Today is frantic and busy. I’m working harder today than I normally do and I’m not at work. Today also is crazy ambitious and has a steep learning curve.
You shall see more on Wednesday.

Ohh! I’m erotically interested now! DETAILS! MAWR DETAILS!
I am amazed and surprised at myself! I managed on the weekend to repair my rrod! With only one bandaid required!
Getting the case of is the main pain, but I managed. Then I had to remove the x-clamp. Then I was cross that I decided to attempt the repair without new heat sink gloop. So, I *cough*, not that I’m a tight arse, *cough* carefully scraped the old excess heat sink gloop from the sides of the chip, and saved it. Then cleaned of the old stuff, then reapplied the saved gloop. But I very carefully ensured I had a smooth thin even spread. Then, I stuck the old heat sink back down, tightened it up so good, that the allen key slipped and I scraped my hand across the mobo soldered pins, drawing much blood from my fleshy thumby bit.
Once done, I decided to test it while it was still in bits, I turned it on, and pow! It was green! I grinned like a maniac! So then I went back to teh work bench, and put it all back together properly and gathered the kids around to celebrate my genius, pushed the power button, and it went rrod on me again. :-/ The kids laughed, and pointed, and said hurtful things about my manlihood. They walked off, and I sat looking at it despondently. Then I turned it off and on and off and on 10 times, and gave it a few fonzy whacks, and turned it back on and it went GREEN! I was like :-O I left it on for an hour, and retried a few more times, it seems to be fine and back to normal!
Then I got to sing “I fixed the XBox, I fixed the Xbox, No time for red rings Cause I fixed the Xbox, cause I coulddddd.” to the tune of We are the Champions, until my kids threatened legal action citing copyright laws. (They really just started hitting me with pillows, but for the purpose of this story it sounded better).
So there we have it, much thanks to FS for sending me the repair kit! 😀 And thanks again to Batguy for the ridiculously cheap xbox which he had no idea would go all rr on me, but now I’ve repaired it, I feel like a champ! 😀
(I think you should get an xbox rrod fixerer achievement when it restarts.)
-
epic journey! well done sire! I totally agree with you on the need for that acheivement! That would be funny as hell!
-
Sweeeet. Stoked to hear that it’s working again! Here’s hoping that the Fonzy whack keeps on doing its job!
Re: blood. That sounds like a little like me over the weekend. I set out to change a washer in the shower. An hour and many cuts to my arms and face later, it was fixed!
-
Just putting this out there, but you guys don’t think a life of gaming has damaged our manly home repairing skills do you??? Its just that I tried fixing the toilet a few months ago, I lifted the lid, pulled out some plastic dohicky, put it back in again, and it made no difference! Its still making a hissing sound and leaking a bit of fluids!! Its just so shameful to have a man in overalls come in your home with a toolbox, fix the problem in 2 minutes, bend you over and shove a $300 bill in your pooper zone.
Why is there no home repair games? Its the only way I learn!!! If it weren’t for Carmen, I’d have no idea the world was round!
-
Handyman Mama?
I’ll admit that I neglected an important details for comic effect: I got mad and spent an hour cleaning lantana out of our front yard, so that I clear access to the water mains tap.
Plumbing on the whole is a painful job and I think that most people are terrible at it, regardless of their preferred pastimes. You usually have to contort yourself at weird angles while lying on hard tiles, things are all slippery wet and/or smelly, and even a tiny mistake will cause everything to leak at the end. I hate it. Which is why I was happier getting cut to pieces doing the gardening 😛
-
I once tried gardening, I got bitten by four bees…in the face… 🙁
-
This is why our kind should stay indoors. Far to many scary things out there. *shudders* Bees, Lantana, John Burgess etc.
-
Those must have been some crazy-ass bees! Normally they just sting you…
-
-
-
congrats Q-bo, you get a great sense of manliness when you fix something others can’t. Well at least i do, that seems a bit self indulgent but meh.
Congrats! Glad to hear that the fix works, I might give it a try, depends on whether I can get my act together and enter and win the wrestling comp though…
Hey Mark, are you watching Wrestlemania?
-
I wish. You?
-
That wrestling reply comp finishes tomorrow at midnight doesn’t it?
-
Yep. Tomorrow at midnight. I’ll probably chuck up a reminder post this afternoon with a couple of the entries we’ve had so far.
-
I’ve decided my acting skills should be left between me and the mirror. But, since the prize is of such epic nature, I think its only fair that the winner actually has to fight you, preferably in mud, with speedo’s, via web cam…
-
-
-
Unfortunately not. I’m checking the website every 15 minutes, though.
-
-
Undertaker vs. Triple H (who’s looking old) plus appearances by The Rock & Steve Austin… sure, it’s a bit gimmicky, but it’s awesome!
Sadly though, I’m not watching it either 😐
Very few things make me RAEG!! – babies, obviously. Unicorns, probably rainbows.
But Melbourne’s buses are the worst. I’ve been waiting for half an hour and three were meant to come. When one did come past, it was an express and notr taking passengers.
So, bleh.
-
I’m with you on that bus rage! Also, your hatred to unicorns can be diminished simply by knowing we have tamed thems.
http://www.thinkgeek.com/caffeine/wacky-edibles/e5a7/ -
Everything about Melbourne’s public transport system is a joke.
-
Everything that’s a transport service in Melbourne is a joke. Buses, trams, trains, taxis, etc
-
Really? That makes me feel better, about Brisbanes lame excuse for a system. It has gotten a little better, at least on my routes. I remember waiting a whole afternoon for one and then gave up and went home.
-
Our system is fine, it’s our traffic that does the damage.
If you can, stick with the trains!
-
-
Just came in to say its my birthday! And you people have started talking waaayyy too much for me to catch up on at the moment. Cmon its my birthday, you should wait for me dammit! Now I’m gonna be behind on TAY. On my birthday! Did I mention its my birthday?
-
Are you trying to say that there is a relationship between this particular date and the date that you entered this world? I’m not too sure I understand the importance of that.
Could you perhaps try to spell it out in a somewhat clearer fashion?
-
I’m celebrating 26 years since I had to come out of my mothers holy region. Ewwww…
-
You made me think of my mothers ewwww region! Damnit!
Happy Birthday though ya crazy nutjob! 😀
-
-
-
:O
And it’s mine on Thursday! This is obviously one of, if not the, most important weeks in the Kotaku Community calendar!
-
Happy Birthday, mate!
-
HAPPY BERTDAY!
Meet me in the CBD and I’ll shout you lunch…
-
Oooo… ok but theres two problems with that. One, I’m shy. Two, I think my ladyfriend has planned something and might not appreciate me running away to the city. One day though Jimu, one day…
-
-
Oh great, now I’ll have to bake you a birthday cake. What a shame you won’t be here to eat it. 😛
Happy Birthday Sughly!!!
-
I dunno… dont we both live in Bris? Either way you could like, mail me a cake or something?
-
You guys even live within a suburbs distance!
-
-
-
Happy birthday indeed sughly! I’d offer to treat you to lunch, but you keep telling me you’re shy, so would there be any point? 😉 If you do feel up to it, I’d be happy to join you in celebration!
-
Yeah I’m shyyyyyy ^_^
Thanks for the offer/love tho welbot!
-
-
Happy Birthday – that little awkward moment in TAY on Sunday that no-one else saw can be your present!
XD
-
Haha, I just saw it. We can make it work some how…
-
Seriously though, you draw amazingly
Always so cute :3
…of course, now you just need to get to work and release something – and no, you can’t have the rest of your birthday off >:(
-
Haha, I SO did though. Opened up photoshop this morning, looked at it, then went and played NBA Jam. Its my party and i’ll procrastinate if I want to.
-
-
-
-
Happy birthday!
Cake! Yay! -
I’ll make more brownies and eat them in your honour!
-
Happy bday Sughly boy 😀 hope it’s a good one
-
Happy birthday to you
happy birthday to you
You look like a Sughly
And you smell like one tooOf course I have no clue
What a Sughly smells like, do you?
So let’s just forget
That I ever said that too you-
Haha! If I were to describe the smell of Sughly, it would probably involve coffee, sweat, and mouldy cheese. Mmmm…
-
-
Happy birthday!!
-
Oh crap! Happy birthday Sughly old bean!
-
-
Happy Birthday!
-
Happy Bro-day.
It’s bromazing that you manage to be brotastic while still being old.
Bro.
hey welbot or anyone else with a suffient knowledge of networking. I want to set up a minecraft server for offline play for me and my sister to play on. However i have no idea how to do this. Ideas???
-
Ok.. start by downloading
http://www.minecraft.net/download/Minecraft_Server.exe?v=1301881526029
Put it in a folder, and then run the file.
Once it’s finished setting up the spawn area, you can close the file, and you’ll notice there’s a whole bunch of other files in the folder.
Open the server.properties file in notepad, and change the online-mode to false.
Restart the server file, then load your minecraft client, and connect to your lan IP. That’s it!
-
If you need any more help with networking or setting up the server feel free to hit me up, email is i_706_i(at)hotmail.com
I run an offline minecraft server for my housemates, though I sometimes open it up to the outside world when they are away from home. I also do tech support for a living so I should be at least somewhat useful.
-
Has anyone tried NBA Jam on insane difficulty? Its… insane. I havent got past the first team yet. Sometimes I’m ahead by 2 or 3 points even. It doesnt last long.
Oh yeah!
Had credits roll on Pokemans White last night. Saw some animated older generation Pokes, White Forest is an underwhelming dissapointment…
-
jimu whats your team you beat the game with. I’m a little stuck and by stuck i mean i leveled up my starter to much and everything else is weak. So now i have to constantly grind to get anywhere.
-
Haha, sounds like my son. He keeps changing all his other pokingmen every time he comes across a new cool looking one (which is often for him). So now hes managed to get to elite four status but cant beat them. Because they all suck. This is Pearl or something tho…
-
Try grinding against Audino (they give huge exp, and are only found in shaking grass) using the lucky egg. Makes it so much faster.
-
My what’s-his-face water guy is level 31 and I only just got into the third place and caught Victini… he’s my next strongest guy (at L.15), even though I’ve caught 21 pokemon
lol :/
-
Tried just doing the switcheroo?
With the new exp system that scales with levels, if you grab a new ‘mon, and just have them as your lead Pokemon before switching out to another battle-worthy Pokemon, they can get pretty great exp, escpecially if you follow what Cracks said and also give them a lucky egg.
Lucky Egg has an exp multiplier of 1.5x, and level scaling is a factor of [Fainted Pokemon’s level + 2 / Your Pokemon’s level + 2], so if your Pokemon is crazy underlevelled, you’ll get there in no time.-
Tis true, over the course of the game I have switched everyone except the starter.
-
Better idea (in my opinion), go to the battle building in New York like city (I suck at names), it’s filled with all the clerks and stuff, and a janitor guy talks to you when you first enter, and when you beat all the guys in it, you get given an exp share. It’s just like having a weak pokemans as a starter, but without having to actually put them in combat (it’s a held item).
-
I find it’s a good idea to make use of all the handy items in the game.
I never did any grinding, used the luck egg a bit.
Doesn’t seem like a grind-heavey game which is sweet.
-
-
-
Ghost/ground golem
Water/rock turtle
steel/dark ninja/hero dood.
fire orangutan/gorrilla
grass starter
last was the tick/spider electric type, he was useless so I switched him for the Black legendary when I got himAll of them are low 50s.
Sorry I don’t know any actual neams, I called them:Giant Robo
Crush
Muramasa
Nutter
Smugly
BlckLitnin.-
I’m up to victory road, but I’m going to be swapping out a few of my pokemon, beat the entire of the dragon gym (one Pokemon centre break to get PP back ,and a few MooMoo milk used) with my level 42 excadrill (he is completely imba, attack rating is ridiculous), otherwise I have a 42 Victini (keeping), 43 Swanna (gone), 38 Emboar (gone), 12 Larvesta (going to grind), and 44 Zoroark (Definitely keep).
I pretty much destroy everything, for no readily apparent raisin, it’s great.
-
u craaaaazy
Joltik/Galvantula with Compound Eyes, having 91% accuracy with a STAB Thunder? Facerage time!-
Nah, he’s a shitgunt.
-
-
-
DOUBLE (DOWN)
No joke, my chest feels tight now.
If I die from a heart attack, I’d just like to say that it was WORTH IT.
-
Considering this for lunch today…
-
WORTH *clutches chest* IT
-
DO IIIIT!
Just be prepared for an afternoon nap!
-
I just finished one at uni.
Kinda overrated. It’s delicious, but not “omg the best thing evar”.
Now, if only this weird irregular heartbeat would go away…
-
-
They are good. Tastier and less calories than a Big Mac! I am apparently not allowed to have one though because I am not a man. :-/
-
I feel like I should try one… but normally I don’t like KFC ’cause I find it tastes like everything is salt, flavoured to be like food.
And, y’know, it’ll probably finish me off 😛
-
The “BE A MAN!” marketing angle thing confused me.
Mostly because they’re calling eating the Double ‘having ManTime’.
-
It’s weird isn’t it? The Maxibon is going for the same angle at the moment too – the “Man chew”. Even weirder is that they’re both the same shape!
I guess that some marketing genius has worked out that men only want to eat food that they can grab in one fist. Makes sense – it’s so annoying when that second hand or some sissy stick gets in the way.
You would understand. Not being a man and all.
-
*You WOULDN’T understand.
Dammit! I swear that was edited after I submitted it 😛
-
I kind of have to say, I’m not sure I can fit that stuff in my hands. I have difficulty with a quarter pounder from maccas, but I’ve seen friends manage it with a pounder (with added bacon).
I guess I’m just not a real man. I’ll go console myself with some musical theatre.
-
Well, if it makes you feel any better… you are the very model of a modern Kotaku commenter.
-
-
I don’t think I could actually eat that. It just looks like it’d be so greasy that it’d fly out of my hands like a wet bar of soap as soon as I picked it up.
My wife loves KFC, but I think even she might draw the line there.
While on the topic of junk food, if anybody lives near Magill Rd in Adelaide, a new place has opened there called The Burger Foundry. I tried it last weekend and it is AWESOME. That burger was the size of my head. You may well need 2 hands to handle a Whopper, but you need a goddamn forklift to handle this one. Top-notch quality, too, which I guess you’d expect when they’re charging $12 for it.
Apparently someone has been eating people in Brisbane…
My bet is on Sughly…
It’s always the shy ones.
-
I could imagine this happening – particularly if he’s getting a bit carried away on his birthday.
-
I’m eating cake, not human! Though I can’t guarantee the cake doesnt contain trace of people meats…
So I posted a status update on Facebook about how I contacted some local school libraries to see if they had A Clockwork Orange, Lolita or The Godfather on shelf. A “friend” replied to tell me I had no life.
Another friend joined me in trolling her whilst a different friend laughed along on Twitter.
Social networks can be an awesome way of venting frustration. I really don’t know what I keep this girl on my friendlist.
-
Because I’m too lazy how to work out how to remove people from my friend’s list, there’s a few who are just there for me to troll.
There was a massive thread, where one guy had payed out someone I’m kind of friends with (he compared her to Meg Griffin, with the worst connotations), so I went through and listed all his grammatical and spelling errors. It was great.
-
Did any of the libraries answer your question?
-
I would like to know this too…
-
I called three high schools. Two that I attended and one that I live near.
The first was hesitant to answer, although I think I phrased things poorly and they didn’t want to get in trouble. They said that they did not have any copies of Lolita, The Godfather or A Clockwork Orange available.
The second was more willing to go along with things and pretty quickly told me that they couldn’t find the books in their catalog.
The final school told me that nobody was at the library because they’re on holidays.
Methinks calling the Department of Education to see if there is a policy in place for controversial novels would be best. Although I might still try to be sneaky and see if Ender’s Game is there.
-
Sneaky with Ender’s game?
I’m confused, given I studied that in year 6…
-
Think of the scene where Bonzo and Ender fight in the showers.
Now imagine if that was to be depicted in a video game.
Ender’s Game is awesome and I would encourage anyone to read it, but it does help demonstrate the hypocrisy of treating different mediums differently.
-
Also, genocide is pretty wholesome family entertainment.
-
Well, considering the main opposition to videogame violence is the ACL, it seems pointless to bring up genocide.
After all, these are the people that support teaching the stories of Noah and Moses to children.
-
-
Orson Scott Card is a homophobe.
-
And?
He’s a douchebag, and his mindless faith prevents him from seeing the real world as it is, it doesn’t make his books any less good, in fact, I’d say it makes them better, except then I’d be going against my principle of “based on the book, not the author.”
-
I really dislike Orson Scott Card as a man, but as a writer he did manage to put out three pretty damned brilliant novels: Ender’s Game, Speaker for the Dead and Ender’s Shadow.
Luckily, his less than desirable views don’t sneak into any of these stories.
-
Yeah, I haven’t found a copy of Ender’s Shadow anywhere, so I’m yet to read it, and I haven’t read Ender’s Game in years, so hopefully I can find my house’s copy…
-
Calm down, I like his shit.
-
Calm Down?!
I AM PERFECTLY CALM!
Can’t you see how calm I am? *picks up a table and smashes it. Yes. A Table.*
In all seriousness though, I just hate it when people state facts on their lonesome, I only have three options. ONLY THREE! Ignore them, respond with a slightly yelling comment, or respond simply with “Yes?” I’ll admit, I should use the first more often.
-
I’m just bored and trying to spark up whatevr convo I can. Hard to stay awake now…slipping , smlipping.
WHERES TEHCHEESE??
-
-
Oddly enough, I found Ender’s Shadow everywhere I turned when scouting through Brisbane book stores for a copy of Speaker for the Dead.
In the end, I gave up and got both off of Book Depository.
-
Book depository has the oddest filtering system. Is there no way for me to filter author, format and genre at the same time?
-
Is it just me, or did everyone playing Nier want to push that old fisherman at Seafront off the pier and calmly stand there watching him drown?
-
No.
I just ignored him completely…
I’m good at games!
-
Haha that’s probably the idea.
I love how all the side-quest NPC’s treat you like a chump errand boy in the second part.-
I know! Like that girl who says “Oh, you’re that guy who just does whatever you tell him to do…go find my boyfriend!”
-
-
No, just standing there is too passive. I’d throw rocks at him while he drowned.
-
He’s still around?
Another relaxing Monday for me!
Apparently there’s this Ultimate Gaming Championship going on all the way in Italy. Mutiple games being competed.
making wrestlings movies is haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaardd!!!
-
I’ll say
So far Ive checked that I can record a movie and had some ideas…no actual recoding in the wrestling area…
-
do you know how to pronounce Serrels?
-
Rhymes with perils?
-
Perfect!
-
even endorsed by the very man himself; i knew i could count on you. high-five!!!
-
High five!
-
-
-
you have no idea how much i was worried about this… I was going to post the same question… thanks mate.
-
Imagine trying to film a 2-year-old for it…he never does anything awesome until I turn the camera off.
Something tells me I won’t be winning a prize, especially if you’re entering.
-
my movie is . . . horrible-bad!!! – and never never never be discouraged by anyone.
I recorded my video before seeing some of the new entries. Should have put more effort in…
-
I recorded five seconds of a video, got bored and left. I’ve now decided that the only chance I have of winning is to do a musical number.
I just finished filming mine, just editing it know. Prepare to be blown away folks 😀
Good luck to everyone else too
Alright Jimu, you want a conversation, well, lets continue to alienate more people, by talking about Pokemon.
What is your favourite pokemon of all time?
Mine’s Magikarp, solely because it becomes Gyarados, which was just so very kick-ass.
-
Mine had to be articuno, pretty much single handedly got me through the elite four. Whereas my most hated is taurus…sooooooo many times it escaped after the pokeball had stopped rocking, i almost broke my gameboy from frustration.
-
Mine’s Squirtle possibly because of the cartoon where he wears glasses and acts tough even though there is no way he could be.
I DO NOT like eveolving him, even though Wartortle is a classic!
-
Squirtle was a badass 😛
I’ve always chosen the water starters since. It’s always hard to go past Charizard.
Favourite would have to be Alakazam.
Also, I heard u liek Mudkipz?
-
-
I’ve only ever played the originals (plus a Japanese copy of Yellow) so…
Snorlax?-
Good choice! He’s a champ!!!
-
-
Seadra. Because it’s badass and it looks like it has an attitude problem. It’s the McBain of Pokémon.
I just realised that there are Old Spice ads on the billboards in Need For Speed Underground 2. Whoda thunk it?
-
I always wondered how much people paid for those in-game billboards. Best Buy has a ton of them in there.
And while I’ve (hopefully) got your attention, were you playing Monday Night Combat on Sunday?
-
I once saw a TAC billboard playing Saints Row 2! It was bizarre
Can everyone answer this question and share with friends?
*fingers crossed you can see it*
-
Requires login :/
-
I answered and I feel like you only exposed us to your FB page so people can stalk you… but I haven’t added you in case that’s not what you wanted 😛
-
I was tempted to add him as a friend with the attached message *Heavy breathing over the phone line.*
-
Spaghetti is for dinner. Meat, pasta, cheese. Holy Trinity.
-
I thought the Holy Trinity was capsicum, celery and onions?
-
I thought it was Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and The Big Bopper?
-
actually it’s carrot celery and onions!
-
-
i thought “trinity” is the school i go to?
Whoops! I’m not the grammar nazi anymore, but I notice Mark totally ignored my helpful attempt at correcting his work! 🙁
But I will say, what a brilliant R18 article he just posted, very well written. The Goose managed to get an interview with the Atkinson man, do you think this new spanner in the works (Robert..Someone) would answer some question posed to Kotaku directly? My blood, its boiling, but I try not to comment too much in those posts cause I find it hard to be positive. :-/
