PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS doesn’t try to hide the fact it requires a fair bit of computational grunt to run well, so any tip that stands even a remote chance of buying some extra frames is worth consideration. Depending on your configuration and Windows version, a decent FPS boost could be but a checkbox tick away.
A Reddit user with the handle “MimicTMI” swears by the following tweak, which transformed their framerate from 30-40fps to a smooth 60fps (V-sync on):
- Head to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\PUBG\TslGame\Binaries\Win64
- Right click to properties on “TslGame”
- Navigate to Compatibility -> check the “override high DPI scaling behavior” box, and hit “OK”. (Application from drop-down menu)
- Restart your game if necassery [sic].
Microsoft recently introduced some more comprehensive DPI scaling options with the Windows 10 Creators Update, so while Windows 7 and 8.1 feature similar compatibility options, it’s possible you won’t see any benefit if you’re running a superseded Windows flavour.
MimicTMI also doesn’t mention which DPI method they went with, so some experimentation may be required. Please note the image below is just an example from Microsoft to show where the checkbox is.
Of course, there’s nothing to lose by giving it a go. The Reddit thread has some troubleshooting discourse if you’re having problems getting the tweak to work, so feel free to dive in if you needs some answers.
