A recent update to Plant Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare has rendered the game unplayable for some users, with many taking to the official EA forums to make complaints.
It appears as though the most recent update leaps instantly from 1% to 98%, hangs for a second, then goes back to 0% in an infinite loop.
EA has yet to make an official statement on the issue, but Justin Weibe, the Creative Director of the game has stated on Twitter that a fix is in the works and is the current top priority for the team.
“The new patch deployed last night fails to d/l properly,” he wrote. “We are in contact with MS to resolve the issue. This is our top priority.
“I’ve been informed that MS is planning to redeploy the patch to download. Will let you know as soon as it’s posted.”
We’ll update if we hear anything further.

I’ll admit, most of last week – the servers seemed plagued, and when I could get a game – it would usually disconnect before completion – even if I was hosting. That in itself wouldn’t have been too bad, buy got a little frustrating if you’d used a few of your consumable items. Then by Friday, it seemed they’d taken the entire in game (not real money) store down, and no one could use consumable items at all, because they’d all disappeared from your inventory/stickerbook.
To be fair though – they had a big warning “experiencing technical issues” on the start screen during that period.
By Saturday, all seemed well again, and the new game mode (gnome bomb) is great fun! Love this game! I just assumed there were some teething problems once the title update with the new map&mode went live.
But this “update infinite loop” thing is something I never saw – update arrived fine for me last week – so hopefully I won’t be affected. Sucks for those who just got it, or hadn’t updated earlier though. Everyone should be able to feel that PvZ GW love.
Is there a specific platform this is affecting? I didn’t have any problems getting the update on Xbox One.
I bought this game yesterday and its happened to me – anyone trying to download the Garden Variety Pack since the 26th (judging by the EA forums) has it fail at the 98% mark.
It’s the first time in 5 years of 360 ownership that I’ve seen the message “Can’t Download”
It may have something to do with the 18MB patch that precedes it.
I haven’t had any issues yet. I only got it to fill a gap before titanfall and I really didn’t expect to have this much fun with it! Good times