YAY!!!
finally submitted my entry to the comp.. man that was grueling… i also made a version of me and mark in SvR2007… although they look nothing like us as it doesn’t seem to allow you to make “skinny and pale”…
*squee*
That seriously took me all 3 hours to upload both clips… bloody hell… in other related news, i’m pretty sure bee has lost what remained of her respect for me with these vids…
Also, whilst i was at uni today, i had a thought..
Would the legal department of coles be ‘coleslaw’?
A little food for thought, people.
PS… over 230 comments before i even post.. you lads (and ladies) are machines!
-
You should win just because of your effort to enter 😀
And repsect, pffftt who needs it… 😛 -
Just watched them.
Crap, my entry is going to need to be even better.
-
Oh God, NO!
Oh no! Friday has a sequel! http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb449/lamboman007/Wednesdayssong.jpg
-
That’s not even remotely funny.
-
I thought you menat the Ice Cube weed movie, Next Friday or the third one, The Friday after Next.
-
Kill it with fire!
Noooo! Sparkadia show in Brisbane and its sold out just as I find out about it!! Dammit dammit… anyone got a spare 2 tickets? :'(
It’s my birthday remember! If that helps tickets… suddenly appear… some how…
-
It was my birthday last week… so if you get them, you kind of have to give them to me.
It’s the rules, there was a vote and everything.
http://www.kafkaskoffee.com/junk/Platform.html
You guys have got to try this!
(First time I played I missed the block and fell to my not-death, you’d think I’d have learned how to not be fail by now…)
-
Bugger, I could only get about 4 of the coins.
-
I’m a filthy rotten liar.
-
Does anybody know when new colours for the 3DS come out? I want red…
-
Ahahha haa haahaahaa ahhahaha.
*Cough* Sorry, this is Nintendo, about the best advice you can get it “Don’t hold your breath.”
However, looking at it, the top flap coloured part may be disconnectable (it’s a real word…), so if you got a black one you might be able to change the colour of that part down the line.
Maybe. But I probably wouldn’t trust me.
-
Really? Maybe Nintendo will probably sell covers like how the old 360 had changeable faceplates.
But isn’t there also colour where the bottom screen is? You don’t suppose that’s disconectable too 😛
-
It really just /looks/ like you might be able to take it off, which means that one night in a drunken haze I’ll probably attempt to remove it, and break my 3DS.
You could always try just dunking a different coloured 3DS in paint. That’s how colouring things works, right?
-
-
-
I want green! They never do a good green.
-
A nice green would would be awesome, but you’re right – they never do it well… besides I’m pretty happy with my black one, I guess.
-
Hey guys… so who wants something for free? lol
So basically, i have a spare copy of Xenosage, episode one on PS2…
If you want it, you have to be able to play NTSC games, as it was never released in PAL territories by myunderstanding..
Jimu, i’m looking at you, as you’re an RPG nut… but basically it’ll just go to whoever wants it..
So who wants it? lol
-
oh here’s the trailer, as well 🙂
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPkF0Kbbv1I
it is in English, so don’t worry about having to read or understand japanese
-
I’ll take it ^^
I’m not sure if you’ll give it to a random like me haha-
You’re not random, we’ve seen you here before. And maybe if Loops gave you an awesome game you’d hang around more often. Win for everyone!
-
yay, I’m noticed! Yeah you’re right, that is a great incentive hehe
-
-
Random or not, looks like it’s all yours, buddy!
Just shoot me an email and we’ll organize it all for you.
troy(dot)cleary(at)hotmail(dot)comanything in brackets is, of course, to be replaced with punctuation.
So you have a modded PS2 that can play it? because i want it to go to someone who can and will play the thing 😛
-
Cheers Loops, I play all my NTSC games on my computer via emulator. I’m currently playing Persona 4 at the moment.
I’ll send an email shortly 😀
-
-
-
I only have Episode II on the PS2. But I can’t play NTSC PS2 titles, only PSOne. 🙁
-
aww that sucks.. i have #2 as well and am still looking for a copy of #3…
do you have the collectors edition with the DVD?-
Sure do. I’m ashamed to say I never got around to finishing the game though.
-
-
-
Thanks but I don’t have a chip…
-
Well, that sucks.. and you call yourself an RPG aficionado!
How can you be without a chip? lol-
Too many good games not enough time to play.
-
-
Question for other who have a 3DS:
Do any of you notice a faint sort of static on the bottom screen? You can’t see it in the main menu, but I’ve found that on my second 3DS (First one got dead pixel mania) the bottom screen has some weird faint vertical flickering, which I can notice more when playing Street Fighter IV (What with the black background and all)
It wouldn’t surprise me if the JB Hi Fi goons gave me a replacement that was dodgy. Gah.
-
I got some stuff occuring when I was playing Pokemon in bright light (direct sunlight, so I had the brightness set to 3), but I think that was different to what you’re describing.
Whatever the case, have a reminder of my friend code (so sad and alone).
1848-1688-1172
wow, i believe i missed TAY all last week…
anyway, is anyone still playing Marvel Vs Capcom 3? because i am 😀
oh and after much pressuring from my friend, i have decided to try and finish Final Fantasy XIII, and damn do i’m loving that game, it makes me sad how much shit it got, i’m really enjoying the characters, and the game just looks SO BEAUTIFUL, AND HAIR PHYSICS DAMN IT, HAAAAAAAAIR PHYSICS!!!!!! oh and the battle system is great as well! the games really making me want to play FF 10 again, just because it was my favorite 😛
anyway, fanboying segment over
-
I’m still playing (and loving) MvC3!
-
whoa…are you me?
I also enjoyed FFXIII, I preordered it. Also FFX is my favourite as well, I’ve finished that game many times.
Went to a Starcraft 2 tournament over the weekend. It was pretty awesome. First place took home $8,000.
Read an interview with him here!
-
*Sees that it’s “Ace”*
*Jizz in my pants!*
Wait, Light made it to the finals? Shit, I know that guy, and he knows my voice, rather strangely… The jokes on the SEA server about Light are things like that he has 35 Actions Per Second.
Apart from Light, the only really competitive Australian player I know is Pinder (Who you can see at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03frd_g6E9E being destroyed by HuK), who doesn’t like to talk to me because I bring up mothership rushes…
Anyway, to actually be on topic, I am so jealous that you got to go to this. Bloody people, with their real cities *Shakes fist.*
-
You know Light? And why does he know your voice. Late night practices aye aye. Haha, I jest!
AFAIK the best Australian SC2 player at the moment is moonglade.
-
-
lolwut? I thought your name was Sir Eats-a-lot not Sit Eats-a-lot… 😛
-
DAMMIT! I was half asleep when I wrote that. Damn weather /shakes fist
-
LittleJJ has an interview at a city branch of the Commonwealth bank today! wish her luck!! she’s dying to get out of the branch she’s working in atm!
-
Wooo, good luck LittleJJ!
-
Good luck to her welbot. Its always good when you can find a solution to your problems in regards to work.
-
Indeed! Speaking of solutions, did you try out the minecraft server yet?
-
-
Good Luck!
-
Good luck J! Although I’m sure you won’t need it. Your new branch awaits. 🙂
-
Good luck LittleJJ, hope it all goes well for ya 🙂
-
BEST WISHES J!!!!
MURDERLISE THEM!!!
DEPOSIT YOUR FOOT INTO THEIR POSTERIOR AND WITHDRAW THEIR HEART WITH YOUR BARE HANDS!!!…oops.. sorry, i’m still in wrestlin’ mode…
Nah haven’t tried it yet cause my sister had to do some stuff yesterday and i couldn’t be bothered doing it yet. Thanks for the tips yesterday. I did google for the awnsers but couldn’t find anything really helpful. I actually bought her the game for a birthday present and she wanted to play with me on a server. But i only have shitty 3g internets thats really laggy. So i thought a offline one will be much faster with a spare router i got from work.
-
this is a reply to welbot. Forgot to reply to him.
I’d like to formally appologise to Strange for subjecting her to my man-boozies.
I completely neglected to warn.
That said, i would like to direct blame to Q-bo and Jamesmac2 for demanding man flesh.
On the plus side, my pale chest is about as metal as it gets!
-
😀
Hey Loops, I just finished reading one of the two Warhammer 40k books you loaned me, First & Only. I gotta say, I now know why the guy I knew at Tafe spoke so highly of it, they’re bloody awesome reads! Thanks for letting me have the chance to dive into Warhammer 40k lore some more, since I’m already a big fan of it from the Dawn of War series.
-
Good stuff mate!!
And it wasn’t a lend, they’re all yours now.. that being said, if you’re done maybe send them along to the next kotakuer that wants a read? heheThey really are truely awesome books. I’ll be looking at getting the gaunts ghosts and last chancers collections when i can 🙂
#pokemon
Hey peoplez who acquired Zorua through DNS trickery! When did you do this? Because I finally got around to trying last night with no luck. I was able to connect to the GTS but didn’t receive anything for it 🙁
Maybe I was just unlucky? Or too late? If you managed to get two of them I’d be willing to trade you one for a shiny new woobat!* 😀
*woobat is not actually “shiny” in the way that you think. But I promise that it is “new”, in that it is 100% untrained.
-
If I’m able to use a ditto to breed a new one, I might be able to help you, you’ve got a good wifi, right?
I’ve tried using the GTS for actual trades, and my god, they have such stupid things.
-
Internet says it should work. So if you get an egg, drop me an email at batguy.kotaku at gmail with your friend code and a suitable time to meet online – then that lovely woobat will be yours!
-
I thought you had to breed it with the Jackal Steel/fighter type from platinum?
Why do I remember so much but can’t remember a simple name????
-
Just in case you haven’t seen this.
YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS.
-
LOL! What the heck?
-
I HAVE NOW SEEN IT!
Totally makes sense as his next move.
-
More research unveils extra details: A full series coming in 2012, Arnold fighting legions of GIRLIE-men, Stan Lee working on a companion comic…
I originally just assumed it was just a one-off joke. But is this an awesomely elaborate April Fool’s joke, or is it for reals?
-
Fo’ realz!
He hinted at this a while ago. I never realised how truly awesome it would be.
-
-
-
Light cycle riding GI Schwarzenegger fights Transformer knock-offs? Hell yes!
-
I endorse this wholeheartedly.
-
Simply awe inspiring… just wow
-
Well, now I know noone is reading my posts…
-
There there… you do post a LOT of stuff! I read them all but don’t follow every link posted in TAY.
-
No, I understand. I never spend much time here when I get home.
All is forgiven…
-
-
My body seems to be lodging an informal protest against existing right now. I don’t enjoy this.
-
Rapid genetic mutation?
Once you discover all your powers, can Kotaku hold a competition to name you? 😀
(Hope you feel better soon, though!)
-
I’ve already decided on a superhero name. I shall be known as the Amazing Guy Who Needs To Lie Down.
-
-
Sick? I’m feeling a little fluish today.
I think this may have been answered recently, so apologies if I’m asking you to repeat yourself, but…
Suggestions for a gaming laptop for my brother? He’s not too worried about price – although he’s unlikely to spend $5000 to buy a crazy Alienware rig.
-
http://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers/samsung/15-inch-notebook-sku-66389/
Looks pretty shiny – $1496 at JB Hifihttp://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers/toshiba/18-inch-notebook-sku-66572/
Uber-shiny – $1967 at JB HifiI have a Toshiba Satellite A500 series laptop that’s ~2 years old now, with a 2.10GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 4Gb of RAM, and a 1Gb Radeon HD 4600 graphics card. Serves me very well for gaming – can play many games on high settings etc. IIRC it could even play Crysis…
Just remember that 32-bit Windows 7 only supports ~3Gb of RAM. If you want more, make sure to install the 64-bit version.
-
I didn’t know that 32bit OS’s limits up to 3gig. I had to check myself since I have 4 gigs and it’s confirmed, says: 4GB (3GB Usable) 🙁
I found a patch though, and it look like it worked. Let’s hope there’s no side effects…
-
Well, I’ve got a day full of medical appointments/scans/etc and then an exam tomorrow I haven’t even begun to study for…
…so, anyone want to sit a quantum mechanics exam for me? 😛
(On the bright side, I’m hopeful my dye injection will result in some Spiderman-like reaction/mutation)
-
Dye injection? Hope you don’t have anything too serious… Good luck.
-
Best of luck with the docs mate. Sounds like you’ve got more than your fair share of probs, so I hope you get better quickly!
Quantum mechanics, are they the ones that take your car, pretend that something incredible has been done, only to return your car slightly more broken than normal inexplicably?
-
Nope, these are the guys who only know where your car is if they have absolutely no idea how fast it’s moving 😛
-
-
Well, I’ve looked at what my Mum’s doing for her Masters, and I think I can manage that (one of her courses is stupidly easily(but the rest are all doctor things that go straight over my head)), so how hard can undergrad (you’re undergrad, right?) level Quantum Mechanics be?
-
I can’t say “Good luck!” cos Allure claims I already did…
So happy medico!
Gah, riding a depression rollercoaster today, so excuse me all if I am glum! But firstly I gotta say how impressed I am by the wrestling videos! So far I have two favourites, my loopy who downed that juice like a real man, and FS who’s video had me lolling and is so corny its great. Showed my kids both videos, Jada (who I think had a crush on FS, until she saw the video…) was slightly disturbed by both videos and said my friends were ‘weird’.
:-/
She also did not find this funny!???
-
Best magician ever!
-
Your daughter is broken.
-
It’s not as funny as this though http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-Q1tlHBNVI&NR=1&feature=fvwp 😀
-
HAHA! I love this guy! I’ve sat in shops so many times and kind of done that in my head…
-
Only in your head? How boring. I do all these, except for Escalators, where I have to stand dramatically, looking to the future.
-
-
I second that your daughter is broken
-
seeing me in person often has that effect on girls….
So, bored and depressed so I am thinking of going down to JB and buying a dsi and pokemons after work.
What is the difference between Black and White?
-
There are a few version exclusives white has more pokemon cause of the white forest. but you can get more exp from black. On a side note cheer up, things always get better even if you think they won’t they do. I have been depressed for weeks at a time bored and lonely the best solution is go do something
, anything that guts you out of a rut. -
Why do you prefer to get a DSi over a 3DS?
-
Cheaper 🙂
-
-
Can you get LITEs anymore?
Cheer up, we love you!!!
-
Awww, thanks Jimu.
Only on ebay I think and they generally go for close to the price of a dsi anyway.
Any sort of ds is all I would need though right? I have no interest in any other games so a couple o hundred bucks for pokemon does sound slightly silly.-
Go to fishpond.com and have a look, DSi XL is like 180 bux! Black is 35!
That is if you can wait a bit.
-
I’m finished with my Black DS Lite if you want one, it’s on the table to anyone that would like one, in pretty good condition as well, just doesn’t have the GBA slot cover and that’s all
-
Really? What would you like for it?
-
Hmm… tell you what, since I’m passing along my DS, I’ll put all my games in as well since obviously I won’t need them. They list as:
Golden Sun: Dark Dawn
Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 days and
Warhammer 40k Squad CommandAll this, DS and 3 games, I can offer for…$150? I’m horrible with estimating pricing so I hope that’s a reasonable price for this package 🙂
-
-
Man, what a great komooniteee!
-
That reminds me. After over a year of searching and turning the house upside down for my DS Lite that my daughter used, my parents found it in the back seat pocket of their car on Sunday.
I’m happy to have it back finally, but kinda disturbed by the fact they obviously don’t really clean their car out. 😛
-
-
Undertaker Winssssss!
-
dude your meant to say spoilers for some of us who havent watched it yet. Gah
-
Oh no! Someone delete!!
-
HA HA wooooooooooooops!
-
My friend said that wrestlemania was on “the other day” so I checked out the fight and not the date. It was yesterday :S My bad.
-
Is OK, we still love ya!
-
-
-
For the love of god just ignore my video in the competition page :0 I R TEH TERRIBLE! GRRRR!!!
-
This is the internet. It never forgets. It never forgives…
Just think: you’re far more likely to win than me 😛
-
I don’t think anyone’s got much of a chance after fat shady’s effort.. unfrtunately, I don’t have the kind of time to put that amount of effort in to it 🙁
-
Sleep is for the weak!!!!
Actually mate, you are right about the time. I didn’t realise when i was doing it because i was just focussed on getting it done, but i really burnt myself out on that one. I think i spent in the order of 15 hours on it since Friday night all up, and that was to make a 5 minute video.
Im glad everyone seems to have liked it but I won’t spend that time again any time soon. It was too much. Really feeling burnt out. I had a day off yesterday to relax because work has been really stressful, and spent the entire day (8am to 5.30pm then back at it from 8pm until 10pm) working on this.
It was great to teach myself video editing and i thrive under intense pressure, but doubt i’ll go to this much trouble again…
-
It’ll be worth it, mate.
I’m pretty bloody positive that you’ll take out one of the first prizes for sure. The amount of quality going around in the comp is insane.
At this point i’m pretty confident i can manage a runners up, but somehow i think i’ll miss out on the major… but man did i ever have fun completely making an ass of myself.
-
-
-
-
Awww welly!!!
I really liked your entry!
You have the best wrestler voice hands-down!I didn’t have a whole bunch of time to do mine either and it was super rushed.. i had planned all these awesome things to say, but because i was blowing through it i completely forgot some corkers and messed up a few times…
Both of mine were only done in single takes because i didn’t have time to go back and perfect it..But yeh, what i’m getting at is that even with little time your entry is pretty bloody bad-ass!
Well, I’ve finished my wrestletastic entry, and uhhh, wow. I really think I’ve outdone myself in terms of fail…
I spent ages recording it, because photo booth kept screwing up, before I remembered I could record straight into iMovie, and my co-star kept biting my finger… Now I’m just waiting for it to export, which seems to take forever, oh well. Good luck to everyone else.
-
And it’s uploaded!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BC5EYMW6FwYUhhh, enjoy? Oh well, I’m too gosu to have shame.
-
heheh nice job sire! have to say you have quite the singing voice! at least you’re in tune!
-
The notes at the end were far too high for me to sing like that, I can only really manage them if I go for “Disney Prince” voice (see Aladdin, or Simba), but whatever, I shall take your compliment, and raise you a shoe. That’s how it works, right? I only ever play Strip Poker…
-
/me swoons!
nice job mate! 😀
-
Thank you Q-bo, I only wish I could get “The Ladies” to swoon so easily.
-
-
Yeah I was thinking of making one too, making a crack about “My CPU can calculate 3,124 ways to take you down… per second!” or something like that to prove my superior hardware to squishy human parts 😛
-
Do it, you still have time! (I don’t just want to stalk every member of Kotaku I can find, that would be silly).
-
lol it’s doubtful I’ll get one made in time, I’m never home alone (F@#ing Trolls/Parents) to do it until this weekend and by then it’s probably too late -.-
But either way, I already have a PS3 so going for the compo isn’t really on my top priority list atm :P. I could make one in the future just for shits and giggles, so that you may see my human face… risky business, I still prefer you all thought of me as a sentient machine though lol
-
-
-
Wow! Did Blagman just throw us all sex eyes after he took off his glasses?
Awesome mate!!!
-
Thanks James Mac The Second, and probably, I tend to throw everyone the sex eyes, it’s never worked though, such a shame.
-
I’ll sex you!
I’m already shirtless and wearing fetching bracers anyway!-
Sorry Loops, you have a penis, so you’re not my type, but thank you for the offer. 😛
-
I’m seeing this comment without context in the CMS.
Awesome.
-
-
Despite you trying to convince us of your unlovely appearance you look pretty much like I expected you to look.
-
So, because of the large number of comments about how hideous I am, you went in expecting a monstrosity, and you got it? I kid, I kid. I know, I’m pretty much just an average looking guy. It’s really quite boring.
Greetings All! Happy Birthday to Sughly for yesterday and my Doppelganger for the week before.
Ordered a fightstick today. Went for the Blazblue TE, same components as the Mad Catz SF TE but $100 cheaper for 360. I have decided to ban myself from MvsC3 and SSF4 til it arrives. I am going to use this as an opportunity to tackle the dirty little secret that each and every one of us has….the dreaded pile of shame! I’m notorious for raiding bargain bins and second handers and have so many so close but unfinished games. I feel that by making a public commitment i will be able to finally churn through a few. This week shall be Transformers WFC and the firts Kane and Lynch. Wish me luck!
-
Tanks! 😀
-
LUCK!
-
Thanks JM2.
Transformers was the business… let me know about Kane and Lynch, I keep eyeing that one off in bargain bins myself.
-
gl, hf!
-
Transformer WFC is ‘da bomb’
I loved every minute of it.
It’s just so satisfying when you get a robo-headshot and watch them go *pop*… 😀
As a respected fashion icon, I can say with confidence that food poisoning is NOT the ‘New Black’
Been up all night ejecting sloppy brown jets of horror from my mouth and anus.
The only sleep I have managed to achieve was on the bathroom floor.
-
I wasn’t round yesterday, but didn’t you eat raw spam?
-
I first read that as eat raw sperm. There’s something wrong with my mind.
-
You’ve made me wonder what cooked sperms taste like?
-
Simultaneously worse and very slightly better than you could possibly imagine (exceedingly slight).
-
-
Couldn’t be sperm, if he ate sperm he’d be preganant.
WAIT!!!
maybe it’s morning sickness!!!-
:O
I SMELL A BABY SHOWEEEERRRR!!! *SQUEE*
-
-
-
I ate Spam straight from the can, true, but that stuff is precooked. Also that was Saturday.
I think it was a chicken salad I had yesterday.
I. Feel. So. Rotten.-
Just checked out that thread about spam eating on the first page, you say something pretty prophetic!
-
Haha! So true.
-
-
I don’t much like the taste of sperm.
Personally i prefer to fill up a tub with the stuff and get in while it’s nice and warm and REALLY rub it in nice and good…My skin has never felt so tingly and smooth!
-
Fill up a tub…that’d be more effort than I’d be bothered with.
-

