It’s reliably one of the best deals from a retailer that pops up all year: the JB 2-for-$40 deal.

The rules are simple. JB marks a range of games across all platforms – even two Wii U games and a Vita title are on the block this time. Pick two of them, and you get the pair for $40. (As a tip, that means you probably shouldn’t be buying things that are marked for $5 for $40.)

Generally, the sale is filled with a lot of classics and various exclusives. There’s plenty of good value to be found, but to make life easy, below you’ll find the best picks from the sale. Head here to the landing page for all available titles.

  • Resident Evil Revelations (XBO)
  • South Park: Fractured But Whole (PC, PS4, XBO)
  • OnRush (PS4, XBO)
  • Dissidia Final Fantasy NT (PS4)
  • Ratchet & Clank (PS4)
  • The Last of Us Remastered (PS4)
  • Bloodborne (PS4)
  • Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection (PS4)
  • Until Dawn (PS4)

  • Murdered: Soul Suspect (PS4, XBO)
  • New Art Academy (3DS)
  • Gauntlet (PC)

Watch Dogs 2 is the pick of the bunch there, as is Fractured But Whole if you haven’t played it. Grabbing Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 as part of this deal is pretty good value, and I know quite a few friends who wouldn’t mind shutting their brains off to enjoy Shadow Warrior or Far Cry 4. You don’t get much of a saving on the Nathan Drake Collection or Bloodborne, but if you haven’t played either or know someone who hasn’t, $40 for those four games combined is a solid deal.

Lot of smaller gems in the rough there. You can grab any of these games in-store, but if you want to browse online, head here to scour through the deals.

  • Some of those you can get much cheaper from EB second hand (which shouldn’t matter too much given their age) e.g. Mass Effect: Andromeda and Murdered: Soul Suspect.

    • Wow which EB?

Mine charges $69 for new second hand games and about $50-60 for older titles and around $$30-40 for really old or unpopular games.
Only time I see games for around $20+ is when it’s super old, super unpopular and they have an extremely large amount in stock.

        • Yeah I went to have a sneaky peek after posting and have found that EB is having a clearance and Andromeda is currently down from $35 second hand to $9.

Thats pretty good to be honest, rare, but good.

          • Well maybe it was $9 here too. I picked it up because I thought “$7 (or $9) you can’t go wrong!”… but then I thought of my pile of shame, so I put it down again 😛

          • Lol, I hear you, that’s my game shopping routine at the moment.
Find cheap game, realise I have limited time and a backlog and put it down while telling myself it will be cheaper later on.

          • I used to buy games on sale just because they were cheap, and then when I finally got around to playing them something newer (and therefore higher on my radar) would now be cheap, so the cycle continues.

          • True it’s been about $9 each time is been on sale in the Xbox Store but my pile doesn’t need extra shame at this point

  • Speaking of JB, I was thinking of trading in some ps4 games for the first time ever… Usually I never sell but I really don’t see myself ever playing some of these titles again.
What do people think? Is it like EB from years ago where you basically get ripped? Or is it reasonable?

    • I trade at EB games. Sure I’d get more from eBay but I don’t have the time to do all that.

At EBs, if you trade towards a pre-order (you can price match preorders on the release day) you get I think an extra 15% trade-in. I have a EB black membership card too which I think gives me an extra 25-30% trade in. Add that up and the value I get on games isn’t too bad. They have to make money too, which I’m ok with.

      • There is an exception. More and more, EB is offering pretty good discounts for new releases when you trade in two games. Catch is they have to be worth a tenner, but you can often save $50 or more on a big name release just by trading in a couple of junk games.

I got RDR2 for $29 with 2 games like that, and I think someone said they were doing the same with Far Cry New Dawn. I usually dont trade in either, but it was easily worth it.

In general though, you’re getting undercut from what you’d get from those other avenues, just because EB has to factor in a profit margin, whereas you’re the retailer if you go to Guntree or Ebay.

    • …or in this case, For Honour hit the PS+ collection BEFORE JB put it on sale. I suppose some people might want a physical copy, but paying $20 for something that you can get for free is kind of weird to me.

  • In regards to EB Clearanc ei was able to get a price match at JB for Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception/Mask of Truth and Cyberdimension Neptunia 4 for $12 total

  • Annoyingly, despite their seeming policy of mass expansion, my local JB Hifi is shutting down.

Might have to finally cave in and just buy everything online 🙁
