Do we refer to you as “Award winning journalist Mark Serrels” now?
It’s my day off and I’m going to go get some delicious coffee this makes me sad.
On the other hand, here’s some Buttercup I prepared earlier.
I finally encountered a Black Phantom. They’re bastards.
-
I never had any players invade my world though I did invade other players a couple of times. I even won once when the enemy player rolled off a cliff.
I decided to rent the game for another week and ended up beating it on Sunday with a soul level 88 character. I’m going to have a go at playing through again with the NG+. Game’s 40% harder now. I’ll see how far I can get before I have to return it on Friday.
I’d stick with the black leather armour if I was you. For the first part of the game I was wearing heavy plate armour for the defence but I changed to the black leather because the mobility and increased stamina regain is way better then the added armour you get from heavier sets. Just make sure you have a good shield and maybe pick up the warding spell.
-
“I even won once when the enemy player rolled off a cliff.” That sounds suspiciously like the BP who killed Buttercup. OMG Bunny! Dire Wolf invaded you and made you die!
-
In Buttercup’s defence, she didn’t roll off the cliff, the knockback from the sword knocked her off the cliff.
-
-
I actually do have the Warding spell, I just keep forgetting to equip it now that I have enough spell slots to have both Warding and Soul Ray. I’ll be using it soon, the next update takes us up to the shortcut in Stonefang Tunnel and then after that it’s back to the Nexus to equip it.

Hey guys!
So, I have a favour to ask of you guys. Not a very big one, but a favour nonetheless. About a 14 months ago, I lost a pretty a good man to cancer. He’s the guy that got me into comics, that made me enjoy writing, and he was an all round awesome guy. And then he got cancer. He struggled with it for more than 2 years, until he finally passed away in February 2010. So, this year, a bunch of friends and I will be doing Relay for life, where we basically run/walk around Albert Park lake for 24 hours. Odds are, some of you know someone who has been affected by cancer. So all I’m asking for is some donations. Donations can be however much you want them to, and are tax deductible. Please donate, it’ll go towards both research, as well as helping to support those who already have it.
Here’s the donation link under my name:
Thanks guys!
-
Can you put that link in the ‘Website’ box so we can click your name we have fundage and don’t forget?
-
I don’t quite understand what you’re asking…?
-
Yeah, sorry. I’m ashamed of that sentence, it really was a mess! I’m not a morning person….
I meant that if you could make your username here a link to that page then people can click on it when they have moneys they can donate. Especially people like me who forget things easily and don’t have any money today.-
Good idea!
-
I like this idea. Also, Kotaku just swallowed up one of my comments. I am sad now.
-
I WILL FIND IT!
-
i TRIED TO CONGRATULATE YOU mARK! GOGOGADGET CAPSLOCK!!!
-
Mark Serrels: With a PhD in kicking your ass, and winner of the 2010 IT journalist award for best gaming journalist.
He will search the archives for your missing posts, he will respond when questioned to the nature of his pants, and he will have his Nintendog destroyed by Elly.
He is, a Gamez Jarnalist.
-
-
-
I donated a little bit of money for you, but there is a condition.
You must now do the entire event dressed as Waluigi.
Or not. Really, it’s your choice.
-
I think he should do it as Weegee.
http://images.wikia.com/nlrandom/images/2/20/Weegee.png
That would be great.
Your top attitude made me completely unable to resist in giving you some funds. Go Hard NotR!!!! 😀 Great cause!
I did it, I finished Nier with all the endings!
I’ve never gone the distance with trying to see all endings of a multi-ending game before but Nier did everything right by not making it a chore. Starting from half-way instead of back at the very beginning was a smart move and extra cutscenes and conversations made it seem like a different game. It was incredibly moving to see things from a different perspective and refreshing to be able to try out a playstyle I never usually use: just rushing through and not worrying about any sidequests or exploring. When you see the final ending all your save files are erased which was a nice but scary touch. Although I did start a new game just to experience the first part again with all my new-found insight.
I loved every minute of this game and while I’m proud of myself for finishing, I’m also sad it’s over.
-
How sad are the scenes with the robot enemy?
-
I know! I can’t believe they made me kill all those enemies again after showing me their stories. 🙁
-
How much easier are some of the bosses when you know the pattern already?
-
-
-
I still havn’t gotten much past the fishing intro. I really need to have a go at it.
I just wish i’d never watched that Zero Punctuation review where he mentions that when Neir jumps it looks like God’s yanking on his nipple rings. It’s all I see when i press jump now.
-
HEHEH, I never really got over that, but the game is so good I didn’t care!
-
On my way to work, dropped son off at daycare. Back to the same roundabout that I was at 5 mins before and a dude had come off his bike. Slid about 10m then hit a drain. Broken arm and ribs.
I Think I was there within a minute or so of it happening. Just a suggestion to all to do some sort of first aid training. A guy rocked up with a first aid kit from his car and looked at me saying he didn’t know what to do with it.
Kept him still and wearing his helmet. His legs were raised which helps avoid shock. Talked till ambos arrived. Nothing else needed treatment.
No saying I know that much about it and my first aid certificate expired year ago but at least make sure that if you do ever come across this stuff you can help.
-
Even though I’ve never taken a first aid course, I have always paid attention when people have taught any level of first aid, and really.. you just never know when you’ll need it. I came home from work one day to find a guy rolling around in the middle of the road.. wasn’t sure if he’d been bashed or what had happened, but he was rolling around in front of his car. He managed to tell me “esky”.. so i hopped in his car and found his esky. Looked inside and saw some Jelly Babies. Soon as I saw that I knew it was a Diabetic attack. Rushed them to him and fed him one as I tried to hold him still, and sat with him til he was better. All the while it was absolutely bucketing down rain mind you. Still, had I not been told before about Jelly Babies being a treatment for that kind of thing, I’d have been useless. It really pays to store those little tips away (much like I have with the CPR tips I was given at school.
-
My school did almost-mandatory First Aid courses at the end of grade ten, which is something I support. Even if they got some of their facts wrong…
-
Great work FS! First Aid training is essential, did my course (admittedly 6 years ago now) via work. Since I was team-leader on my shift it is pretty much essential for someone at least to know what to do. So yeah, what you said, get training of some kind!
TAYmunity Announcement -
I did one when I lived in Darwin…
3 days, and it was intense, full on MacGuyver stuff.
How to ID and treat.Absolutely brilliant it was.
Moved to Adelaide and went to renew it.
Half a day course, and everything was… call an ambulance.
It was just… piss weak.
I always do it.. Say I’m gonna play something in the end of week What are you Playing this weekend thread, and then promptly spent my time playing something else :0
Anyway, I got myself going on another pile o shame game. 3d Dot Game Heroes! OMG! I knew this game had potential.. I knew it was gonna be sort of like zelda.. I had no idea it was gonna mind my fucking blow!! It seriously is like the updated zelda I always wanted to have! And talk about funny! I love the way they’re always taking little jabs at other games and 3d itself. Like a girl in the first town who commented that it’s so much harder to clean up in 3d cos you can see so much more! LOL! I only had time to clear the first temple thus far, but damn.. this is looking like one epic game! If you loved zelda on the snes, and you have a ps3.. do yourself a favour.. go get this game if you haven’t already!!
-
!. Totally agree with first sentance, I never say what I’ll play cos it jinxes it away!
2.I am jelly!
-
Unfortunately for me, my husband played that before I did, so by the time I got to play it the music that had seemed so charming when I first heard it was smash-something-annoying. I hate it when game-music won’t stand up to repeated listenings.
-
yer it’s definitly not zelda charming.. i wont exactly be walking around 10 years from now humming it to myself, but thankfully you can turn the music off! The game itself is soooo hella cool! Well wortht he play even with music off!
-
Played a 3DS on the weekend, quite liked the AR games.
Wasn’t so bothered by the 3D, kept closing one eye and the Mrs got motion sickness in about 20 seconds.
FaceBlaster/raiders/whatever was fun.
-
Got to play one also this weekend. Did as it said on the tin. Just not sure the 3D is required. And damn it I tried using my fingers as touch input and tried tapping the top screen.
How did that not come up in play testing and they realise it’s not that intuitive. Anyway impressive technology but won’t get one.
-
I use my finger on the touch screen all the time, there was one point where I used my nose. It worked… well enough… ish. I also try to touch the top screen all the time, it’s annoying because in Pokemon they usually have yes/no options on the bottom screen, but then sometimes they don’t.
-
The pokémon games on DS have the most ridiculously unintuitive, badly playtested, cobbled together touch interfaces I have ever seen. And they only get worse with each iteration!
-
I only use touch during fights.
-
-
-
I want one for all the must have games that will happen. Stuff like Mario Kart and Pokemons and Final Fantasy remakes.
I can wait, I did it with PSP.
-
Congrats to the team for their impressive win/s last week. You do rock.
I also want a detailed post about it that includes sughly’s picture with the rainbow.
-
Speech! Speech! Speech! Speech! Speech!
-
Yep, huge (and deserved) congratulations!
I also vote for some kind of write up including Sughly’s awesome art. Oh, and a video of Sir. Pegg Legg’s speech the twitterati were so impressed by.
-
Plus 7!
Congrats to the team, I hear you gave a great speech Mark, we’d all love to see if someone at allure taped it!!??? Please!!??
Also, I’m still cross with whoever it was who chose to serve Taco’s, which while great, is not a dress/suit/tie event food.
-
-
Sughly should start drawing for weekly TAY comics, I really like his art style!
-
Mark won? Congratulations! 😀
I was away from my PC this weekend, so I’m sorry for not congratulating you sooner -
Congratulations to all Allure Media winners!
Give us a recording of Mark’s speech!
Hmm, I think I had a few scraps from last week I meant to wrap up… Oh Yeah:
Sir-Eats-A-Lot: I can’t believe I forgot about SexyGlade, he is most probably the best player on SEA. I don’t think I’ve seen him play though, or if he did it was as a joke match, or else I was unconscious or something. The reason a fair few of the high tier players know me, is because a friend of mine used to host informal little KotHs every few nights, which we would cast to all the observers. For some reason lots of the top tier got involved, so I got to talk at them about lots of inane shit, like how cool the word undulating is while describing an ovarylord. Eventually he got too cool for me though, as he started hosting the SC2SEA KotHs, but now he’s postponed his ingame activity to “live his life” or something.
Shane: That really, really sucks. Best wishes to get back on your gaming feet ASAP.
Finally, though no-one probably cares, my 3000 word opinion piece on Sucker Punch, which you have to read on Facebook, because I’m exceedingly lazy.
http://on.fb.me/gqRO4H
-
I didn’t read it all, because I haven’t managed to see the movie yet, but I like “lolboobsguns” so I’m guessing I’ll be in the ‘love it’ camp.
Also, are you posting it on Facebook because you secretly want us to make you our Friend? 😛-
I’m posting on Facebook because that’s where I usually post my creative writing. Things like my exceedingly immature rant against peoples responses to the recent earthquake near Japan, an overanalysis of Beauty and the Beast, where I conclude that Gaston is in essence, The Doctor (or a bizarro form of Belle), or the FUCIT, a quiz to analyse whether or not you’re addicted to Facebook.
-
Oh, so you don’t want to be my friend? *sadface*
But I don’t have enough ‘friends’, how will I lengthen my E-nis now? 😛-
Well Strange, feel free to add me as a friend, just know that I will then proceed to look through ALL YOUR PHOTOS and everything you have done IN THE LAST THREE MONTHS in a way that is NOT AT ALL CREEPY because that WOULD BE WEIRD!
-
I’m totally taking you up on that challenge and sent you a request.
Congratulations – you just broke my self-imposed restriction of not adding more FB friends >:
-
I sent a request too. I’m gonna give him a pop-quiz later.
-
My mouse slipped and I accidentally added you 😐
-
A lot of men died, so I figured I’d better honour their memories by accepting your request….
-
-
-
Hmm, I have 2 friend requests, this is probably the most I have ever gotten in a single day…
-
I read your review, but I don’t know what to think of it.
-
Do you mean the review, which is rather schizophrenic, or you don’t know what to make of the movie, due to the schizophrenic review?
oh ho ho ho, I see. That’s pretty cool man. Did you secretly film their playing to gather strats. I would have. And then hugged the footage afterward.
That’s totally not creepy of me at all.
And lol @ sexyglade!!
-
I did save some of the replays, but I just don’t have the micromanagement to handle it all. I have quite a high APM, but it’s all task focus, so I can micro my units really well, but I’ll sacrifice my macro to do so, stuff like that. I’m a pretty big noob when it actually comes to playing. I’m going to assume that based on all this you play it, so am I allowed to ask for your name stuff?
I’m cTBlaghman, and my FC is 498. Unless the ladder reset changed it…-
This is going to sound odd but I actually don’t play SC2. I just follow esports as part of my role
as an eSports journalist, so yeah.I do play some other games competitively though, just not SC2.
-
I was going to add “or are you one of those weird people who just watches sports” but decided against it. Oh well. Out of curiosity, what eSports do you tend to cover, and what do you play?
-
But I AM a weird person! 😀
I cover the Arcade scene exclusively, but keep an overall eye on the Aussie eSports scene.
Competitively, I used to play Tekken and Warcraft 3. Less so now. I never really got anywhere with the Warcraft 3 because the scene here is small, and my internets back then was just so terrible, so you’ll never have heard of me!
Nowadays it’s a mix of TF2, DOTA/HoN, CS:S and Tekken.
-
Nice, I always sucked at Warcraft 3, but that was more related to my age combined with my lack of information. It’s scary to me that Idra was such a well known BW player when he’s less than a year older than me (although he got pro reasonably late in its life). If you ever decide to play Starcraft, give me a shout, I love watching new players. (One of my friends kept treating it like Brood War, and so didn’t rally his Drones to the mineral line, many lulz were had)
-
-
Just read your analysis – I agree with some things and disagree with others (50/50, maybe), but overall I enjoyed it too!
*high-five*
…more on it later, though!
-
The shortened review that I should have written (but that I needed to write the first one to understand) is this: While many may dismiss this film as stupid and degrading, I would argue that it is far from it. The ham-fisted nature of some elements hides just how intelligent and subtle this film can be. Overall, a love of Snyder’s work is a must to get the maximum enjoyment out of this film.

KOTAKU SYDNEY MEETUP
It’s happening. IT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK, OR I WILL CRY.
WHEN – Saturday, 16th April. Meetup at 12pm.
WHERE – Sydney CBD area. I propose we meet up on George Street EB Games. For those unfamiliar with the area, link here -> http://bit.ly/gWlhwU
Nevermind the inaccurate photo!
WHAT – Lunch, hopefully some gaming to ensue.
If you have any q’s, feel free to ask/discuss here!
SEE YOU ALL THERE!!!
-
I’m totally there.
-
Hear that everyone?
MARK’S BUYING THE DRINKS!
Now I’m really disapointed that it’s not in Adelaide.
-
-
I’ll walk past the store but if there’s any scary-looking people in there, I’m running away! 😛
-
I think I’ll employ a similar strategy.
-
Maybe I’d best not go. Woudn’t want to make everyone run away.
But on a more serious note I think I can make it, i’ll have to doubel check if i’m working that weekend or not.
-
Sounds great Sir Eats-a-Lot
But won’t be able to make it…sigh.I’m sure it’ll be a success so we can do another one pronto !
-
-
-
Doable but tricky… will have to leave by 1:30 at the absolute latest to make it home in time to play soccer. Let’s see how it goes!
-
I would love to meet up with kotaku folk but my commitments to footy means no love from me.
-
I’m there. I’ll be the guy in the trials hd hoodie.
I just hope its cold or I’ll look like an idiot.
-
Thanks everyone. It’s going to be heaps EPICALLY AWEWSOME.
And we can do the lavishing-of-praise thing to Mark IRL.
Disclaimer: Unicorn and rainbow may not be included.
-
-
erm… I may make it, I’ve got something on in the early afternoon. Where will we eat, because I may just skip the EB games meet-up (I like my sleep, damnit!)
I’ll be there, I just don’t know when xD
-
I’m there!! Oh wait…. its a SYDNEY RULZ THE UNIVERSES THING AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *breaks down sobbing like a girl*
-
Yeah, I reckon Mark should take Kotaku on the road. Do an epic Kotaku World Tour (or at least Kotaku Australian Tour)… travel the nation meeting all the Kotaku regulars and buying them beers.
-
Yeah! And we can smoother him with coconut oils all over his chest and gently roll him over back and forth in the sun….
-
Wow… that’s so disturbing.
Even if you’d told me in advance that you were going to say it so that I’d be ready for it and not caught so flat footed when you actually said it, it’d still be disturbing.
Now I’m afraid to go to sleep… I’m dreading what my dreams will be like tonight.
-
-
Yeah, the single other Canberran reader and I will get to meet up! Wait, someone else is from the ACT, right? Right?
-
-
-
I sooooooooooo want to make it, but I’ve got a lot more work than I expected and I’m really only a 50/50 chance at the moment.
If it’s a success (and why wouldn’t it be?!), can we have another around June/July…? 😀
(Strange will have to come back down again, of course 😛 )
-
Mark should hold up a Kotaku sign like a tour guide 😀
Morning Kotakuians!
For the regulars on Minecraft, I think I may drop on the server a little less often before I get my lag issue fixed. May try to get RAM upgrade, but I don’t know if 1GB to 2GB will make a significant difference. Netbooks aren’t really designed for gaming in purpose. I hope I can hop back on before tree city is finished and I can make more “I got wood” euphemisms. 😛
And are we having the Sydney meetup on Saturday 16 April? Any specific plans on what to do? How to meet? etc.
-
I dunno how much it will help you with the ram either, but from what I was reading, some people went from 10-12fps to 20-30fps when they upgraded their netbook ram, so there’s hope for you at least! Ram is pretty cheap aswell, so at least it wont break the bank!
-
It looks like my lag problem is now much less than it once was… but again no players were online when I was on yesterday. I had to quit cuz it was night and a creeper was outside my front door, so I was stuck lol.
RAM upgrades are always good no matter what, if you can get it and you know you can install it onto your system, do it!
No handle…… Heavy Metal Kings.
That is all.
I just wanted to thank FatShady and the rest of LCT for inviting me to their virgin minecraft world. I lost pretty much all of Saturday in there, and a few hours yesterday farming material for the project.
-
No probes dude.
You know what. Batguy loves my iPhone morning typos so I’m leaving that one for him.
-
Cheers. I LOLed at the typo and the nod in my direction!
-
Fun to have you in there mate! Also thanks to all the MC gang for not going completely mental over my daughter!!
-
Damn, did I miss something unbelievably adorable?
-
-
-
ME3 Game Informer thingy (there are scans floating around for anyone who doesnt have an issue):
whaaaaaaaaaaaaat
Things to note:
1. Ashley looks weird and now looks like they crossbred Ashley and Miranda
2. Boobs ninja. According to a friend, “its very unit 02 meets MGS”
3. No mention of Tali, which apparently has people in an outrage? I mean, I like Tali, and she’s a pretty cool guy who doesn’t afraid of anything, but surely after ME2 with her kind of surprise reveal, you’d realise Bioware are doing the same thing, and wouldn’t shoot themselves in the foot like that.
-
Don’t care what Ashley looks like now, that xenophobic bitch won’t be appearing in my ME3 games. My FemShep will be happy to see Alenko again though, having stayed faithful to him even though he shunned her. *sob*
-
Mmm. Alenko <3
-
-
I’ll just be happy if Samara comes back with the option to romance her.
-
No Tali?! DEAL BREAKER FOR ME! … kidding… still pissed off though 😛
Sounds more like EA pushing for results too soon again to me
-
I’m ok with there being no Tali… the people on the Bioware forums are pretty damn creepy about her.
I’ll be vexxed if Reager doesn’t show up with their fleet though… I was counting on that firepower.
-
Rufio! Rufio! Ru-Fi-OOOOOOOOOOOOOh!
-
near-sighted gynocologist
-
You lewd, rude, crude, bag of prechewed food dude!
-
-
Pockets, pockets, POOOOOOOOOOOCKEEEEEEEEEEEEETS!
What’s the weather like in Sydney? Do I need to go shopping for warmer clothes to wear this weekend?
-
Pretty cosy at the moment.
-
Madness!
The week before last, it was all gloom and doom, but then it cleared up, but then it uncleared up yesterday, but now it’s brilliant. Bright blue sky, not a cloud to be seen where I am.
Probably best to check closer to the day. :\ -
It’s fine, you probably don’t need to worry.
…but I wear shorts throughout the entire year, so I’m not sure how reliable I am…
I just bought a new monitor to use with my laptop when writing.
13″ MacBook Airs are great for many things, but trying to use them at a desk for an extended period of time is a bit of a strain on the old peepers. Pictures would follow, but it seems like my iPhone does not like the lighting in my room, so you can’t see what anything looks like.
I really should be a camera nerd like the rest of my friends, I’m sure one of the chunky DSLRs they carry around would take this photo without any hassles.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I bought my final two books from Borders last weekend, and good ones too:
– Mogworld
– (Insert other name that I can’t recall as I’m at uni)
This was my final adieu to Borders. Did anyone else get any last-minute books from them?
-
I would love to get mogworld but ad an audio book read by yahtzee. Is that available
-
That would be awesome… but alas, I don’t believe it is available! 🙁
-
-
I went to Borders at Garden City but they’ve already sold basically everything worth buying.
Decided to shelve my 3DS until a decent crop of games arrive (Zelda, Mario, Harvest Moon, Star Fox etc). Didn’t plan on buying the 3DS til some good games were released, but I saw the sale on CatchOfTheDay, and decided to give it a shot (for $200, why not) and was one of the lucky ones :). That being said, never played a PilotWings game before, is it worth picking it up to get some use out of the 3DS?
-
Pilotwings 64 was a lot of fun and became quite challenging at the end.
Anyone else keep getting a white page saying error 503 (I think it was 3) and the message “Service Temporarily Unavailable”?
-
Yeah, it’s been happening since Thursday-ish last week, apparently they’re having back-end issues. The main problem being that I repeatedly refresh every time I get it, as others likely do, which can’t really be helping their server…
In the words of Cory Doctorow:
‘Here’s a fantastic animated adaptation comic/skeptic/awesomesauce purveyor Tim Minchin’s poem “Storm,” a verse-form rant about the miseries of woowoo, the glory of science, the delights of skepticism and the miracle of the actual world.’
JUST got back home from *groan* shopping. The ladyfriends weekend is mon/tues so thats when I have those kind of things on. But you guys arent even past page 1 yet?! Cmon, its gone lunch time! I’m still too lazy to read all of whats been said above tho… I skimmed.
Thats all. I have nothing interesting to contribute. Except an apology to Blaghman for being a dick over his film review. I’m really a harsh film fan Blagh, I still love you!
-
Don’t worry Sughly, I don’t mind. I’m internally harsh to films, but I have weird taste, so I can understand a normal harsh critics point of view. I’m not sure what I’m trying to say here, but I forgive you.
No wait. Uhhh, you were mean to me and I cried, I demand a drawing as compensation… *cough*
Its a small world after all…. *in my best singing voice*
I just got a new PC at work. As a result i had to spend a hour or more with a number of our IT dudes to get it sorted. As it turned out, Kotaku was open on my PC. Starrted talking and after a few minutes, it got to the point where you say.. oh, you a Kotaku regular, do you know my mate?… which is almost always NO.. but this time it was YES.
Bukake Kane it seems is the mate of my IT bloke at work! He is also the only Kotaku person i have met IRL (Dead Rising launch) so it was extra special… Anyway, Funny story i had to share.
-
I met TadMod once, a bit of a twat.
I am keen to meet everyone on the weekend though! I’m working on my scottish accent to make Mark feel more welcome amongst my nerdiness! 😀
-
I met JamesMacStoleMyHandle once.
Bugger stole my identity.
-
This sort of thing is why you won Kudos. 😀
-
-
Hey guys, if you haven’t already done so, you need to get yourselves down to your local K-Mart and get one of these http://www.impactposters.com/shopexd.asp?id=1530
It’s only $12. I bought one yesterday and it looks sweeeeeeet 😀
-
I have a rather large one of those rolled up under my bed…
I am so confused right now. I’m currently attempting to hack together a prototype for a game, so I can show results to a friend, so we can start actual work.
So I got working code (stolen from a tutorial in the UDK, and technically it’s script, not code, but whatever), I move it across to my stuff. Then half of it (the half I don’t need) works fine, the other half doesn’t work at all, until I hook up an irrelevant Vector to a thing (technical term), and lo and behold, it works about 25%. WTF UDK, are you high? I’ll admit, it’s been a while since I scripted, but I can find no logic behind this.
Oh well, just wanted to get that off my chest.
-
Strangely, I just set it up to more or less work how I want it to in the end, completely by accident.
-
Awesome, you use UDK too. I admit, I’m a bit of a copy-paste coder, but I usually use udk to render my 3D models.
-
I did a moderate amount in the UDK a while back, but I’ve never done any actual scripting. I’ve fone a bit of visual work with Kismet, but I’m going to have to dive into hard scripting (any seasoned coders should have cringed at that made up term) for some of the features. I think… It’s been a while. Currently all I have is a character who can move left and right on a plane, and a jump that only works if you’re already in the air…
-
Well, I’ve decided to go all Jeremy Clarkson and try making my own award winning indie game. I mean, seriously, how hard can it be? 😛
Does anyone know what the game making equivalent of a hammer is?
-
Flash. If you can’t manage to make a game in flash (pro-tip, take a tutorial, alter like, 2 sprites, and hey presto, you have your own game that people will play for some reason) then you should probably surrender.
Also, interesting that the first 2 posts on this page are both about game making.
-
I’m using Game Maker 8. It’s not too bad, I’ve already got a small working game thingy. It’s even got a glitch that makes my character look like he’s moon-walking or something.
And UDK, man it’s complex. I tried to follow a tutorial on how to change the camera view to a top down view, I copied the script from the tut, and it wouldn’t work… 🙁
I then tried Unity, and all I had to do was place a single camera…no code required 😀-
The UDK, hard? hahaha, Hahahah, Bwahahaha. Sorry *cough* Believe me, the UDK is not all that difficult. It does get some fascinating bugs (for some reason I keep losing stuff if I set my camera to be able to move, if it’s still it’s okay though), but once you understand Kismet, it’s not too bad (I’m only beginning).
The last game I made was entirely in PHP and SQL, it was a bitch before I worked out how it all actually worked.