New idea, imagine a penis in front of a smiling mouth.
There, that was so much easier than my levels of fail.
-
You were almost there – if you did it right, I would probably have had to trash it – so that’s a small victory!
-
it’s not the legibility, it’s how you use it…
-
I guess as it is now, people can look at it, squint, get the right idea, and we won’t offend the ladies (Somehow I’m not actually seeing any of the regulars actually being offended, but I can understand if Marky had to censor it).
-
-
-
Hey Mark, by now you’ve probably realised that my 3DS friend code is invalid (most likely due to the fact that I don’t own a 3DS) 😀
The code was merely a creative way for me to state my opinion of the 3DS without starting a flame war. My code was “waste of money” converted to numbers by a mobile phone keypad.
So, it was sort of a late April fools prank… 😀
-
bahahaha, nicely played mate! xD
-
Rrrriiiiiiiiiiiight…
Well, my video entry is up, actually it was up a while ago. But I’ve added subtitles to it, because it’s a bit hard to understand what I say sometimes.
Anyway, you can find the video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGSzZZVoeSM
-
lol, love how you lost it at the end! Nicely done!
-
Lost it? Oh, wait, you mean when the green screen fell down? That was not on purpose, the blu-tak had had enough of being useful 😛
-
I went for a run last night… and I think I’ve hurt my foot.
But, like the manly man I am, I shall not complain.
Also, I had ‘The Double’ for lunch… it was not the dumbest thing I’ve ever done, but it was not the smartest either.
I may do a reader review.
-
Can he?
Gamers to tend to eat take out!-
Maybe a full piece on the metaphorical extension between a lack of bread and a lack of sense of completion and purpose to life.
An examination of the grease patterns and how that relates to mankinds sense of self.
A treatise on how the ‘burger’ is really an extension on our never ending quest for self fulfillment.
A comparison tale on the burning of indegestion, the warmth of shame, the cold loneliness one finds when eating it, the unmitigated remorse one feels as they wash it down, knowing they’ll never wash clean their soul.-
Unmitigated remorse would be the right term.
After eating it I felt like I’d run a bus full of nuns off a bridge into a ravine.
-
I just felt sleepy.
-
Flying Nuns?
-
-
-
I think one of the writers for the US Kotaku did a “review” of it when it came out over there.
-
I’ve finished Nier. Should I now do the second half again with New Game+ to see another ending or three?
-
I suggest taking a break by completing another game first. I tried doing it straight up and even though youget to see quite a bit of extra stuff all the gameplay is the same thing.
The stuff I did see was classic though!
Also tragic or heartwarming, quite the game!
Just posted my vid.
On another note. Has anyone seen my dignity? Can’t seem to find it anywhere…
Yakuza, anyone?
Finally stopped playing Shogun 2 for a day, to give Yakuza 4 a good crack. Boy, have I missed punching (well, kicking, as Akiyama’s case may be) people in the face. Good times.
But… this Hostess Club business that made such a furore when it was cut from Yakuza 3. Hostess Clubs, from what I gather, are just clubs where to pretty much pay for a lady (or ladies) to sit down with you and serve you drinks, make conversation, laugh at your jokes, etc etc. Apparently it’s a way for businessmen to unwind. It’s… weird. On the customer side of things, it is, perhaps, a fascinating insight into strong cultural nightlife of Japan (and its seedier elements, being a game about Yakuza and all). It’s just a bizarre thing to comprehend. It’s like that moronic gaming service that makes you pay to play with females, except not aimed at stupid gamers and (evidently) isn’t such a stupid idea, so I guess it’s not like that at all, but I digress.
The Club Manager aspect though, it freaks me out a little. You basically dress up and train your hostesses to, well, be the best/get the most money, I suppose. I like dressing up video characters, any game that lets me customise my player character(s) is just weirdly fun for me, because clearly this is directed at totally manly dudes like myself who brofist and eat Zinger Double Downs. But the fact that I am essentially dolling up these women to spend time with men for profit makes me feel like a Pimp. It’s only mental prostitution of sorts, sure, but it makes me uncomfortable. Also the fact that one of the hostesses that has been modelled on an actual Japanese lady who just so happens to be a porn star does not help.
Hostesses are a strange concept and I just can’t wrap my head around it.
Speaking of Strange and Yakuza (oooooooooh, what a segue!):
Strange, did you ever recover your Yakuza 3 saves from your pooped PS3? I just noticed that I have Y3 saves at the beginning of every chapter, so if it saves you from playing the dreaded Golf minigame, I can try export a save off my PS3, however that works, and try send it to you/upload it somewhere like Mediafire.
-
Sounds fun, PS3 exclusive right?
-
Yeah.
Probably could find Yakuza 3 for cheap and give that a crack; it’s not a game for everyone, so you might want to test the waters. Although it is Japanese-y and RPG-y so you probably will like it, so long as you also like punching guys in the face.
Although, Yakuza 4’s storyline is pretty self contained so maybe in that regard it’s easy to get into. You’ll miss some references and the significance of old characters may be lost a little, but nothing major. Oh, except I’m up to the death row inmate’s story, and I was totally fighting Kazuma on the beach at sunset outside his orphanage and got my arse handed to me and it was ammmmmmmaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazzzzzzzziiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnngggggg.-
Is the old ones on PS2? I have one a dem!
-
Yeah!
1 and 2 are on PS2, though I’ve never actually seen 1 around. But I hear the dubbing for that is hilariously terrible, and I am pretty sure Mark Hamill voices someone.
2 I’ve seen on UK sites, but from the summary 3 gave, the story sounds horribly convoluted and I was confused.
-
-
-
-
I wanna dress Hostesses up! But first I’ll have to finish Yakuza 3. And thanks Bishy for the offer of saves but I already did the golf again so I’m all good now.
-
Okily-dokily!
Gotta say though, one of the things ‘wrong’ about the actual dressups is that you hostess is rated between Cute, Conservative, Flashy and Gorgeous in terms of appearance, except none of the clothes/accessories/makeup indicate what contributes to which factor, so it’s just unfortunate trial and error. Apparently having Type 3 black eyebrows, Type 2 fuschia lipstick, blue eyeshadow and blue contacts makes someone “Gorgeous”? There’s a tip for all the ladies (and hey, men too, why not. Look how far Hugo Weaving’s come since Priscilla) out there.
-
I’ve made a new vid for the wrestling comp, and quite frankly, imnsho I think it’s the best response…ever http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMXGHAFpYpE 😀
THORHAMMER BEOWULF!
-
WHOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
-
LOL! I like his response to what did you want to be growing up – “a plunderer, a pillager and corporate lawyer”
I’m sure I wouldn’t find this nearly as amusing if I was sober, but old Penny Arcade ftw!
The Adventures of Buttercup, Part 16: Beware the Liar Ahead
To be honest, I’m not sure if I want to finish this section of the game and face Maneater or just go somewhere else for a little while.
-
Yeah, go somewhere else. Now might be a good time for 2:1 or 4:2.
Also, your talk of rings made me think of something that bugs me about games. Why are game characters usually limited to one or two rings when they obviously have ten fingers on which to put them?-
I think the generally accepted mechanics of magic rings is that the magic messes up if they are in close proximity to each other. Or something like that.

