The Next Saint's Row Hits This August, And They Have Superpowers This Time

Volition has been teasing some reveal at PAX East, but it's stepping up the teasing on Twitter and Facebook, with a new teaser trailer hitting this morning.

The text from the official Facebook says:

In the next Saints Row game from Deep Silver Volition, you are _____________, and you have ___________, and there are __________. The first fans to guess one of the answers correctly will get a copy of said game when it is released! What do you think the answers are? Sound off in the comments! :D

The release date is August 20 for current-gen consoles and PC. The description for the YouTube video reads:

"Saints Row IV™ - From the Crack House to the White House The ball-busting next chapter in the Saints Row franchise, is starting a party in your pants this August. Developed by Volition, Saints Row IV will launch on current-gen consoles and PC on August 20, 2013, in North America and August 23, 2013, in the rest of the world."

This teaser looks a whole lot like the Enter the Dominatrix expansion that was in the works as an add-on and then shifted into a full-scale sequel. Here's how that in-development chapter was described in a press release:

"Faster than a speeding cyber jetbike, more powerful than a roided-out Luchadore, able to leap flying aircraft carriers in a single bound… That's the power you'll find inside the Dominatrix. Use it for good. Use it for evil. Use it for whatever you want. As always in Saints Row, it's up to you," said Danny Bilson, Executive Vice President, Core Game Production, THQ Inc. "With a franchise with more than 11 million units shipped globally, it's incredibly gratifying to have the flexibility to give Saints Row fans the features they want most." He later added, "Freaking super powers."

Volition was recently acquired by Deep Silver after the bankruptcy of THQ, the publisher where the series originated.

Update: And now we've got the official press release from Deep Silver:

In the next open-world installment of Saints Row, Deep Silver Volition continues the story of the Third Street Saints by elevating their status to the highest level – the leaders of the free world. In Saints Row IV, the head honcho of the Saints has been elected to the Presidency of the United States. But the Saints are just getting started. Now the larger-than-life insanity of the Saints series gets a new twist with a catastrophic alien invasion, and the aliens have transported the Saints to a bizarro-Steelport simulation. Wield gargantuan superpowers and fight to free humanity from alien granddaddy Zinyak's mental grasp. Escape the simulation that's trapped the Saints crew, or die trying.

Saints Row IV lets players delve into an arsenal of alien weaponry and technology that will turn each Saint into an ultimate entity of destruction. Utilize out-of-this-world superpowers to fight all the way to the top. With intensified action and enhanced customization, players can use their newfound superpowers and leap over buildings, outrun the fastest sports cars, or send enemies flying with telekinesis in the greatest, most insane installment of Saints Row yet.

Save the world, Saints Style.

Weirdly, there's a small part of me that misses the days when SR was a GTA clone. Getit..clone...scifi...Attack of..Yep. Anyway, could be fun still?

I am looking forward to this. More open world crazy mayhem!

Have to be honest here, it really looks like this trailer missed the point. I mean, sure Saints Row is hella fun, but a big part of that is the personality, which helped keep it grounded when all the other batshit stuff was going on. The Saints Row 3 trailer was a great example of this angle.

At the very least I hope you don't get these powers until halfway through the game, so you can build up to it.

Either way, I'll keep an eye on this game, even if it is a "wait until reviews to purchase" one.

I think the fella's building saint's row is high 99% of the time.

I can imagine, hey fella's we need more dildo's, nah nah, super powers...no no no, super powers with a dildo...ahhh...we got a game.

Well, we all knew it was escalating to this anyhow so whythafuggnot eh...

    So it's in Steelport again.

I guess it's easier to churn out a sequel when you reuse the city (like Saints Row 2) but hopefully they've made enough changes to make it worthy of a full release.

Good sir, you have superpowers now.

      That is all.

GTA, Cracktown and The Matrix rolled into one. I think I'm going to enjoy this. =)

And dont forget the silliness of the Saints Row Franchise

Honestly just by the story explanation they give I cant help but feel that they should have just left this as DLC, Its got the right level of craziness to be a DLC for SR3 but thats only because it would have the grounding of the the main games reality.
I like SR2 over SR3 purely because its world is grounded more in reality the crazy things that happen feel crazy because everything else in the world feels dull and mundane in comparison, Saints Row 3 seemed to lose touch with that by making everything as over the top as possible and clearly thats going to continue into Saints Row 4.
Honestly it might be time that they either end the series or restart from a different perspective, because the series is just going to get more over the top from now on.

i kinda agree. While Saints Row 2 was still pretty off the wall, its still knew when to be serious at the right moments (Ayisha's Death, The homie taken for gravel ride, the chick bing squahed by a monster truck)

Where Saints Row 3 didnt know when to be serious. Plus if you follow wrestling then you can also see how Hulk hogan turned the game to be all about him (Hulk Hogan is very well known in wrestling circles to inject himself into the picture when ever he can)

I admire the crazyness (you're now the president and you have superpowers - makes sense!) and I'm kind of motivated to pick SR3 up again and play some more

(The last mission I played had me escorting a naked hulk out of a multistory laboratory)

Ultimately I like 3 over 2 because it's more polished and more playable, while it drops a lot of what made #2 a success, I also feel like #2 was such a huge game with so much going on it was impossible to focus on the story for any length of time because you were constantly distracted by other stuff, I maybe got 3 story missions done in No. 2 the whole time I played it.

    Wow that trailer was amazing.
So we're probably gonna get a SR4 around the time GTA4 comes out? We had SR3 released between GTA3 and GTA4... Working hard there Volition! Keep at it!

SO KEEN! Been in love with this series ever since the release of the first, and this looks like more of the same crazy open world action xD!

I like how it says next chapter and not final chapter.