When in doubt, scream “POWEEEEEEEER!” while doing a powerslide around a corner.
-
In 18 to 20 years when the boy grows up and leaves home I may sit down and work on a game. Prolly be a JRPG9suprise suprise) but maybe a platformer OR BOTH! SotN here I come…in 20 years.
-
Don’t you think it should be called an ARPG since you’re not making it in Japan? 😛
lol nah I get ya. A friend and I are getting ready to make a JRPG inspired game. I feel that I’ve got the skills for the art but we’re going to need someone to do programing down the line.
-
I’m happy to potentially offer my help, depending on what you plan to use. Then again, given script is my strong point, and I’m having such difficulties with Kismet, I may not be the best choice.
-
-
For those that don’t follow me on Twitter, I just thought I’d let everyone know that I have decided what to review next.
It isn’t one of the games that people suggested, although I do plan to review some of those down the track. I just needed something that was a little shorter for this week’s attempt. Mainly so that I could finish the game, or at least play enough of it to write a review, in the next two days.
I think I’ll keep what the game is a bit of a mystery for now.
Also, my monitor is not that stable, or my desk isn’t. Either way, my monitor shakes as I type. Fun.
A lot of advertising , not so much convo this week.
WHATS UP?

The price of cotton.

Hems.

My peni- Uhhh…

Peninsula??

Enchantment?

Peninsula!

I dunno, but I’m loving this coffee. Made from 100% arabica beans and blended with something something ok I’m tired of this joke already.
I finished Pokemon, now I just need to grab a ditto, and then it can be Zorua’s for everyone. One for you, one for you, and one fo- Oh, not you Jimu. None for you. And I could even pass my Victini around like it’s a cheap hooker. That’s what you do, pass them around, right?
-
I pooped down to eebee and got me a Victini, are you in Bris or do I need to move house then reconfigure my router for DSes??
I have a buttload of starters now. Took the Emereald Trjn sold me and passed along two of each and will breed more for swapsies.
Also doin it with my Platinum and my Firered. Will have to restart my Soulsilver but can’t bare to just yet, still have a few things to do…
-
Sadly, I’m the Canberran. So if we wish to trade you’ll have to work out how this ridiculous system works (I have friends down here who are having the exact same problems as you).
-
I found a tute online for my exact model of router so when we move and I am forced to set it up I will do it that way. At the moment the free time I get when the boy sleeps seems to be crazy putener time for the MRS so no fiddling with it then.
When we move she has no choice so I can just do it.
-
-
It’s like your beginning some complex operation there Jimu. Operation… pokemans.
-
‘Fun? FUN?! Who said it would be fun?! When they said catch em all, what did you expect? This aint no walk in the park, no run of the mill beat the elite four. Oh no… this is the real shit, right here. Catching them all…’
-
And you wondered why I wanted the advance games…
I am playing through Emerald now cos I’m scared the clock battery will dry up. Which limits the places i can visit and stops me planting berries, which I never use but I plant em anyway.
Think I’ll be taking a Pokebreak soon and get into that Dragon Quest that no handle picked up for me in the New York island land.
I am bored at work so I am typing waaaaaaaaaaay longer answers to question (that probably aren’t really questions) than need be.
-
-
Question,
I am picking up my 3DS Shortly, and decided since there are no ‘classy’ games out for it atm, I will go back and play all the DS games I have missed out on (never owned a DS).
My Housemate has Pokemon Black, so I will get white, but should I leave that one till last, and go back and play the others first?
I played Red on my Gameboy color so very very long ago. lol
-
Doesn’t really matter.
I guess it would be better to play them Platinum, HG/SS then White so that you make advancements in graphics rather than getting worse.
That said, each games has certain options and qualities that I prefer over the others.Don’t forget to check out:
Mario Kart DS
Final Fantasy 3 DS
Final Fantasy 4 DS
Dragon Quest 9
Castelvania Dawn of Sorrow
Diddy kong Racing
Final Fantasy Tactics A2
and many more that I’m blanking on right now.
DS is a great system, will be hard to top!-
Advance Wars
Elite Beat Agents
Professor Layton (series)
Phoenix Wright (series)
999Honestly, I’m holding off buying a 3DS for now, but if a new Advance Wars comes out, I’m sold. Either that or the Layton x Phoenix crossover game. Those would be the two system sellers for me.
-
How is 999?
-
This is a really tough call to make, because I think Phoenix Wright cases 1-4, 1-5 and Trials & Tribulations are amaaaaaaazing, but probably the best Visual Novel-type game on the DS.
It suffers the problem of weak gameplay (point and click adventure game type puzzles), with mostly easy puzzles, but the story is engaging and interesting with elements of pseudo-science and fictional history.
There’s been some great discussions on the GameFAQs boards about different ways to interpret elements of the story, though it’s been a bit quieter since the developer answered a bunch of fan mail to clear up bits and pieces. I really like when a game can generate so much discussion due to various interpretations, so things being clarified was a bit of a bummer, but eh.
All in all, pretty darn great.

Your recommendations are most amazing. I give you my big rubber stamp of approval!
Things that weird me out about Yakuza 4, Part 2:
Table Tennis.
More specifically, the need to stare at the opponent’s [always a young lady]… features to build up your heat meter for a winning shot.
And the fact their robe slowly comes undone the more times you smack the ball into them.
…
-
Sounds fantastic, I am jelly.
What’s with all the guys complaining about T&A recently. Suddenly everyone’s balls dropped off??
I for one love some boobage and am looking forward to the machismo that Duke will bring!-
HERE HERE!!
-
It’s just aaaaaaaaaaaaaawkward, man.
It’s like if you were playing Mass Effect 2 and you’re recruiting Samara and just when the cutscene comes on that introduces her and her boobs, a ladyfriend or your mother walks in and all they see is blue boobs and you’re like “The whole game isn’t just this I swear”-
As long as I’m not touching myself the Mrs seems to be fine. I swear the TV is WAAAAAAAAY worse.
-
I Concur, Its like TV is striving to push the limits to breaking point.. and further.. I don’t know why people complain about games at all!
I started watching Shameless (US) the other day and there are things in there that nearly made me blush.. and its tame compared to Spartacus..
-
… which is saying something, since the UK version of Shameless is probably worse 😉
-
Shameless is alright…
…but everyone should watch The Inbetweeners – it’ll have you frothing at the gash! [/injoke]
-
Inbetweeners is genius – and that line still has me cringing and pissing myself at the exact same time.

Civil War landed on my doorstep with a satisfying thud this morning. Looking forward to cracking that one.
Now just waiting on Nemesis…
Polished off Wanted on the weekend. Didn’t realise it was so vastly different to the film (Not that that’s a bad thing). I enjoyed it. although how much I enjoyed it, I’m not yet sure…
Handed over Chew v3 to my brother, but hopefully he’s done with it soon (bought it for his birthday with not-so-selfless motivations).
Now I’ve started on Spider-Man Noir: Eyes without a Face (Can’t seem to get the original anywhere – will pop into Kinokuniya on the weekend). Only a short way in, but I can see why Jimu’s not so keen on it.
-
1. Civil War…meh, get the New Avengers tie-in.
2. Really liked the bit in Wanted with the Batman and Robin fill-ins when the villain tells them that all anyone remembers is the camp TV show and how he used to be the scariest hero.
3. Told you, I been reading Spider-Mans for 20 odd years, I am an old, jaded, picky fan. Just didn’t see the point.-
1. Meh? Really? You mean this tie-in? http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/book/9780785148807/Civil-War-Avengers
2. I hear that! When I realised it was Batman my brain said something along the lines of:
“WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAA!!!”
3. So far the writing hasn’t impressed me much and I find the art quite cluttered.-
Nope, this one:
http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/book/9780785124467/New-Avengers-Civil-War-v.-5
I was underwhelmed by Wanted, as I am with a lot of Millar books, great ideas …poor execution, shitty finale.
His Civil War just seemed to be a lot of “tense” moments strubf together. He had a lot to say and then forgot to say it. BENDIS! cracks it with the Luke Cage issue of New Avengers Civil War.
I do you a list of must read Bendis books and you can compare if you like.
-
That gibberish word should be “STRUNG”

2 Things
1st. Awwwww http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rynvewVe21Y&feature=player_embedded
2nd. To Sughly, just a quickie, can I ask how your drawing your comics? Are you using a tablet? Cause I’m interested in trying one out but dont know where to start.
-
At least one of those animals is thinking ‘Lunch’ haha
-
I bought a cheap tablet…just have to wrassle the putener from the MRS tight, vice-like grip!
-
Yeah tablet ftw. I have a Wacom Intuos2, which is a pretty old model now. Theyre up to intuos4 (which look so sleek and black and sexy and mmmm, I want!). But seriously, they are reaaaaaally good. I started scanning sketches in and drawing over them (obviously I use photoshop, CS5 to be exact), but over time I just drew straight in ps. It does take a while to get used to, feels really spaz at first, but once you force yourself to keep going eventually it feels second nature.
-
Actually you know what… I have an old Wacom Bamboo which is essentially the same as my intuos except it has a smaller drawing surface and has less points of sensitivity. Honestly, I never noticed the difference in sensitivity myself, I think you’d have to be some amazing digital paint expert to tell the difference. But since I do cartoon stuff which is pretty flat I don’t use the sensitivity thing that much. Well, my point is I don’t use it since I got the intuos. You want it? Lemme find a link to show what it is… http://www.techfresh.net/wacom-bamboo-graphics-tablet/
-
I was gifted my intuos2, so I’d be happy to gift the bamboo too. If your keen just put up the postage and I’d be happy to! Caus you’re awesome 😀
-
GAH! *faints*
Your generosity is amazing and outstanding! I don’t know what to say! Except, well thank-you! It actually looks like a really cool model! (Super Happy Dance!) Ummm, if you can send me an email to jeffkent (at) pacific (dot) net (dot) au with payment details that would be outstanding! Kudos for this!!!!!!!!
-
-
WHAT A KOMOOOONITY!
-
-
Hrmmm doesn’t look like the indie game project is happening since we don’t have that much time and etc.
how about we make a short animation series on youtube or something? we got the community and talent, and an animation doesn’t require much time and effect as a game …lets create something great.
anybody interested?
-
I am but I never have the time. It sucks, I would like a creative output buuuut…theres always some shit that gets in the way. That and my addiction games.
-
opps i mean effort…damn we really need a edit button.
Yeah i agree their is always something getting in the way, but we have to suffer for our art, and sacrifice some time into making something creative.
i only got one idea that so far.
its about a retired super hero who cant help it but to do everything extreme, so do normal stuff like doing number ones which would rocket him in the sky due to the extreme pressure and etc.
Something simple.
-
I can prolly bang out some very sketchy character designs if you come up with concepts. I don’t have the time to sit down and put the proper work in, but I can get shit happening in that way.
And I mean rushed and crappy, I’m talking about banging out VERY quick sketches at my lunch break etc.
I need to get in the habit of drawing at night after getting the boy to sleep, my brain seems to go walkabout at night.-
sweet, that would help with the art direction.
also my mate drew me a picture of the main character ages ago.
link:http://imgur.com/xKrFs -
See, that’s way better than I have time for.
-
well your still needed, my mate way too busy with his job and cant help out, so u can still do ur sketches and stuff when needed, also i can do some artwork and i’m willing to do the storyboards and write it but we still need animators, i only know the basics of animation.
-
-
-
Yeah I’m a bit like Jimu here, as much as I’d love to do that community project the time is bad for me right now, really snowed under with the amount of work on my own game :'(
-
well you can still help out, Evey little bit counts, can be as simple as “o that character too hairy going to be hair to animate”
-
crap i mean hard not hair…really need to re-read stuff before posting.
-
Bunch of things, all at once:
1. Congrats to Mark and Kotaku. For some reason, I want to hear Mark going ‘Yo Adrian, I DID IT!’ but that just might be me. Anyways, congrats – that’s some great news!
2. What’s with all the console/hardware failures? I think my xBox RROD was just one of about a dozen different catastrophes! Stop it everyone – I want people to be able to focus on my pain, and sympathise an appropriate amount.
2a. It was definitely Morrigan who broke my xBox. She was the only NPC party member still standing at the time of meltdown.
Now for personal updates (for those who care):
3. I am writing a PhD thesis on The Simpsons (pending approval of topic). Permission to be jealous… granted.
4. I just submitted my graphic novel The Lesser Evil (see link on my name for more info) to four comic publishers. Wish me luck… now.
…Too late.
-
3. Jealous??
4. LUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!! Hope it goes well, you can definetly write.
-
Good luck indeed! Kudos for going through to the stage of sending through to publishers, takes commitment, for reals.
-
glgl!
Also PhD? Pshh, nerd (I’m totes jelly).
And yeah, what is it with people and their stuff breaking. I’m too afraid to even turn my Xbox on now.
-
Its OK, mine is still all systems go after its small lapse in playability 😀
On topic, good on ya! And good luck with the publishers! (Jimu is right, you are Jelly Maker)
-
Second oops… I dont think my Super-Link ™ was anything other than gibberish, let me try that one again.
http://whatabong.com/tag/dr-hibbert/Well, that link just gives away the picture. damn you internet.
In that case, here’s a picture of a cat, and if his gnarly package doesn’t excite the ladies, well, life just aint worth livin http://www.partyvibe.com/forums/attachments/jokes-humour/3635d1238624494-fml-f-ck-my-life-fucked-up-cat.jpg

…whoever was responsible for approving that should get fired 😛

2. Yep, it’s definitely Morrigan 🙂
3. Awesome! Which uni/department? Guessing it’s some sort of media/cultural studies PhD?
-
Thanks all for well-wishes. 🙂
If all goes well, I’ll be writing my thesis on the presentation of fatherhood in The Simpsons, and the ways in which it reflects the plight and internal contradictions in modern masculinity. And then the School of Cultural Inquiry at the ANU will make me a Doctor. Those fools!
-
So jelly – ANU is amazing, I hear. Good luck again 😀

-
MARK!
I AM NEEDY AND GET CRANKY EASILY, DID YOU GET MY EMAIL?! I SLAVED AWAY FOR HOURS ON IT!
*cough*
But yeah – just making sure, what with that (seemingly sentient and evil) spam filter. 😀
-
I got it. I liked it. I will post it!
-
Hi, just acknowledging your existance.
-
Aww, thanks Jimu – you’re always there for me! <3

So I’m going to get a new gaming PC and since I know pretty much nothing about computer hardware I’m not going to build one myself. Instead I went to a small computer shop I know of that’s really good and staffed with guys who know what the hell they’re talking about and they told me of two setups they sell that might match my needs. What do you guys think of these:
Computer 1:
CPU: INTEL CORE i7 870 2.93GHz
Memory: 4GB HDD
Hard Drive: 2TB HDD
Optical Drive: DVD Burner
GRAPHICS CARD: ATI HD5750 1GB Graphics
Network: Onboard Ethernet Port
Display: 22″ LCD
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium
Peripherals: 1: LIGITECH Wireless MK250
Keyboard/Mouse
2: BELKIN Surge Protector/Power
Filter
3: Internet Security
Price: $1599
Computer 2:
CPU: AMD 6 CORE
Memory: 4GB DDR3
Hard Drive: 2TB HDD
Optical Drive: Blue-Ray Reader
Graphics Card: RADEON 5770 1GB Graphics
Network: Onboard Ethernet Port
Display: 22″ LCD
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium
Peripherals: 1: Microsoft Keyboard/Mouse
2: THOR Surge Protector/Power Filter
3: Internet Security
Price: $1699
Both come with a 3 year warranty.
Are either of them good gaming computers? Which is better (I’m guessing the more expensive one)? Are they worth it? What sort of games would I be able to play on them and at what graphics setting (low, medium, high etc)? Do you think either of them would be able to play ME3 and Skyrim on at least medium settings?
-
I had a quick squiz at some benchmarks, and the second ones GPU tends to perform about 15% better than the first, and assuming you were using a benchmark setup, you’d be looking at very solid framerates on newish games on high graphics, resolution depending and all that. So, either would comfortably handle Mass Effect 3, most likely on high settings, if the running of the old ones stands true, and probably medium to high for Skyrim, but I’m not really sure.
Personally, I have an irrational hatred of AMD, and if my memory serves, their 6 core CPUs weren’t really worth it, but I’m not really sure.

The BluRay seems unnecessary on the second machine.
Personally, I’d go with the first machine but with the graphics card of the second one. You can skip the surge protector and anti-virus. There are free anti-virus programs out there and plenty of cheap surge protectors as well.
Also, that simply doesn’t seem like a good price for that machine. Taking a quick look at Umart, what you’ve listed costs about $850 + motherboard (not sure what you’d need there but maybe $230) + case/power supply + operating system.
I suggest shopping around a bit more.
-
Yeahhhhhh, what he said. A bit overpriced.
The extra $20ish you can pay to get a 5770 over a 5750 is worth it too, more bang for very little extra buck. And even saying that, I hear the 6850 is where it’s at these days.
Definitely try shop around more; buying individuals parts and getting someone to assemble them is going to be cheaper (I ordered all the different parts at MSY, and then they built it for me for an extra $70 including a one year warranty back in… 2008? Not bad if you don’t trust yourself to build your own machine).
-
-
Do they come assembled? They do seem a little on the expensive side to me. I could do a combo of the two.. (intel cpu and the better vid card) for around $1400 assembled.
-
See I’d listen to this robot, its calculations are absolute! How can you go wrong with a deal like that?!
-
-
Yeah even assembled those prices seem a little high. For reference http://www.centrecom.com.au is a website a friend gave me that has some really good prices. I wouldn’t expect most places to be able to match them but it gives you an idea.
The Intel CPU would be fine, I’d definitely go for the 5770 over he 5750, these shouldn’t be too much as the next series the 6000’s are out now (these are expensive though).
So I just wrote a post and hit submit but now I don’t see it here with “your post is awaiting moderation” underneath it like I normally see when I make a post. Did it go through or am I going to have to write the whole thing up again?
Hopefully it will be the post above this post if it went through in which case everyone disregard this message (though this post is more directed at Mark then anyone else).
-
Pfffft, Mark doesnt know anything about pooters. He just writes and plays games and stuff. And giggles over funny colours. And half naked men wrastling. Welbots gonna be all over your post in a minute…
-
I started Crysis 2 on the weekend (On Xbox).
It’s really pretty, but it’s somehow not gripping me.
I will say, the first cheevo, right after the opening movie… excellent, self referential, witty.
Well done Crytek.
-
Thank you
-
Your welcome…
but I haven’t finished the game yet so…
-
That’s fine, not many do…

Erg! Laptop batteries… Soooo ‘spensive!
-
$199!?
I could buy a small, central asian country for that! Then transform the nation into a laptop battery producing juggernaut!
I’ll call it Batterikstan! -
Yup. My battery’s been almost dead for a while now. Unplug my laptop from the power and it’s dead within 5 minutes. Can’t afford a new one. 🙁
-
🙁
-
Sell your laptop to pay for it…
-
So I’m at tafe for a week now. My tafe teacher is awesome I feel like calling him tangent king cause he goes off topic so much. Also jimu I read superman for all seasons. It’s not as good as batman long Halloween but I liked it nevertheless, I thought it was quite clever how the narrator changed every season and how the seasons had significance to his life Jeff loeb is quite good indeed.
-
Read that so long ago I can’t remember anymore…I did like it though.
In the first Superman/Batman book there is a few pages of them meeting as kids done in the same style, very clever!
Now you need to head over to Marvel and check out:
Daredevil Yellow
Spider-Man Blue
Hulk Grey (easily the best Hulk I have ever read, but there is no competition)One day they will finaly do Captain America White, not sure when since Loeb is the Animation exec and Sale is a very finnicky artist.
Plainview,
You know what they say about imitation:
http://www.kotaku.com.au/2011/04/while-you-were-sleeping-123/comment-page-1/#comment-250912
At least I hope you do. Because I don’t. I can only assume it is good though, something to do with the imitator being even more eloquent and erudite than the imitated.
At any rate I seek action. Therefore I implore you to act.
Batguy
(Dear God, I don’t know what is wrong with that man, but I think it might be contagious.)
-
Blasphemy & tarnation!! The humanity!!! What in the dickens kind of treachery be this most wretched act of sabotage??!!!!! i have been usurped by the Batguy.
The imitator indeed more erudite and eloquent than the imitated; a knife in my crestfallen back, the final and coldest nail in my coffin.
This is an affront to all that is moral and upstanding; a crime for all to see, fearlessly committed, beneath boldest light of day, amidst this the most unpleasant discontent of autumn.
Well versed in the art of war . . . but a most malicious act.
Cruel lament, where is it to be for me to turn to now at this the most darkest hour of all that is lost and godforsaken.
Cut loose and set adrift my fate is now to be; alone, cold, abandoned and lost at sea; there is no salvation here, not now, not ever.
A point of no return is reached where angels fear to tread.
This is entirely – this is unmistakably – what Mariah Carey’s character felt like in delightful feature film Glitter; and know i now and now i know . . . until the very very end.Love, rainbows, (pool) ponies and watermelon,
Plainview.

Fear not Plainview, I, Blaghman, will stand firm with you. Through the horrors you face, the trials and tribulations of your life, when ever any man lays claim to the bounty of your brain, I will be there. I will not allow for this usurper to continue. While violence may never remain the answer, I believe a strongly worded letter shall be enough. I must admit, I am clutching at straws, for not only do I lack your vivacity, I desperately cling to your every word, praying that I shall become enlightened. While it may never work, I beg you, turn to me Plainview. You shall not drift off, your old comments the only vestige of your existence remaining.
Stand firm my kinsman, while you may sway in your faith now, I know it is like a reed bending in the wind, it will return firm, and survive through the harshest storms.
Your ever faithful servant,
Blaghman.-
a strongly worded letter sounds to be something like just the perfect tonic! May i be so bold as to suggest, by way of a first draft:
Dear Batguy,
Please stop beating everyone at everything they ever do.
Go to the zoo, watch the monkeys, go to the park, feed the ducks, fall asleep on a park bench, wake up somewhere different for no reason in particulars; these are all suitably non-competitive past times that are equal parts fun & relaxing and will ensure everyone can keep winning without fear of swift reprisal from the Batguy.
Please report back, post haste, with a field report of your new, less competive pastimes (in an altogether non-competitive fashion . . . so to speak).
Sleeping on a park bench is a lifestyle, not a sport!!!
And don’t feed the monkeys: the zoo keepers, as I have come to understand time and time again, don’t appreciate it one little bit.
i went to the zoo last week and i saw them feed the crocodile . . . a baby goat.
Huh?
it’s not okay for me to share some of my delicious sandwich with the monkeys, but it’s okay to drop a baby goat into the crocodile pit.
Sure, that makes all the sense in the world and then some.
Plainview can’t forget this atrocity anytime soon.
Everybody cried and i went home (dust in my eyes) – i didn’t even stop in the park; it was the worst thing to ever happen to me at the zoo except for the time a baby lamb did a big poo on me and everybody laughed.
it was soooooooo funny – what a bunch of jerks, the people at the zoo are jerks, no kidding; ohhhh, quick, everybody look, a baby lamb did a big poo on Plainview, let’s point and laugh and take photos to share with all our pretty friends on facebook and twitter at some time in the not-to-distant-future . . . how splendid it will be.
Not for me, Meredith, how is that supposed to be fun for me?
Don’t get the wrong idea, the zoo is the most fun, but it’s just that sometimes the people there can be unkind.
A good thing is that sometimes they put the baby orangutan (the ginger cococut-head man) in a nappy which is pretty much the funniest thing of all time, it kills me, it kind of also makes me sad too, but I don’t know why.
I also like (love) the sun bear, but he never seems to be in a nappy. I want to go to see a polar bear because i have never seen one before, but i don’t know if they have nappies for polar bears – you would probably need to get the Depends brand adult diapers if you were ever to try and put a nappy on a polar bear.
And you can bring your own sandwiches to the zoo, or choose from a wide selection of sandwiches available for purchase at the sandwich shop that is actually at the zoo.
i thought maybe if you bought a sandwich at the zoo then you might be allowed to feed it to the monkeys, but you’re not allowed to do that either.
They have lots of rules at the zoo, but it’s still fun all the same.
Love & best wishes,
Plainview.

