I guess I underestimated just how many people on this site had the same love I had for Unirally! Everyone guessed Friday’s ScribbleTaku almost instantaneously, but it was Batguy who guessed first, a whole four minutes after it went up on the site!
Good luck with today’s drawing. I think it’s relatively easy, but it might be on of those hiding in plain sight efforts!
ScribbleTaku is Kotaku’s newest lunchtime game. We give ourselves 30 seconds to draw an old game on a sticky note, and it’s your job to guess what it is! Come back every day at noon for a new ScribbleTaku! Feel like sending one in? Shoot us an email here.

Super Mario Land on Gameboy!
A gameboy was my only gaming device. This, Tetris and Double Dragon were my only games for a looooong time. Subsequently this is one of those images that is burnt into my brain.

Also that was guessed while it was still 12:00. Happy birthday Mark! 😀
Do you just sit there at mid day hitting F5??? congrats again
Basically 🙂
Sometimes he cheats and posts it at 12:01 and the article says 12:00. Filthy sexy liar…
Not even a minute. Nice job.
After posting below i found it..

THIS is the main thing I remember about this game. At least fifteen years since I played it last, and the music has never gone away. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gb33Qnbw520
Due to playing this long before the “real” games , this theme song is actually what I think of when I see Mario. Weird. Never gets any love in retro throwbacks from modern games though.
I played the original Mario games pretty much in the order they were released, but if I try to recall any Mario music, this song makes the first appearance. In a sea of catchy game music, this song tops it.
The only way this guess could be any better would be if you found a Delorean and went back in time to answer the question yesterday.

Let’s do it! We can all chip in to make this happen…. right? :p
Goddamn it why didn’t I get here 44 minutes earlier.
You’re me! Except I had Dr.Mario, too~
Double Dragon GB is probably the best version of the game IMO, and I still remember every note to the 2nd stage theme.
That game was so cheap. Very limited lives. Crappy jumping spike-pushing cheap-boss sections in the last couple of levels. You’d cruise through the first hour or so, and either make it through to beat the game, or lose all your lives in 30 seconds and have to start from scratch.
But I loved it, as any kid did back in the day with their limited set of games.
My thought exactly
what a great game!
Godamn, seriously, Batguy? I swear, you’re only getting these superpowers because of your avatar’s awesomeness.
Seriously though, that game was rad. Does anyone else remember that Nintendo comic that was all about the mario gameboy game? http://4thletter.net/2009/07/the-game-boy-comic-now-youre-reading-with-power-portable-power/ for a review and awesome nostalgia-inducing scans.
“Rick! Look out! You gotta hit them from above, like this! You ought to play your game boy more, instead of hanging around with girls.”
So much sage advice. We all have much to learn from these young men.
Ahhh… Very first game I ever owned.
I have to concur. I haven’t been able to get on here all day, but one glance at that drawing, and it all came flooding back! I still find myself humming the tune to this in my head all the time!
