This Week In Games: Journey On PS4. Hurray!

Man, this is a little depressing. Another week and wasteland. I like this at first, but there’s only so much Splatoon I can play! At least we have Journey on PS4. Probably a perfect time to replay this classic.

You guys and girls picking anything up?

Blues and Bullets (PC)

What is it? A noir effort where you play as Eliot Ness investigating stuff. Sounds a bit hokey. Should you care? But it looks alright. Might be worth a look.

Build ‘n Bump (PC)

What is it? A platform brawler thing where you actually build your own levels before playing/fighting. Should you care? Super simplistic, but looks like a fun party game.

Feist (PC)

What is it? A 2D platformer that looks like Limbo with combat elements. Should you care? It looks really gorgeous, but might struggle with the Limbo comparisons.

Journey (PS4)

What is it? It’s only one of the best games on the PS3 ever. Now on PS4. Should you care? I think so. I’ve been looking for an excuse to replay this.

Olympia Rising (PC)

What is it? A 2D platformer set in ancient greece with all that greek mythology. Should you care? Looks pretty. Looks cool. Worth checking out.

Russian Front (PC)

What is it? A strategy game set across the theatre of the eastern front. Should you care? It’s very bare bones, but strategy heads seem to like it.

What is it? It’s a puzzle platformer with a unique ‘mirror’ mechanic that allows players to create a mirror of the game map. Should you care? It looks really goddamn cool. Gonna try and play this I think.

Transcendence (PC)

What is it? An open world space exploration game with simple 2D visuals. Looks cool. Should you care? Well, I know very little about it, but I’m intrigued. I like the idea. I like the art style.

Way of the Samurai 4 (PC)

What is it? A samurai series, previously exclusive to the PlayStation, hits PC. Looks decent. Should you care? It’s a fairly big budget game. Reviews were mediocre. Probably skip this.

Yasai Ninja (PC)

What is it? A hack and slash game about samurai made out of vegetable. Should you care? Man, it looks okay. Just okay.

  • Aww yeah, Journey. Must have played through that at least half a dozen times on PS3. I’m sure I will end up doing it at least that many again on PS4.

    • So excited for Journey! Never got a chance to play it in PS3, so I’ve been waiting all year for it to come out on PS4!

      • Same here, it was one of those games I knew I needed to play but didn’t get around to. No excuses now 🙂

    • It’s a shame it never made it to any other platform, I would have liked to play it. Heard nothing but good things.

      • I think thatgamecompany’s next game is going to be multiplatform since their 3 game deal with Sony has ended (Flow, Flower and Journey) and they got funding from somewhere else this time. A lot of people left after Journey, though (I think they ran into financial trouble after going over budget and schedule on Journey), so I’m not sure how they’ll go. Jenova Chen is still running things, but a lot of others have gone. To be honest I’m surprised we still haven’t seen / heard anything about their next one – I was kind of expecting something out of E3 this year given how long it’s been since Journey.

        • Abzu is being created by some ex Thatgamecompany employees and it looks really interesting. Definitely one to keep an eye on if you were into Journey.

  • Also out this week:
    – Hatoful Boyfriend (Vita/PS4)
    – Phantom Breaker Battlegrounds Overdrive (PS4)
    – QUBE: Director’s Cut (PS4/3)
    – Skullgirls: Second Encore (PS4, Vita soon with crossbuy)
    – (edit) Tembo the Badass Elephant is supposed to come out this week too on most platforms.

Suikoden III was apparently delayed in AU/NZ due to a mix up with the age rating so we should see it in the next week or so. Fingers crossed for this week.

    • Thank you for putting in some effort and putting this list together – not sure why article author cant do the same – seems to always be PC games with the consoles getting nothing on these lists unless they are retail games

Anyway, Phantom Breaker is a certain buy, Skullgirls a very close send and maybe even Hatoful Boyfriend

    • Just the most beautiful haunting soundtrack. Cellos are great. 😀

And a game that gets under the skin. It’s the combination of this childlike glee and wonder, genuine fear, and despair, and hope.

      And scarves and jumping.

I’ll be having a replay for sure.

      • Right!?? I was listening to the soundtrack like, non stop for a couple weeks when it came out. Great background music for working.

        • Was so so happy to see Austin Wintory conducting the MSO playing Apotheosis during Tripod’s This Gaming Life.

  • Journey! Loved it. I think I read somewhere if you bought it on PS3, you got it for free on PS4. I can’t google to check myself at the moment.

  • I had a PS3 but never quite got around to playing Journey though it was on my “to play” list. I do have a PS4 so now would be as good a time as any I guess.

  • I know someone will kick me in the guts for saying this, but as awesome as this game is, it’s kind of a little sad that we a so excited for a port … a game that most of us have already played already to cover the void of exclusive nothingness on the PS4 right now. I get that the PS newbies might want to play this for the first time, but I guess I am just craving newness!

  • SO happy. This game spoke to me on such a profound level at the stage of life I was in at the time. Plus I deeply appreciate the marriage between the visuals and sound design. As someone who is trying to break into the game industry as a production artist it’s a level I aspire to! Layers man…

  • I thought Journey was cross buy. It appeared in store and the old purchase seems to be unavailable now and I have to repurchase it again?

    • Yep. I purchased it on ps3 way back when as well. Looks like sony have done the old “we’ll just put a brand new version on psn and say that’s the official version making everyone pay for it twice while telling them it’s free” Got our hopes up and dashed them magnificently. Well played, Sony.