Dear Plainview,
I offer you my most sincere apologies. My posts were not made in the spirit of competition. Rather, I found myself in a bind and wished to converse with you. Given that you do not seem to inhabit the same plain as us mortal folk (something hinted at by your name, perhaps?), nor share the same language, I sensed that I needed to lift my game, bridge the gap, and take one small step for mankind. So I dusted off my long-forgotten +10 cloak of verbosity and produced the prose that lies before us.
While I may share a similarly effusive vocabulary, I can never lay claim to the wealth of fantastical experience that you do. As such, my tales are wordy but ultimately hollow. There is only one Plainview, now and forever, and I am not that man.
Amen.
Regardless, I made contact with the alien mind, received my answers, found my relatives and possessions intact upon my return home and was able to watch the video. So the mission was an unmitigated success.
The video was fulfilling, but has set my brain afire. It has made me immensely jealous of David Letterman and I want to take his job. Who knows, it may even result in me becoming the subject of a future Plainview and Bronson flipbook video?

PS: To answer Blaghman below, this sort of stream-of-consciousness writing doesn’t really work with a thesaurus – at least in my experience. You just use the most appropriate word that springs to mind – and you’d be surprised at just how often that word is perfect for the task, even if it is one that you have neglected for many a year. Almost like it is sentient, and though it has lain dormant, it is now awake and clamouring to be used… -
PPS: I guess that original postcript was actually directed originally at Jimu THEN Blaghman. Sorry Jimu. Hope we can still be friends.
-
i’m just happy you didn’t feel as though i’d wasted however many non-refunable minutes of your life after you went to so much trouble to see the movie.
And don’t apologise (my letter as nothing more than jest); better still: keep better doing better things better than people!!!
-
-
-
-
Plainview, are you well read or do you keep a dictionary on hand?
I know all these words you use but without your reminder of their existence I forget that they do…exist.-
When I’m writing creatively I tend to use an online thesaurus, it’s kind of cheating, but it usually works. As such, I’m going to assume he does something similar.
-
i can forget everything, but i always remember words, styles of writing, grammar, syntax and the like; just because i like thinking about them and how they all work together. i could fail every class you ever put me in, but English was when people knew to come correct to me or step the fcuk down. So reading and writing always felt powerful to me – how i stood out, how i was somebody, not just a guy not good at nothing in particular. Words always made me feel good about myself no matter what; just something i was good at, something no one could take away from me.
The things you like best are the same things you remember most.
The fastest pool pony racer of all time and then some,
Plainview.

*rubs eyes*
looks again
*rubs eyes, has a little lie down*
Would more people come to the Sydney meet up if I said that i’d arranged a venue for us to have a private function room with a TV (I’ll supply the console) and a couple of pool tables….. in Sydney CBD….
I am SSOOOOO stoked I managed to pull this off because i only had one day to arrange it while I worked in the city.
Now I am doing this on the cheap (zero) because we have very little commitment from you all and I am assuming we will also have some no-shows… but i think we can make this work.
This place has no lunch kitchen staff so they have agreed to allow us to simply order/get pizzas and take them upstairs. There is also no bar up in this room so we will have to order drinks from ground floor and take them up 2 flights of stairs to level 2.. it sucks but this is essentially a free private room!!!
Also they have agreed for me to bring in a console to plug into the plasma so I was thinking about having Trials HD running in the background??? Tournement anyone???
There is also a juke box and 2 pool tables that i assume we will have access to on this floor!
Now this is Sir-Eats-alot’s thing so I will politely suggest this as the venue and we can chat about it. send me an e-mail to
claimsboy at hotmail dot com and I can tell you more…
I wont tell you where just yet (right next to Wynyard train station) until i am sure we want to go ahead with it. No problems if not but thought it was too good to pass up!
-
oh and that was for Sir-eats-alot to e-mail me… but you are all welcome to say hi…
-
Hi
-
-
I am jelly!
-
You’re the man.
That’s all.
Or, maybe – you’re all man.
Take your pick.
-
That sounds like a great idea!!
Meaning that people won’t awkwardly stand on the street in front of EBGames. 😛
And people who might not make it at 12pm can simply come to the venue : )FS you’re the best!
Inspired by Bunny’s Buttercup, and not wanting to start a new game just yet, I’ve returned to Demon’s Souls.
I remembered I’d started a game on the 2nd PS3 so I loaded up the game…no savefile. Then I remembered it had been on the US version which we’ve since given away because we now have the Australian version. So I now had to start all over again. Again.
Did the tutorial, cleaned out the first level and killed the Phalanx Boss before the boy woke up from his nap. I’m in my body. I hope Buttercup doesn’t invade, I won’t stand a chance….
-
I’m sure we’d love to read of this new warrior’s endeavors on here, just as we enjoy reading of Buttercup 🙂
-
I actually really disappointed that after the first week where there was an influx of writing, everyone else stopped. Doing this sort of thing is not necessarily hard and I’m more than willing to help out anyone who wants to give it a shot.
The most important thing is to know from the beginning that you’re going to writing this up and remember to take notes constantly.
Also, I’ll help out with editing for anyone that wants to make use of my services. Not just for Let’s Plays but for anything that people would feel like submitting around here. As long as it isn’t too long. If anyone is interested in doing some writing and wants me to help edit, just email me at adam AT trjn DOT net.
-
I know if I ever submitted anything for you to look over your response would be “GAAAHHH, why are there so many commas? AAAGGHHHHHH, this thing is a mess!” At least, that’s what my normal editor used to say, before he straight up refused to read my latest thing thanks to the number of commas.
And yeah, more people should be writing, I always find it to be very relaxing. Except for my 100-odd word rant against ignorant morons. That one was stressful.
-
Commas are people too!
At least they get more love than the poor semi-colon; that poor symbol hardly ever sees the light of day.
Although that might be because many people, myself included, never really bothered to learn how to use it properly.
-
I could try and explain them, but Wikipedia does a much better job. Their two most common uses are in lists, where they act like commas after a semicolon, and something else, where they’re like a connecting thing, ya know?
In all seriousness, I have a s strange obsession with commas. Now that I’ve mentioned it you’ll never stop seeing it (until you forget). But I write like a script-writer; that is, how I would talk, so what I write typically has way too many commas prior to my editing.
-
-
-
You don’t need to worry about Buttercup invading. She isn’t the sort. Mainly because she is really underleveled.
Good to see you’ve started playing again though, tis a damned awesome game. You’ll probably finish before me too, I’m taking my sweet time.
I gots a hankerin’ for some Golden Axe on Mega Drive…
-
hehe funnily enough, I played through golden axe on mame just last week! Been ages since I’d played it! was awesome!
-
YAAAAAAAAAAAY!
Just played through the first couple of sections of the game I plan to review on Friday.
I really wish I had something to record my gameplay, I think most of you would enjoy watching some of my failures.
I just found out something embarrassing, and I should have realised this earlier, but still.
The best selling game for the PS3, of all time (according to wikipedia), Is CoD:BlOps. Congratulations gamers, give yourselves a pat on the back. So far as I can tell, the next two games in the list are Gran Turismo 5, and Gran Turismo 5 prologue. Wow. There are so many quality games on the PS3, many of them system exclusives, and yet, Codblops.
Anyway, here’s my sourceykins: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-03-03-black-ops-the-best-selling-ps3-game-ever
But really, Codblops? *sigh*
-
Imagine my surprise a few weeks ago when an old guy who isn’t a video games journalist laments the same thing:
http://www.smh.com.au/opinion/society-and-culture/blogs/the-tribal-mind/who-needs-a-story-when-you-can-kill-people-20110324-1c7di.html
Too bad it’s only a brief column wedged in somewhere in the main liftout of the Saturday SMH, but hey, it lifts my spirits to see that even people who aren’t games enthusiasts can have hope in the medium, even if things like BlOps selling well doesn’t help the cause.-
Why does it have to be Blops?
I’m tempted to buy this game pre-owned, just so I can not support the developer (and Activision, they’re like the new EA)(but I won’t, the only fps I play is Halo).
I’d compliment the article, but I won’t read it until the morning, when you will be able to read this… What was the point of this comment again?
-
Without light, what would dark be?
Blops makes all those other games seem that much better.
-
-
Um, Cracks/anyone else, what was the site you used to get LIVE codes? Roughly how long do they take/cost as well?
-
http://gamecard.com.au/ works a treat prices are all on their front page!
I can also vouch for http://www.maximuscards.com/ if you want to buy US points and take advantage of the amazing exchange rate at the moment.
-
Cheers!
-
-
Yup, GameCard is the place. They usually take a few hours to email through at the most, though a friend and I have separately had some codes take several days.
DEAR ALLURE (YES IM YELLING, I LIKE IT) I THINK THAT UNDER THE CIRCUMSTANCES, THAT YOU SHOULD BE GIVING ALL YOUR STAFF (EXCEPT SEAMUS, UNTIL HE HAS A HAIR CUT) A PAY RISE TO REFLECT THEIR AWESOMNESS. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL PUT STARVING JOURNO’S LIKE MARK OUT ON THE STREETS… DO YOU WANT THAT??? SO, GIVE BIG MONIES TO THEMS, OR ELSE THE UNICORN GETS IT.
-
I salute this movement.
-
You would, you award winning journalist you. *shakes fist*
-
WHAT THE HELL DID I DO WRONG?!?!?
-
lol, Seamus’ hair. Hehe.

*wipes tear*
This.
-
Personally, as a fellow man with ridiculous hair, I support Shamus’ ‘do. You sensible haired people ad better watch out, criticise us too much and we’ll rebel. We will chase you down, unless you move too quickly, and my hair somehow manages to poke me in the eye past my glasses.
-
Gah, Seamus* christ, it uses the same spelling conventions as my own name, and I still fail. I think I was even sober when I posted that. Seamus, I am sorry, I do actually know how to spell your name, I’m just an idiot. Seriously, a huge idiot.
-
At least we know you pronounce it properz!

Just letting you know Qumulys is pure evil!
I was on the minecraft server, out in the wilderness. Surviving on 2 hearts.
headed back to civilization with some pork to cook to get my health back. Get inside the fence around Qumulys’ Bed Crab Hotel. Breath a sigh of relive to know I’m safe. walk up to the front door, Creeper jumps off the roof, lands on my head hissing with glee as it blows me into oblivion.
I’m convinced he planned it.
-
Speaking of evil, this one time, when a friend was AFK, I surrounded him with Obsidian.
-
Seeeee, Bish is the evil one! That creeper was my pet, I befriended him like Spideykins (who ate my wolf) and had a whole play-date planned with him in the morning. What do you do?? Blow him away. Now when I play ringaringarosie in the morning I’ll look like solitary spinning top.

Scroll down to Plague Interpretation and you’ll see how fitting it is!
-
That’s it, Qumulys is quarantined!
-
Hmmm, now you mention it, I have some black oozy pussy goo leaking from under my arm pits. They are fun to squeeze though, I’ve been shooting my load of goo onto passing children in the streets, going “pew pew pew, sticky goo for you”.
~Sent from iPhone from local police station lockup.

How’d you sneak that iPhone in here? You were strip searched!
Just for that you’ll get a good seeing too with my hard batton!

😉 Constable! Be gentle! 😮 No, not that gentle :-O thats better!

Oh hey, also, Simon Pegg vs Nick Frost on Good News Week in a sci-fi nerd-off. That was pretty good.
Just bringing it up for no particular reason. Not like the site has any affiliation with either one of them.
-
Had I known that they were on GNW, I would have watched it for once.
-
I used to watch it, but then SC2 came out… Now it’s a habit to sit in my room, where my parents can’t be disappointed at me…
-
-
Yeh Serrels was on there too
-
…damn
I knew I was missing something last night :/
-
It was one of the better episodes. What was up with that woman on Mikeys team though? She hardly said anything and when she did she sounded like she was on some sort of drug.
-
Does channel 10 have an iview like abc does? (too lazy to check)
-
Wow, that’s really lazy.
http://ten.com.au/good-news-week.htm (found by searching for “GNW” – didn’t even have to expend the energy to type the full name of the show!)
You’re so lazy you took lessons on a player piano. You’re like a rug on valium, I’m talkin’ lazy.
-
Yay for lazy! It always pays off! Cheers Batguy 😀 Actually, I’m playing piano now! Well, a crummy digital version of a piano anyway, but noodling about with some music stuffs making alternative jazz….
Hang on, looking at that GNW link, I think someone is trying to stop all our TAY powers!!!

Okay, so I just watched this bit on Portal 2 by Qore, and I burst out laughing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ocHZdBIWxtQ
Why? Anyone who watched the IT crowd (S03E02) will know…
I think this is conclusive proof that Valve truly are magicians.
Man, I think I’ll re-watch the IT Crowd this weekend.
-
I would too… but I’m going to a Sea Park.
I whipped this up last night in an hour using my excess FRAPS footage. Starts off slow but then as time went on, I got a bit more involved in the editing.

If this doesn’t make you want to play Assassin’s Creed again, you obviously don’t love broken bones on guards.
-
Man, Brotherhood is a ball of fun. And you know what I *just* discovered? If you pick up a heavy/double handed axe/broadsword, you can throw it at guards, and they go flying away. And then you can pick it back up and the entire process repeats.
-
Or you can chain lance spear kills together. Countering = lost lance, but dodging = continuous spear-death.
Or that if you hold the attack button during a chain kill, you use a secondary weapon to kill 2 guards at once. Knife + Throwing Dagger = awesome.
-
-
I love the AC series so far!!
I once killed a guard with a fishing rod I picked up. 😛 *poke poke poke poke poke dies*
Had a few days off sick last week, the person who normally handles IT is on leave because she’s getting married and I had Monday off as my normal RDO.
Long story short, things are a little hectic this morning. I’m counting this post as a slight breather before I dive back in to things. I’m not used to having much of a workload to deal with dammit.
Did anyone hear about the APP HMV in the UK released that allows you to check how much you get for trading in a game there? The ERSB have had an APP available for a while now that lets you find out classification information.
I was wondering if anyone knew of any other cool game related APPs that are available.
So it’s my 19th birthday today. Yay me.
-
Merry Birthday! May it be filled with Portal! And cake! And procrastination (I assume you’re a uni student)!
-
Procrastination is a Life. Skill. (regardless of one’s tertiary status).
BTW, happy birthday!
PS: I typed this on my work computer instead of preparing for a meeting.
-
Yeah, I would consider a stoner bum are far better procrastinator as they don’t even attempt study.

Yappi Burtdaye!
Don’t forget to drink til you puke! And then drink some more!

Yay!! Happy Birthday Dire Wolf!! Party Hard!

Happy Birthday!

Yay you! 😛
Here’s hoping you get or have gotten many game related gifts, and that you enjoy them all 😀 -
Have great day! Enjoy your youth!

Happy Birthdaaaaay! Wooo!! I remember when I had one of those, not so long ago. Good times.
-
Wow, so did I. I remember it like it was just last week…
-
I just giggled a little…

Happy Birthday!
Now, run along to the train station and play – go!

Happy 133rd birthday… That’s 19 in wolf years!

Congratulations… what’d you get me?

happy happy birthday! 😀
Does anyone know where I can still get some floppy disks?
Ok, ok, if you’re done laughing, I’m quite desperate for some as I have machines at work that can only read floppy disks. An upgrade so they can at least access files over the network is planned, but isn’t going to happen anytime soon knowing management.
I know they don’t get made anymore but I was hoping someone might know a retailer that still has some. I got what Officeworks had but it wasn’t much, I’ve searched most every other Computer retailer, at the moment I think I’m going to have to go on Ebay.
-
I thinnk i still have about 3 boxes (20 a box) stored somewhere for safe-keeping. I could take a look later on if you’d like?
-
I can probably get some from my suppliers.. how many you need?
-
Really you can still get them? Our computer supplier can’t get it through any of his suppliers they have all stopped selling them. If so I would be very interested.
-
Thanks everyone for the replies, if welbot has a supplier I’ll probably go through him though, or through his supplier if possible. I’ll have to see how much they cost first, but I’m thinking at least 2 dozen. If they’re cheap enough I’d get quite a few as I think it will only get harder as time goes on.
-
-
Last time I was in my local Big W (probably over 6 months ago…) they definitely had some (I remember being surprised to see ’em) – if it’s convenient, might be worth checking with them.
-
There are boxes and boxes of them in the bakc fo the cupboard here at work. I don’t suppose you are in Adelaide?
-
We talking 5-1/4″ real floppies, or 3.5″ huby’s*?
* http://folk.uio.no/alied/TMoL.html (loops found that one)
-
Just the 3.5″ ones
-
720k or 1.44mb ?
-
I didn’t know there was 720k, probably the 1.44mb, I don’t think the files we use are that large, but I’d rather stick with what I know.
-
-
-
-
Nice one.
Will undoubtedly be better than the last series.-
That MTV one? Bendis got involved and it was still a big peice of shit!
Peter Parker is not a gheye nightclubber!
-
Will they use the comics as the storylines, or just sort of loosely follow them? I really liked Ultimate Spiderman but lost interest a bit when the art changed.
-
I gave up after Bagley left. Love Immonen’s art but not for USM.
I beleiev that they will lossely follow the comics. Not sure, can’t follow the links at work!

Alright, what the hell is the go with NBA Jam’s online mode? Has anyone else tried this? You cant choose who you play so it connects you to people randomly, who are 99% of the time on the other side of the world, thus leaving you with a lag of approximately 2 friggin seconds. Yay. This is so lame, why make a new game when youve shelved out stuff like this?! FIX IT DAMMIT! Sigh… I know I’m gonna end up buying the arcade version since it will have (hopefully) fixed things like this… damn you EA! Damn you to HELL!
Also, what the F is this Ghost in the Shell 2.0 blu ray crap?! I didnt get further than the opening scene, in which it was brutally and unforgivable butchering it with crap poo crappy 3D nonsense crap! GAH! WHY?! I bought it thinking well, at least if the additions suck it has the original version too. Oh genius move. The original is in the crappest quality known to man, ripped straight from a VHS copy by the looks of it. Siiiiiigh…
-
Coming down off your birthday high, eh?
There, there Sughly – it’s alright, we’re here for you. *hug*
-
Please explain this GitS 2.0.
It’s not Innocence I take it, which ahad plenty of CG.
Actually there was a bit of Cg in the first, the big robotspider(Tachikoma?) was Cg.Anyway more info!
-
“The Special Edition release was scheduled to include the original 1995 release alongside the Version 2.0 on a Double Layer Blu-ray, and complimented with the inclusion of a soundtrack CD and booklet with commentary detailing the Version 2.0 production. This has since changed and Manga Entertainment will actually be releasing the film on Blu-ray.”
From Wikipedia
Go get a refund and buy the original when it comes!
-
I seeeeee…. well, I actually bought it ages ago on clearance and only just got around to having a look see at it last ngiht, so I won’t bother refunding. But this is good news, getting the original on blu ray. I can’t see this info anywhere myself tho!
God damn, 2D looks sexah on blu ray. Ponyo blu ray is pretty much the best thing ever to be viewed on a TV.
-
I’ve never watched a Blu Ray anything.
-
This is a screenie from it. Such beauty, crispness, clarity, swoooooooon! Imagine this in motion: http://media.cinemasquid.com/blu-ray/titles/ponyo/11097/screenshot-lrg-05.png
More screens here: http://www.cinemasquid.com/blu-ray/movies/screenshots/ponyo?movieid=11097
Just amazing.
-
My comp is goin apeshit now…
Thats FROM the blu ray? Looks like crayon, it’s madgood!
I watched that film in Chinese and didn’t know WHAT was goin on!
-
Just had a quick look through the rest, the noodles made me hungry!
-
Yep. Seriously, Ponyo on blu ray is one of the most visually amazing things to behold. One of my favouritest favourite things I own!
-
Constantly rewatching that movie. Although haven’t watched it since the Tsunami/Earthquake… 🙁
-
My copy arrived from zavvi yesterday. Looking forward to watching it on the weekend!
-
-
-
So, Sony and Mr. Hotz settled out of court (http://au.gamespot.com/news/6307711.html)
I think he’s gotten off remarkably lightly and there’s no way Sony could claim this as a victory – too little, too late.
Thoughts?
-
I wish it was Easter Holidays already…
-
As a connoisseur of fine comics, tell me what you think of this – http://au.comics.ign.com/articles/116/1160605p1.html
-
I’m keen, Oeming does good stuff!
-
They doin a bookbook? Like in reallife?
You know what I mean?
A hardcopy? -
I don’t think so – it’s more of an advertisement to get people interested in the lead-up to Portal 2 🙁
-
-
-
I’m curious to know if a settlement like this has any effect on future court cases along the same against other hackers, or is it legally a non-event?
-
Yeah, to the best of my knowledge it’s a non-event – if the court makes a decision, then that creates precedent… but this doesn’t really change anything.
One of my friends warned me to steer clear of this version. By the sound of things I should be grateful.
GITS stand alone complex is his fave series and when he got me to watch it I decided to buy it straight away but I’m waiting for a decent blu ray copy.
Did they change the story as well or just butcured the animations?
-
Opps, that was suposed to be a reply to sughly.
-
I love the movies have never found time for the series…my freinds curse at me for this!
-
It’s worth making the time. At least for the first season. Second one is good to but the first one is the best in my opinion.
-
I tried, i EVEN PLOPPED A FEW ON THE IpOD AND TRIED TO WATCH EM THAT WAY(GGOgogadgetcapslock)
And the subtitles were a bit too small(i refuse to watch dubbed).
This was before the boy was born…now it’s even harder. -
Argh, my eyes hurt just thinking of trying to read subtitles on an ipod.
-
It was more a speed issue than anything. They were big enough but I couldn’t read them qucik enough at the size.
-
-
Just a bit of a bump for NotoriousR and the Albert Park 24hr run/walk for cancer he’s doing. He need’s more monies so find it in your hearts if you can! (Mark, would Allure possibly be able to make a contribution towards this great cause?)
Thanks everyone 😀
-
I <3 Q-bo 🙂
My Jeremy Clarkson style game making has been going well, I’ve managed to make this so far http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12860924/little%20lamboman%20test%201.exe . Currently there is no sound, there is no background image of a vast city, there are coins to collect but there is no score, and there is no AI or health. But at least it looks good…
Oh, and the game will start in fullscreen mode, you just press Esc to quit.
-
Is that a virus? Will it delete my computer if I run it?
-
Nope not a virus, well, I’m still here after playing it. I collected all the coins lambo, it was pretty cool, timing the jumps was tricky, but a good 2 minute challenge! I would animate little lambomans hands/arms a bit when he’s jumping, like swing them up a bit? But I must say, very impressive good sir! 😀
-
Nope, most defiantly not a virus… 😀
I probably won’t animate his arms, because I’m going to give him weapons. Also, a little bit about the setting for this game: It’s going to be set at the beginning of the robot apocalypse, so everything is still bright and cheery. Bad guys are going to consist of radios, fridges and other household appliances.-
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
-
See, look at Q. Sounds suspiciously like he’s infected with your crazy virus to me.
Anyway, I have this file now but it is broken. I dragged it into the application folder on my apple macintosh but then nothing happened. Please fix.
-
I was doing my favourite household appliance impression. The Tickler ™
-
Umm yeah, sorry about that, I should have said that it’s only for Windows…for now. I can only make windows games with Game Maker for Windows, but I’m going to make a hackintosh sometime in the near future, probably when Mac OS X Lion comes out. Then I’ll make a Mac version of my (hopefully completed) game.
And I hope Q didn’t get the plague from my file… 😛

