so it doesn't seem likely that they couldn't host a multiplayer event due to some "policy" on Sony's end...

We still don't have the rewards from that promote 2 characters weekend.

Why the hell do they need Sony's approval to run an XP bonus weekend? Other games seem to do it all the time without any issues, so I can't imagine why Sony would choose to make it difficult for this particular game. Unless somebody high up at Sony was really shitted off with the ME3 ending, maybe.

Raistlan, that one's been commented on, they needed to fix the bug that was being exploited and run it through all the relevant red tape for patches (needs to be approved by Origin, Xbox, and PS3 people).

It has not been forgotten, and they ARE going to finish providing those, it's just taking time.

Yep, I know all that. My point is that they're incredibly slow at everything. Fixing an exploit? couple of months. Game breaking bug with Vanguard? Who knows when that's going to be fixed.

Braaains, look at the difference between the weekends that do and do not apply to PS3. Global XP bonus? Yes. XP bonus for specific maps? No. Tracking how many brutes a specific account kills? No.
