Why People Play StarCraft

A ton of people played StarCraft II when it was first released, then moved on. To keep playing it, over and over, means you're getting more out of it than just seeing Jim Raynor clomp around for a few hours. If you're standing on the outside and ever wondered just what that is, this video will help.

Made by Stephen Pell and Virginia Anzengruber, and starring Evan Ballnik, it's not a long video, but it is a classy one, getting past bright lights and obnoxious soundtracks to get straight to the point: asking what's so special about StarCraft.

Think of all the countless lives wasted by these videogames where people play them all day, every day, for years... It's so much time - gone. And for what - what are these people doing? No-one gives a shit, no-one will say these people ever did anything, ever achieved anything... It's all so... pointless. Build a bridge. Do something. You're pathetic.

It's kind of like posting worthless comments on online articles, am I right?

Easier to say these things than people taking responding to it. Your comment is spot on for the extreme of anything (even work) but will fall on deaf ears. Another way of doing it is showing a line of where they stand in lifespan from 0 to 70 (motor activity greatly decreases) It's their decision to do what they want, with their time, I wouldn't tell you how to live your life.

Wow, this just seems to more or less be the same as anything anybody ever does in their life as a hobby. Congratulations, you aren't special and nor are your hobbies.

If people derive enjoyment from things they do who the fuck are you to tell them otherwise?

Think of all the countless hours wasted by Marty commenting on videogames where people play them all day, every day, for years... It's so much time - gone. And for what - what is he doing? No-one gives a shit, no-one will say Marty ever did anything, ever achieved anything... It's all so... pointless. Build a bridge. Do something. You're pathetic.

His use of time seems pretty benign in contrast to you: looking for and berating people who contravene your world views.