Just want to post a giant Thank You to Chuloopa for his passionate posts on Warhammer 40,000 books.
After reading his many comments on the subject I thought I would give them a try, I now own four of these giant books and I am loving every sentence of them.
Thank you Chuloopa, your words of wisdom have made my lunch breaks far more enjoyable and my general work day more tolerable.
-
Dawwwwww
Cheers dude 🙂If you don’t mind your fantasy stuff as well, pick up the “Vampire Wars” warhammer novel.
It collects all three books from the Von Carstein Trilogy and is brilliant. I’m reading it now.It brings vampires back into the whole “devious, mad, and downright brutal” way of things that things like Twilight and True Blood ruined completely.
-
Sweet, I’ll give it a try.
Damn sparkly and whining southern freaks nearly ruined the whole genre.
-
-
Yeah I’m reaching Space Wolf currently, I bloody love it! First & Only was awesome as well. They got me into reading on the train rather than do challenges on Kingdom Hearts 358/2 days on the DS lite. Can’t wait to see more one day, I gotta search for them, though I heard they’re hard to find in Australian book stores.
-
I got mine from Dymocks at Parramatta, very large selection there, so you might try them.
Just finished reading Hero of the Imperium and Defender of the Imperium which focuses on Ciaphas Cain. Brilliant and fun reading, describes nearly all of his heroic actions as mearly trying to save his own skin and the little editorial notes are hilarious.
I am just about to start the Gaunt’s Ghost collection.-
Gaunts Ghosts is AWESOME reading.. some of the best
bookdepository.com and ebay are also really good places to get the books from cheap 🙂
Some of the dirt cheap books warehouses have them too, which is good if you have one in the area.
-
-
Just checked yer Site NIGHtFLARER, you is quite good.
-
hehe, Thank kyew!
-
Are you and your mate gonna make one of those sweet JRPGs with the 2D background and the 3D characters?
Like all my fave FFs and REs and PEs???-
Like FF7? Probably not, more like FF13 but with better gameplay and less halls 😛
-
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I want oldskool! I wanna walk around on a picture!
I’ll still check it…
-
-
-
I don’t know why, but I feel like posting this for some reason…
-
You post that so much I recognise the link with “Opph0” at the end, STOP TRYING TO BEC’ROLL THE KOMMUNITY! 😛
-
I miss Rick…
-
-
Is it bad that I kind of like this song?
-
My mother has the record on vinyl…
-
Crackerlackle-boy, your mother is the greatest person ever, of all time.
-
-
Used to be my ringtone.
It only takes one bar to get stuck in someones head.
Also, I don’t know of any other ginger popstars who cannot dance… and we gingers need all the role models we can get.
-
-
Not that much…
-
The far superior version!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UoLnGigtFe8…I can’t believe someone actually asked Yasunori Mitsuda about it.
-
Sorry I cant toob at work…what’s this about Mitsuda??
-
It’s a mashup of Never Gonna Give You Up and Robo’s Theme from Chrono Trigger that actually works out pretty well. Disturbingly so.
-
-
HAHAHA that’s awesome!
I honour his work by having an 8-bit version of the song on my phone, the rickroll will forever live on
…seriosuly hate you so much right now..
I’m thinking you actually really like that song
-
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Dem’s fartin wurdz!-
lol, I read that as farting words, not fighting words 😛
I saw Mark reference that song on Twitter and decided it was about time I posted this video again 😛
And no, I don’t like that song…and from now on “lamboman007, Friday vid poster” is no more…-
Thats cos thats what it says!
-
-
-
lol! “You ain’t gonna be laughing when I give you a high five”
-
-
HOLD THE PHONE!?!?!
“Dear Club Nintendo member, to celebrate the second anniversary of Club Nintendo, Nintendo has introduced a new item to the Club Nintendo Stars Catalogue!”
Very, very, VERY cool: http://club.nintendo.com.au/NOE/en_AU/club_nintendo/starsCatalogueCheckout_p2.do?starsItemId=EE46428F2C104344B11C7736F5B6AF2D
Costs 3000 stars. I spent them all on my (admittedly very cool) t-shirt not that long ago and now only have 1050 🙁
Anybody want to buy me 10 new Nintendo games so I can redeem this?
-
I will point out that I saw it first, so it’s only fair that I get to take everybody else’s points to claim this.
-
Looks like I need to start redeeming all my pointsesez.
You know you can buy them at Gametraders, right?
-
Sell what, the snes controllers for Wii?
-
Yeah, GTs sell Wii SNES trollers. I sawz one at Germside Chopping Centre!
-
-
-
-
Dude… nice 🙂
-
I was just coming here to post that haha! Hot damn thats awesome! I havent spent any of mine yet so I got around 2000, but still not enough :'(
Damn you ozgameshop and your UK points that dont work here!
-
Most of my collection is older than the points system…BULLSHIT! I have been unjustly rewarded for being an early adopter!
We did buy the Wii semi-recently, how many points for that?
-
Bout 500. How much were the controllers in GT do u remember?
-
500…for a wii…WHAAAAAAAAT?? Most things cost a thousand+…BUULLLLSHEEEEEEEET!
Sorry, can’t remember the price. I suggest checking their website.
I always thought Game and Gametraders were versions of the same franchise, then at SuperNova I noticed they had seperate booths…whats the deal? -
I think Gametraders is kind of like IGA, in that it’s lots of seperately owned things run by the one big thing. If someone smart can give me the correct term, that’d be great. I could be wrong though.
-
Yeah, it’s a licensee thing.
-
So they are paert of the same franchise?
Like McDonalds and mc Cafe??? -
Game and Gametraders? No. Sorry, I probably should have clarified, they’re completely separate companies. Game is British, I believe, while Gametraders is Australian, and unlike how EB is a division of Gamestop, they’re completely unrelated. They just happen to both have similar coloured logo things.
-
Cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeers
-
-
-
Welbot
Old chap!
I just sent you a message via collabratory which I don’t know if you’ll get or not…

Oooh… Lego are doing a ninja themed product line.
“Ninjago”
-
*nods*
have been for a few months
from what i’ve seen is horrendously over-priced… even compared to other lego-
I’ve been out of the loop.
It combines two things I love; Lego and ninjas, so I may have to buy some. Probably just one of the little ones. There’s a black ninja with a scythe that looks pretty badass.
Wouldn’t mind a Transformer too.
I’m in constant battle with my 8 year old self…-
I still have the Blue Grimlock that came out in the mid-90s. Grimlock’s the best!
-
JELLY!
I only have one of my 80/90’s figures, and he’s missing his missiles 🙁
I have a whole bunch from the Energon period, including Optimus, but your Grimlock trumps my collection. -
My pride and joy are my original Megatron and Soundwave (still with original Laserbeak.
They’re scuffed to all hell but still hold a proud position on my bookshelf.
My current goal in life is to corrupt my nephews by constantly buying them Transformers for the various birthdays and christmases. -
NOICE!
-
-
-
Yeah Ive been checkin it, cant wait till the boys old enough.
Nothing will ever beat pirate Lego!
-
Sit him outside. I hear the sun ages people.
-
My sister got her boyfriend Lego for his 21st, it was the greatest gift ever.
With this in mind, screw waiting ’til your munchkin is big enough, get it now, just keep it out of reach!
-
Nahhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I’d rather buy comics.
-
-
Pirates of the Caribbean Lego FTW! 😀
This one’s for lamboman
-
That left me feeling sad and empty. What an evil, evil man!
-
Jokes on him. He has to listen to Zeke.
-
With that in mind: http://www.uproxx.com/feature/2011/03/100-of-the-most-ridiculous-yahoo-answers-posts/#page/72
Moderately NSFW
-
That’s what my uncle used to say about shit he dint like, except it was:
Gently caress my testicles with an industrial strength cheesegrater. -
Dammit, now I’m stuck reading all of them. This one was hi-lar-ri-us! http://www.uproxx.com/feature/2011/03/100-of-the-most-ridiculous-yahoo-answers-posts/#page/32

My favourite is probably http://www.uproxx.com/feature/2011/03/100-of-the-most-ridiculous-yahoo-answers-posts/#page/90
Now, I know I do the same thing sometimes, and that’s probably why I found it so funny.

That not only hurt the intelligence sector of my brain, but also managed to stab the grammar part of my brain y not u no ?!!?

I have a surprise for you guys and gals…

look what i’m working on for you all to enjoy..
I may not have the net at home.. but i still have lunch breaks.. which i have gone well and truly over getting this to this stage….
-
Can I get a link to your site?
That shirt Serrels promised me miraculously never appeared (pssssssst, I think he forgot).-
I FORGOTTED.
-
No wucken furreys.
Take a break, you deserve it!
-
-
-
They are freakin AWESOME!!!
I don’t suppose you do “The Lord is my Shepard” for the husky man type do you?-
Wait never mind, just noticed I can change the shirt size myself… and it only took several visits to the website to find out… I’m sure its my attention to detail that is my greatest quality.
-
Well, you are a barbarian.
-
-
-
When I remember and I get near the credit card(where’s my debit card gone?) I’ll order that Kotaku United one.
Then so you make some ineros one day I will order another full priced shirt…when you do a design I want. Not baggin on the designs just being my usual picky self!
-
With the game I’m planning to review on Friday, I’m about 1/3 of the way through the campaign. Admittedly, I could have finished it all in one go yesterday if I felt like it, but I didn’t so hush now.
So far, what I’ve played is pretty much exactly what I remembered it being like. I probably could get away with not finishing this game and writing a review based on the little I’ve replayed so far, seeing as I have completed it before. Except I won’t do that because my opinion of the rest of the campaign is somewhat different to my opinion of the beginning of the game.
I really don’t know why I’m keeping what I’m playing a secret. Luckily I don’t have anyone here on my XBL friends list or the secret would be revealed pretty quickly.
-
“Lucky” that you don’t have any of us on your friends list? 🙁
My handle is pretty easy to work out if you’re feeling friendly at the completion of this project!
-
Mine too. I’m so sad and alone with my *insert number of friends here*

Minor Differences: Part 3
http://theoatmeal.com/comics/minor_differences3
So true.
And this can be only the work of a caffeinated person.
-
That was hilarious. Especially the pic of the guy eating Doritos.
-
It’s “NACHEESE TORTILLA EXPLOSION!”.
-
ahahha that is total gold! Kinda reminds me of Family Guy for some reason. Speaking of which, did anyone see last nights un-aired ep? Damn that was hilarious!
-
-
-
Oatmeal… ah, the moments.
Like this:

Amazing!

Yeah, I’ve wiled away many of my hours on this hard-to-navigate-yet-strangely-compelling-and-utterly-hilarious website.
http://theoatmeal.com/comics/design_hell
http://theoatmeal.com/comics/customer_serviceIf I remember more, I’ll mention them. There was one about zombies that I also liked, but I can’t find it now….

Oh god, that design one is too true. I’ve thought about leaving advertising for a rich career in fruit picking more than once

😀 Oh, the hilarity!

The one with the hair dryer is my favourite.
-
I literally lose it every time I see that pic. Because it’s so horribly true.
-
I have not experienced any form of locker room since the end of year ten, and I hope to continue this for as long as possible, as such I’ll remain blissfully ignorant!

-
you’re welcome! 😀

-
And Trjn, this one will (not) help your writing:
http://theoatmeal.com/comics/semicolon-
I’m curious, given the vaguely wide range of ages on the site, who here can hear this?
http://theoatmeal.com/quizzes/sound/I can, dear lord I can (my sound was right up, I think my ears are bleeding).
-
I heard it, with the volume relatively low.
I’m over 25.-
You know what I hate? (the answer is many things, but I’m after a specific answer that I will inform you of now) Cathode Ray Tube displays. Some of them are ok (they just kind of twinge a bit), but there were a few at my school which made my ears bleed. Thank god I never leave my house anymore.
Also, good work, you’re an awesome old person! (anyone over 20 is old, it’s just how life works)
-
I still use a CRT TV, so I’m used to that noise.
Yep, I’m well aware that I am old. Ancient even!
-
-
-
-
a pretty good explanation!
Except for the pause indicator which is just confusing and outdated.
Comma (count 1 beat), semicolon (count 2 beats), colon (count 3 beats), full stop (count 4 beats).
Good writing must have rhythm and tempo but this just an absurd and confusing grammatical measure, bad practice and misleading.
A lot of writing technicians think semicolons are dangerous or ugly because they can be used to build long, streaming, unfinished sentences that go on and on and on an on without direction or purpose (you know, the kind of shit i like to write).
Semicolons are super, they let you put a nice surprise at the end of your sentence, you can keep the door open, you can chuck some more information in for no extra cost, add a kicker, a twist in the tail, an abstract hidden treasure for the reader to twist and turn what they think they already know from the sentence.
The colon has less scope and doesn’t allow wild abstraction, or taking the sentence on rapid tangents; the colon is more scientific, more prescribed and demands the solid foundation of a complete sentence and builds a space of less freedom to throw curve balls and structureless “stream of conscious” sentence building: unconfined, without restraint.
I wish I had this poster when i was at school: it’s a good point of reference.
The semicolon: a magical portal between ideas; look at this madness, then move between thoughts with freedom.
: )
Oh, if anyone is still playing/interested in Starcraft 2, there’s apparent a remake of Starcraft 1 campaign into SC2, and mission 3 is a bit different from the regular RTS type:
-
I think he only has the Terran and Zerg campaigns done, so I’ll be waiting for the Brotoss campaign so I can do it all in one go.
And then, eventually they’ll do BW, and I can rejoice in the imbalanced nature of zerg super units. So very imbalanced *dreams*
One of my bosses called me his “secretary bitch” today…
I am neither his secretary, nor his bitch (Well, I guess I’m his bitch. He is my boss)
-
I used to describe my old job by saying I was the office bitch. Which was pretty much what I was…
-
Tell HR that he hit on you…
wEEEEEE! Thanks to the first home ownser grant, my credit card is now paid off and I own my fridge! w00t! I r teh debt free again! Now I finally have the money to register my business name too! YIPPEE!!!
-
Yippee indeed!! That must be such a relief!
-
Yeah it is a bit.. been kinda stuggling with things since the ex boss left me int he lurch around xmas time. Now I can finally get my business stuff setup properly and seperated from personal accounts! w00t!
-
-
YAY that’s good news indeed!
-
Congrats d00d
That’s some pretty awesome news.I’ve still got 3 years before mine is paid off… and the bad credit rating expires… *sigh*
Man i was stupid when i was younger -
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOP!
Contgratus
I’ve been gone all day today…did you guys miss me? 😛
I missed out on some stuff but thankfully not two pages of stuffs. Why not two pages of stuffs? You’re slacking off, kids.
Also, I keep reading Hugo the Hungarian Barbarian as
Hugo the HUNG Barbarian. *insert google-eyed shocked look here*.
-
Also, what is it with Gorzilla and wood and hard batons today?
I leave for one day and everyone hangs out in the gutter….-
Well, you know, I get lonely if people don’t join me. The more the merrier (Please note, if you join me in the gutter I will steal your wallet)!
-
See how wild and misguided we become when you’re not around to “tsk” us?
The only solution is to NEVER LEAVE EVER AGAIN
-
-
I did notice you were gone – I was gonna say “hey… where’s Strange?!” but thought it might be weird, as if I was stalking you or something.
So, what was more important than Kotaku? Huh?! 😛
-
We’re not stalking her now?
Man it would be nice if someone forwarded me the emails on these things… god damn it…
*starts packing up camp*-
Someone should have emailed me too, if I’d known you were there I could have brought you some food and drink.
-
Awww man… and i was rummaging through your bin to eat!??!
Guys! Seriously! Some communication here would have been bloody nice!
-
-
-
What was more important than Kotaku? Shopping, obviously. I am a girl, you know. 😉
-
-
Well, I’m not one to toot my own horn but…
No.. its definetly Hungarian *sigh* -
Most of my names this week are referring to minecraft in which in am currently constructing a long wooden road.
When dealing with large amounts of wood innuendo is hard to avoid.
See this comment for examples.
Q-bo: Did the minecraft server just go down?
Wow. Mad packed week. I really hate assignments now… 🙁
I applied for that job at Allure, and was asked to come in for a “chat”. So I guess I’m getting an unofficial tour of the Allure offices! 😀
One last thing addressed to anyone coming on Saturday:
What time/where are we meeting? Where is lunch going to be eaten? etc… etc… etc…
-
Asked in for a chat?
EXCITING TIEMS.
Seriously, good luck!
-
Thanks man! I’m so excited! I really hope this turns out! 😀
-
-
Wow, awesome news Tad! Allow me to be the first to say… “Make sure you take lots of candid pictures when you’re there, I don’t think we’ve seen the true Mark (or the true Kotaku office) yet…”
*pictures Simpson-esque-Mad-Magazine-type office*
-
MISSION ACCEPTED.
At least 3 pictures of a pant-less Mark Serrels will appear on the internet very shortly.
-
-
Good luck with the job, it’d be excellent to see someone from here end up working for Allure.
Then we’d know who to blame when the site has technical fits like we’ve been seeing over the last few days. Don’t worry, we’d only give you moral support, there’s no way anyone here would ever try to heckle you or throw things at you while you try to fix things >.>

I wish I lived in a cool city like Sydney… Oh, and I wish I had any useful skills…
But I’m with Shane, take lots and lots of photos.

Sydney is certainly WHERE IT’S AT. You’re missing out! xD
I kid!
-

so… damn… jealous…. grrr

If I get in, I’ll hostage Serrels into giving you a column, sound good? 😀
-
“In the loop with Loops”
I like it!

-
-
You realise that when you do get the job (when, not if) your superiors can just check out TAY to see when you’re slacking off.
-
When? I wish! Hopefully, but I don’t know yet!
And yes, but Mark wouldn’t dob me in… would you Mark?…
…Mark?…
…You wouldn’t… right?
…right?
…anyone?
But seriously, When I was working at Optus, I only checked kotaku briefly between deliverables, at lunch, in the morning and just after I was about to leave. I know that sounds like a lot, but it probably only totalled about 20-30 minutes a day… and Optus was dead-boring to work for.
I don’t want to sound like a twat, but I think I’ve got a pretty good work ethic.
-
-
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP!
Does this mean more CCG??-
I’ll take the deafening silence as a no then shall I?
-
-
You won’t believe it, but when the post went up yesterday I was gonna say “Man! I hope someone from Kotaku (like TadMod!) gets this job – that’d be awesome!”
…but comments were off :/
So, as you could imagine, I think this is awesome and wish you the best of luck 😀
Well… this is awesome… Mafia 1 and 2 75% off for today only… 😀
-
Well, I got the original Mafia… hopefully it works… *crosses fingers and toes*
Rightio, finished writing tomorrow’s Buttercup post. Now to edit and play the game I’m reviewing for an hour or so.
I’ve noticed that when I’m writing certain material, specific music helps things go smoothly. When I was working on my NaNoWriMo novel, listening to Queen made the writing process much easier. When writing Buttercup, it seems that Tool is the aural stimulation I require.
Somehow I feel like I’ve stumbled across something that will allow me to unlock the mysteries of the universe. Hopefully it doesn’t mean that in order to write the greatest literature the world has ever seen, I’ll have to listen to something like Taio Cruz.
-
I always preferred instrumental stuff, but anything I’d heard a kajillion times would be fine cos I wouldn’t pay attention to the lyrics anymore.
-
I never really pay attention to lyrics anyhow. Most of the time, the lyrics are so inane or just plain weird that it saves a lot of headache to ignore the meaning and enjoy the sound.
-
I used to sit and read the lyrics from the slip(if available) all the time.
These days I never do, too busy, but I still can’t not listen.
I find it very important that the lyrics aren’t about f*cking and partying. I’d like a lot more hip hop if they’d change their ways…
-
-
-
What music are you listening to for your surprise review?
Also, I have a tattoo of the Ribcage from Undertow. This must be why I like Buttercup so much….-
The game’s soundtrack.
-
Oh, wow.
DA2 is a doozy. Flawed, but a doozy.
Cliffhangers suck.
-
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww…
Now the cliffhanger won’t be a cliffhanger cos I’ll be spectin’ it.
-
What he means by “cliffhanger” is “a tightly constructed ending which wraps up all the loose ends, with no room to interpret, that’s how clear everything is”.
No need to thank me!-
Er, yes.
Exactly.
-
Thanks guys.
Is alright , I read comics, I get a cliffhanger every 22 pages.
-
-
-
Magicka is 50% off on Steam now!
That means you get the Vietnam pack included when you buy the game now : )
http://store.steampowered.com/sub/7816/
I would get it if my computer supported proper PC gaming…
-
I’ve been watching some Magika being played by the yogscast and TB yesterday and thought it looked really interesting. Might purchase 🙂
-
Magicka is extremely fun (especially in multiplayer). It’s buggy as hell, but when it works it’s extremely fun.
Don’t cross the streams!
Nooooo : ( I was awake watching the Starcraft 2 Dreamhack Invitational Tournament grand final (eSports > real sports, of course!) and the player I was rooting for, whitera, lost the championship because in the final match, his opponent did a proxy right in his base and whitera JUST missed the proxy with his scouting probe and scouted the wrong direction and by the way his probe got to the opponent’s base he basically lost the game. D: I was hoping for a macro game but some cheese (cheesy tactic) just made the conclusion. That was 15k prize money gone. 2nd place got no cash at all.
If anyone of you guys watch real sports (yes I know you do) hopefully you’ll understand my sadness. Shall go back to sleep and I’m going to need some coffee when I wake up!
-
and by the TIME his probe*
not by the way.I love watching these pro SC2 tournaments.
Only if players I like could win them!
At least I can still see some other interesting matches on youtube.(Probably nobody will find this interesting at all since I don’t think any TAY regular is into SC2 that much :\)
-
Ahem. That’s where you’re wrong!
I quite enjoy Whitera, I think he’s a very good player, quite dynamic. Fruitdealer too, of course, and there’s a few amazing guys in OGS. I think Cool could probably top Fruitdealer on a good day.
-
I always like the interesting players, so TLO and Spanishiwa, for example, are good. Ace, the winner of the IEM, is a really good player, but I’ve never seen him be creative, he seems to pick a build before he plays the match, and then just performs it perfectly, going for very standard changes, so while he’s an exceedingly good player, it’s not that fun to watch.
Whitera is good because he’s a happy medium, he knows huge numbers of builds and counters, and is able to execute them brilliantly, so watching him play is intimidating (my APM is like, 12, compared to their 100-200).
-
I don’t think TLO is quite up there in skill, but his matches are always entertaining. He’s unpredictable but not all of his schemes pay off.
-
Well, he’s quite frequently in the top 10 in terms of ladder positions, but I know that the ladder has bugger all relation to the tournaments. Personally, I think he’s up there, it’s just that his use of strange strats hinders as often as it helps. Still, I think he might have switched to Terran for tourneys now, so it will be interesting to see if that helps him (he was certainly the best “random” player I’ve seen).
-
-
-
Who won?
Was it drewby? I had my money on him xD
-
I saw some of those matches, that guy just kept cutting through his opponents with no losses. Insane!
-
MC on the oGs team, first player to win 2 GSL tournaments.
http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/MCWhitera had not lose a single match in this tournament before this and the last 2 he lost cost him.
-
It’s always weird seeing Drewby, because my dad, when he played games, used the screen name Drewboy, which is just far too similar…
I don’t tend to watch the tournaments much, but I am a big SC2 fan. Usually I’m too busy playing the game to actually watch stuff though… Although I make a special exception for Husky.
Time for our usual Wednesday Morning Buttercup.
In today’s adventure, Buttercup makes a shocking discovery about lava.
-
Trying to walk through Lava protected by a Water Veil? I’m guessing poor Buttercup steamed to death, you fiend! Not a very pleasant way to go.
Also, she needs a Purple Flame Shield by the sounds of it. She needs protection from absent-mindedness. 😛
-
Steamed, drowned and melted all at the same time. Lava really is nasty.
And yeah, methinks Buttercup may try and collect the Purple Flame Shield in 1-2 before going deeper into the mine.
-
-
Stupid Fat Ministers who are fat and throw fireballs at you and laugh at you and are fat.
>:C-
They probably have poor personal hygiene as well.
-
-
I left you a message on your site.
I’m such a constructive person, of the two things I’ve sent, one has been gibberish for the purpose of being a dick, and the other one was a potential correction to a linguist error.
I AM A GOOD FRIEND!
-
I think you’re right, so I put in a quick ninja edit.
-
So now I look like an idiot?
No change from the norm!
-
Well, I replied to your comment to say that you’re right about that. So you don’t look like a total idiot.
-
Also, that’s a bad typo from me, “linguist error,” I mean, if you consider yourself a linguist, it’s okay, but it makes much more sense as linguistic. I should really resign from caring about spelling and grammar, I am too bad at typing for it to be worth it.
-
-
-
You’re a better friend than I. When I notice errors, I don’t bother to notify Bunny. Instead I just chuckle to myself and move on.
-
But I like corrections!
-
You like to be proven wrong, you like it when we SLAM your ideas into the ground. You got a taste of something different, and now you want MORE…
Okay, I should probably stop insinuating you’re a masochist now.
-
that you’re*
GAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH
-
There’s the masochism bit and then there’s also me just thinking of it as a bit of a safety net. If someone else picks up an error that I missed, then I can go back and fix it.
-
My main problem is not learning from my mistakes. I usually manage to correct myself if I ever re-read what I’ve typed (which is rarely, I hate looking at my own work, it’s a really bad habit), but I continue to make the same mistakes all the time. I choose to blame the lack of an edit button for the majority of my stupidity.

My sister is the bestest!!
She gifted me a copy of Blood Bowl Legendary Edition on steam while it was on sale because i STILL don’t have the internet at home and she wanted to make sure i didn’t miss out 😀
-
Tell me if it’s worth it would you, I’m on the fence
-
I’ll be happy to even do up a review when i can.
God i just wish i had the net back now… NOW!! lol
-
Sooo because i have a tendency of giving stuff away recently, i have something else for whomever wants it!
A copy of the original Neverwinter Nights.
I’ve had the diamond edition for quite soem time, so the original standalone is just gathering dust…
So if you haven’t played NWN yet, and you love a good dungeon crawler, let me know and i’d be more than happy to shoot it out to you. It is a FANTASTIC game and one of my favorite RPG’s of all time (dual axe wielding dwarf ftw)
-
I’d take it but I’ll never find the time to play it…
Give her to a good home here se’ll be loved!-
WHERE SHE’LL BE LOVED…
-
-
Good luck with that, we don’t seem to have a good track record of giving away stuff here 😛
-
usually stuff i give away goes pretty quickly for some reason… *shrugs*
we’ll see how we go! lol
-
-
I’m more watching out for Neverwinter Nights 2 Storm of Zehir on it’s own myself, still need to play that.
Just keeping up my Backbreaker fanboyism… The new title announced yesterday seems to be an XBLA exclusive and will be much like the iphone game vengence (the second one) with both tackling and running, and from the screens, it looks like multiplayer also.
I am actually more excited abotu this game than the original simply because it takes the best parts of the backbreaker game and does these well, while not getting overly technical into the game itself, which many Aussies or non-yanks simply dont understand.
I am really hoping this does well and it a certain purchase for me…
This may also be the time that Loops gets this. I know he has been keen for a while but obviously cant justify a retail purchase. I’m ceratin it will be 1200 points, but we’ll see.
-
I actually saw a copy of backbreaker for $26 but couldn’t afford to get it at the time.. i am still keeping a very keen eye out for it.. it should still be there when i get back from Adelaide next week, so i may have a copy of it soon!! 😀
-
*starts packing the car to leave Adelaide for a while*
-
Heard the BEST news yesterday
Devin Townsend is coming out to Australia!!

