The First Five Diablo-riffic Minutes Of Victor Vran

As an isometric fantasy action role-playing game, Victor Vran does a lot of the same things Diablo does. It also does several things Diablo doesn't, which is what makes it awesome.

For one, it's got a main character with an impressively gravelly voice. That's not so much a big difference as it is the very first thing that struck me about Haemimont Games's creation, and I've been talking like him ever since.

As for actual differences, there's jumping. And double jumping. You can rotate the entire map around you, which is a feature I love. Then there's the fact that the weapons you equip and outfits you wear determine your skills and affect your play style in significant ways.

Plus it just an incredibly solid and entertaining action role-playing game. My first five minutes quickly turned into my first half hour, which is why this post is late. Damn Victor Vran.

From the game's Steam page:

Victor Vran is an isometric Action-RPG with a massive selection of weapons, items, outfits,demon powers and destiny cards. Experience intense combat action with dozens of enemies attacking you from all sides and unleash powerful skills to finish them off!   Victor Vran lets you decide how to play the game. Forge your own personal version of Victor thanks to a vast array of powerful weapons, game-changing outfits, wicked demon powers and destiny cards. Use special moves, combine skills and weapons to wipe out hordes of hideous beasts and clever boss monsters.   Slaying demons doesn't have to be a lonely affair — team up with friends online and explore the story of the dark world together in a full co-op experience.

I forgot to mention the Destiny Cards levelling system. Or the demon powers. You should probably just play the thing yourself. Remember to speak all gravelly.

    LOL Victor Vran is Geralt

      I actually had to check if they were the same person! (They're not :( )

        They absolutely are the same person (Doug Cockle).
        Geralt = Victor Vran

        It is the same person, Doug Cockle

      Victor Vran is a Van Helsing clone, can't say I ever really got a Witcher vibe.

        The voice actor is the same dude that does Geralt's voice, Doug Cockle.

          Fair enough. I only watched a few reviews, haven't played it myself.

        I played all 3 VH games and Victor Vran is a better Van Helsing by a long shot.

    Game is actually pretty damn good and well worth trying out. Admittedly I first played it via the high seas but after 30 minutes purchased it happily. And if you do get it go straight for hard mode. Good fun.

    This looks fun! I also like how Mike Fahey presents this article. Very entertaining.
