Starting next year, if you are really, really good at video games, you can use your gaming skills to get into one of South Korea's best universities — just like being a talented football or basketball player can help your admissions odds.
According to PGR21 (via tipster Sang), Chung-Ang University will begin accepting eSports applicants next year, with prospective students able to apply for the university's Department of Sports Science.
Currently, that department fields students who play team sports like soccer, basketball, and baseball. It also looks for students who play individual sports like golf, bowling, badminton, squash, water skiing, snowboarding, and marksmanship. ESports will be considered an individual sport under the university's admissions policy.
While there is no minimum entrance exam score, applicants' academic record and sports abilities factor into their admissions, perhaps even giving them the necessary edge to get in a highly competitive school.
Chung-Ang University is one South Korea's best institutions, and constantly places in the country's top ten rankings.