Devin comes about every 2 years…but this is a good thing!
NEW HUMBLE BUNDLE GUYS!!!
DIG DEEP AND GET SOME SERIOUSLY AWESOME GAMES!
I’m starting to get really annoyed by the US Kotaku guys getting confused by they’re, there and their.
-
their just idiots and didn’t spend enough time at there schools.
Hey, on an unrelated note, has anyone seen my keys?
Oh, wait they’re they are!
-
ahahahahahaha!

Arrggghhhhh!!

It’ll be okay!

Careful, you might send Strange into an apoplectic fit.

You people are all evil.
Funny, but evil.

It is to much hassle for them to understand the basics of grammer.
-
grammAr
-
Trolling is a art.
-
And since that hadn’t appeared at the time of me posting my comment, I look like even more of an idiot!
-
Oh thank god. I had hoped you were living under my bridge
-
-
Actually, he meant Billy Grammer, the famous American country singer!
-
And just to clarify, yes, he was trollin’. Note “to.”
-
I could have gone all out with:
Its to much hassle for them too understand the basic’s of grammer.
Except it just felt cruel.
-
Yeah, well, see my post below, there was more stuff I was going to say, but I actually got a headache writing it.
-
-
-
I almost posted a response using your and you’re interchangably. Other erroneous terms like would of instead of would have were also in there, but I felt like throwing up so I’m posting this link instead.
-
the might oatmeal ftw!
-
Your a gentleman and a scholar Strange. Its good too see you’re dedication too proper grammatical form. I hate to see the lose spelling that people on the internet use, its just wierd how they are unable too form a proper sentence. Their is a lot more I could say, but I think I’m just going to tear my own eyes out.
That is most annoying; I personally have issues remembering which is the appropriate whether.
-
Whether the weather be fine, or whether the weather be not, we’ll weather the weather whatever the weather, whether we like it or not!

Missed one:
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/wether-
OH, that’s a nice one!
-
Wow, I was only vaguely aware of that word… Anyway, what I posted is just an old tongue twister, not really designed to help.
-
-
Yay! in 6 to 9 days I should have my The Lord is my Shepard t-shirt.
Excellent timing considering I have a christening in two and a half weeks time.
-
I noticed you picked that up. Thanks heaps for that, mate 😀
Most of the time, unfortunately, delivery takes a little over the estimated time. I hope that isn’t the case for you, however.
Unfortunately the deliveries and printing are out of my hands.-
Meh, I’ll be happy whenever it arrives.
Don’t be suprised if you get a few more orders as I have a few friends that recently picked up ME2 for the playstation, so I will be parading the shirt in front of them as often as possible.
-
Anyone know any good community sites where i can pimp my wares?
Better yet if there are any good mass effect communities, as the only 2 designs i have sold have been the ME ones..
I need to make some more sales and get some money incoming until i can get back into doing more designs…
I’ll be in Melbourne on June 17-19. What should I do while I’m down there that’s cheap and cheerful? Stuff that’s quintessentially Melbourne? My only obligation is to go to some stupidly expensive restaurant on Saturday night for a birthday.
-
Stage a Kotaku Melbourne meeting for all of us poor saps left out of the Sydney one.
Also, Cafés… so many cafés. You can’t come to melbourne without sampling at least 10 different side-street cafés.
The melbourne Museum is stupid cheap, as opposed to the aquarium which is stupid expensive. it’s also not a bad day out if you like that sort of thing.
The botanical gardens is an absolutely lovely spot, but being the middle of winter, i don’t know how great a day you might get.
Galactic Circus at Crown Casino is one of the greatest arcades around, with some of the best redeemable prizes i’ve seen in a while… although you’ll be playing for a while to score any.
The rialto observation deck or the rialto skydeck are a great way to get a birds eye view of the city and is especially lovely at dusk
god there is so many things to see and do… where abouts will you be staying? We can probably give you some better feedback that way 😛
-
Still trying to sort out accommodation actually. Any recommendations?
-
Depends on your budget and how close you want to be to the CBD.
Redevous is my favorite hotel in melbourne at a mid-range price structure. It is gorgeous.
I only ever book accom on places like lastminute.com
Another great place to stay is the Punt Hill serviced apartments. This means you don’t have to eat out for every single meal. There is one accross the road from chadstone shopping centre, which is proably one of our most famous and has pretty much every brand you can think of under one roof. It’s about 20 mins out of the cbd by car, or 30 by PT. It’s on a main road, however, although not much sound gets in, but it kills the view.
Staying around albert park is always popular as it’s adjacent to albert park lake and is a short trip to the CBD, St. Kilda and Port Melbourne.
-
Heh, I have a floor plan of Rendezvous Melbourne if front of me.
-
MAN CHOOPS, you’re good. If anyone ever asks me where to stay and visit in BrisVega I’m all like:
“Effed if I effin know! I effin live here!…eff”
And it’s true!
-
-
-
-
… Execute a notorious outlaw?
-
nice…
-
-
Melbourne is quintessentially expensive and chilly 😉
You’re too late for the comedy festival, unfortunately, that’s the number one thing I’d recommend for visitors.
ACMI might have some interesting pop culture/gaming/tech/movie related stuff on (at Fed Square in the city), other than that there’s usually a bunch of fun stuff on around the city.
Also, if you’ve never been to Phillip Island that’s always fun/pretty – but it could be freezing in June.
-
Oh hey, that’s over my b’day – you’re not coming to my super-awesome party?!
…well, that’s okay… I wasn’t gonna invite you anyways…! :'(
-
Note: I don’t actually have parties. I turn my phone ‘n everything off and hide from people to the best of my ability.
-
But I never got an invitation…!
-
Hang on a minute, it’s the Saturday?
…maybe it is a dinner for my birthday and I just haven’t planned it yet – guess I should start now…
I’ll see you there!
(Strange: checked that ‘there’ twice – just to make sure; just for you)
-
-
-
Well, for a Melbourne experience you’d have to watch a soccer match… and depending on your gender you’d either be assaulted by, or have sex with an AFL footballer.
-
Probably best to avoid this place:
http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/8236312/camera-found-in-melbourne-arcade-toilet
I probably should post this on Gizmido… but whatever: I’m so excited for the HTC Sensation (codenamed Pyramid)! I don’t think I’ll have the money to buy it outright immediately, and the phone will most likely be on Telstra (which I’d rather not prefer), but this beauty will be my next phone-to-get when my Nokia N97 mini breaks down and when I save up enough, whichever comes first.
-
gizmodo* spelling fail.
Is everyone on TAY heading for lunch already while I still have half an hour to go in lecture? : (
-
I’m actually on my mid-session break – and I’m still not getting any work done… :'(
I had the most stressful 20 minutes yesterday morning, where I thought I’d made a mistake and actually had another week of uni to go – would’ve missed two compulsory labs and I started to go crazy. So, naturally, seeing your comment that your in class made me lose my shit again (just a little bit) :\ lol
-
YOU’RE*
I MEANT YOU’RE – SORRY STRANGE, PLEASE DON’T HURT ME! D:
-
lolol

-
I just came back from lunch and was suprised by how little had been said. Everyone must feel reeeeeeeeeeeally sorry for poor tired Mark. Ever since that wrestling vid comments have slowed…OR MAYBE THEY SCARED HE GUNNA WOOP DER ACE!
-
Who was it that had the really awesome southern American wrestling accent…
Was it welbot? Can’t remember…
But I totally read that comment in that voice.
-
SUCCESS!
I still haven’t watched any of those entires…woh is meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee…

Dawdle dawdle dawdle so excited.
That bloody jackalope from RDR is going to drive me insane. 3 times now I have come across it, though the only way I have known is because of its funky theme song, and each time I have been riding my horse at top speed and have over shot it. I have then spent about 5 minutes looking for the bloody nuisance.
Its driving me crazy, its the last legendary critter I’ve got left to kill and I can never get the bloody thing.
ARRRGGGHHHH!!!
Hugo SMASH!
Why did my question(s) get pulled from Ask Me Stuff? Did I say something rude?
-
Alas, poor Plainview, now you shall see,
the harshness of Kotaku, it has happened to me.
You try to post, something witty or nice,
but seeing the respond, makes your back feel like ice.
The interweb demons, scuttle here and there,
they take your post, use it as a chair.
With your post soiled, the Kotaku server says nay,
leaving you sad and alone, at the end of the day.
But fear not my friend, a solution is found,
Mr. Mark Serrels, his eyes rather round.
May choose to help you, in your little plight,
and off he marches, the server to fight.
He sees what you said, decides if it’s spam,
and then may retrieve it, our gingerbeard man.Geez, I should write kids books, this shiz is golden (note, I know how bad it is, don’t judge me).
-
Naaaaaaaaaaah, is good mate. For relaz. u should .
Really, it’s not so bad.
-
Well, if I was writing for kids, it’s not like it would matter! (I have chosen to ignore the fact that it is parents who actually read the children’s books.
-
We have a whole bunch at home for the boy. Most are barely stories.
We have this one about an androgynous child and the cat and all they do is have a picture with one sentance
“We wake up”
“we have a little clean”
“we eat”
“we play”
“and play”
“and play”
“we rest”Theres a few other pages but you get the idea.
-
Are there any which work like a Pixar film? As in, as well as appealing to the kids, they have adult references and stuff…
Maybe I could write one with lots of clever word-play…
Who wants to help me make a children’s book? We’ll become rich I tellsya! RICH!
-
We don’t seem to have any, Graeme Base’s books are very well painted so that’s a plus. I imagine(can’t remember) that the work od Dr. Suess is a lot deeper than it initially seems.
-
-
-
Although, I appear to have forgotten how to phrase sentences, as one of those words should be response.
I really, really, really should have learned to proofread by now…
-
This has just been stamped with a red hot wax Plainview seal of approval.
Sometimes stuff just dissapears…
Hey old bean.
I emailed you directly about your question – if you could get your representative to email me his phone number, we can have your tv sent out today!
-
i ♥ u . . . like strawberry milkshakes & sun bears.
Email sent,
Plainview.
Anyone got any good links to sumpin I can read?
(Not your blog Trjn, I already know that one!)
I bored…again…boo…
OH! Has to b safe 4 wurk!!
-
My webcomic?
Sometimes I feel like I should hold back on the shameless self-advertising. Not often.
-
Re-heh-healy??
I read all your comic…

Making a post about grammar is dangerous.
I’ve been checking everything I write in case I mess up. Oh, and it made Ambrose The Fourth scared of me.
-
Truth be told, I’m scared of everyone.
…but yes, you in particular at the moment *whimper*
-
Having just started posting, I now live a life of sheer terror.
Where every posting could be expertly scrutinised for grammatical errors and a single mistake may possibly bring down the Wrath of Strange.-
Don’t worry, if you stick to being a Hungarian Barbarian (almost typed Bavarian…) then we can just discount it as the silly foreigner (dirty dirty boat people, how dare they come to Australia like that, it’s not like anyone else came here by boat!) who is unable to use English, because he’s foreign. And we all know foreigners are only good at being bad at English, and stealing all our jobs. How dare those unskilled workers from Iran take my job!
*cough*
Sorry, I need to express my hatred of Australia’s Xenophobia on occasions and this seemed a perfect time to do so.
-
Here here!
-
Yay! Me is be good the english speaking yes?
Actually I took english at uni, so I don’t suppose I can use my strange foreign customs and mannerisims as an excuse for poor grammar can I?
How about being a barbarian?
Or at least claiming to be one?
-
-
All Barbarians get a free pass!
As does anyone who is not a professional writer. So stop being scared of me. Please?-
I dunno Strange, having seen those Bookface photos of yours, I think he’s justified, you truly look like a positively terrifying individual.
-
That reminds me, I forgot to spy on you. Probably because after seeing your wrestling promo I already knew what you looked like.
Hmmm, if I’m that scary-looking, maybe I should have done of those wrestling videos after all…. -
Uh-oh…damn you No Edit Button! Worst thread ever to make a mistake on!
*done ONE of thoseWords that end the same always trip me up when typing. Grrrr. Now I feel like Grover at the end of ‘The Monster At The End Of This Book’….
-
-
-
Umm… okay.. I’ll try
*cautiously creeps back on to TAY website*
-
I’m sticking with my usual strategy of blindly posting, then crying at the lack of an edit button because I have to correct myself. I’ve been particularly bad today, so I’m assuming that me thinking about grammar is making my grammar and typing worse.
Having skim caramel latte instead of regular full cream fatty caramel latte. The real deal tastes better.

My best mate’s Mum gave me a good term for skim – unleaded
Shaun of the Dead, Scott Pilgrim style.

I’m getting this error message whenever I try to open email attachments with one particular name:
Cannot create file: file name. Right-click the folder you want to create the file in and click Properties on the shortcut menu to check your permissions for the folder.
This is very frustrating as I have a ridiculous amount of email attachments with that exact name and it is only files with that name that are causing issues.
Worst of all, I’m meant to be the IT person around these parts. /sadface

I cleared out the temporary internet files for Outlook and solved this little problem. As hard as it was to track down where they were.
-
The first piece of tech support my father taught me, so that I’d stop bitching at him to fix things, was if all else fails, clear the cache. It’s worked remarkably well for me over the years.
-
That’s great advice. The problem is that MS Outlook likes to hide the cache, so my main issue was finding the cache.
Also, the first rule of tech support is to restart.
-
I thought the first rule was to check that it was plugged in.
This was just what my Dad taught me when I was like, 10, and I understand the difficulty with caches, some of them are in bizarre locations.

Here’s an interesting phenomena I’ve observed:
Why is it that Nintendo consoles and portables are referred to just “The Nintendo”?
Mostly by older generation, less tech-savvy people (the latest example I can think of is Jono and Dano on WSFM in Sydney. They were talking about the 3DS). Is it just the logical sequential numbering of Playstation consoles that defines Sony consoles as “The Playstation” rather than “The Sony”? And what about the XBOXes? In my mind, there’s a definite difference between referring to the XBOX and 360, where the former indicates the first generation of Microsoft consoles, but then people seem to use the term “XBOX” to refer to either console.
Does it just stem from the first Nintendo console being called the Nintendo Entertainment System in the West, and with each new system having no real naming pattern behind it (like Playstation), and the “Nintendo” part is the only thing that ever stuck with them in their apathetic ways towards gaming, or is it actually amazing brand recognition?
-
Nintendo is a brand focused on gaming, both consoles and games, while Sony is recognised in many different areas of technology, like cameras, TVs, laptops etc. Same goes for Microsoft, XBox 350 is only a line within the many branches of brand development.
-
I think they got too many childish giggles from saying “The Wii” too much 😛
-
That’s really interesting, I’d never noticed that people call them that.
Perhaps because (for my generation at least) “the Nintendo” (64) was generally the first console we owned, was bought by parents, etc, and so was always referred to as “the Nintendo”. Perhaps in adults’ minds, the flurry of new console names is to difficult to process? So everything is “a Nintendo”.
(As in, GET OFF THE NINTENDO)
If I had spare time, money, and effort, it’d be really interesting to track the development of the term through newspaper articles and internet posts or anecdotes, etc.
/academic-y
-
I’d say it probably is related to the continuous naming conventions compared to an overarching company. I saw the exact same thing, both the Wii, and the 3DS were referenced as the new Nintendo thing, by my mother. To be honest, I was surprised she even recognised the 3DS and knew what it was at all.
I guess, Sony wants the Playstation to be known as such, Microsoft is still failing to champion Direct X with the Xbox brand (took me ages to realise that that was why it was called the Xbox), and so Nintendo is happy to let everything be known by its own name, as they return to their towers of money.
-
Direct X?
Well I just learned sumpin noo!-
Kinda like when I realised why Windows was called Windows. It was always around since I was young so I never put any thought into it, then one day when someone said open up a new window and I was all like …AWWWWWWWW!!!
Either that or it was acid…don’t remember.
-
-
-
I think you answered your own question.
In my house we call all handhelds gameboy. Sometimes my wife calls the 360 gameboy, I think in that instance she just means game machine.
But foe me all handhelds are measured against the monster that was gameboy, the first gaming device I ever owned. -
It’s more to do with Microsoft and Sony never calling it ‘The Microsoft Xbox’ or ‘The Sony Playstation’.
Both were established brands not involved in the gaming sector… they distanced themselves in case the systems flopped.
Only enthusiasts differentiate the models… most refer to them simply as The Playstation and The Xbox.
-
I call em:
The Wee
Piss3
the 360
the gameboy and
the sony gameboy
and PC is puteners. -
So is “Sony Playstation 3” only a recent thing? I swear they’ve been doing that in some PS3 ads (maybe the Kevin Butler ads, or maybe I’m just confused and making it up). I don’t really remember them doing it for the last two Playstations.
-
If I’m remembering correctly.
And it fits the mould… also, this ties it into their other media brands.
Buy a Sony home entertainment centre:
Sony 3D TV, Sony Stereo, Sony Speakers, Sony VCR and a Sony Playstation 3 with built in BluRay player.-
I was moving some stuff higher last night(the boy can semi-stand now) and I noticed that the gamecube games say NINTENDO Gamecube on the side whereas PS2 games just say Playstation 2 and Xbox and 360 games also omit the company name.
So maybe it’s a branding thing…
-
-
-
-
I always said ‘Sony’ instead of ‘Playstation’ when I briefly owned a PS2. But I have never said ‘Microsoft’ instead of ‘xBox’, because ‘xBox’ has fewer syllables.
I always said ‘NES’, ‘SNES’, ‘GameBoy’, ’64’, ‘Wii’, or ‘Gamecube’ instead of ‘Nintendo’ for the same reason.
But maybe that’s just me…
-
All handhelds are gamboys, just like all vampires are draculas!
I endorse this comment, there is no sarcasm!
-
The ‘attack’ button for Nier is Square. The ‘use item’ button in Demon’s Souls is Square. I’ve been wasting lots of precious herbs by spamming the Square button when surprised by enemies.
-
Yeah Crash Bandicoot to Kingdom Hearts have done similar to me, instead of jumping away from a huge shockwave, I swing my keyblade at it, both were the X button… lol
-
Happened to me a lot when I first started the game. Not because I’ve played Nier but because a lot of the third person rpg/action games I’ve played have the attack button as square (or X on 360) like Fable and God of War.
-
Heh, I get confused by different game controls with similar games on the XBox, like the left trigger in Halo: Reach is throw grenade while left trigger in COD: Black Ops is quick scope :\
-
That used to always get me, i’d go from reloading with ‘rb’ in halo to throwing a grenade and team killing in CoD4
-
-
That sounds like me whenever I play any shooter that isn’t halo. Playstation ones are particularly bad, I’ll go to shoot and, hop into cover, or throw a grenade, or bite down on my cyanide capsule or something.
-
I think you meant to say you’re paticularly bad at playstation games.
It’s the bad worker who blames his tools!
-
WOH! That’s sounds a lot crueler than I originally intended. SORRY, dood!
-
No! Don’t apologise. He deserves it. On Page 4 he said I look terrifying. *cries*
-
I’m sorry Strange, I was just joking. Can you find it in your heart to forgive me?
And yeah, Jimu, I just suck with the PS3 controller, the triggers piss me off to no end.
-
WOOO! I can do both! I can semi do mouse and keyboard(my fingers still move away from keys slowly) and I suck at Wii cos Im too lazy to stand up!
-
-
What a bastich!!
-
-
That’s how the colonel created his secret recipe.
True story.
-
I also endorse this comment!
Can’t you reconfigure the buttons?
-
Don’t be silly! Who puts options in games anymore?
-
When I was a boy (here we go) OPTIONS was an option on the title screen! You could change all sorts of things before you even started playing! Nowadays they just keep taking them away! In a few years there will be no games, just movies with the occasional choice like those old Mega CD games!
-
-
Nope. Wouldn’t want to. I find control schemes to be a part of the ‘world’ of the game.
I’m okay in Demon’s Souls now, just took a while to get back into it because Nier is the only game I’ve played this year so the configuration had taken hold of my gaming muscle-memory a bit ferociously.
Hate that.
Remember how in the PSX days the FF buttuns rotated and switched each game??
Heads up folks, Star Wars The Clone Wars TV series is on today at 5:30pm on ABC3…yes, it is definitely worth watching. Each episode is better than Episode I, even the ones with Jar-Jar…I own season 1 and 2 on DVD, so I should know.
-
I sat through episode I, I could not sit through that first clone wars movie…so no I disagree.
On the other hand, because it’s on TV and I’ll only be half paying attention then GREAT! I can’t wait. Is a lot better than all the other pap that oozes from the screen!
And I have no interest in cars but I can sit through a whole episode of Top Gear, those guys a very talented entertainers!
-
By “that first clone wars movie”, you mean this right? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1185834/
From memory, the TV series is better than that movie…but you’ll find out for yourself soon enough
😀-
If I make it home in time.
-
-
-
Just found out it’s on every weekday at 5:30 pm, starting today…and just a quick note, make sure you don’t miss toworrow’s, friday’s and monday’s episodes, they are a three part story about the Malevolence. And now that your curiosity is piqued, you have no choice to watch those episodes, or forever not now what the Malevolence is :E <-Evil grin
-
-
Yes…yes, you win…grrrr
-
I didn’t make it home in time…
-
-
-
Hey Jimu, in reply to your post about Dr Suess on the last page: http://www.fishpond.com.au/Books/Dr-Suess-and-Philosophy-Jacob-Held/9781442203112?utm_source=email&utm_medium=books&utm_campaign=nonfiction_books120411 evidently there is more to the books than just kid’s stories…
-
Kewl, just emailed myself the link for later. I like a bit o philofizin!
-
And filo pastry!
-
-
I’d be interested to hear the good Doctor’s opinion on that (If only he was still around).
When he heard that ‘Horton Hears a Who’ was being misinterpreted by anti-abortion peeps, he was all like “Lolwut? STFU!”
Behold my army! http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb449/lamboman007/2011-04-13_111858.png
You better start behaving now Q-bo 😛
-
sup dawg?!
-
What the…? Is that all the number of wolves spawned in our KotAU minecraft world?!
I’m intimidated by that screenshot.
-
Nah, them’s just my wolves…A few other people have wolves too. A herd of wolves spawned right in front of me once, so everyone(blaghman, gorzilla & Qumulys) teleported over and got their own wolves…
So far from memory, there have been at least 13 wolves found on the server, some of which have passed away due to unfortunate accidents [solemn music]™
-
Bored so gonna rant…
Just went to Coles ate a whip, these are nice. Kinda like a better Mas but in a cheaper lookin packet. Mars has a great pack; mostly black then red and with a little gold to make it look like chocolate royalty. They say purple is the clour of royalty, doesn’t work with chocolate though, Cadbury seem to throw purple on to everything. And chips(crisp for you, Mark)? purple just makes me think of salt & vinegar, my favourite. Funny story when I was in singapore S&V were in blue packets…BLUE! Just didn’t compute, kept thinking they were sour cream and chives or something, wait, that’s green. French Onion dip? What ever happened to that flavour? It was my favourite for a few years after I got over Cheese & Onion. These days it’s S&V all the way, although I do occasionally like supreme doritos or Nacho Cheese…not a big difference. I wish the spicy ones were more common…can’t remember the name, but they are nice!
Drinks you ask? It’s always Coke, I always want Coke. Sometimes when there is no Coke I get Solo, that’s a good replacement, unlike Pepsi. True story, when I was a kid and I saw Back to the Future 2 I started to drink Pepsi, thought it was great. Would have drank Tab too, but we don’t seem to have it.
Sometimes I get the urge to drink Lime flavoured milk. It’s such an odd combination, but every few months I crave it.
I think my favourite chocolate would be Twirl, I get sick of it though. Speaking of getting sick of, I have eaten cornflakes for breakfast for the past 5 years or more. I’d eat shredded Wheat but you get more bang for your buck with cornflakes. Sometimes I eat bacon and eggs or something…but not often.
Started playing Dragon Quest VI the other night, not a bad little JRPG. If I complete it quickly enough I might try and do a reader review. Don’t have very strong feelings on it, is a port of an old SNES game which would have ruled at the time but we never saw in in AUS.
First JRPG I ever played? Must have been Secret of Mana(Zelda doesn’t count does it?). Still to this day I have never finished it. Used to hire it from the local video store and some prick would alwasy delete my save. I tried again years later on emulator, lost that save somewhere too. If I ever get an iDevice that supports it I will be very tempted to pick it up. Do they do demos on iDevices? Can I see if they mangled it with bad touch controls?
Ring of Fates also looks like a winner, played it for a good 30 seconds on a mates iPad.
-
how you going to whoop Mr Tooth Decay like that?
-
I’ve always eaten shit and always had great teeth. Had my first filling about 2 or 3 years ago. Im almost 30.
I only ever remeber to brush once a day. Just got lucky I think.Oh, you were kidding…
-
i’m hardly one to judge: i’m not without my vices. i just like the idea of whooping Mr Tooth Decay is all.
-
of course
-
-
-
-
Salt & Vinegar is green in the UK! GREEN!
-
That’s even wierder. I think chicken when I see green, I hate chicken.
-
Dudes, we just had the Good Game guys in the office for a story they’re doing.
I had to borrow/steal/plagiarise one of Chuloopa’s awesome lines! It should be on this Tuesday I think…
-
I hope it wasn’t sexual innuendo!
-
that’s where you and me are different.
-
Mwa ha hah ahah hah
-
-
But it’s Loops line! How could it not be?
-
It could be an obscure Star Wars ref!
-
Been busy at wurque? We miss you, nohandle!
-
Thanks mate :)Has been a bit. Still checking in, just haven’t had time to comment. Should be back in full force tomorrow…
-
wooooooooooooooop…wait that means less money for you…awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww…
-
-
-
This I’ll have to see 😀
-
I don’t know if I wanna see Mark talk again, I could start reading all his articles in accent. Like when I read X-Men, Wolverine sounds like the 90s cartoon and Prof.X like Picard in my head!
I think Spider-Man might sound like me! Superman sounds like Kevin Costener(Not really) and Batman sounds like whoever did the 90s cartoon voice.
IronMan looks and sounds nothing like Downey Jnr.If I rememebr I’ll watch.
-
I already read all of Mark’s articles and comments (and even some that are not his!) in his accent. It’s lodged in my brain after listening to him on that Game Arena podcast a couple of months ago!
-
Prof X sounds like the 90’s cartoon whenever I read.
Although now it’ll probably change to Picard. You’ve planted a seed in my brain!-
“and I’ve seen everything”
-
lolol!
‘Is there any nudity in it?’
‘Not really’
‘Oh…’
‘Well, there could be…’
‘Men or women?’
‘Either’
*Patrick is disapointed*
‘Well, just women’
*Patrick is excited* -
The Sir Ian McKellan episode made me choke. I was literally laughing that hard!
-
Hahaha, ‘Sir Ian, Sir Ian, Sir Ian’!
-
“you shall not pass! Sir ian, sir Ian sir Ian”
-
-
I just watched the first 50 odd seconds of him interviewing Gervais in that episode, and I’ve had to pause it, I’m laughing too hard.
-
COMEDY>>>GOLD!
-
I thought that was on last night???
You and some chubby brit, talking about movies and video games..?
-
Hahahah! I knew that was coming.
-
Yeah, I don’t know why Mark is pretending that wasn’t him…
This concerns me a little bit…
-
Will you be features on the same episode?
-
Whaaaaa? Wait, no, I mean, concern, as in I am concerned that loops is allowed to be out in the wild on a daily basis.
-
I thought he just had a putener in the cage with him?
-
-
Was it the line about the winning sperm?
Oh god… there are so many things running through my head as to what this could be…
Were you wearing my shirt? It would be awesome if you were.. i could launch a massive advertising campaign…
“SIMON PEGG WEARS CHULOOPA OVERLOAD CLOTHING!!!”
The internet is dumb.. they won’t knwo the difference…
Man i’m REALLY going to have to remember to watch this coming tuesday then… oh.. buggger, i’ll still be in Radelaide so i might not get to see it.. you can watch episodes online, yeah?
-
Also, should i be concerned that my reputation is so abysmal that the word “Chuloopa” is automatically associated with smut?
-
Dude – I thought about wearing your shirt. But I just forgot. SHIT.
If I’m ever going to be on TV again, unless it’s news when I have to be schmancy in a shirt, I’ll wear your t-shirt.
-
Wear my shirt with a tie and a suit jacket – problem solved… and people will think you’re hip!
-
this tuesday? u mean the 19th?
Here’s all the proof I needed:
http://www.1up.com/news/half-life-development-hindered-steam
PC Gamers are the reason we don’t have Half Life 3.
-
Ha! They can’t complain cos of all those sweet deals they keep gettin, I can’t complain cos I aint even finished 2 yet!
Kevin Conroy IS and FOREVER SHALL BE Batman 🙂
-
Aarrgh!!
Was supposed to be a reply to Jimu above-
Needs more: THE GOD-DAMN BATMAN!
-
90s BM right??
-
Yes 90’s cartoon BM. Did a fair few of the animated movies, Gotham Knight and the new games.
/fanboy swoon
-
-
I just sent an email to Mark about something potentially exciting! You guys will find out soon 😀
-
We will? Did we find out yet? did I miss something? IS THE WORLD ENDING?!?! TELL MEEEEE!
-
I’m still anxiously waiting for a follow-up call.
-
Not sure if it has been said on here yet .. but Ocarina of time just got a US release and we should get it here on either 16/17th of June. Yay.
-
There was an ocarina on Play School yesterday. Seeing as it was the same day as the release date was announced,I took it as a sign that I’ll need to buy a 3DS after all.
Not sure if my husband agrees though…. 😛-
My wife was happy to hear that I’m waiting for a good game to come out.
She did just have a beer though…-
At 9am?
-
Damn straight!
Nawwwwwww, this was last night, dood. I at wurque now!
Also, ZING!
-
-
-
If the review I’m planning to have up on Friday morning doesn’t get done, I have the slightest feeling that it might be as a result of me not playing the game or doing any writing tonight.
For some reason, I’m just damned tired right now. It could be because I had many delicious coffees at work today and now my body has decided to shut down.
-
“Daisy, daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaisssyyyyyyyyyyyy…”
-
If you know this, how could you think HAL 9000 was from Blade Runner?!
-
I forgot about that, did you get angry?
-
YES! I queried you as to whether or not you were joking. I assume now that you were, which brings immense relief.
-
-
Have you ever seen Full Metal jacket? That’s the best romantic comedy evar!!!111!!1!!!
-
Jimu, what is your major malfunction?
-
“mississippi black snake”
-
-
-
I’m not sure why exactly, but caffeine always makes me tired after consumption – not sleepy tired… just tired.
So, I guess I can understand, but I don’t really get the “I KNEAD MY COFFI NAO!” people anyways.
-
My morning coffee generally takes me from “dear merciful Jebus, why do I have to put up with this whole ‘morning’ nonsense?” to “I almost feel like a functional human being.”
Extra coffee on that gives me a nice little energy boost that is pretty enjoyable.
Then there’s the caffeine crash at the end of it where all energy is just depleted. Basically the polar opposite of the energy boost. That’s what hit me last night and I ended up just lying in bed watching Let’s Plays and Arrested Development.
-
Yep, this petty much is right. Without coffee in the mornings I’m now literally zombie like. Cannot think properly. And do stuff like put the kettle in the fridge.
-
Wow, you guys sound like drug addicts…Oh wait…
-
-
Speaking of coffee http://www.collegehumor.com/video/6452709/troopers-coffee-run 😀
-
OH HO! The coffe-runs, when you drink so much coffee you poop yerself! Classic!
More stories from the world of Minecraft
Those of you who are on Fatshady’s server may have noticed my little shack I built as a temporarily home and some of you know I’ve had serious issues with monsters there. I’ve managed to find a work around for the mobs spawning on me when I slept but it seemed nearly every time I left the shack yesterday and today I’d get myself and half the shack blown up by creepers.
I finally decided I’d had enough of this and made a small bridge extending from my front door so I could look around and make sure there was nothing there before leaving. I even put up a sing that read “Dear creepers, Please stop blowing up my house. Regards, Gorzilla.”
This bridge apparently managed to provide shelter from the harsh sun long enough for one skeleton to shoot my pet wolf, before a creeper blew up the bridge, I was pounced on by a spider and then another creeper blew up the front of my shack.
this made me rather angry.
As a result I’ve now heavily upgraded the passive defences of my temporary abode. The signpost now reads “COME AND HAVE A GO IF YOU THINK YOU’RE HARD ENOUGH!”
-
I haven’t been on the server for days, nothing to do with me ;x
-
I usually get stuck with a creeper outside my front and only door with nobody else online… not cool. Currently desperately trying to get more wood to make a bigger house and make my own mineshaft within.
-
Yeh, escape tunnels are a good idea.
-
Ah! *claps* eureka! lol
-
-
This makes me laugh and feel sad at the same time…
http://www.buzzfeed.com/donnad/bitter-borders-compilation
The Oatmeal appearance on #4.
-
I like number 13 the most.
-
bahahah – that’s so hilarious… well… most of them…
Personally i’m not too sad to see borders go.. only the Gloria Jeans inside of borders…
Borders has always been WAY overpriced for my tastes, so this was kind of inevitable..
What does upset me is that this is just another knife in the back to physical books… i loves them oh so much.. please don’t die 🙁
-
Though their prices sucked, they had a decent range of books that you just can’t find in smaller shops. Stuff like classics (Shakespeare etc) or non-fiction which wouldn’t be stocked in other bookstores, because they aren’t popular gifty-sorta books.
That being said, everything is online for a third of the price. Moot point.
-
-
Making light of the dark, I LOVE IT!
-
I disagree.
-
PROBOPASSSSSSSSSS
*shakes fist*-
Agreed, that thing is seriously wtf inspiring,

