We Can Thank Skrillex For Far Cry 3's Best Musical Moment

There's a mission in Far Cry 3 that… well, it's kind of "That Mission." Every time someone new plays the game, I see them on Twitter or wherever, raving about the pot-burning mission.

It's great for a number of reasons -- we've enjoyed lighting drug fields on fire since San Andreas. But the thing that really puts it over the top is that for a moment, the game's tone completely shifts and Skrillex starts playing.

The tune in question is "Make It Bun Dem" by Skrillex and Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley, and it plays on a loop throughout the entire mission. As Jason takes a flamethrower to Hoyt's drug crop (and the fumes make him get stoned if he gets too close), it's basically impossibly not to gleefully grin and jack in another tank of fuel.

I have a feeling this might be the most widely YouTubed mission of the fall, and with good reason. Whatever complaints I may have about the game's story and tonal consistency, I'd actually love to see more stuff like this. You don't have to be Saints Row the Third, but a little goofiness (and a killer soundtrack) can go a long way when used properly. Sometimes you gotta say screw it; we need some Skrillex.

its one those things that with out the music, its just a rather ho hum affair, but the moment it kicks in, it just makes the mission memroable even if you dispise dubstep.

        That's right

I hate dubstep, but I still had to show this video to my friends!

That's OK Vaas hates dubstep to.

I have to disagree whole heartedly. The in-your-face rasta music hits abruptly and at least for me, changed the tone of the mission from "teach this guy a lesson" to "yeah man, DRUGZ are COOL"

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against pot use. It's just that shoe-horning the music in like this doesn't feel true to the tone of the game up to that point. Also it's gratuitously sterotypical to associate THIS type of music with THIS drug. Some imagination please!

FC3 has other problems with consistency of tone of course, but none of them had me scrambling to the audio options menu to turn off the music ASAP

I guess we don't all feel the same. I was actually a bit sad when I had discovered that Skillex had some of my money (indirectly). Different strokes for different folks.

Get rid of the Skrillex and leave the Marley.

wtf, i was standing in the smoke and the dude didnt get high.

its a pretty subtle effect. bit more motion blur in use & objects have a faint glowing outline sorta thing.

personally i hated this song and thought this mission was boring as we've done it in a billion games to date now.

i had the music turned o scince the start of the game

I didn't seem to enjoy this mission as much as everyone else and ended up turning the musicoff for this section.
I'm just waiting for the day that we can put all this stupid dub-step nonsense behind us.

i hate dubstep but that song and that mission was damn epic

Nah, dubstep STILL ruins everything imo.
