On the spending spree to end all spending sprees, and apparently unable to buy the concepts of “cars” and “soccer” wholesale, Epic has settled for acquiring Psyonix, the developer of acclaimed car soccer game Rocket League.
Epic announced its latest purchase in a press release Wednesday afternoon. The acquisition will officially be complete at the end of May or early June, and Psyonix will “continue to bring the full Rocket League experience across all platforms to all current and new players all over the world.”
This will, however, mean some changes for the Steam version of the game. On PC, Rocket League will come to the Epic Games Store in “late 2019.” Until then, it will remain on sale on Steam, and after that point, it’ll still be supported on Steam. However, it will no longer be available for purchase there once it’s transitioned over to the Epic Store.
In a blog post, Psyonix said that it expects things for Rocket League to continue chugging along pretty much as normal, with “frequent updates that have new features, new content, and new ways to play the game” still planned. Epic, Psyonix believes, will give the game and its esports ecosystem a hard-charging boost.
“In the long-term, we expect to bring Rocket League to the Epic Games store and to leverage our new relationship to grow the game in ways we couldn’t do on our own before,” wrote Psyonix. “We believe that bringing Rocket League to new audiences with more support is a win for everybody.”

I’ve read elsewhere that Epic have “no announced plans” to stop selling Rocket League on Steam.
Make of that what you will.
“If you want to sell your game on our store, you can only sell your game on our store so we can get all the shared revenue from your sales.”
“If we want to sell a game on our store, we’re cool with keeping it on another platform for a while because we still get the money anyway.”

Wonder what excuse people will come up with to be mad about this once it goes exclusive.
I’m not mad. Just honestly tired of epic’s rubbish. They are trying to grow their storefront like a malignant cancer. I don’t see anything positive coming from their storefront.
If they can stick to their feature/update roadmap things are going to get interesting as far as the epic store goes.
In regards to “epic’s rubbish” if you have not been upset by all the developers Valve has bought it doesn’t make sense to be against epic acquiring psyonix.
Who’s to say it will go exclusive? Rocket League has been sold on Steam for years now. There’s pretty much no need to change now.
I suspect this is more about developing a sequel or a new game.
They’ve already said once it’s for sale on epic store it’ll stop being sold on steam. Doesn’t affect anyone that’s already purchased the game.
Actually they haven’t said it’ll stop being sold on Steam. They have said no decision has been made.

Either news outlets have gotten it wrong or the original announcement has been edited because they reference the game still being for sale on steam “in the meantime”.
3rd last paragraph of this article even says as much. Maybe that’s where I got it from.