LOL. That’s gold.
Exciting day for me! Finally going to register my business name! w00t! welbot IT will finally be a reality! yay!!
-
Awesome dude! Congrats man. Such a great name for an IT business as well.
-
Thanks man! BBest part is, I just found out where I have to go get it registered, and it’s only 2 mins from my house!! SCORE!!!
-
Dude.. that is such great news.
Congrats mate.
I wish i could give you a big arse firm handshake – man business stylez!
-
-
-
That’s awesome news fellow bot, congrats!! 🙂
-
Congrats man! Have you made a cool logo yet?
-
Several weeks ago, I decided I will go with the wonderful creation by Sir Sughly!
-
Woo! You found my deviants 😀
I’ll link it to you somehow too if you want. not that many people look at my deviants :'(
-
I still think it’s so darn adorable!

Awesome! That reminds me, I should probably do the same thing…

Cool. Congrats Welbot 🙂
Trjn… i think it was you that posted about his comic…
Dude, i love it… especially this..
http://asininecircus.com/archives/a-day-in-the-asinine-life/
THIS is how you grow old:D
-
That was definitely me that posted that, seeing as I wrote it. On top of that, it’s easily my favourite thing that I’ve ever written or been involved in writing.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Not sure if you guys saw it yesterday or not, but there is a new Humble Bundle out with some MAGNIFICENT games, with the proceeds going to charity..
It is, as always, pay what you want – but don’t be a tight arse about if if you don’t want some bad karma
?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
ANNOYING REMINDER!!! #9 . . .
Mark?
Did you get the email regarding the contact numbers??? Will someone give ian (my bros.) a call in the not too distant future? He lives at the contact address provided, he can be contacted there on the mobile or home phone at any reasonable hour.
all up in yo face with the crazy-mad harassment skills,
Plainview.
??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
-
Got it, sent it!
-
magnifique!!!
-
Plainview. The riddle, wrapped in a mystery ,inside an enigma. Only contactable via a third party? Secret contacts and hand offs…
I like to think that you on the run from the man, a Poet Laureate who knew to many secrets and now must get his Jason Bourne on in the name of truth, justice and well prosed verse…-
Pausing only to check on KotakAU, Plainview placed his internet device on the ground.
“Damn” he muttered, “I would kill for a phone right now, just so I can get my prize.”
He paused, looked through his binoculars at the street below, and smiled. That’s kind of how I imagine him, as a Bourne like character. He makes up for his eloquence in text by being forced to speak only in single syllable words (one and a half syllables are allowed).
-
He reminds me of Columbo on acid. :-/ But I loves him.
-
I thik he (if Plainview is a he) is more like V for Vendetta… long grandios streams of witty wordplay, interspersed with moments of pure arse kickery.
-
-
-
Mark – what’s all this Bret Hart nonsense?!
-
I spoke to him this morning on the phone.
Lost my mind.
We’ll have the interview up today or tomorrow. (Prob tomorrow).
-
This isn’t wrastling!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LijCcl_9VeA
-
You actually got to speak to Bret “The Hitman” Hart?! YOu lucky SUMBITCH!
-
I like to imagine he was wearing Black and Pink spandex during the call!
-
Mark or Bret? 🙂
Oh and since we are talking bout wrestling…So sad that Edge had to retire. Edge was a legend and a great worker. -
Agreed.
-
Dont be silly, Mark would be wearing green and blue!
-
Hearing that Edge was retiring and (later) watching him announce it pretty much ruined my day – went to youtube to reminisce and ended up watching more than 2 hours of stuff.
If WWE don’t keep him in some capacity, well… I’ll never watch again! 😮
-
-
-
So I inadvertently found out the name and description of one of Portal 2’s achievements. I won’t say the name, because it is a slight spoiler but the description is brilliant:
That just happened.
I’m expecting something truly epic to happen right before that achievement pops.
-
Thanks to you I had to look it up. Knowing Valve, it might be something really disappointing, just to mess with you.
Ended up looking at the rest of the cheevs, and they really seem to be pushing co-op. Which is aggravating for me and my 0 friends. But at least they have that lovely Valve sense of humour.
-
What are you going to be playing it on? I will have a copy on PS3 and PC if you want to co-op with me. Just have to wait for it to arrive from Zavvi a week or two after release.
-
-
Like a sneeze?
So, I don’t think I’m going to make it to the Kotaku AU Sydney meet-up and that’s pretty disappointing. :\
FatShady generously offered me a lift ‘n everything, but I’m supposed to be down in Wollongong for a family [thing] at 11am and, realistically, I don’t’ve a very good chance of making it back early enough… apparently there are only so many functions you can miss before your family threaten to disown you – outrageous!
That being said, I’ll try and make it if anything changes – if not, I hope everyone: has an awesome time, takes plenty of photos ‘n stuff and conducts all conversations over Twitter so I can follow along. 😀
Hopefully it becomes a semi-regular thing and we can get another one going later in the year…!
-
Sucks you can’t make it. btw, I only offered to give him a lift because he lives near my house. If it were any of you (Looking at the VIC and QLD dudes) this offer has been withdrawn!
So the question is, who is going? I have not heard back from Sir eats alot about my super secret venue and all, so i guess we just stick with the EB games meet up and we can walk there? It’s only 500m away if you still want it?
I just want to know if its worth bringing in a console and so we can play some games or not to bother?
Let me know who is coming and if you think it’s worth the effort.
-
I’m going – let me know where you guys are meeting up?
-
Plainview lives in WA and nohandle in SA…can they get a lift??
-
Don’t forget Blaghman in Canberra (Wherever-the-hell that is…)
-
Plainview is a myth who lives ‘nowhere’ and nohandle can hang out with me anytime..
OK, I’ll get no handle. Meet me at the airport (Sydney!)
-
Well, seeing as you’re meeting Mr. NoHandle at the Airport, you may as well grab me from there too….
Seriously though, I need some concrete times/places. 12 midday at EB George Street was Sir. Eats A Lot’s original plan and seeing as he didn’t seem to jump at your offer I guess that’s still the plan?
Somebody make a finalised plan!! Please. -
Tempting…. 🙂
Saw you Heavy Metal Kings post. Heard for the first time on the weekend. Had a mate who kept going on bout them and snowgoons and then proceeded to play most of the things you have recommended to me. -
yeah i get the impression that once you are a fan of this stuff, you just get infected with all the same stuff..
It is not surprising at all.
Hey, did i mention that RA the Rugged man is planning a MAY tour in AUS?
-
-
-
-
I want the secret venue with a console and pizza! You will bring 4 controllers, yes? : ) I think meeting at EBGames and walking there is reasonable. Maybe we need a sign up sheet of some sort to see who is realistically going to turn up for the event. If there’s anything I could do to help organising just let me know.
-
I’m still keen to go straight to the super secret venue, due to the time constraints I mentioned to you.
As for a console, I doubt that I’d play it unless you had something riotous and 4 player.
-
Perfect Dark HD…AWESOME!
-
Count me in!
-
You goin to Sydney now?
-
Oh wait… yeah I see… nevermind.
-
-
🙁
It’s been a fair few years since I’ve been to Sydney so I doubt I’ll be back anytime soon.
Which of course means that no matter how many times Kotaku people meet up in Sydney, this will be the best one, and you’ll miss out. 😛
-
Nawwwww… well, I’ll have to go to the Brisbane one too (if such a thing ever happens)
…but yeah, thanks for making me feel better about it 😛
I’m interested to see if this thing is actually real or not! Check out this link and let me know what you guys reckon!
-
Terms of use and code of conduct are both “coming soon”
A little suss…
-
No No No…
10 e-mail addresses and they will give you $25.
Not likely mate. Phishing site for sure. The guy who registered this site lists himself as a entrepreneur who invests in innovative start up companies and travels around the world.. more like lives in his parents basement while scamming a bunch of people…
If you really want to test it, create 10 new e-mail addresses then send the e-mail to yourself 10 times… wait and see how much spam you get!
I’d stay well clear mate.
-
How do you get that info?
-
The Internetz…
Domain name registration, then tracked the company name to a linkdin profile… easy stuff.
-
GUH?
You forget I’m a computard.
-
-
-
hhehe yer.. not surprisingly, once you get to 10, it asks you to complete offers.. probably those enter your mobile number ones.. didn’t expect anything else, but had to try at least 😉
-
I was just in JB Hifi during my lunch break and there were signs all over the store advertising 20% off all games. Unfortunately, the only things that I was tempted by were Crisis 2 and De Blob 2. So I might wait until tomorrow, if I’m still interested in those games, I’ll buy them then.
The sale goes until Sunday for those interested.
-
Why thank you, kind sir!
-
Don’t ferget to pick us up a pressie for your Bday last week.
From yer big brudda( attempting to give you a dead arm, right now).
-
Us? Who is us? Me? Yeah I might buy something for me, for my birthday… maybe. Thanks?
-
I think you’re out to confuse me this week! :'(
-
The mismatched movie quotes and idiot movie speak is suppossed to infuriate you to the point of not caring anymore, thus eliminating any nazisms left in your system.
-
Me confusing you is a total fluke!
-
-
-
Does it bring the prices anywhere near ozgameshop prices??
-
Not for the games I checked out. There’s still a $10-$20 dollar difference.
-
I am dissapoint…
-
Apparently EXCLUDES consoles, bundles, game cards and accessories. If it didn’t a 3DS would have been just $271 .. tragic. Also other stores will have to price match, so there’s a good excuse to go to EB Games. Don’t forget to mention it to the clueless parents there aswell!!
-
No I’ll stick with JB thanks. EB is poop.
-
That’s fairly standard for this sort of sale, if there was a discount on game hardware as well as the games themselves, I’d be holding a 3DS in my grubby little paws right now.
Not because I really want one, but because that’s just too good of a bargain to pass up on.
-
You’re gonna keep us updated on 3DS prices, right , VG??
-
Yessum:
Kmart: $328 (Best Price Instore)
Dick Smith: $328 with a game (Only Online, best price)
JB HI-FI: $338 (With Accessory pack)
Harvey Norman: $349
EB Games: $349
Game: $399 (WTF!??!)
Big W: $348 (Might be out of stock)-
Thanks. bru.. I’ll ask again when there’s a must have game!
Do tell if there’s ever a ridiculous special!
-
-
I think Target has a similar deal this weekend…
GAH! You were quicker than me. lol
I posted the link down below.. oh well. either way it could still be pretty neat for picking up some older games 😀
BRUDDA Sughly
Did you end up checking out Promethea?
Is gooooooooooooooooooood(please forget I ever advised purchasing LO).
-
Nooo sorry I didn’t 🙁
Now that you bring it up again tho I will! And why forget LO? Are you now ashamed of suggesing I play it? Have you now decided it sucks? I was procrastinating playing it enough before you put this doubt in my mind!
-
No it rooolz!1!!!1!
Just felt I gave poor advice as you seemed to have moved on from the JRPG love.
-
Yeah I dunno, I’m just not really giving any RPG my love atm. Still havent been bothered to play Fallout 3, even tho 1 and 2 were so totally awesome the best. Maybe its BECAUSE of that that I havent played 3 tho. Point is, I cant bring myself to get involved in leveling up, and exploring, and whatnot.
-
Is fair, I’d be more scared of RPGs if I worked from home. My biggest prob is finding the time. Takes so long to finish one at an hour a night!
-
-
-
I’ll spare you all my tales of my various ejaculating holes, spouting liquids, and barely solid solids. How dare the chunk of cow I made as my dinner get revenge?
But! There’s been a mystery on FS’s Minecraft server!! It appears lamboman may have been the target of some ill tempered server raiders! :-O
Also, I can’t believe my luck this week, first Sughly generosity with the tablet, and now welbot is sending me a replacement printer!! So big thanks to them both, and from Flic cause now she wont have to walk to officeworks to print her school work.
MARK, how unreal are these guys!!! I still pinch myself that after all this time, this community is just filled with the kindest hearts on the internet! *wipes tear from eye*
-
Haha, thats awesome Q. Welbot sending a printer that is, not the ejaculating… holes. I sent the tablet away yesterday, just to let you know while I’m here!
-
Coolies thanks mate! Can you send me some of your bank details so I can put some monies in there for you??? I’m not sure what to expect, I’ve got some painting skills (well, I’m a beginner still http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h17/CloudoftheFallen/Qumulys1stPainting.jpg ) so I’m wondering how/if any ability I have will transfer to the digital realm. I’m very eager to find out so I can’t wait 😀
Thanks again!-
THAT”S MADGOOD!
-
Are you kidding? That painting is awesome! I’m very sure it’ll translate over. To get your head around the logistics of the tablet is one thing, but having the ability to paint is another, which you sir have.
As for post and some other things I was gonna go over, I’ll emails you! Later. When I’m bothered 😀
-
That painting is AMAZING Qumulys!!!!
-
-
-
Your evil plan failed! 😀
It was all your cohort’s fault. He had pity on my pups and put torches with them so they could see. But the torches quickly gave away their location to me when I noticed smoke coming up through the floor…
Nice try though
P.S. goggies rool 😛-
Confound my kindness! It’ll be the undoing of me yet!
-
Bit of a sale on at JB until Sunday, guys and gals 🙂
Everyone, you can have your high fives back. I still havent gotten around to starting Link to the Past :'(
(But it’s all I’m thinking about)
-
I owned that game on advance and my dickhead mate lost it while clubbing in the valley. WHO the HELL takes a gameboy to a club? REALLY! Lucky I didnt lend him my gameboy.
I took payment by taking his FF7 because for some reason I never bought a copy…prolly cos all my mates did.-
With all this Street Pass stuff, 3DS gonna be all up in the clubs! Your mate was just ahead of his time…
-
I took my 3DS to a pub, we basically sat around drawing things using the note-taking function thing. Good time were had.
Okay, it was mostly memes, and genitalia. Particularly a dickwolf. But still.
-
Nah, just an alcho!
-
-
I hate Twitter spam. It’s like every word I type on there is marked by an army of evil spambots ‘offering’ me different promotions and freebies that have nothing to do with those words.
UGH.
-
Really? I’ve heard of others speak of this twitter spambots, but I havent encountered them. Maybe I’m not popular enough :'(
-
The best I have is one follower who I don’t know, so I’m considering my twitter a relative failcess! (yes, that wording indicates that a “suc” is some kind of thing, that indicates completion of a task in a satisfactory manner)
-
Just cos we ain’t following don’t mean we ain’t watching. 🙂
If i check twitter mainly for Blaghmans purported wankery, does this make me a wanker?????????????-
Oh, I have other followers, I was just amazed at the one who I don’t know, who’s tweeted like 12 times…
-
Doesn’t answer my question though?? 🙂
-
I think you already know the answer.
-
Spewin 🙁
-
heeeeeeeeeeeeeeee…
-
-
-
Mention certain topics and you’ll run into the spambots very quickly. It helps if you pay attention to mentions, if you don’t then you’re only going to see the ones that follow you apparently at random.
Some topics that I know attract spammers are Xbox 360s, PS3, iPhones and writing. Topics that I happen to mention often on Twitter.
-
I get the “writing” one every few days. Kinda amusing, but annoying.
If the Lizzies Twitter tag spambotting taught me anything, it’s that everyone need Viagra.
EVERYONE
EVEN YOU
-
SHUTUP IT’S A SERIOUS PROBLEM *RUNS OFF CRYING*
Sorry, I shouldn’t make jokes about it… pffft.
Fun fact, Viagra is shown to have positive effects on both Males and Females who have normal sexual function. But only because it works as a placebo.
-
Not the greatest of musical acts…
-
Finally clears up the androgeny of the lead singer though.
-
-
I have not encountered these spambots… but I do have a couple of weird people following me – all while I can’t even get Mark and Elly to follow me! :'(
-
Dude I literally thought I was following you. Didn’t realise I wasn’t!
Now following!
-
That’s okay, I was only playin’ – I don’t feel emotion and mock-distress is the only one I can portray with any believable accuracy… *sob*
-
You know David Bowie signed them??
Most embarrasing thing he ever did, and I’ve seen Labrynth! -
D’oh! Wrong comment!
-
Ok, I’m stumped. 🙂
What were you trying to reply to…. -
The one above…the placebo one!
-
-
I don’t think Mark follows me either 🙁 My heart, it bleeds like a… unicorn?
-
All just by mistake! Going to follow you now!
-
Maaaaaaark… can you follow me too? Pretty please? I need friends :'(
@KramsDesign
-
Again, for some stupid reason I assumed I was following you.
Done.
-
Yesssssss!
-
So I’ve started getting coffee from Pour Boy on Wharf St (in Brisbane for those playing at home), instead of the place I usually go in the mornings.
The coffee is fantastic. Not the best I’ve ever had but consistently up there as pretty bloody brilliant. The big downside seems to be that the caffeine crash seems to be a lot harsher than most other places I’ve gone to.
When I go to Coffee Laboratory, I down two Flat Whites in about an hour or two and feel great the rest of the day. When I go to my usual place, I have a Flat White first thing in the morning and I’m good for the rest of the day, although sometimes I need a little bit of a top up at lunch with a coke or some tea.
I had some coffee from Pour Boy this morning around 9:30 and now I’m feeling almost as sluggish as I did last night when I got home.
This is disappointing.
-
I find I can’t enjoy coffee no matter the quality. It’s just far to bitter for my tastes. It’s a shame because the caffine hit would really help get me up in the mourning.
-
Just do what I do, connect an IV drip filled with caffeine to yourself. You’ll never have to sleep again!