I’ve only seen one game answer this, and I don’t remember which one, but the basic idea was that the magic effect of rings would be nullified if more than one was on each hand… didn’t explain why the guy couldn’t hang a dozen amulets around his neck though…
I bet if I tried, I could get 30+ rings onto my hands, maybe even 50 (and if you count toes too, that number goes even higher) and probably a dozen or more amulets around my neck…
Which is sure as hell what I’d be doing if I was ever in any kind of dangerous fantasy world. 🙂
-
Surprisingly, 2-1 and 4-2 were the two options I was considering. At the moment, I’m leaning towards 2-1 because I want to get Fire Spray as well as just explore someone else. 4-2 only stands out as somewhere to farm souls, but I can’t do that very efficiently with my current build and more importantly, I don’t want to do that.
I’m trying to avoid grinding and just naturally progress through the game.
As for the ring thing, I never got that either. I want to be like a pimp dammit, let me coat my fingers in rings! If I don’t have room on my fingers, let me string them on a necklace.
-
There was this sweet game on Mega Drive…Ringmaster I think. You could equip two rings on each hand and doing so would mix the effect, so water and fire would make a fire ball move out as a wave. Was good!
-
-
Firetruck Maneater.
I can’t decide whether I hate it or Flamelurker more.-
This is my first playthrough, but I definitely not looking forward to dealing with Flamelurker or Maneater. Methinks having a few more spells handy and possibly many more soul levels might be useful.
-
Flamelurker is all about reading his moves and predicting what he’ll do (although I suppose you could say that for a bunch of the other bosses, but Flamelurker in particular). It’s all about quick reflexes, unfortunately, which I have none of.
I think grinding only meant I went from a 2HKO to a 3HKO. He clawed my face off real good. =(

