Cosplay’s Coming Home

The team that’ll represent Australia at the World Cosplay Summit in Japan next year has been chosen! Congratulations to Team Australia 2019: K Cosplay and A.K. Wirru.

After China’s incredible first place performance last year the World Cosplay Summit, the longest running international cosplay comp, has seen some increased interest from the community again. This was pretty evident at the Australian preliminary competition at Sydney’s SMASH! convention yesterday.

After a few years of relatively low turnout for the event, this year saw seven teams competing to become Team Australia. The competition ultimately went to two former Aussie representatives and WCS veterans, K and Wirru.

You can watch the whole comp here courtesy of WCS Australia, or skip to 12 minutes in to see the winning performance.

Team Australia 2018 – the team that won at last year’s SMASH! – are preparing to head over to Japan as we speak. The finals take place in Nagoya on August 5th, and you can follow the progress of our 2018 representatives on their Facebook pages at Kirilee Cosplay and Giorgia Costumes.