-
I just keep drinking water. I usually have a can of coke at lunch but the rest of the time WATER!
Water is amazing, sooooooooo ggod!
-
Water, like out of a toilet?
-
Of course…Nukem taught me well!
-
HP+5, Rad+2?
-
-
I didn’t really want to join the endless quest for the perfect coffee, so I’ve never had a cup.
Water all the way! It’s weird how good it makes you feel. 🙂
-
Yeah but then you have too much water and your belly feels all full, but you still want more! The body is never satisfied.
-
-
What about Vitaminwater?? Water + Vitamins = Marketing Genious!!! 😉
-
HP+5, Rad+2

TWITTERZ IS STEALING THE TAY!! SUGHLY JUST TWEETED IT! The sky prophecy is coming true! Birds, clouds, sky!
SEE!
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h17/CloudoftheFallen/notay.jpg
Conspiracy!
-
That is funny!… really funny.
-
So now I have to play Minecraft AND get a twitter account if I want to keep up with you guys?
*shakes head muttering something about kids these days and their technologies* -
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
-
LOL! I was thinking… is this photoshopped? whats the deal. Wait, thats the parliament house, so… ta… ah yep. Very clever.
-
Actually not a photoshop! When I saw the pic I was like, oh… wow! ROFL! The governments is shutting us down! Noooo!
-
Imagine it now, Tony Abbott and Angry Anderson barge into the Kotaku offices, Abbott in speedos thrusting his groin in everyone’s faces, and Angry Anderson threatening to sing.
-
SSSSSSSuuuuuuuudddenly, every part of me *wink* seems to know, every part of you *slutty smile*

So. Sorry Sir-Eats-Alot but I want to provide some clarity to the guys attending the sydney meet up.
I am proposing that we meet up at 12 noon on Sat 16th April (This Sat).
The venue I’m proposing is the Grand Hotel
Level 2 (Ground floor, Level 1, Level 2)
30 Hunter Street, Sydney
I think there is a lift?
I will try to get in a little earlier to set up if anyone is around let me know. Best to use twitter to get the latest details
@fatshadylive
I am planning on taking an xbox 360 and a couple of controllers. If anyone has games they want to bring then feel free. We have one plasma (106cm) that we can use but I will be doing my best to only get you all playing Trials HD.
Once there, we can organise pizza from the local pizza places as lunch is NOT being offered. Drinks must be bought from the ground floor so I suggest buying a couple of them before you go upstairs.
Site link:
http://www.merivale.com/#/thegrand/thegrandbar
I have booked the third level. I have booked this with a guy called Dan Campbell so if you have any issues, he should know about it.
-
Dont want this to get lost above but yes Strange i’ll pick you up from the airport if you need it. I live in south west sydney so have to drive straight past the airport anyway… not a big deal to stop by. What time?
Just drop me an e-mail to
claimsboy at hotmail dot com
if you want a lift… Seriously don’t hesitate to take me up on the offer. Just not sure it will be and if i can make it?
-
Wow.
Thanks so much, but I’ll be okay. I have a friend who’ll pick me up from the airport if I decide I can’t face the train, anyway. But again, thanks for offering!
-
-
Does anyone know approximately how long it would take to walk to Circular Quay from this Hotel?
-
It’s slightly up hill, so allow for that lol.
It would take about 10 minutes. Straight up Pitt Street then turn right. Or straight up George Street, then turn left at hunter…
Easy.
-
Sorry, re-read your post…
To walk FROM this hotel to Circ Quay would be 9 minutes (down hill!!!). It is a straight and easy walk.
-
-
It’s probably around 1km.
-
Not long, doing an eyeball judgement on Google maps, the hotel is about one klick from the Sydney Opera House, and less so to the Quay’s center.
-
Awesome. Then this venue is kind of perfect for me and I’ll definitely be able make it.
-
-
I am jelly…
-
I’ve only got carry-on so I can’t even squish you into my luggages. Sorry….
-
I wish I had time to squeeze into some luggage!
-
-
jelly x2
-
No kidding! You have a whole level of reserved…? Xbox?! GAH! No fair :'(
-
We could do this…if we had any time…which we don’t…
-
-
Also jellied.
It’s worse because 2 years ago I lived a brisk 20min walk from there 🙁
-
-
Kotaku has this big builing in Sydney, somewhere on circular quay.
It’s got to have a boardroom, and some consoles… and a budget for food and drinks.
Elly could even do beer runs.If you promise not to break Marks trophies… he may let you play there… you could even touch Seamus’s hair.
-
NO-ONE touches the hair. No-one.
-
Hahaha
…now that I think about it, didn’t Seamus say he was getting a haircut last week – did that happen or am I imagining things? :\
-
-
-
Turns out I am working this weekend. Verry sad to miss the meet up.
-
Mate can I just say thanks so much for doing this. It’s going to be freaking awesome.
I’ll be at EB Games first in case we get some people going there first, then I’ll walk over.
You have my email address, hit me up if there’s any problems.
well.. it’s official! welbot IT is a reality!! It has been approved and I have a certificate to prove it! w00t!
-
Wooooooooooooooooooop!!!
-
Let the feast of a thousand hams commence!
-
Awesome news! I wonder if Mark/Kotaku could let you slip in a little advertising??
-
Awesome, congrats!
-
wow! a fellow polycounter on Kotaku! how long you been lurking for? 😉
-
-
Grats welbot, best of luck
I have been waiting all day to get on this site, I have had the boss looking over my shoulder ebvery five minutes, and when I finally get a few minutes of peace, a client walks in!
But now I have finally made it, I actually have five minutes to proclaim, announce and generally pontificate the glourious and majestic wonders that I have wished to share with you all..
Damn it I can’t think of anything!
-
HI!
-
You’re a barbarian, just roar a bit and wave a club around.
-
Get back to work!
-
You too! Now get me my lolcats for the day, pronto!
-
It’s the chain of command: http://kramsdesign.com/misc/kotaku/barbarians.jpg
MARK EDIT: THIS IS POST 1000!
-
YES!! 😀
I’m so happy! *wipes tear*
-
Nice. The picture was cool to. 🙂
-
I’ll second that as the best 1000th post ever, brilliant pic! I’m gonna be childish and mention the last barbarian has a doodle! :-O
-
I had to look again because I hadn’t remembered seeing one the first time around. After you drew my attention to it though, I was giggling and thinking that one must be Hugo the Hung Barbarian.
Oh, and my son climbed up to see what was funny and said “Mummy! You looking at monsters!”.
-
Haha, you should have said ‘no, they are my friends from Kotaku’.
-
-
-
-
Best 1000th post ever?
-
Yes.
Let the record show, of the thousandsth I can remember, we have two TadMod’s, and a Sughly. I just need to immortalise them in fake trophy.
Wow, I didn’t realise we had cameras in here.
At least it got my good side
Also Sughly, that is such a perfect rendering of both me and my workplace, I’m getting it framed to hang up at work, might also have to distribute around the clan.
I will dedicate the next Barbarian Battle to you.
YESSS! I took care to note how the arm puffs get bigger depending on your rank.
I’m working I’m working I swear.. please no.. not the axe.. please not the axe again…
NOOOOOOOOOOO…
YOU GET BACK TO WORK!
So why are you here and not working on what I’m paying you to do!? (whatever that is)
You too, slacker!!
-
Is it me or Kotaku doing these strange things?
-
It depends… are you Hugo’s boss’ boss?
-
I figure it’s because we’re getting close to the magical 1000 posts. Could even be this one?
-
Or potentially this one?
-
And if this isn’t post 1000, then I just don’t care. I never wanted the award anyway *sniff*
-
-
-
-
By Odin’s Beard, how many bosses have I got checking up on me.
To all the various levels of supervisors and management checking up on me… this is all work related I swear…Guys back me up here…
um guys…
-
Yes, I agree.
I am actually, uhhh, Eric… The Viking, who is located in the… office space area right… near… Hugo the Hungarian Barbarian.Yes. He is working hard.
-
PILLAGE!!!!

-
Attn: James Mac.
When can I drop my “the damned” tag? Friday?
Wait! OH NO! RESIST THE URGE HINDEN. DON’T SING IT! DON’T SING FRIDAY!
Everyone else don’t even think it or I’ll be damned forever!
-
I tried to think of the most harmless thing. Something I loved from my childhood. Something that could never ever possibly destroy us. Mr. Stay Puft!
-
No!
I have a plan dammit!
I fully intend for new visitors to come to the site in a few years and ask why this poor Hinden bloke is damned.
-
Funny story – tonight, Hinden is dressing up as Satan…
-
Geez Cracks, can’t a man have a little bit of privacy these days!?
-
Not when he keeps mentioning that infernal ‘song’.
-
-
-
Ah eternal damnation is it?
I suppose the punishment suits the crime.
All because I was a little over-excited about Dynasty Warriors 7 🙁
-
So lately i feel all i am posting is of the comics i read to jimu and mr used my handle, not anymore gosh darn it, i have other things to say. I am having a wierd week, i went to tafe a hour away from home and find out my tafe teacher has jury duty for half the week and is going to pass the whole class no matter what, but i still have to rock up there for 4 hours a day just sitting and talking gah. my internets is broken besides my phone so i can’t plays the minecraft, sob. that is all
Psst, psst JImu i finished reading green arrow year one and started reading the dark knight returns. So far liking dark knight a different sort of art style but good none theless. Also ordering daredevil yellow and hulk grey.
-
Am tempted to read some Green Arrow, was torn between Year One and Quiver… Did you like it?
-
Loved it year one was really good. I read up on wikipedia before hand and it was a really good story also really cheap on book depository. I also gonna buy quiver cause it’s cheap.
-
quiver also good, even if it is written by Kevin “can’t finish a comic on time” Smith
-
I have just found out how sheltered and poncy my school really was.
My sister is currently doing substitution teaching at Lyneham High school, here in Canberra, and wow. Her students are little shits. While teaching today, she confiscated, among many other things, a soccer ball, two basketballs, and two tennis balls. Because they were being thrown around the class. What the hell were these students doing? The worst we ever did to a sub was answer to other people’s names on the role! Where did they learn to be so annoying?
Gah, and I know that, since this is Canberra, this is all nothing compared to what some others have to deal with.
-
Man, my school in Glasgow was insane. And that during the 90s. Can’t imagine what those little bastards are like now.
-
Same, we thought “turning somebody’s pencil case inside out” was badass. Or answering to the wrong name.
-
Year 8, in Japanese, a guy brought in some condoms to class: he was acting all tough and big-time because we had a substitute teacher. Then she caught him, he gave her a fake name but the class only had about 12 people and everyone knew who he was – as opposed to looking like a ladies man, he became a laughing stock… the whole thing was hilarious.
Then, year 10, a guy brought in the most awesome pocket knife I’ve ever seen (and it was massive – technically, I’m not sure it was a pocket knife) and was showing off… but he was an arsehole and constantly getting into fights, so I may or may not’ve casually told a teacher “Woah… did you see [the guy]’s sweet knife?!” which may or may not’ve got him suspended for a week (I really didn’t like him)
Add to that people smashing the U-bend out of all the toilets, smoking and drinking on school grounds and what not…
…and my school wasn’t too bad – try deeper into c’town. You haven’t lived, man!
-
Oh, my school had the occasional knife, people smoking weed every lunch, the occasional drunk student on school grounds, but all those were dealt with very harshly by the school (Not the weed, the school didn’t care, and it wasn’t really every lunch, usually during frees). In class though, we were extremely respectful the majority of the time, but that may have been because we had really good teachers. Who were terrifying.
The Year 12 class a few years above mine cost the school thousands of dollars in one day though. For muck-up day, they decided to turn the quad into a beach, or snow, one of the two, and used lots of those little foam balls. And they got all through the schools plumbing. They got in so much shit for that.
Anyway, back to the point, I was just amazed that all of this, as minor as it was, happened in ONE DAY!
-
I spent two years of woodwork playing handball – in the workshop, across the tables and quite often around obstacles… yet I still managed to build a bookcase, phone table and… something else I can’t quite remember.
True story.
Despite doing silly & dangerous things like that, I was always pretty respectful of teachers (even the ones who’re idiots) – we were the first year group to go through our school (so, year 7 to 12, we were the first and oldest students) ’cause it was new. In year 8 a group of girls were harassing an Indian sub. (mock accent, etc.) until she fled the classroom (and school) in tears.
And things could only’ve gotten worse, because they have a lot of trouble getting subs. in now to replace sick teachers.
-
Yeah, now that I think about it, when we were in year 8 (I think) a class did make a sub cry, but because it was a private school the subs were actually on the payroll, not just randoms brought in. Luckily we grew up. I’m aware of just how lucky I’ve been, I went to what is probably the best high school/college in Canberra,

My daddy is a hikeskool teacher. He moved up from the wordt school in Pert to the second wordt and is happy cos noone called him c*nt this year(so far)!
Not sure if this has been posted before… but you’ll WANT to watch this version of Friday:
-
SO GOOD! Gotta love Colbert.
Sughly, I have to confess something, I started wandering through the depths of your website, guided only by a text UI, looking through parent directories. And ummm, am I allowed to ask what this is?
http://kramsdesign.com/misc/busmag.jpg
It made me laugh, and that was even lacking in context.
-
LOL! Yeeeaah, that was Emmy Cicierega (@EmmyCic on twitter) put up a challenge to draw a pic using ‘magic’ and ‘businessmen’. It was what I came up with. Good times.
I have a stalker! Woo!
-
I’m sorry Sughly, but I kind of do this to every website. If I find myself looking at an image, I’ll typically start going through directories, flicking through things. While you’re not that special for having it happen, yours was probably the most fun, I found a few Kotaku pictures I’d missed, which was good.
-
-
today i had to walk (no looking back) very, very deep and far into the very bad end of town: the kind of place that makes you wish you were somewhere else.
But the good thing about the very bad end of town is that it helps you appreciate the cold hard truth that the Sughly unicorn is a very, very special thing.
i look at this and think that sometimes everything sucks and everywhere is Suckville, but when you’re on a Sughly brand unicorn then life is rolling all blue skies and swimmingly – like drinking from the same strawberry milkshake as Miranda Kerr and Irina Shayk . . . on a yacht . . . near a waterfall . . . at sunset . . . Tom Cruise is sailing us somewhere off the charts . . . somewhere off the hook . . . no looking back.
Sughly brand unicorns: the escape for those moments when the bad end of town is all there is.
-
Words can’t describe how much I love this. Actually that’s not true, the only person who would know such words though would be you, dear sir. God bless Plainview.
-
Tom Cruise?…
Ewwww…
-
Tom Cruise? What? Did I just quote him or something? It was unintentional, I swear!!
-
You were right to quote Tom Cruise, Sughly, it’s the only way J. Mac will learn that he loves Tom Cruise, but he just doesn’t know it yet.
Don’t worry, soon J. Mac will find his true feelings for Tom Cruise are very different than he first imagined; this kind of dangerous, exaggerated cognitive misinterpretation of feelings is all too common in people who don’t love Tom Cruise as much as you and me.
Serving sandwiches and tea at the Tom Cruise Fan Club Convention all weekend long (i’m dressed as Maverick!!!),

is funeeeeeeeeeee
Has anyone else noticed just how talented the street-performers at Circular Quay are? There was a guy on a bike on a metal pole making a baloon animal. There was another aboriginal guy playing 5 (or maybe even 7) instruments he made himself (out of bottles, bin lids, etc… at the same time.
Wow. It makes me feel useless. XD
My school had napalm in the toilets (well, styrofoam & petrol), pet mice (Coolo & Cukic. They lived in a hole under a bin, fully equipped with wheel, water bottle, etc.), and man traps (douchebags from the year below me. My mate still has a massive scar up his leg from where the sheet metal sliced up his shin/calf).
-
One of the students at my school was a certifiable genius… and the school kept him around because he kept winning some state science prize, and he brought in good sponsorship money. Being exceptionally clever, he got bored very easily and, having easy access to the science labs, he got up to all kinds of chemistry related misdeeds.
Every so often, around 3 in the afternoon, when the students were getting bored and thinking about going home… he’d blow up a locker.
-
That was meant to be a reply to the “at my school we drank our techer’s blood” thread.
New Asinine Circus strip is up.
Now to try and finish my review for tomorrow.
-
DVDA??
Eeee! LittleJJ let me buy zee Kinect tonight!! weeee!! JB Had a great deal! I thought it was great anyway.. kinect sensor, dance central, sonic free riders and Kintect adventures for $229! I’ve been telling her about dance central for a while now, so I think it was the inclusion of that, that swayed the decision! w00t!
So, I just started watching “The Hero of Time” the fan made movie, which I, ahem, acquired via the interwebs, and it’s certainly interesting. I’m wondering if they’ve ever heard what a pom sounds like in their lives, and the background images used over a green screen are atrocious, but it’s kind of fun. The music is great, and Ganondorf looks great. I’ll be able to give a recommendation over whether or not you should watch it when I’m done, but it’s certainly chilling in the positive experience area.

Follow me on Twitter for more if you haven’t already!
And this was the announcement I was talking about earlier. 😀

Awesome!!
One single life. Died on level 7. How did you go??
-
Level 4. 1 million heart attacks.
-
hehe.. got one (more) life and that was all i needed…. Level 10 complete!
Good news everybody!
Well, those of you who play on the minecraft server anyway.
The road between workers monument/barracks and the mining camp/residential district is now connected.
It’s not quite finished but it can now be to travel between the two areas (or anywhere in between) with relative safety.
I’d like to thank everyone who contributed, including but not limited to anyone who planted tree farms. Odds are I’ve harvested from your farm at least once.
Now, sleep!
I’d like to thank everyone who contributed, including but not limited to anyone who planted tree farms. Odds are i’ve harvested from your farm atleast once.
Dammit, I tried to get that review done for tomorrow but it just isn’t happening. I decided that I needed to reach a certain point in the game before I could be 100% that my memories of the game were accurate (they were) but once I got there, I realised I was pretty much at the end so decided to just finish the thing.
Then I got stuck and it is 9:30pm, I’m tired and there’s still too much to write.
Also, there’s another mode that I completely forgot to explore. Giving myself a week to play this game to completion clearly wasn’t enough time. Dangit. I had such high hopes that I could pull this off.
-
Nooooooo!!!
I’ve been going nuts all week trying to figure out what secret game you’re playing and now I have to wait longer?! *sobs* So cruel.P.S. Don’t feel sorry for me and tell me, I hate spoilers. 😛
-
This is the problem with working full time, I just haven’t been able to manage my time well enough to finish the game and play the other mode.
I’m going to try and finish everything up over the weekend. So if I keep my schedule for Buttercup going as normal, I’ll probably put this up on Tuesday now. Probably.
How do game reviewers find the time for this sort of thing? I’m playing a relatively short game here.
-
Well, game reviewers typically do it as a full time job, so they can play it while at work.
And don’t worry Trjn, I’m unemployed, and have all the free time in the world, yet I still find it difficult to dedicate myself to talking at a camera for five minutes every week.
-
Something I’ve always found weird is that the more free time I have, the less I manage to get done.
I think it’s because I know that I can put things off until much later, so I can laze about watching random crap instead of doing what I’m meant to be doing.
Procrastination is an art that I mastered long ago, now I need to unmaster it.

So, I’m currently considering (which I’ve been doing for about 7 years or so) getting a Tattoo. Obviously since I’m a colossal nerd, I need to get something suitably nerdy as a tattoo, but it’s weird. I want something fairly simple and not… well, embarrassingly nerdy. If I’m going to permanently mark my body, it’s going to be something that has had an impact on my life or shaped my personality somehow. Not going to chuck Sephiroth on my back or any other stuff like that. (Even though a hello kitty mech suit tattoo would be SWEET.)
Just wondering if anyone else has had a tattoo done before, and what was it like. Biggest and most asked question would be “Does it hurt”, but what was it like afterwards? How does it heal, how long, how do you care for it, etc.
As for what I’m thinking of, I honestly don’t know and probably won’t know for a good few months or so. I could go totally nerd out (for me) and get an artful hidden blade on my wrist with “Requiescat in pace” around it. Dr Manhattan’s symbol on the back of my neck, zombie bite marks on my shoulder, I really don’t know. I’ve just wanted to get a tattoo for ages but never really acted on it.
Then again, this could just be me rambling from lack of sleep.
-
I’ve got no tattoo’s myself, but my boss got in to them in the year before he closed the business. His description of the pain was “imagine someone heats up a fork, and then scrapes it down your arm!” hahaha As for care, usually you keep them covered for a while, and try not to get them wet. All that will be covered in detail by the artist though, and more than likely, they will give you, or recommend some kind of ointment to rub in to it.
-
The Jolly Roger!
You can’t go wrong with the good ole skull an bones.
Besides, who can’t say that pirates haven’t had some significant impact on their lives at some stage.-
Agree.
-
-
Get all of those tattoos, they’re all awesome ideas.
I have a smallish tattoo on the inside of my forearm, it didn’t hurt, was more tickly, itchy and annoying.
After care from what I remember (it was 14-ish years ago) was keeping it out of the sun, and applying a cream like Bepanthen.. I think it took a week or two to heal but I honestly can’t remember.
One of the most important things though is to choose your artist carefully. Have a look at their previous work to see if you like it, and if possible have a chat with them to see if they’ll understand your vision. If you see someone around with a tattoo you like, stop them and ask where they got it from. Also, travelling to a different state to find the right artist for you could be something to consider.-
I’m really keen on my wrist idea, but the fact is my workplace wouldn’t be too keen on visible tattoo’s. I could get away with a back of the neck one or any on my shoulders / biceps, since they’re easily covered.
Just don’t want the man ratting on my tattoo’s, bro. Totally not gnarly.
http://thedarkblade.com/wp-content/uploads/assassins-creed-retractable-knife_1.jpg
Something like that, but with some clockwork gears around it and it piercing a strip of parchment with the words on it. Shit, I could probably choose any number of Assassin’s Creed quotes.
Il piacere immeritato si consuma da sé (Pleasure unearned consumes itself)
-
-
I like the bite marks idea myself, because it may not even obviously be a tattoo. You could tell people it’s a gangrenous wound in certain circumstances (such as job interviews). 🙂
-
This tattoo talk made me look for pictures of Demon’s Souls’ Maiden in Black because I’ve often thought she’d be a great tattoo and while I was looking, I found a pretty cool blog about the Lore in Demon’s Souls.