Am I Cursed with Nintendo Products this week!?
The MicroSD card on my DS shit itself last night, and since I’m so good at backing up (I never do it!!) I lost all of my saves and games.
That close to completion save with all the Downloadable quests from DQ9? Gone. Pokemon from all 4 generations about to be migrated to my new, un-dog-chewed copy of Pokemon White on my 3DS? GONE!! All I have are a few of my un-sold cartridges with saves on them from 2008.
AAAAUUUGHHH
*Flails arms around angrily*
Everyone, BACK UP YOUR SAVES!! So many years of progress gone. 🙁
-
does the drive show up when you put it in a pc? you migth be able to run some data recovery software on it
-
Nope, it’s stuffed bad. Occasionally gets detected, cannot be formatted at all, all data is gone.
I was hoping I could re-format the card then run something like Recuva to at least rescue my save data, but even doing a re-format under Mac OSX’s terminal didn’t work, and even using Disc Utility had the estimated time steadily go UP. From 4 minutes to 20 hours, What the hell?
All my pokemon, bah. I even had a charmander I kept migrating between emulators, roms and legit games for about 5 years. Gone. FFFFFFF-
-
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
I didn’t know you could move stuff off the cartridge onto a SD(I still have a LITE).
How were those extra quests on DQIX???
My dodgy router is dodgy and dodgy dodgy…I fix it one day.-
I have a CycloDS and EZ-Flash 5 in 1 card for the GBA slot. It allows me to copy cartridges… rather slowly.
That, and play all the translated games I want(ed), like Tales of Innocence and Dragon Ball: Ultimate Butoden.
GODDAMNIT I LOST ALL OF THOSE AS WELL, AUGH!
Download Quests in DQIX you get by talking to Patty(I think that’s her) in the quester’s rest, I think after you’ve completed the main storyline. You get all sorts of goodies each week through a special shop as well, meaning I also lost all of the unique armors as well. I no longer get to roam around as Taloon. 🙁
BALLZACK.
-
Sorry, EZ Flash 3 in 1. Bah.
http://www.ozmodchips.com/ezflash-v-3in1-plus-gba-expansion-black-p-142.html
-
Ahhhhhhhhh I see. I really want to check them, were they timed?
I got all the way up to the top of Temple of Nod to a boss that sleeps and presumably wakes after a DL mission.
Cut me but good! -
The quests themselves aren’t timed, you can download every single one that’s been released so far.
As for the store, it’s wares change weekly, so chances are you might permanently miss out on some special armor that’s already passed.
Talking about this just makes me more depressed over the fact I lost my save. >_<
-
-
-
That definitely sucks. My R4 died a while ago, but everything was backed up and very little of it was worth salvaging anyhow. Somehow, all of my important DS saves are on the original cartridges.
Kookaburras laughing at you right outside your window at 6am is not the greatest way to wake up.
-
You’re lack of patriotism is causing Big Kev to turn in his grave right now, i hope you realise.
Well, it never happened. I had an idea a short script in my brain. After I finished my fatherly duties I was soo tired I went to bed early, so …no wrestling vid. DAMMIT, I really wanted to win a PS3.
-
Sorry to hear, mate 🙁
There were some absolutely killer entries over night anyway.. i’m really biting my nails to the nub over this one…
-
I gave up too. Way to hard to do on my own and i now have ‘Loops’ written poorly, undertaker style on my neck that doesn’t want to wash off….
To all the people that have entered the comp over night
KHHAAAAAAAANNNNNNN!!!!
*ahem*
Damn you guys are good lol
Ok guys.. help me out here…
I’m thinking of saving up every penny i have to get the balls of steel edition of Duke Nukem from JB HI Fi.
http://www.jbhifi.com.au/games/duke-nukem-forever-balls-of-steel/
Thoughts?
It’s pretty bad ass…
-
-
Sorry, didn’t mean to just post the link. Fishpond currently have it for $119. Around the price you pay for a normal version at EB or the like.
-
You, ma’am, are a gentlewoman and a scholar.
-
-
-
My honest opinion? Not worth it.
You will never use the postcards, chips, cards or dice. You’ll flip through the comic and the book once. You’ll fold the paper craft once, think about using the sticker, then them both back in the box forever. The bust looks ok, but will end up in the spare room with a cap on it or something.
You will play the game for many, many hours – but you could get exactly the same experience without being conned by the publishers into paying an extra $70 for stuff that cost them about $5 to produce.
Can you tell that I’m cynical about “collector’s” editions? They rarely contain anything of value, or even amusement value longer than 5 minutes, and are just an attempt by the publishers to extort more money out of their main supporters.
Hey, you *did* ask!
-
I like the ones that give you ‘free’ DLC, half of the time only a bonus weapon like a sword or shotgun.
Thaaaaaaaaaaanks guys, this is totally worth the premium!-
DLC content is good. I also dig a nice artbook that I’ll flick through every now and then.
-
-
I usually don’t bother.. as everyone knows, i’m a thrifty gamer… but this is an absolutely epic CE in my opinion.. for $30 extra over the RRP i can get all that fancy swag!
Maybe i’m just a sucker like that…I just think it’s a fantastic price for all that stuff, considering most ce’s these days with that amount of stuff cost upwards of $200..
-
-
Preordered mine from EB (don’t judge me!) a couple of months back.
The bust looks awesome, and was the whole reason for the preorder.
-
Cancel that pre-order go to fishpond and save yourself a bundle!
Or are you the type that can’t wait?
I know it’s hard but I think it’s worth it.
-
Anyone interested in a good comic?:

Oooo… looks intriguing I must admit.

Nice. And in sexy hardcovers too! My wallet damns you Jimu!!!!

And mine you.

Amazing how Kotaku went down for a moment at approximately the same time that WordPress released an update. Strange coincidence that :p
-
Could it be that KotakuAU is powered by wordpress?
-
It could very well be powered by WordPress. Although I don’t think that has ever been hidden from the public view.
-
So, I’ve started playing Dead Space (I know, I know, about 3 years late). I’m surprised by how frickin’ terrifying it is. I’ve only done chapters 1 and 2 so far, and already I’m a nervous wreck. 🙂 The atmosphere is incredible – I’ve never played anything like it before.
I keep teetering between turning it off and sticking it in the freezer, or the option of continuing to play.. which I think is the intended effect.
-
Yeah, the husband could only play for about an hour, max before being reduced to a tightly wound ball of shrieking, terror and stress.
-
I enjoyed the atmosphere, but never really experienced any of that – definitely some tense moments, just nothing that turned me into a quivering lump.
…does this mean I’m desensitized?
(the answer is probably a yes… for videogames, at least)
-
The answer is probably just that you’re more manly than my husband and Shane. 😛
-
-
Anyone here good at gardening and can give me some tips?
I really want a herb and vege garden but I’m completely absent-minded and bad with living things(I’m constantly surprised my kids are still alive).
I think I’m going to need a landscaper to come and do it for me and leave very detailed instructions on how to make it not die. I’m good at Viva Pinata but something tells me that’s not enough experience. 😛
-
I was going to make a reference to Harvest Moon and unlocking the golden watering can. Then I remembered that I can’t remember anything about that game aside from there being a golden watering can.
-
It’s funny, I was going to mention Harvest Moon but then I realised I couldn’t remember anything about it, having only played the first one and that aeons ago.
-
All I remember is that you needed some mystical item before you could get married…
-
1. Power Apples to boost your max stamina.
2. Rest in the hot spring to restore stamina. Also, eating random coloured grass/mushrooms/bamboo shoots never seems to hurt. Oh, unless they’re poison mushrooms, give them to the Japanese ex-ninja lady who runs the local inn and hotsprings, alongside the mermaid.
3. Also, befriend gnomes so that you may trick them into doing the work for you. This way your farm will pretty much be self sufficient, while you go into dungeons and level up.
4. ???
5. Profit!Oh also, Pickled Turnips turn in a crazy profit, when just compared to shipping off normal turnips. You only need level 1 cooking skill!
-
That sounds like Back to Nature to me. Never was one for the cooking thing they introduced. All this extra gobble gabble, I dont care for it! Just want my simple SNES version please.
-
Haha, Actually a mix of Harvest Moon and Rune Factory (which just so happens to be subtitled “A Fantasy Harvest Moon”). I think they just started adding way too much stuff, and then they really screwed up with Islands of Happiness on the DS. Buggy and horrible forced touch screen interface. They kind of went back to basics and simplified it with Grand Bazaar, but the Bazaar was just a bit of a novelty, so it fell flat. So I think in these regards, the original SNES version was most tight and well crafted game. It was deep, but not overly complex.
Rune Factory 3 is like the culmination of most everything good they have learned from both RF1&2 and HM.

