This Week In Games: The Ultimate Smash

It's the week most of you have been waiting for. It's Smash time. But for those that don't own a Switch, or don't care about Smash at all, there are some interesting titles you'll want to keep an eye on.

The first that comes to mind is Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden, an XCOM-style adventure featuring a bunch of mutants (including a duck) made by PAYDAY's lead designer and former Hitman leads. The trailer is bonkers, check it out towards the end of this article.

Nostalgia fans will enjoy the launch of the PlayStation Classic - if you're prepared to drop $149.95 - and anyone who needs an explosion or four in their life will have Just Cause 4 to appreciate. Hellblade also gets a retail release locally.

Now, the trailers. We'll begin with some Mutant Year Zero. And Tourist Bus Simulator, because it's the holiday season.

So, that's the offering this week. Smash will be the standout for most, although Just Cause has always had a following and there's the PlayStation Classic as an early, nostalgic Christmas gift. See anything you like?

Persona games are supposedly releasing on Vita as well, although from my research it might just be digital-only for that version. Any updates?

Jagged Alliance Rage releasing this week as well. Wait and see approach on this one...

Don't forget Rastakhan's Rumble expansion for Hearthstone and Black Armory DLC for Destiny 2 are also releasing this week

Looking forward to playing this new Monster Boy game, i only ever played the original wonder boy back in the day so Monster Land on the switch was new to me as well as this.

Another game out this week which only just popped up on my radar a couple weeks ago and not on the list above is Battle Princess Madelyn, it's a Ghouls 'n' Ghosts style game, there's also a limited physical Switch release going up on in a few days.

Thanks for reminding me about Battle Princess Madelyn. I heard about it a few weeks ago also but didn't realise we were so close to release.

I'm a sucker for the Arland Alchemist trilogy so I'll probably be triple dipping on this. (I have the PS3 and Vita Plus editions) The barrel love is real.

It'll be my first time. I bought L&S when it released on Switch earlier this year and am keen to dive into the Arland trilogy over the holidays.

Haha I'm in the same boat. I was wondering if I was gonna pick this up, as I own it on PS3 and Vita+, but then I realised "I will definitely play this again on Switch."

      Barrel squad 4 life

The trailer for Aeon of Sands made me gringe. I long thought we had moved passed such game styles. Honestly don't recall people clamouring for the retro PC 1st person RPG of yore.

Definitely one for the retro enthusiasts. I don't have the patience for anything like that.

Pretty much. Has the airs of a kick starter game. Since that site is a cesspool of toxic nostalgia.

It might be a perfectly find game but it's so utterly niche.

Toxic nostalgia? That's a pretty strong term. Why do you say that?

Man I kinda wanna be interested in that Rollercoaster Tycoon for Switch game.

The time has finally come for me to get my hands on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate when it comes out for the Nintendo Switch this week.
I'm very excited for the 74 fighters and that we are going to get 5 more fighters and 5 more new fighting stages as part of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC that will be arriving very soon as part of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass which I will be getting very soon as well.
I'm also pumped for the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate early purchase bonus for My Nintendo members like myself and that is purchasing the physical version of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on Nintendo Switch registering the game for Gold Points before the end of January next year to get the Piranha Plant DLC character for free.
The Ultimate fighting experience for me is almost here and I'm looking forward to playing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate to not only unlock all 74 fighters but also conquering Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's new Adventure Mode World of Light.
I'm sorry you had to see some people harassing you Masahiro Sakurai because they think Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is trash or the World of Light is rubbish.
But I believe in you Sakurai-San you are a genius and you definitely deserve a holiday break.
Enjoy the Christmas holidays with your family Sakurai-San looking forward to some Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC very soon
    God bless you Sakurai-San.

Smash, Just Cause 4 and Mutant Year Zero. Great week of releases for me.

Who the hell would pay money for PUBG at this point?

While I doubt there will be as many people on PS4 that buy it as there were on Xbox, I wouldn't be surprised if it sells a couple million copies still.

It'll be interesting to see how it pans out for sure - I just think Fortnite, which is free and more highly polished, has killed any hope PUBG had in the PS ecosystem.

Missed one: Yo-kai Watch 3 (3DS) on Saturday, December 8th (7th depending on who you ordered it from though)
god I'm stupidly excited for that...

Not sure how i feel about stellaris megacorp and its lootboxes

Even if its only using in game money and not microtransactions im not sure its okay that they have lootboxes, i know enough gambling addicts that use games as an escape to be cool with having gambling mechanics be shoved into their games

At least its not real money lootboxes but gambling addiction is an addiction and the psychological triggers for that endorphin rush happen wether its real money or not
