The audience clamouring for Jason Vorhees and Friday the 13th to make a return to gaming aren’t, say, as large as the crowd beckoning for another Call of Duty. But they have money, they have passion, and thanks to a combination of the two a Kickstarter for a new game is about to be funded.
It’s got 6 days left to run, but at the time of writing Friday the 13th: The Game had just under US$70,000 to raise to bring its survival horror multiplayer vision back to life.
The project has just over 9,400 backers and has raised more than US$630,000. It’s got the backing of the Friday the 13th creator Sean Cunningham, who offered Gun Media the opportunity to work on a new video game following multiple meetings.
It’s a 1v7 multiplayer set in Crystal Lake, where the 7 players play camp counsellors being stalked by the iconic psychopath.
Gun Media previously worked on Breach & Clear and Hard Lander, with Friday the 13th: The Game being a third-person multiplayer-only action game. It’s also concentrating on Jason being as brutal as possible, as can be seen in the Kickstarter pitch:
Grab a counselor in a choke hold, pick them up off the ground, and smash their face into a tree. Repeatedly. Or how about lifting a counselor up above your head as they kick and scream, holding them aloft long enough to walk near a rack of farm spikes to slam your victim down upon them?
Which is nice if you like that sort of thing.
The initial delivery date is October next year, although we’ve all been on the Kickstarter rollercoaster plenty of times to take that with a grain of salt. Nevertheless, if you’re a horror fan and the idea of running away, Until Dawn-style, from Jason Vorhees in a multiplayer setting works for you, then have a look. It’ll cost you $35 dollarydoos to reserve a digital key.

Generally kickstarters receive most of their funding at the start and end of the time period, so I’d expect this to pass their goal.
Exactly that. If you can raise three quarters of your goal with the last week to go, you should get over the line.
I pre-ordered Grand Theft Auto 5 for $39. I cant see myself paying $35 for this, even though I am a huge Friday the 13th fan.
1v7 multiplayer? That can only go badly.
It’s spelled Voorhees.
