Community Review: Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled

Did you spend your weekend racing through Roo’s Tubes? Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled brought the classic kart racer back in a big way last Friday – and we want to know what you think.

For many (myself included), Crash Team Racing was the original and only racing game of their childhood, and there’s always an element of risk in bringing something so beloved back for a new audience.

But, by all accounts, Beenox and Activision appear to have pulled it off, with high praise heaped on the game since its release.

While the hefty loading times can be a bit of a pain in the ass, Nitro-Fueled is a loving recreation of everything that made the original game fantastic, and it injects a hefty (and much needed) dose of content into the game with its brand new customisation system and additional tracks from Crash Nitro Kart and Crash Tag Team Racing.

Every track has been given a stunning facelift, and a whole new world of choice is available to players with new karts, characters, vehicles – and even stickers. It builds on the original wonderfully, and even improves a lot of things, too.

So, how did you feel about Nitro-Fueled? Did you enjoy the changes? And to answer an age-old question – is it really a better game than Mario Kart?

  • The only things I can nitpick

1\ Sliding now dives into corners more
2\ There seems to be a slight increase to the geometry in tracks like Papu’s Temple
    3\ Loading times.

One missed opportunity however was to increase Adventure mode with the new tracks from the newer games.

Otherwise, its been a pretty great remaster. The details around the tracks are magnificent IMO, with tracks like Roo’s Tube’s aquarium just being awesome.

(Also, yes, CTR is better than Mario Kart).

  • I think it’s great, but I may be speaking with heavy feelings of nostalgia!

There are a few things I’m finding hard to get used to, mostly how power sliding is very aggressive rather than smooth, but overall I think the mechanics are solid, the racing is fast (but feels mostly fair), and that it looks stunning!

I don’t really mind the bit longer load times either, to be honest. I don’t think they are too long, but maybe slightly longer than what people are used to these days.

Me and my partner are enjoying working our way through the story mode, switching controller for each race though 😀

Good to have another couch split screen game on the market!

  • I have to wait until its on PC, so i don’t know how good it is 🙁
Still it was/is one of my favourite games of all time so i am looking forward to it.

Also yes, it’s definitely better than mario kart (which i had played a lot before ever playing CRT, so its not just my first being my favourite)

  • Muscle memory seems to have made it incredibly easy.
Also, considering how poor my memory is for pretty much anything, I seem to have retained complete knowledge of CTR locations and shortcuts.

I couldn’t recommend it any more highly, it’s wonderful.

  • I’m actually very happy for Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled despite the loading times I loved the Adventure Mode defeating Nitrous Oxide and earning Wumpa coins to purchase skins for your racer along with stickers paint jobs and new racers in the Pit Stop.
Beenox have done a fantastic job doing development for the game and I definitely can’t wait until Beenox delivers us free seasonal post-launch as part of the CTR Nitro Fueled Grand Prix starting next month.
