Last generation it was all so simple. The Xbox 360 controller (in my opinion) was far superior to the DualShock 3, but this generation? It’s a bit tougher to separate them. The DualShock 4 is such a massive, massive improvement, but the Xbox One controller — I think — still has superior analogue sticks. What if you could take the best parts of each one and make a goddamn super controller?
That’s the dream and YouTuber Trials Of Ataraxia is living that dream and in the above video he shows you how.
Essentially he take the analogue sticks from the Xbox One, he then splits open the DualShock 4, takes the DS4’s sticks out and replaces them with the Xbox One’s (arguably) superior analogue sticks.
Sounds simple enough, right?
Well, yes and no. I sure as hell won’t be trying this any time soon, but I am not tech savvy to the level where I could confidently mess around with $90 controllers like that. As the video progresses it seems to get exponentially more complicated as time goes on. I love the Xbox One’s analogue sticks, but I’m not sure I love them that much.
But if you’re feeling brave, go for it! I’d love to hear about the results.
Note: the bloopers at the end are well worth watching. Particularly if you’ve ever tried to mod something, or even build your own PC. That fear, the reaction when you drop something… it’s visceral! There are a lot of swears. Good swears. Funny swears.
