Look kids, it’s Max Eisenhardt, one of the most beloved villains in the Marvel universe. He may be directly responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of people, but he feels really bad about it so we’re giving him a second third fourth fifth chance. Oh, Marvel.
Launched this week as a new playable character in Gazillion Entertainment’s massively multiplayer Marvel Diablo, Magneto is one of those characters that really hurts my head if I think about him too much. Over the years the comics and movie folks have done their damnedest to make him a sympathetic character, using his experiences as a young Jewish boy who loses his parents at a concentration camp during World War II to justify his evil actions.
But come on. Mags has done a lot more than rob a few banks. He’s brought whole nations to their knees, incited a bloody one-sided civil war between mutants and humans in Genosha. He’s killed countless innocents displaying his power over the years, led various incarnations of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants — EVIL MUTANTS — and at one point blasted the Earth with an EMP blast so powerful every electronic device on the planet turned off. Imagine that. Planes crashing, hospitals going dark. That’s a lot of bodies on his hands.
Oh wait, he’s wearing white now. He’s ok.
The villain-turned-hero mechanic employed by Marvel Comics has always bugged the hell out of me. Forgiveness on this scale is the biggest fiction of them all, beyond eye blasts or transforming into bio-organic metal.
I’m going to pretend DC’s Suicide Squad got a hold of my Magneto and planted a bomb in his head. It’s the only way this works for me.

Better to have the crazy guy capable of doing these on your team than to fight him.
Max Eisenhardt? Do you mean, um, Eric Lensherr?
I thought so too, but according to google and comic sites, Max Eisenhardt is his real name on Earth-616 (the main universe in the comics) Eric Lensherr seems to be an alias on that earth, but his real name in the other universes…..Comics! 😀

Sometimes you have ppl do re-imaginings which stick for better or worse.
What a strange thing to be bothered by, a fictional mass murderer is playable.
Is this one of those first world problems I’ve heard so much about?
That’s a hell of a line to draw in the sand considering he’s, at most, the 2nd best X-character there is at what he does (but what he does 2nd best isn’t very nice).
It’s amazing that this seems to be such a big deal to you. Cyclops, the leader of the X-Men and a “boyscout”, was willing to let the whole planet become a snack for the Phoenix Force (and nearly succeeded) just for the chance that mutants might start to appear again. Magneto begged him not to since it wasn’t worth it. The same Magneto you’re concerned about. The one that sparked a civil war. But there is no mention of that in a Cyclops article. But let’s put the Magneto bashing to the side. At least he thought he was doing the right thing in fighting for mutant rights.
Personally I am waiting for Venom, no idea when he is coming for release but I am excited for that mass-murdering overly horny alien. Why? Because he’s awesome. Who cares about what these characters did before, let everyone enjoy playing as their favourite character, not just their favourite villain. It’s not canon anyway so it really doesn’t matter their motivation behind joining to good fight

Except that wasn’t Magneto, but another mutant impersonating him!
To be perfectly fair it wasn’t as if Genosha was lollipops and sunshines till Mags took over..
I mean the country literally enslaved the mutant population forcing them to wear the equivalent of a bomb collar that doubled as a power inhibitor. They had it coming =P
