First GameTrailers, now GameFront. Come the end of the month, another internet gaming stalwart will bite the dust, with owner Defy Media calling it quits on the site.
A few days ago, GameFront managing editor Ron Whitaker posted the following sad update:
We are sorry to announce that GameFront will be closing its doors permanently as of April 30, 2016. Since our founding as FileLeech almost 20 years ago, we have always strived to offer the best file hosting alongside quality gaming content. To all of our fans who have supported us throughout the years, we thank you for making us your destination for gaming files. Despite name changes, ownership changes, and staff changes, you have always made our jobs rewarding and fun.
The post goes on to mention that the site and its hosted files will be lost to the online aether, so if you’re keen to grab anything before it vanishes, now’s the time.
On the one hand, it’s strange and upsetting to see these well-established sites of gaming’s online past close down. On the other, with standalone game patches and demos fast becoming relics, it’s hard to see sites that acted as repositories for them surviving into the future.

I’ll be honest … Never heard of them.
Was just thinking the same thing…
I haven’t either. But looking at the site, I am unsurprised they are shutting down. All the articles, files etc seem to be at least a year old. Some of their banner articles are two years old.
I used to get Company of Heroes maps from FileFront (If they are even the same place?).
Don’t remember visiting for anything else.
I used to download custom maps for C&C as well as community fixes from file front. It’s been a long time since I heard that name. I would be sad to see it go, if it didn’t lose all relevancy years ago