Well, here’s a tip, stay away from bees!
Augh, I actually had a serious response to this before Kotaku did a blank page thing and ate my reply.
Anywho, tips gathered from Gardening Australia and Better Homes & Gardens, neither of which I actually watch, so I’m not really sure how I know this but:
Dig up the patch of soil you plan to plant in, to aerate the soil and try mix in some nutritional soil (which you can buy at Bunnings), and use mulch reduce evaporation and keep the soil healthy. Might want to consider using a seaweed mix to enrich the soil. If this is a part of your backyard though, you might need to brick off the area real good. We’ve currently got grass and weeds all over the soil the Roses get their water from, but we’re too lazy to clear it out. The roses have seen better days.
If you’re doing it in pots, you can also mix in water crystals that absorb water and release it slowly over a few days, in case you don’t water them.
Different plants need different amounts of sunlight. This means you’ll need to plan what to plant based on which side of the house is free.
Afternoon sun is generally considered to be too harsh for many plants.
Potting mix/fresh soil and manure are excellent investments, always. 🙂
Herbs and veges are pet magnets (and SNAIL magnets) so placing them out of reach (and maybe snail pellets if you’re not morally against the idea) if possible is a consideration.
Also, you should set a daily alarm on your phone or something to remind you to water them, as this is a daily (at least) requirement to begin with.
My wife has tried several times to plant things… the weeds always thrive (though so far she’s managed to keep some roses alive, so that’s something).
That’s everything I know about gardening, I’m afraid.
LittleJJ has a herb garden. Had one at our last place too. Definitly need to brick off the area if it’s not a pot. Even though our herbs grew exceptionally well at our last house, the grass wouldn’t stop getting in there. Now we have a little corner garden in our courtyard which is free from grass, and doing ok. Some of the herbs don’t like it in there due to the lack of sunlight, but some are doing quite alright. Definitly need to airate the soil with a fork.. that’s a must. Then depending on how you’re starting will determine the soil to buy. You can buy special soil if you’re starting from seedlings, or if you’re going with establised plants, you can buy special soil with enhancements for veggies and herbs. If you start from seedlings, buy the seedlin soil, and cut holes in the bag, and plant your seedlings right in the bag. They’ll thrive that way. Planting in the ground can be touch and go for seedlings. Sometimes they’ll do well, others they wont. If you have any other questions, feel free to email me or hit me up on facebook
Thanks for the replies. I figure based on your advice I’ll start with a pot of a few herbs and if I don’t kill them I’ll move onto the garden. In which case I’ll hire Welbot to help me….
Hey Jo replied to your DS Lite question last page, please take a gander and tell me what you think 🙂
-
Sorry, work was wanting me to work or something.
Yeah, I was looking on ebay last night and DS:L seemed to go for about $120 from australia and around $100 from china with a bunch of free (though probably dodgy) games.
I hate having these kinds of covos cause I end up sounding like a jerk but yeah. Also, would newer games such as Poke B/W struggle at all on the DS with its lesser specs?
-
Well I’ve always noticed lag on my Lite in terms of graphics in many games, most recently Golden Sun:DD and that was one disappointment indeed. It even made me say out loud “Oh come on! You really can’t keep up good frames on that?!”. Usually happened when the party separated all at once like they used to do in their GBA prequels. But it wasn’t often enough to be a nuisance, so I’m sure it’s okay.
I’m not sure about resolution though for the new Pokemon games, it might look crap on a Lite’s screen size, not sure how it works honestly. So it might struggle though I can’t prove it nor find out for myself at this time.
Lol no you’re not a jerk, that’s just stating facts. 100 is fine, I can tell you that my games are in good condition.
-
The new Pokemon games work perfectly fine on the DS Lite.
-
Fear not!
All the DSs are the same with different features.
So all games will run the same on all DSs.
-
Anyone who bought a 360 at launch, does yours still work?
I’ve still got mine working and it’s only RROD once Nov 2007, at a bad time too. When I just received my Halo 3 Legendary and was about to put it in for the first time the infamous red lights came on.
-
My friend bought one at launch, he then sold it to me when the Elite model came out.
Mine is long dead. Back when Modern Warfare 2 came out, I was playing through the campaign and the graphics started getting rather screwy. A few days later, it was dead and I just bought an Arcade model and stuck my old hard drive in it.
-
I have an old Arcade model (not sure if launch or not, as I bought it second-hand), but it’s still running.
It flashes red lights at me from time to time (has done this twice so far), but if I give it time in the naughty corner, it’s always working again the next day… though I guess I should prepare for the inevitable.
-
My first launch 360 bit the dust two weeks after I bought it (not RROD, but still a hardware fault). That one was replaced at no charge for one the worked for about 2 years or so before RROD. Sent it off to get repaired under the 3-year warranty, and it worked fine for a while. It eventually RROD again outside of warranty, and rather than pay $150 to have it repaired (who knows how long it would have lasted after a second repair?) I forked out the cash for an Elite version, which has had no problems since.
-
I got an arcade on release. Lasted bout two and a half years. Replaced twice by Microsoft with reconned lauch models (can tell by serial numbers) each lasted just over eight months. Got a new 4gb slim now. Scared at how hot it gets…..
-
I’ve got a 2006 20gb console still going strong (and sounds like an aircraft). I had a RROD in 2008 i think, repaired it myself and it is still working… Let’s hope Q-bo has the same experience.
I have however had friends with at least 5-6 RROD’s over the years.
-
whoa 6 times, that’s crazy lol
I guess I’m lucky getting a well built/repaired console. I was a bit naive back in the day reading everyone complaining about their RROD problems thinking “nah, it’ll never happen to me”. Boy was I wrong…and I’m hardly ever wrong 😛
-
-
Mine stopped working ~10 January last year, so it almost made it 4 years… I wasn’t too upset – repaired it, went for about 3 months without a problem but now it’s a bit temperamental. Don’t really use it anymore though, so I don’t mind.
I’ve owned more expensive things that didn’t last as long (and I always try to take good care of my stuff)

Watch this. Hilarity ensues.
My opinion: Console gaming is better than PC gaming.
You know your game is going to run properly on console, and run the way the developers intended it to. They not only have the ability to test on a machine exactly the same as yours, but are also able to design and develop specifically for it.
PCs are multi use tools, and gaming is heavily affected by this. If you have a framerate issue (or any issue really) it’s possible that the game performance is being affected by other software. Even the OS you’re using can make a big difference.
Consoles are an easy entry point into gaming. Increasing the amount of people that play games is only a good thing.
Personally, I like the ability to sit on a couch with a few mates and play some games together. That isn’t as easy on PC.
Agree? Disagree?
-
Ooh, dangerous topic.
I personally prefer consoles for the reasons you have stated. I even prefer controllers to the keyboard and mouse control you get with PCs in maybe 90% of cases. Now that all the consoles have USB ports, I just wish that console games would add K&M support as a standard option (where appropriate). Then we could have the best of both worlds!
-
Yeah see this is what puts me off consoles. I’m the first to admit, I can’t use a controller adequately enough to be great at any PS3/Xbox360 game, especially not in FPSes. Feel free to laugh at me.
I preferred PC because of a more personal reason than just a petty PC fanboy remark. I play my games on my PC because it feels so great being able to play a game at maximum graphics levels with good framerates on something I built myself from a bunch of parts I purchased. A bunch of parts that were put together to form a very unique machine, that barely anybody else would have the same exact specs to what I have created.
Also I’m one of those kinds that have multiple windows on a screen at the same time, usually running a game in a window while chatting on MSN/Skype, or also watching a movie, if the game I’m playing is of Civilization (Turn-based) variety.
-
I just have my laptop sitting on the coffee table while I’m console gaming. I think it does an even better job than having to alt-tab between gaming and other stuff!
-
-
-
I wrote a response to this that may or may not have be eaten by internet gremlims and therefore reinforce your point. I think it boils down to budget. I do the majority of my gaming on a console but would quite happily play the odd game on PC if i could afford the setup.
-
I agree with a lot of that.
I will say that I get shirty when people blame consoles for simplifed mechanics.
I’m nearly thirty dammit, I work hard in a job that requires thought and complex decision making. I’m not stupid, and the presupposition that because I play on a console I cannot handle difficult gameplay vexes me greatly. Controllers have a tonne of buttons, with cameras and voice control the imput means are exponentially increased, surely the greater limit is poor development planning.-
THIS!
-
-
Im a consoler, I’m finding many of the reasons I preffered consoles are starting to dissapear as the line between console and PC begins to blur.
This whole internet connectivity thing has really thrown things out of whack, since now they can release a buggy peice of crap and patch it up later.
Still knowing nothing about building or maintaining a computer consoles are still my first choice.
Another thing, I’ve come to realise as my life becomes busier and busier that handhelds are way better than everything else. There is the obvious portability but also the non-patching as a good handheld should have cartridges.
Not so happy with downloadable games. I can see the highlights of not having to carry any extra games around but I also know that all sorts of silly systems that support the games can stop you from playing. Give me a hard copy any day!
-
WOW, I read your post and actually expected the next 10 replies being PC fanboys. I guess i underestimated your maturity Kotaku community.. my bad!
I agree with everyone else, consoles are just easier to maintain, fixed cost, easy entry etc etc.
I do like the odd bit of modding in certain games so would be nice to have the openness and flexibility of the PC platform supported, but i can deal with it. Im a console dude…
I do however have no issues with gaming on a PC, but my PC specs are so bad i normally could not play them anyway.
-
Almost everyone
-
I’m glad you spoke up… what a shitty debate when we all agree! I want conflict damn it!!!
-
agreed
-
Made my case in reply to Batguy xD.
So trying not to make it sound like a PC fanboy burst, but PC gaming is my personal preference, nothing against consoles, I just wish I had more PC gaming allies to tag up with online. 🙂
-
-
-
-
I’m a master race kind of guy, but I’ve probably used my console more for gaming in the last year than my computer. Although, if it were the last six months, the pc would win, thanks to Starcraft 2. Consoles are stuck being a snapshot of technology, which gives them advantages (optimisation), but also limits them.
Also, I suck with controllers, and think that all console RTS’ should burn. In the end, the majority of arguments just turn into this: http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2002/9/23/
-
I’m a PC gamer through and through. For me it’s that I can upgrade in small steps rather than massive leaps, and since I’m handy with hardware, I can do it myself (although, I really wish I was handier with circruitry, I’d love to mod). Also, software modding/user content is more prevalent which can lead to amazing new experiences.
Finally, I’m a strategy fan, which just works better on the PC.
P.S. Also, I can minimise and jump on the net
P.P.S Also, if my girlfriend doesn’t feel like gaming I’m not taking up the TV
P.P.P.S BUT I WANT RDR SO BAD
-
My wife watches the majority of her TV online while playing Spider and chatting on mSN.
-
-
Thing is though, people who do PC game? They do like to tinker. Some people do like to dive into Metro 2033, turned DX11 and PhsyX on, and play with the ini file, just to see some sweet, sweet smoke effects. I must have run the Far Cry 2 benchmarker a dozen times just to find a sweet spot, just so I could watch fire spread and consume everything in its path. And I was so delighted when my initial Just Cause 2 DX11 benchmark clocked in at an average of 70FPS. I know it isn’t for everyone, and a lot of people don’t exactly have a beastly computer just for gaming, but for PC enthusiasts who do, it’s just another way to enjoy gaming.
But for those who don’t care, pop in the disc and go is a winner. Heck even I wouldn’t want to fiddle with my PS3 if I had the chance (and I guess I did have chance before a bunch of firmware updates, huh). It’s there for games, and that’s all I want it to do.-
I’m stuck running all the games on super-low these days, but back when I was moderately competitive graphically, I did love messing around, trying to find the perfect balance.
Then again, I am a huge nerd.
-
-
yep I agree RTS is crap on console, but I actually prefer (and I know i’m the minority on this) using a controller for FPS games over keyboard and mouse. Although Portal was a bit difficult. I know controllers are more difficult to use in terms of aiming, but that also means it’s more satisfying when you’re successful with it.
Tech, i’d never thought about the satisfaction of building your own machine to play on but it’s interesting. I guess building it all and getting a game to run as best as you can on your hardware has become a game in and of itself.
-
One of the main reasons why I think PC gaming is better than consoles is video game prices. A few examples: Lego star wars 3, from EBGames, $80 for consoles, $50 for PCs and $30 off Steam. Crysis 2 also from EBGames, $110 for consoles, but only $90 for PC, $70 if you get it off Steam. Portal 2 pre-order from JB Hi-Fi, $80 for consoles, $70 for PC and only $45 on Steam. Call of Duty Black Ops from EBGames, $120 for consoles, $100 for PC and $90 off Steam. I could keep going on, but it gets a bit predictable after a while…
But then again, you can rent console games, but you can’t rent PC games…
Was there someone on Kotaku who made indy games for XBLA?
I’m wondering how feasable it would be to make a TIE Fighter knock off for xbox.
I actually went and checked my stats in Demon’s Souls, for those curious about how Buttercup is actually progressing.

So I was waiting at a bus stop today and it was near a train station and two cops came up and talked to me. Asked for my ID, wrote down all my information, radioed in to confirm I was who I said I was and asked me questions about whether I normally hang out around train stations.
They completely ignored the 30 something Indian woman and the 15 or so year old girl in a school uniform that were also there and went straight to me. The reason being I’m an 18 year old guy. I get why they went for me. People my age are normally idiots who like to cause trouble. The cops were just doing their jobs. Still doesn’t stop me from feeling insulted that they thought of me as just another riff raff punk kid.
Just thought I’d share that story. It’s the most interesting thing that’s happened to me in weeks.
-
there may have been a crime where the suspect matched your general description.. so they were just following it up mate.. unless they were pricks about it, would not take it personally, you may not know the whole story.
-
Yeah thats weird. I would only understand it if you were drinking or even just disturbing people for whatever reason, but to just do it unprovoked… yeah, weird.
-
Well, if they’d asked the Indian woman those questions… they’d have been done for being racist and sexist.
But a bigger question is… why isn’t that girl in school?
-
I’m constantly being mistaken as a drug dealer/user. Both by the police and dealers/users all over the world.
After you’ve been searched on a train in Austria, and pulled over by cops in New Mexico you start to get used to it. -
From when I was about 16 until maybe 26 i was constantlt stopped and harrassed by coppers.
Didn’t help I had long hair and a metal shirt
Disn’t help I worked nights so on my night off would make midnight trips to 7-11Still.
Got a little older. Got a nice haircut and I can do what I want when I want-
Yup. Long hair and metal shirts’ll do it. I remember when I was in my late teens and I had half my head shaved and constantly wore black jeans and metal shirts if I went into a shop the assistants would always blatantly stare at me, watching my every move in case I was going to shoplift.
-
got kicked out of a bottlo 1 night, dude refused 2 tell me why
-
You used to get around with a half-shaved head?
Blind. Mown.
What else are you hiding from us with this innocent mother act? 😛
-
Well, a few years after growing out the half-shaved head I shaved the whole thing shiny-bald.
Oh and I used to have various piercings in my face but now I only have my ears and nose pierced. I actually keep forgetting the nose one is there. It’s kinda lame, maybe I should buy a more hardcore nose-ring to scare the other parents at the school with. 😛 -
When I was 7 my Mum had a nose ring, back then they were far less common. The other Mum’s used to totally avoid mine!

