Ever wanted to build a castle or a working calculator over, say, the pub on the street corner? Well, Minecraft Earth probably won’t let you build something that advanced. But you can try, with the game launching on Android and iOS in Australia today.
Minecraft Earth, an augmented reality mobile game based on the hugely popular series, is coming to a closed beta later this summer. To tide you over, Mojang released a short video yesterday on that shows off some gameplay. It’s incredibly charming.
Harry Potter and Pokemon have crossed the AR rubicon, so naturally it made sense that Minecraft would follow suit. But while both of those games are beset with the kinds of microtransactional models you’d expect from mobile games, Minecraft Earth is at least avoiding one of the worst elements.
