We’re just over three weeks away from Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and to celebrate, today Nintendo offered a bunch of new details for the upcoming Switch role-playing game, including a spotlight of the combat system and the reveal of a season pass.
In a Nintendo Direct this morning, the publisher showed off a new trailer and took a granular dive into battle mechanics and skills, to the point where it almost felt like we were all reading an instruction manual. In short, this is a JRPG. Just like its predecessors on the Wii and Wii U, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has a unique combat system involving swords, arts and timed attacks.
Nintendo also announced a $US30 ($39) “expansion pass” for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 that includes the following:
So in Australia, the new rare blade will be coming in autumn 2018, the new challenge battle mode in winter 2018, and a new story and adventure in spring 2018. Australian pricing for the expansion pass has yet to be announced.
If you want to catch all of the new footage and mechanics, here’s the full video:

So many subsystems, and animu. Day one 😉
I am distracted by her breasts. Has…has the artist seen breasts before? Are they aware that they don’t look like that? I mean, maybe the sword doesn’t understand how they work as they’re not a real human but she looks so unbalanced. I just…I feel sorry for the fictional character.
The guy’s balance appears to be fine though. Unless that thing on his back is heavy, then his stance should be different.
This is why I can never finish any art. Ugh
And likely most importantly for a lot of people, the addition of free day one DLC that puts in the original Japanese voiceover.
Yeah, this was a way more important detail. I hope it means that Nintendo is finally listening to their playerbase.
That’s just made it a day one for me. The previous games had decent voice acting but the voices in this ones Trailers were hokey AF.
Looks like I will need to purchase a Switch.