Living in Canberra is great, the cops will not approach you, unless you start screaming “Help, help, this guy is shanking me.” Okay, that’s a little harsh, but the law enforcement treats it like a small town.
Unless you live in the actual north or south suburbs *Shudders* they’re wicked places, filled with Bogans (I have had an exceedingly sheltered life).
-
Did you have a bag or something with you? Was it near a notorious (well, so to speak) train station? It sounds like they were looking for someone.
And, if it’s any consolation, they generally treat their colleagues just as bad as any other potential scum… so don’t feel too hard done by! 😛
This is another private message for Q-Bo.. Like you didn’t read it last time…
Anyway, just posting here so you see it but congrats on getting the xbox repaired. I will however ask that you hold your excitement or keep some in reserve as my track record suggests that you get a couple of weeks out of it then it may go again. I have fixed 4-5 and only one of them (thankfully mine!!) has actually stood the test of time.
But good luck. Any horror stories of opening the case for the first time. My first time i stabbed myself in the hand with a very sharp object… removing the 7 clips at the back or taking off the x-clamp are crazy hard when you don’t know what you are doing. I can strip down a console now in a few minutes without injuring myself… but when i first did it it took me over 1/2 hour and many curse words were said!
-
Heh the cutting thing is nothing. I work with a guy who zapped himself on a capacitor inside a charging thing and then went back to figure out what zapped him, classic.
-
Secret reply that only FatShady can see. So far so good! 😀 I think I gave a run down of the whole process on page 1 of TAY. I only ended up mildly bleeding once, a scrape of the hand across the circuit board. I remember you having some troubles with making the repairs stick, I think if it goes again, I’ll get another of those screw kits and do the other x-clamp as well. And go to the trouble of getting some proper thermal compound. But so far, so good! touch wood!
*hands between legs.-
dont bother fixing the second one. The one you repaired was the GPU and this is the problem. The taller one is the CPU and this is NOT the problem. You’ll just be wasting cash.
-
Wow, so many words.
I am a tadpole swept out to sea ….
Anyway, I’ve owned Oblivion for like 2 years but have always felt too frustrated by only being able to make an ugly character and also some performance glitches due to not havign a great computer. I recently got a new laptop through work though and figured I’d give it one last try. Chucked Oblivion on + no CD crack b/c I hate disks in drive, and made just soem random character and tried to not get hung up on what they look like etc.
Lo and behold, there is a reaosn why everyone raves about that game. So much fun, just going anywhere doing whatever I feel like (Oblivion gates be damned).
So yeah – fun playing games that all the cool kids played years and years ago 😛
-
Played years ago?
I only started say 2ish years ago and I am still slowly playing. Great game but I always get side-tracked by new Bioware or Pokemons.
Dood I work with desided to play again for a bit of a nostalgia trip and has put in over 90 hours now!
-
It is impossible to dabble in games like Oblivion or Morrowind. They suck you in and consume you…
-
Gah! Don’t do it to me people! Don’t make me go back there and start a new game…
-
Why start a new one? I bet theres hundreds of things left to do in the old one!
-
-
-
I remember not being able to figure out how to buy a horse, so I tried to steal one… I wound up in goal for a year, and I lost all my money.
-
That game ate up a whole bunch of my life. not as much as Morrowind did, but a huge chunk nonetheless. I too just enjoyed wandering around doing whatever I wanted. I found it to be slightly less fun once I started doing Oblivion Gates but it didn’t deter me from finishing. It remains the only game I bothered to 100% the achievements.
-
I always see the Oblivion/Bioshock pack cheap. I grab it, think of all the time i sunk into Fallout 3 and the fact that i am yet to really start New Vegas, and put it back.
-
I’ve been playing Oblivion recently too. I started a character who feels that dungeon delving is simply too dangerous a pastime to involve oneself in so he pickpockets people’s house keys and takes all their stuff instead.
Yeah, I put the RP into RPG.
-
I’ve bee playing the Game of the Year version on 360, and all I can say is “Ugh, bring back my master race copy.” I played it, back when this computer was new, and not filled with elephantware, and I could run it on very good settings, with Qarl’s texture pack, and a host of mods, and it was GOOD. Playing the unaltered version -while it’s still a lot of fun, and I have been sucked in- just feels weird.
Still it’s good to get in to this Sheogorath stuff.
Wow, you’re only 18?! To your credit, I would never have guessed based on the level-headedness and maturity of your thoughts posted on here.
-
Woah, something screwy happened here…this was supposed to be a reply to Dire Wolf.
-
Kotaku’s been doing screwy things all day for me 😐
-
I’ve been getting a lot of 503 errors most of today. Wonder what’s going on in Kotaku-land…
-
It’s obvious Kotaku-land is pining for its Marky….
-
-
Yeap , between 12 and 1230 Kotaku would load the infinite whiteness for me!
-
-
I’ve been trying to reply to stuff for most of today. Hit submit and screen goes white, then won’t refresh for a couple of minutes. Comes back up sans my replies 🙁
-
exactly what’s been happening to me! I was getting the same results just trying to load some story pages too, like the lunchtime waster.. hit the more>> link and it’d put me on a blank page :\
-
Good to know I’m not the only one.
-
“Whatever number of people we’re up to now”-ed.

the zombies ate up my comment on how lame some uni computers over-restrict their system. I couldn’t access the volume controls :/
-
Whenever I logon at uni I mute (even if I’m going to watch something) because I irritates me when other people have it up loud
I do remember a couple of years ago when I could access task manager at uni, but it’s gone now – frustrating when things lock up… not that it wasn’t a luxury in the first place.
Nice Pokemanz Review Jimu, I still vow to be your pokemanz friend with black, once I get it.
As I was reading I was thinking maybe I should write one for MNC… is there any interest for it?
-
You in Brisvegas?
DO THE REVIEW, no idea what you’re talking about but DO IT!
-
I’m so in Brisvegas that I knew what you meant when you said Germside a month or so back.
Live at Bray Park, work at Bowen Hills. Play D&D at Redcliffe and Bracken Ridge 😉
-
Kewl, I live in Clayfield but will be moving closer to you very soon. We need a yard for the boy!

Everyone’s being so nice!
Trjn or someone go here and tear me a new one!:
http://www.kotaku.com.au/2011/04/reader-review-pokemon-white/
-
I’m not Trjn, but it’s done, I hope you feel the burn from my scathing comments.
-
Why do I have to be the bad guy? Just once I’d like to be the good guy and have the crowd cheer me on for my deeds instead of being dragged through the town and mocked by children.
Just once!
-
Awww, poor Buttercup Bunny. Tomorrow you can be the good guy and we shall bow at your feet and worship your every word. No wait, I only do that on Buttercup days.
-
But today was Buttercup day and you didn’t do that. /sadface
-
I totally DID, Bunny! You just couldn’t see me bowing and looking worshipfully at your words because we’re on the internets.
-
-
-
Don’t worry, the evil children of Dreadland Village (I really, really, suck at names) celebrate every cruel action. They cheer as you correct people, slamming their misguided notions into the ground. You are like a god to them.
-
I chose you cos I respek your opinion
-
*Faced with the truth, Trjn suddenly realised what was meant, and with a tear in his eye, he says “Damn, I should have pretended I was stupid.”*
At least, that was how I got out of doing work.
-
Well how am I meant to act like a drama queen when people say stuff like that? :p

For anyone who has Minecraft.
The server has been quiet lately so i was thinking of organising a ‘Leather Cap’ night again so we all get on and have some sort of goal. Mobs and animals are back, so we can go old school.
Also been thinking of creating a NEW map, just for leather capping it. We can back up and change maps when we want.
Let me know if you want to arrange a night and we can get back on.
Also, if anyone is interested in having a look at the multiplayer side of this game and are a regular on this site, feel free to e-mail me at [claimsboy][at][hotmail][dot][com]
-
I would’ve joined the server ages ago, but I have to give up on 2-3 games every year when I’m at uni or else I might as well take the semester off 🙁
-
That’s what I was thinking – an LCS tour of duty would be a great way to reinvigorate our involvement!
-
Going to have an LCT event tonight at around 9pm there abouts. Those who turn up after that could just be teleported to the group…
I am thinking of generating a NEW map for the event…
I will of course back up the old one before this happens… Let me know if you are around tonight (hopefully i will be available) and we can get back into it.
ALSO… BIG NEWS
Dawdle is joining in.. perhaps not tonight but she has signed up for the server also…
-
I’ll most probably be out, getting my drink on, so unless you’re still running around at 2am, I guess I’ll miss it.
-
-
-
Yeah I went on it once last week and just got depressed, you guys single handedly made all my single player projects be put to shame. I think I even got lost just looking around and I got attacked by a creeper, beating it down with my wooden blade without it exploding. Got attacked by spiders in the cathedral as well, you need more light there dag nabbit!
-
Yeah, but it has so many monsters that just trying to clear it is a mega chore. Last time I was there a creeper had blown open a hole, revealing my secret area, I was very sad.
-
-
Hey FS, why don’t you have the new map as a Nether World one. That would make LCT a lot more exciting 😀
-
we already have a nether map that i tried out a little while ago, but the nether lacks charm… there is only like 3-4 different block and the mobs are insane… i dont think it will be as much fun until the nether gets more features and blocks…
basically you cant even make tools down there so once your out your out…. normal world would be best for now.

Nice to see Australia is still a secular countr- oh, wait…
http://www.abc.net.au/religion/articles/2011/04/06/3184075.htm
The Australian Christian Lobby really do have influence. The mind boggles.
-
There is a difference between talking to the leaders of a quite influential group, and being a leader whose actions themselves are swayed by their own belief. Church and state should remain separate, but the governments job is to represent its people, who, in this case, are kind of vaguely mostly Christian.
-
I’m totally fine with that in principle – but these lobbying events organised by the ACL are solely for the purposes of changing government policy.
You could even argue they’re for the purposes of changing government policy to suit the whims of a narrowminded section of conservative Christians, whose interests include puppies, kittens and filtering the internet.
It just irks me to see the government pandering to church lobby groups because they don’t want retribution from the pulpits.
-
-
As someone who was (barely) raised Catholic and stuck with religion while everyone else around me discarded it, I find that I disagree with any religious organisation more often than not because they serve as a credible soapbox for self-serving and/or ignorant people who want more influence than they deserve.
I’m not sure it’s religion at fault with these things as much as the people involved who wield it like a weapon (which is probably the most frustrating thing) but then you’ve still got shallow, smug and arrogant people with an inflated sense of self worth (Dawkins comes to mind) on the other side… so it’s pretty sad all ’round – in the end, everyone is the same.
With all that being said, perhaps I’m cynical, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Gillard was doing this because of all the talk about her being an atheist – she’s trying to rectify that image problem (do people really care, though?)
-
I agree about the image issue, as cynical as it is to suggest it.
So many of the current government’s social policy decisions seem to be made defensively (possibly reacting to criticism from the ACL and others that an unmarried atheist prime minister will open the floodgates of Hell, or something), with the fear of ‘pissing off religious lobby groups’ looking like a prime motivating factor.
It’s the pandering that I find the hardest to understand. Being deferential to people whose values you don’t share simply because they have political influence and control over their congregations’ votes seems like the worst sort of base politics.
-
My parents have really got into Jamie Oliver’s 30 Minute Meals stuff lately. They downloaded every episode, watch it most nights and bought the cookbook.
All things considered, that’s a pretty good thing. The food from that show is both simple and damned tasty.
Tonight I tried my hand at a Moroccan Lamb recipe, it took maybe 45min but most people would consider it a success. I know I considered it to be a success, because my belly is now full of meat and couscous.
-
I do love Jamie Oliver recipes, sadly I’m an exceedingly lazy cook, and I can never be bothered to buy the ingredients to make something fancy.
My dinner was an exceedingly difficult (sarcasm, in case that wasn’t clear) stir-fry, with rice, with the hardest part being cutting the onion, because I slipped, cut my finger, then inhaled heavily and started to cry from the onion.
Sigh I feel bad. I FEEL SO BAD!
I’ve missed you guys. I just havent had the time to keep up with you bunch of misfits.
I just got a job at Cooke and Dowsett. Doing Hydraulic design, project admin etc etc. Pretty good student position. So yeah been ultra busy with that. I thought I ort to make time for you guys.
Chuloopa- hows the t shirts going?
Strange- are you back down to earth since your cruise of metal?
Tadmod and the rest- how is the minecraft server going? still paying your own way?
Mark- Pants?
-
You should feel bad! /jackass voice
In all seriousness, I knew someone had been missing for a bit, I’m glad you’ve solved that dilemma (I am so bad with people). The Minecraft server is chugging along, given creepers are back though, I’m not sure if I will ever finish my masterpiece(s).
Is your new job fun?
-
Terrance,
Where have you been?!?!?Strange and I have been worried sick.
-
Impressive job!
Hope you’re enjoying yourself while you’re all ignoring us and stuff. 😛I don’t think I’ll ever come down from that metal cruise, it was entirely too awesome. It was the best music event ever. HANDS DOWN!!! Plus, it went so well that they’re making it annual so we’re already trying to figure out how to afford the next one.
This seems strangely familiar…
http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2006/9/15/
(Yes, I’m really bored this week, and all I’m doing is linking to old Penny Arcade’s)
-
That always has been, and always will be one of my favorite past times…
good ol’ penny arcade…
I think this is the best spam post on my site yet (Trjn, you might find this particularly funny):
‘buenas noches this is Corey, my first Ive posted. I’m not sure I consent with the poster in the thread’s 1st sentence. Could be it has to do with my genre but I simply acquiesce with you. All said and done, the latter part of the thread was prime!’
I lol’d. Then trashed it.
-
How many times did they run that through Google Translate before posting?
-
Just checked a forum i below to that have not been for a while… i had 2 PM’s.. here they are (sorry, but your talk of spam made me think of you when i read these..
they are actually of the same thing, but translated differently.. I can’t tell what the hell the story is about, but it sounds sad/exciting??? I’m not sure actually?
Also, keep an eye out for the line about the widespread girl!!!! and the flat out racist line at the end… what words, when translated mean this???