A limerick for my love:
A McMuffin with sausage and egg
to which the question does beg
Questionable meat and cheese that is plastic
(which I might add, tastes rather fantastic)
Why does Serrels look so much like Pegg?
…That was going so well until I ran out of things that rhymed with “egg” and “beg” =(
-
“Much better than eating your leg.”
Or if you’re after a weaker rhyme:
“I pity those sods on Jenny Craig.”
-
Not to be picky, but aren’t lines three and four supposed to be five syllable each?
-
Yeah but I was too wrapped up in eating my delicious breakfast.
My love for food doesn’t need to play by the rules!-
He makes rhymes, he loves breakfast, and he doesn’t play by the rules. This Summer, get ready for something truly… Bisharre!
…
…
I really need to stop doing this.
-
-
Gonna setup my kinect today!! LittleJJ is psyched for a big dance off tonight! :0 I’m fearful she will spend more time laughing at me than playing though! :0 PREPARE FOR TEH SUCK!
-
play that funky music, white boy!
KOTAKU AU SYDNEY MEETUP
FATSHADY MBA LOOK HERE AT MY PANTS.
Cool, now that I have your attention ;P
Fatshady MBA your idea is freaking awesome. I’ve sent you an email, maybe we could talk more details? *winks in a non-suspicious fashion*
I think the suggestion that we meet up at EBGames and walk over to the venue will make it easier. So yeah, lets do that.
Also sorry for the delayed response to all of this, I hadn’t had a chance to read through TAY in THREE DAYS so I just shifted through 500 posts to find the relevant ones. Gah.
Eat a lot.
-
Which EB was it again?
Also anyone who has a 3DS must bring it. I need streeet pass hitzzzzzz.
-
Awesome see ya there Mark!
It’s at EB Games on George St.
linkity link – http://bit.ly/gWlhwU
I believe it is near the apple store. If anybody gets lost on the day/needs help/panic mode I’m offering my number here in anti-spam/stalker format:
oh four one three five one one oh seven one.
I haven’t been this excited since Dragon Age 2 came out!
-
-
I’ll be going straight to the venue. It’s easier for me that way. Although not as easy to leave before anyone notices me if I think you’re all scary….
-
yeah me too…
Im trying to get there early so i can set up things. I’ll see you there.
-
-
So who’s going?
I have a family thing maybe (plus, family are pretty good at short notice) so I may or may not be there.
Maybe I should try weasel out better. Weaseling out of things is what separates us from the animals.
Except the weasel.-
From my count
Dawdle

Mark
Me!
You – you gotta waesel!
Sir Eats alot
Batguy?Anyone else coming?
-
Mr. MadTod?
Weasel, Bishy, weasel. You know you want to….
-
P.S. It’s kinda cool that us girls are even more important in that list than Mark Serrels!
-
-
Do we want to ask others in perhaps what are you playing this weekend thread to come along??? or is this a special TAY thing?
-
MOOOARRRR PEOPLEEEE
Everybody on Kotaku is invited. Everyone!
-
Yeah, invite more Kotaku peoples so it’s not just 4 or 5 people sitting around awkwardly going “So. I heard you liek gamez…”
-
I would come as well, but I’m not in Sydney. I don’t have hyperdrive or jetpack engines installed on my chassis yet to get there… HURRY UP R&D!
-
this
-
-
-
I’m interested
I’ll be there with bells on. Either that or a Zelda shirt.
Going to go straight to the venue.
I’ve got a hole in my jeans.
So we made a film about it.
-
heh, you got some lolz outta me 😀
-
Haha! Awesome title sequence, really slick and well made.
-
Thanks!
This other time we were at an Alpaca farm.
So we made a film about it.
-
A funny little thing happened last night when I started to play the game I’m reviewing.
When I loaded up the game, the menu music was different. It was this very simple but elegant piece of music that seemed incredibly appropriate. When I got into the game, the music continued and it still fit pretty well with what I was doing in-game at the time.
Then I realised that I had accidentally turned my BluRay player on and the music was actually the menu music for Primer.
It’s funny because I really enjoy the music in this game and this song didn’t seem entirely out of place.
-
When I was younger I was playing FFVIII on our old (ancient) TV. There’s a scene where a mechanical dragon, or something like that, comes walking down a cliff (hazy memory). Anyway, at that point the TV started to fizzle out, but all the crackling and buzzing fit pretty well with what was on screen.
It wasn’t until there was a big ‘POP’ and a big puff of smoke rose out of the TV that I realised something was wrong.-
Best special effects ever.
-
-
I remember when I first started playing GTA III San Andreas, I was driving around playing with the radio stations, when suddenly Metallica came!
Wow! I thought it was great that they had also included some recent music in the game.
I am extremely embarrassed to think of how long it took me to realise that it wasn’t part of the game, instead it was playing music already saved on the Xbox.-
-
… i love you, man
-
Wow another perfect rendering of my workplace.
Are you stalking me… cause that would be awesome. -
Does that pirate URL end with a .arg ?
If so, you are somehow even more awesome-r than you were 5 minutes ago!-
Haha, yeah I was hoping someone would pick it up. Success!
-
-
-
Hey, guess what today is everybody!
http://www.youtu-*ZZZZTTT*
*PC blue-screens in a fit of rage against lamboman*
-
that must be the only video on youtube with over 2,000,000 DISLIKES!!1
I’ve never seen anything like it.If i were her, i would never show my face in public, ever EVER again. Regardless of the day of the week that it may or may not be.
I still can’t believe Foxtel is calling the Buffy marathon “TrueBuff”. Buffy is so much better than True Blood, deserves it OWN title, and the fact they didn’t call it “Slayerfest” is just retarded.
-
+ 1
Even though I like True Blood, it’s not really anything like Buffy. And regardless, “TrueBuff” is ridiculous-sounding.-
TureBuff makes me think of a body builder show, a bunch of twats with brains the size of their shrunken testicles competing to see who can do the most meaningless macho task.
-
Actually, I’m not sure what TureBuff makes me think…
TrueBuff*
-
-
-
Joss Whedon > Alan Ball.
That is all. -
It made me so angry that I sent an angry email to Sci Fi, won’t somebody think of the children!!!
-
*nerd rage boils*
Ok so buffy got crap in the last couple of series’… but to compare it to true blood in a marathon title?? that is just… appalling!
I’m kind of sick of these new age vampires taking over and ruining it for everyone…
Oh yeh, another thing. I tried to watch a preview for the new Supernatural episode, and it just said “Content is not available in your region.”
WTF it’s the internet, just let me watch the freakin video!
-
Whoo – fellow Supernatural fan!
I hate this region-based crap too, ‘specially if I’m trying to watch SNL or something off NBC/Hulu.
…and while it was good when Eleven started showing the more recent ones [Supernatural] again, it went a bit crazy and they were on at about 1am… so I’ve taken to downloading them when I’ve got the time to watch it.
-
Hell yeh! It’s one of my favourite shows. We have always just downloaded it and then bought the dvds when they came out. Who can be bothered waiting for it to come on Aus tv!
Season 6 is much better than I thought it would be, and they will most likely do a Season 7. The next episode should be cool, but the one after could be the best episode ever! Next episode is out tomorrow!!
-
Me again .. Big ass update for TF2!
Weapon stats changed, maps changed, you can now vote to kick players and … no new hats!!
I miss Nier.
Why did I not think to get the DLC? Now my save-files are gone because I viewed the last ending and apparently you need to be a fairly high level for the DLC Bosses.
-
I actually picked this up the other day, just started and my first quest was to beat up poor defenceless sheep… at least I thought they were defenceless untill they started kicking me all across the map.
I didn’t even realise there was DLC for this, though due to my severe beating at the hoofs of these sheep, I may put off purchasing it for a while.-
Once I got the Dark Hand, I’d just run around beating those sheep to death with my magic fist. Being kicked by a sheep was not fun. Oh, and stay away from goats, they’re worse. They get angry just looking at you.
-
I like the fact that with Dark Lance at wherever I’m up to is powerful enough to kill the boars in one go. Sweet revenge for the five minute battle it took to kill the first one!
-
-
Just a reminder that the Friday only sale is on on XBLA right now. Im getting Limbo for 600 mspoints.. Trials HD is also 600.
Also, Mark or anyone who enjoyed Trials HD, the BIG THRILLS DLC is available for 240 points and it an absolute steal for 40 more tracks. Some really fun and interesting ones… just remingin you all.
-
Thanks for the heads up! Going to get the add on NOW! 😀 😀
The… pedometer-thing with the 3DS – anyone noticed it’s not very accurate?
When I take 10 steps, it counts 23-25 everytime. I’m not particularly hefty… in fact, I’m tall and’ve a pretty lanky walk – am I doing something wrong or is there something wrong with my 3DS? Should I return it under warranty? (lol)
-
The pedometer is super inaccurate.
-
Mine’s working fine
-
This was one of those times where I laughed and then stopped myself, thinking “what the hell is wrong with me?!!”
-
The image that does that for me is this:
http://cdn1.knowyourmeme.com/i/3307/original/why_so_basement.jpg?1244613279I see it , I laugh, and then I really worry about myself.
-
I don’t get it.
I recognise the 60s joker with photoshpped modern paint and the modern line …basement?
-
It’s not the joker.
That’s the Fritzel dude who kept his family in the basement.
Joke would have been funnier with the tagline:
Why so cellerous?
-
That’s Fritzl, the guy who locked his daughter in his basement.
-
-
-
So I just spent my whole lunch hour trying to track down a copy of Trauma Centre: Under the Knife 2. Nobody has it, very few stores were aware it even existed.
Dangit. Why did I lost my old copy?
This could be interesting.
-
Oh yeah, I forgot I was gonna start a convo on this. Kotaku, like, TOTALLY linked this this morning. Cant believe it took until 1pm. No excitement? I cant help but have my hopes up! (but I am a tragic fanboy…)
-
I missed the story the first time around. It was off of the front page when I got online this morning and I don’t really go check what was posted overnight much.
I’m not really excited, but I am intrigued.
Assuming that they are planning on being profitable on every unit sold, I would think that it would be at least as powerful as the PS3. Which is a pretty reasonable standard, even if that technology is somewhat dated now.
The only problem is third party support. That’s been the downfall of the Wii for gamers this generation as only the first and second party games are really worth playing, the rest range from meh to shovelware. If Nintendo can get the same level of third party support that MS and Sony have in the next generation, then that’s it. Game over, Nintendo wins.
-
-
Nintendo Exec: “Great news everyone! The new Wii 2 will STILL feature games that look like they’ve come straight from a Gamecube, BUT we’ve added awesome new ankle controls that will put our customers back on top of the “who can flail about like an epileptic chased by bees better” list, over the Kinect.”
oh… it’s meant to be HD???
well bum…-
Bahahaha!
Tis funny cos it’s true! 🙂
I’ve never really cared for the wii, and all the good games (TvsC, Monsterhunter, Goldeneye)seem to need a controller anyway…
That being said all they need to do is remake a Zelda in HD and everyone should be happy…
Yes i’m bagging Ocarina getting re release. It’s awesome don’t get me wrong, but how sweet would a new Zelda have been as a launch title…. would have made me buy a 3DS…
-
-
They should just turn back to gamecube in my opinion, my brother has the Wii and I just never liked it. Only one game I liked and that was super smash bros brawl
-
Meh.
Call me when the Sega Master System III is announced.-
It’ll never happen now that MS make their own console, but I want a Dreamcast 2.
-
I have spread my dreams under your feet,
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.-
Then I shall hold dear and worship the very ground I walk on… like everyone else worships ground I walk on.

Im not an FPS man at all… but a few friends have been at me to get batlefield BC2 for ages. Ive been playing 1943 (XBLA) and enjoy that, but I didn’t want to spend too much on it. Best i could find was ozgame for $37.
Today, while checking out JB sale.. found a pre owned version that once you add the discount was a total of $15.50!!!! Going to get it tonight.
Awesome!

Made my friday!!!!
I promise it is in no way “Friday” related.
-
hehe i saw that the other day! They so need to make a new transformers series using those models! That’d be ace!
-
Love it! 🙂
I really wanted to see someone make something like this using garry’s mod in Half-life 2 using headcrab zombies. Those claws just make it so full of win!
-
Sir, I am forever in your debt…
-
Gold!!
-
Probably the most awesome thing I’ve seen all day.
-
Day = Made
From the bottom of my heart, i thank you, sir

Their hips sway in a very ‘come hither’ manner. No wonder you boys are so obsessed.
Just saw these Gizmodo trivia thingamajigs via Elly on twitter…
Looks cool! But… we’re not from Gizmodo. We’re from Kotakuuuu. Are Kotaku people going too? I feel like I would be invading them (again), but this time without the protection of anonymity 🙁

Link for the lazy: http://www.meetup.com/Gizmodo-Australia/link g

GAH! I was too quick (or stupid) for the post system! Try again: http://www.meetup.com/Gizmodo-Australia
-
Damn these highly organized technology types!! If we all weren’t so busy playing video games, reading comics and bludging on TAY we could do this!!!!
I swear Jimu alluded to this yesterday…. 🙂 -
There’s a Brisbane trivia night on the 4th of May.
Briswegians, shall we form Team Kotaku?
-
nIGHTS IS FATHER TIME 4 ME, i’M OUT…
-
More like ‘lame time’.
-
u r gheye!
-
-
-
-
More like “Damn these technology type people for not organising one in my city, specifically for all three Gizmodo readers from here! I want to sit alone at a table as team Kotaku dammit!
-
Do it… but write a text sign or something that says ‘looking for group’ and have it above your head like you’re in WoW or something.
Or, go by yourself and when anyone asks tell them either this game doesn’t have co-op… or your xbox live gold membership expired.
-
What, no Perth? Laaaaame.
Anyone know if the new Game Informer magazine is out in Australia? Heard some comments in TAY about it last week and wanted to pick up their special on ME3.
-
Not yet… I think it comes out in the last week of the month.
Subscribers got it earlier.
Weekend is already ruined thanks to the NAB.
I has no moneys. Not even the money my husband transferred to my account for the trip. Not sure whether to be angry or sad.
So I might be late for the meet-up due to having to visit the bank in Sydney tomorrow and wring their necks to see if any money comes out.
-
Note: I will not actually wring any necks, I’m aware it’s not the poor Tellers’ faults. 🙂
Alright, I’ve been preparing myself, so that next week in “ask me stuff” I can have an actually good question to ask, and I found this little gem from November 2009:
“I don’t like the fact that this guy assumes so many people read on the can.
Who reads on the can?
Unless your (sic) one of these types with immense contapation (sic) and need an hour or two to get one crap.”
This is relating to Mark talking about how magical magazines are, because they’re portable, and you can read them anywhere. And wow. This is after 20 odd people saying how great Marky looks.
I’m wondering if there’s some inbuilt desire in people to go against the crowd, and try to prove how individual they are, which simply leads them to doing stupid things. OK, I’m not actually wondering, I know there is. But what is it with twats on the internet?
As a side note, I just realised I can change the size of the comment box. Was everyone else aware of this, and am I an idiot, or is this some new thing that I haven’t noticed before?
-
On the comment box:
OMG. I HAD NO IDEA.
Here’s a weird thing I just did.
I went back and read through all the responses to the “Kotaku Speed Dating” post I did when I first got here.
So crazy reading how all these people, that I feel I know quite well now, introduced themselves.
-
I would of posted back then, but I was scared that people were gonna eat me.
…I’m still suspicious, and it’s midnight now. I should go to sleep now.
-
hahhaha i still remember that thread! we’re a pretty rowdy bunch aren’t we? ;)I’m just glad we didn’t scare you off!
-
Them hobos, man.
-
I was going to post, looked at the number of comments, and decided “Ehh, he’ll work out who I am.”
-
But now, just in case he wants to know, I’ve posted in it, which may or may not be a complete fabrication.
-
Just for curiosity… has anyone else seen
Ponyo?
I bought it on Blu-Ray, and I’ve just finished watching it… and I loved it!
-
Woohoo, Top Of The Page! XD
-
Haha, actually I was spending
-
What? Kotaku, I’m not finished typing yet! Geez…
As I was saying, I spent quite a bit of time telling Jimu it’s pretty much one of the greatest things I own, and putting up links to screenshots of its beauty. Its at the best blu ray I own, thats for sure. Glorious, glorious Ponyo…
-
I need to get this off my chest somehow, but since the ‘north american’ Kotaku is entirely unusable I’m forced to ‘tresspass’ on your apparently superior Aussie Kotaku… so, yes, I’m aware that I am ‘on your lawn’ and I promise I’ll step gingerly away after having said my peace… I Promise. so…
“I want ‘Way of the Samurai 4’ to get released outside Japan at some point and I don’t care who knows it… and I hope I’m not the only one. :-P”
Ok. I feel better now.
Thanks again for your patience and hospitality. 🙂
-
You know it’s a rule here that any yanks who tread in to our territory have to eat a piece of vegemite toast?! Well.. did ya?! 😉
-
veegeemight! omnomnomnom
-
-
Gday mate! Watch out, there’s kangaroos in here…
And drop bears.
-
The bears are the worst. THE WORST.
*shudder*
-
Bloody Drop Bears, I ended up in hospital for a week because of one of those damn things.

Apart from the two awesome responses above just wanted to say welcome. You are welcome here any time.

Saturday Confidential:
………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
with Plainview.
……………………………………………………………………………………
brought to you by: the number 3.
……………………………………………………………………………………
Saturday??? But why? Don’t answer that, it’s not important right now. Nothing matters that much and I’d like to think sometimes the answer you’re looking for is something you never want to find. To take solace in the mystery of all things is just the shortest distance between two points: like a straight line, like the cleanest of cut & run exit strategies played out forever and always in love and war. Sometimes the easy way out is the best way out.
The truth is Saturday is swell & swimmingly like a swimming pool when the pretty girl from next door comes over to your house for a swim, she doesn’t like you, not in that way, but that doesn’t stop her from drinking all your orange juice, eating all your watermelon and using your favourite pool pony: you know, the green one with the perfectly balanced buoyancy in even the most splashy conditions.
This one summer, I was king of the street when I dragged the trampoline to the very edge of the pool so we could all do high dives into the deep end, but the bad thing is the salt water made the trampoline mat slowly deteriorate with a kind of splendorous, salty savagery i was, up until this life-changing crossroad, unfamiliar with. I still can’t explain the exact science behind it, but everything turned out bad – like mayonnaise in the sun or Miley Cyrus in Hanna Montana.
One day, after school, I was just living large and jumping up into the sky as high as I could . . . but then the salt ravaged mat ripped hard and fast beneath me and I just plummeted straight down into the hot cement with this most crazy-hard force. That’s just the way life is: sometimes you’re up and sometimes you’re down.
I was bleeding pretty bad so everyone went home and nobody said anything, but we all knew the trampoline days were over. Everyone was glad it was me who fell through the trampoline and not one of the neighbourhood kids. The trampoline was my idea, and it made me kind of a big deal on the street, i guess i needed to learn there was always a dark side to fame, popularity and good times; I didn’t believe in trampolines after that, I didn’t believe in nothing after that.
The trampoline taught me to see not the dichotomy between success and failure; the trampoline taught me to just see the journey as neither good nor bad: the journey is what it is and you accept that or perish like fools and drunkards lost to inglorious misfortune.
But the point is, I think, maybe, you know, the good times don’t last forever and the next thing you know you’ve got a long, hot summer with Beth eating all your watermelon, drinking your orange juice and just living large on your favourite pool pony. Beth, the kind of girl who was always going to end up with someone better than you – no matter what. Even in summer, sometimes everything feels too cold-blooded.
A lot of the neighbourhood kids never came back when the trampoline days were over; it was never the same, I was never the same. Don’t get me wrong, I liked having Beth over, she made me laugh at a bunch of stuff, but it just wasn’t the same.
Most Saturdays I just like to sit on the sun lounge and remember the golden era of the swimming pool, just sit back and look at the shimmering surface and see the reflection of every summer afternoon ever – when I was somebody, when anything seemed possible . . . before the fall.
But today, and in the end, it was a good week though, I mean, all things considered. I went swimming every night in this unused motel swimming pool – just off the highway – and remembered better times.
I mean, at the end of all things, what I’m trying to say is everything worked out alright. Not for me though: the Tom Cruise Convention (TCC-11) did not – i repeat: did not! – go at all to plan.
I turned up in my Maverick costume, climbed out my car window just like they do it in Days of Thunder and it turns out I went to the wrong place; my grand entrance ruined by geography and circumstance.
Never mind, there is always next year. Next year? A good question and one I’m only too happy to answer. The truth is . . . I think I might go as Vincent from Collateral: I mean, you can’t go as Maverick every year and it’s just as simple as that.
I won’t go back to the convention today; I just feel really broken up after missing the opening day. Forget about it. Everyday is a Tom Cruise convention day for me – just living the dream one day at a time like Joel Goodsen in Risky Business.
Who can wait for the next Mission Impossible? Am i right or am i right? What a guy. Did you know Tom Cruise saved the lives of three people? I Can not and will not confirm nor deny that claim, but still, three people . . . that’s a pretty big deal. Tom Cruise is a big deal: he is a pilot and rides a motorbike just like he does it in Top Gun – so, kind of more than just a movie is what I’m really trying to say here.
Top Gun is a lifestyle if anything, just a way of being. I think the poolside trampoline was a metaphor for Top Gun, I think that was kind of the point.
And of course – you know what comes next – what about the controversy of Oliver Stone’s Born on the Fourth of July? What was all that about? Don’t answer that and we must never speak of it again. The funny thing is, and take a seat for this, Tom Cruise was Born on the third of July (1962).
Charlie Sheen was born on the third of September (1965).
Coincidence? I mean, when you ignore Charlie Sheen’s Birthday on the third of September, Tom Cruise was born on the third of July which is almost the fourth of July.
So? Coincidence? Maybe more than you or I will ever know. Who knows what kind of forces are at play here? Nobody, that’s who. This is just the kind of deal where you shoot first and ask questions later, you just do what you’ve got to do and let the dust settle on your high-speed getaway plan.
The truth is, some stones are best left unturned – like Oliver, if you know what I mean. Oliver Stone did Platoon. Charlie Sheen was in Platoon, but he spent the best 32 years of his life wishing he was in Apocalypse Now; he was in Red Dawn and that must be some kind of second-place consolation, it kind of must help him sleep at night . . . if you know what I mean.
Martin Sheen was in Apocalypse Now – he played Captain Benjamin Willard. I was convinced Martin Sheen smoked Marlboro Reds in Apocalypse Now and that’s why I smoked Marlboro Reds; I think Charlie Sheen smokes Marlboro Reds for the same reason. Apocalypse Now is Charlie Sheen’s favourite movie. But, no kidding, take a seat for this, Martin Sheen was born on the third of August (1940). Tom Cruise, Martin Sheen and Charlie Sheen were all born on the third day (of different months, in different years). I don’t know what that means, but it must be some kind of big deal or the like. Not a big deal like Tom Cruise, but still, you know what I mean. Tom Cruise has done all kinds of amazing things.
But still, I mean, this is really something (or nothing, how the heck am I supposed to know?) I’m lost, I mean – I’ve lost my train of thought; something about a lost train or some such thing? The questions are stacking up and the answers are – like the train – lost.
Evangeline Lilly was in Lost and she was born on . . . you’re going to think I’m being phony . . . the third of August (1979). No kidding. The third day. Have you seen Heat? It wasn’t until the eleventh time I watched that movie that I realised, no joking, Tone Loc is in it – he plays Richard Torena.
When you realise Tone Loc is on the cast list in Heat, it’s kind of like the most obvious thing in the world and you wonder how you ever went so far as to miss it in the first place.
Do you know when Tone Loc was born? True story: the third of March (1966). Huh? The third day? How can that be?
Here’s the thing: Heat is probably almost the second best movie of all time; Pacino & De Niro in a life or death chess game played out at street level. Natalie Portman stars in Heat, probably one of her first movie roles . . . after The Professional. Natalie Portman was 11 when she did The Professional: she was, in the beginning, considered to young for the role.
But this is the end, so don’t pay too much attention to the beginning, but keep watching Natalie Portman all the same.
Black Swan was her best movie, but I guess she was somewhere closer to 30 when she did that. I think her character had severe obsessive compulsive disorder in that movie – she experienced what they call “intrusive thoughts”: her reality built on a faulty, misfiring perception of what was, what is and what might be.
But, in the end, I’m pretty sure you see my point, I mean, all this adds up to something. Or maybe it’s nothing, just a wrong turn onto a one-way street to nowhere in particular; another far away dead end with no retreat, no surrender.
In the cold, hard light of day it’s something for certain that I’m just bent out of shape after the Tom Cruise convention didn’t go my way.
You know, you look forward to something all year and then when it finally comes around it can be taken from you in the blink in of an eye – just like that; kind of like John Anderton in Minority Report: he had everything until he fell through his very own poolside trampoline (metaphorically speaking), and then, just like that – nothing. I guess sometimes you can have too much of a good thing.
The point is, if you’re lucky enough to have something as amazing as a pool and a trampoline, then . . . i guess . . . the point is . . . just don’t go all Gordon Gecko on that beat . . . don’t combine them into the most amazing thing ever; enjoy the pool and the trampoline in two very different contexts. A lot of people shoot for the stars, a lot of people never come back, and a lot of people spend all summer on a sun lounge – with a Marlboro Red – watching beth ride their favourite pool pony.
The third day is more important than it first appears from second place,
Plainview.

Wow, I read all of that 😛
Why would you have salt water in a swimming pool?-
Salt water pools require less maintenance than chlorinated ones.
-
Tis true. They do however cause extreme pain to the eyes while swimming.
-
Really? I’ve never heard of salt water pools. If I wanted to swim in salt water I would go to the beach lol.
I have learnt something today!

Beautiful. Majestic. Awe inspiring. I would read a book if you wrote it and the page count went over a million. I’d read all of it, no doubt.
-
Thank you, Plainview. My one regret to this story, is that some may never see it. I feel it is a travesty that your writing is not on the walls, on the floors, all around the world.

GLORIOUS.
Kotakuns…
Because I love you, though I understand not your obsessions with this ‘metal’ thing, I gift you with this:

Don’t say I never give you anything.
So, two things:
1) Is there a good alternative to WoW out there? Some friends got me into it recently and I’ve been having a blast… up until I reached level 85 and discovered the (not so) wonderful world of pugs. It sort of drained the fun for me. Is there a method or alternate game whereby I can avoid the rampant ass-hattery of socially inept gamers? I know I may be asking the world here, just figured I’d put it out there…
2) I’m an amateur composer with a project studio and I’ve been trying to find a cool indie project to write music for. Strangely enough it seems like all the indie games out there are up to their eyeballs in musicians. How is this happening and how do I get involved in the indie game music scene?
-
Well, a friend of mine has gotten back into Aion recently, despite disliking it when it first came out, but apparently the expansionny thing fixes a lot of its problems, so you might want to look at that, but I honestly have no idea, and think you’re asking the impossible.
For the second part, do you have a website or a source for all your songs thus far? The best way is to get a portfolio up, and show that around. I’ve heard a lot of things about the games business being hard to get into, unless you’re already in it…

I’m holding out for the Old Republic MMO, which *should* be releasing this year.

I’ll be a god parent, but only if the baby is cute.
-
hahaha first question my sister asked of the doctor after giving birth was “Is it an ugly baby?”
she was so paranoid of having an ugly baby!
-
That is hilarious!
-
Haha! Even if it was tho, the doctor would just say ‘ahhhh…. noooooooo, noooo, not at all…’

Meet up was great fun. My highlights.
TadMod refusing to give up Trials. Went straight to one of the hardest levels ever, despite having never played it. Set himself on fire numerous times.
Sir Eats-a-lot’s dark, dark secret.
FatShady’s giant Trials banner.
Trying to find Pizza Hut, then the in-store computer was broken so we couldn’t get pizza.
Jamie Watt being more Scottish than me and bringing Irn Bru.
Forgetting everyone’s real name two seconds after being told!
Kirby helping me get one extra street pass.
So much more. Had a great time, we have to do it again.
