As you might have noticed (particularly if you live there) Melbourne played host to quite the electrical storm last night, and you know what that means: your social media feed was most likely inundated with a ridiculous amount of lightning pics.
But among the dross, Gizmodo’s Luke Hopewell noticed the above pic and made a comment: “holy shit, this looks exactly like the ending of Half-Life 2.”
And he’s totally right. In a sense all lightning technically looks like the ending to Half-Life 2, but this one in particular looks like it. It’s the mad pool of light in the sky, that’s what does it. It makes it look as though the lightning is emanating from some kind of nefarious source. Pretty cool.

Storm was no doubt organised by Valve in the lead up to PAX.

Then Valve announces that all work towards Half-Life 2:Episode 2.1 (2+1=?) has been lost.
Hmm, turns lightning only strikes twice….
My friend, the internets is yours today for making the best joke about the lightning storm I have seen. And it was my job today to write a short piece on the social media outpouring about it!

What about Adelaide, we got a pretty awesome thunderstorm too last night.
Yes, yes we did. Was mental standing outside for an hour or so looking at it come in then surround us and go over head. Never seen lightning hit the ground so close and look so thick!
Yeah, it was pretty spectacular, normally an Adelaide thunderstorm consists of a few rumbles of thunder.
I just wish we had more storms like that come through.

I believe you will find that the image is not from the ending of HL2, but from HL2: Episode 2.
You don’t actually see the storm created when you blow up the Citadel in HL2, the G-man carries you away as soon as the reactor detonates.

Was pretty epic. Went over my house (or very very my house) at about 130 this morning and the thunder was so loud it shook my windows and sounded like someone let a bomb off right outside my window.
Sometimes I think nature just likes to remind us how insignificant we are. Glorious.
