Watch Notch Pour A Bucket Of Ice Water Over His Head

You may be vaguely aware of the Ice Bucket Challenge in which folks dump a bucket of ice over their heads in ice to raise awareness and funds to help find a cure for Lou Gehrig's disease. Now Notch, the creator of Minecraft has taken the challenge, promptly inviting Cliff Bleszinski, Bobby Kotick and Phil Spencer to do the same.

In case you weren't aware, the idea is to pour a bucket of water over your own head. Once you've done it you've earned the right to invite others, and so it spreads. It's been going like Wildfire amongst the tech community and it looks as though it's finally about to spread to people involved in games.

Notch is just the beginning I'm certain of it.

There is a Bill Gates one too! He has some crazy rig.

Then there was Justin Bieber, who used a saucepan (not a bucket) that was full of what was apparently just plain old water straight from the tap, no ice.

Vince McMahon did as well and challenged Trump and in his own words "that Pesky green amphibian Kermit the Frog"

I bet it felt stone cold ;)

God, for some reason I thought I read Phil Fish in that list and thought, "Man, I'd pay to see that dingus dump ice water all over his head... "

    Oops.

It's also the height of summer over there in the US so lots of people would be happy to dump cold water on themselves. Woulda been better if they'd done this in winter. Pussies.

And yes, I'm feeling cynical and annoyed today.

You're totally right about the weather; just reading this is making me shiver. But at Christmas...

Also, buck up - you have a very nice succulent :)

There are a lot of reasons to be cynical about this, and past examples of flash-in-the-pan hashtag activism. It's a bit disappointing that anonymous donation isn't enough any more, and it needs to be mixed in with self-promotion for people to get involved.

Just Googled Lou Gehrig’s disease, it sounds truly awful.
Good to see there are people out there doing something about it.

I watched it twice. Once for Lou, once for those idiotic comments that schmuck made about the Wii U.

Don't give a damn. Where the hell is my copy of Minecraft on the X1 ffs?!?!??!?!?!?!!!!!!!

So, wait, the idea is that if you pass up on the challenge, you have to do age $100 to charity? And Notch, the millionaire, chose the water?

The message is you can donate $100, or a bucket of ice on your head, or do both. Most celebrities have been doing both.

I would hope most celebrities are going above and beyond the $100.
Like Charlie Sheen! Sure, he could afford to give more than $10k, but I am not going to complain about $10k.

See. Bill Gates can still make people do what he wants them to do. Lool.