-
“the obsolete man has died on the pimples”
WTF
-
You reminded me.
A mate of mine had a Resident Evil DVD bootleg from Hong Kong that started:
“She’s a wexy southern gal…”
-
-
LOLOL! That poops all over mine. Incredible.
-
I finally got Minecraft!
I’ve tried singleplayer but kept getting distracted by things (oooh pigs!) and being a little not used to ‘normal PC gaming’ of using the mouse as the camera angle so I kept making me dizzy and losing which way I came from. Such a fail.
Tweet me when you guys are on the server so I can have someone guide me around and we can have some pure pixel fun together! 😀
-
I’ll be on with QBO at about 9 tonight with anyone else who wants to join in.
Can you just test your connection today before then and make sure it works please…
-
I’ll be there, ready to don the leather cap!
-
i’ve only been able to get into singleplayer offline, kep getting the “can’t connect to minecraft.net” message, don’t know if it’ll be the same for multiplayer. :/ i’ll test it later when i get back home today. Shall keep you updated.
-
I’ve been looking forward with great excitement to “Game of Thrones” since I first heard about it and now the first 14 minutes are available to watch online.
Should I watch? I have a feeling that seeing the first part of the episode will make waiting for the whole thing even more difficult. But can I resist?!
-
DO IT!!!
I want a full report ASAP!
-
I’m going to wait for the full episode.
-
I saw some ‘making ofs’ and some preview stuff when i was in the states. It looks so cool.
-
I watched. I enjoyed.
The wall looks suitably epic and I think their choices for Jon and Arya were perfect. I always imagined Catelyn a bit younger and the area around Winterfell to be more wooded.
-
Good report! You saved Strange…
-
-
I just picked up the first book (i’m on page 7 or something). I’ve never read them, but I’m hoping to have them all knocked off by the time I get back from Edinburgh.
NBA Jam as it should have originally been: http://www.neoseeker.com/news/16162-nba-jam-on-fire-edition-heading-to-xbla-and-psn-this-fall/
Sounds good!
-
But, but… what about the NBA Jam I bought? Dammit, I’m kind of annoyed. Feels like an extra cash in on the same game. Just abandoning the one they released already so they can make a new version of pretty much the same one that they will update? Lame 🙁
-
Yeah!!! Who do they think they are? Capcom or something?? 🙂
-
Totally, I’m having SSF4 flashbacks right now.
-
-
I was a bit pissed when I found out about this too. Especially when they announced they wouldn’t be updating the current version. But then I read it wouldn’t be out til next year, so it made me feel a little better.. now they’re saying fall… so wtf knows 😐
-
-
OH YEEEEAH??!
-
Sorry, i meant today’s strip.. lol
it’s HE-LAIR-E-US!
-
So if Jimu was to only recommend one comic and one comic only, this would be it…?
-
Oooh. Good question!
-
Don’t do that to me.
I recomend different stuff to everyone depending on their tastes.
For you I recomend Jeph Loeb’s recent Hulk run, cos it’s the dumbest shit he ever wrote and you’d be appalled and I’d be amused!!!
-
I thought you were recommending something for reals at first. Well, I see that this one was done at least partly by Alan Moore who I like, so my interest is perked…
-
-
-
As an apology for being away from the community for so long I thought I should do something…
Has anyone here not played Portal yet? I can’t imagine why anyone wouldnt.
But with Portal 2 coming out I’ve got two copies of Portal that I am able to gift. So anyone that hasn’t played it and is keen to get on to it before P2 arrives. YELL AT ME BELOW IN LOUD NOISES!
-
I AM YELLING AT YOU IN LOUD NOISES JUST FOR THE HELL OF IT BECAUSE I ALREADY HAVE 3 COPIES OF PORTAL. GREAT GAME. GET ON THIS STRAIGHT AWAY PORTAL-LESS PEOPLE!
-
SO GENEROUS SIRE! I WOULD GLADLY TAKE YOU UP ON THE OFFER, BUT A FRIEND OF MINE IN THE US GAVE ME HIS COPY WHEN HE BOUGHT PORTAL 2! HAPPY PORTALING TO THE LUCKY RECIPIENTS THOUGH!! 🙂
-
Nice to see you back 🙂 Was looking for you Monday on “Remember This…”. Congrats on the job.
I have never played Portal but don’t game on my PC so i’m not after a copy. It’s another game i always see cheap but never grab….Really should get around to playing before the sequel.-
What are you playing on then? If it’s the Xbox 360 then you should definitely buy Portal: Still Alive! It has some tricky remix levels to try after you’ve finished the main game.
-
Is that on XBLA? Not online just yet. Is it much different to what you get in The Orange Box? Or can i update the original game if i buy the OB?
Figured i should also check out half life to see why TadMod is always so excited bout it…-
It is on XBLA, yes. The Orange Box version is perfect and is how I first experienced Portal. But the XBLA version has those additional tricky levels and is a cheaper standalone price.
However, if you haven’t played Half Life 2 either, definitely get the Orange Box and experience everything that it has to offer. Just watch out for the “WTF!! HL2 without a mouse is suxx0r!!” crowd 😉
-
-
-
-
YOU ARE A GOOD PERSON, AND PEOPLE SAY NICE THINGS ABOUT YOU!
I ALREADY OWN PORTAL, SO I SHALL PASS ON THIS KIND OFFER, I JUST FELT LIKE JOINING IN WITH ALL THE OTHER YELLING PEOPLE WHO OWN IT!
-
Fun fact: I watched all eight Red vs Blue DVDs while I was home sick the last two days.
-
Pro Tip:
Chicks are like Voltron; the more you hook up… the better it gets.
-
HA! You wiiiiiiiiiiiish!
-
No, I wish it had been named a Puma… instead of a Warthog.
But then, I’m not even sure Puma’s exist.
-
If you listen to the song that plays over the credits to most seasons, there’s a line “My car’s like a puma, it drives on all fours”.
-
-
-
Yeah, but they were all hot and covered in black stuff…
-
Nice offer dude. I would have taken it but picked this up on XBLA when there was a sale. Got it for like 400 points (a few bucks)… I only finished it over the last month or so. Everyone should play it. Good fun.
It’s out? I better go back and finish Portal 1!
Right after I finish with White and DA2 and DQVIII and Oblivion and Fallout 3 and …
-
DQ VI
(that ones for you nohandle!)-
Nice. Was going to ask 😉
-
-
It’s just on pre-order at the moment.
Also, you should screw the rest of your list and play Portal 1. It’s one of my favourite games of all time, but more conveniently for you, it’s not very long. My first run through took me about 4-5 hours. Also, it’s not a RPG. Maybe that’ll be a nice break for you?
-
I’ve got it and played it. I’m prolly right near the end if it’s so short. Just did my brain in so I needed a break and never seemed to get back to it.
HL2 was similar, I know I’m near the end but it got boringer as I progressed. LOVE IT, don’t get me wrong, I’ll be back one day.
-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOC-hDULX1c
I ALREADY HAVE PORTAL BUT IT IS TEH AWESOME AND YOU ARE TEH AWESOME
LET US ALL GO AND BE TEH AWESOME TEH-GEH-THEH
OH NOES I SEEM LIKE THE ONLY PERSON ON TAY WHO HASN’T PLAYED PORTAL. I LIKE SIMPLE PUZZLE GAMES, WILL THIS GAME BE TOO BRAIN INTENSIVE? *THROAT CRACKS APART FROM YELLING*
-
PORTAL IS DESIGNED EXTREMELY WELL, THERE WERE A FEW MOMENTS I HAD DIFFICULTY WITH, BUT NOTHING TOO EXTREME. I RECOMMEND IT TO EVERYONE WITH A PULSE.
-
DAWDLE! YOU DOWNLOAD STEAM RIGHT THE NOWS! AND I GIFT YOU A COPY FOR FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
THEN YOU WILL BE HOOKED FOREVER!
Jesus! I DON’T THINK ANYONE HAS EVER STRUGGLED GIVING AWAY SOMETHING FOR FREE BEFORE!
-
It’s because you’re trying to give ice to eskimos… we’re on a gaming site and you’re talking about one of the most universally acclaimed games in recent years! Plus I know that Valve has given it away for free on at least one occasion.
Kudos for the attempted generosity, though 🙂
-
But but but… surely theres someone
-
😀 oooo I’ll take it!!
-
Oh yeah, sorry I completed it ages ago… :-/
-
SON OF A AHIOGHFIGHHGHF
You did that on purpose.
-
I used to want to play it… but then they went all mainstream.
Seriously though… no steam.
-
-
I’ve never played it before, but this thread has inspired me to pick up Portal: Still Alive from XBLA, with the MS points I’ve got left over from ME2: Arrival.
Yet another Portal giveaway rejection FTW!
Tristan: Anyone want a FREE copy of Portal?
Shane: I know im going to go buy it.
I dont even… what?!
I’ve been struggling to write opinion pieces for my website lately. Quite simply, I’m not happy with them and can’t seem to find the time to correct them before my Friday deadline.
So instead of trying to force myself to write an opinion piece, when it simply isn’t working, I was thinking of doing another review, similar to the one I did of Trauma Center.
Basically, I’m looking for any current gen game (360, PS3, Wii or NDS) that people would like to see me do a review of. I don’t care if I’ve played it or not, but I would prefer something that is not a recent release. Suggest away and if any tickle my fancy, I shall write about it on next Friday.
-
Final Fantasy 3, 4 or $ warriors of light.
Dragon Quest 4, 5, 6 or 9.
Super Street Fighter 4 VS Plain Street Fighter 4.-
I don’t think JRPGs are a good idea for this. I’m hoping for something that is less than ten hours long so that I can complete it before writing.
As for Street Fighter, that’s possible but my knowledge of fighting games really doesn’t go deep enough to say more than the obvious differences.
-
-
After reading some buttercups, i think that you should give Monster Hunter Tri a crack. Could start with a review and could so easily be adapted into an ongoing story….
-
THIS! Monster Hunter Tri is one of my favourite games. Over 100 hours invested, and I still don’t feel like I’ve accomplished all that much :/
Playing the online co-op mode with two Wiis and two TVs set up is awesome fun. -
I have a few friends that play Monster Hunter on their PSP. Can’t say it appeals to me all that much.
Also, I’m not sure that I have the time to do another Buttercup-esque thing right now. Maybe after I finish Buttercup, I’ll look into starting a new adventure. Sorry to disappoint.
-
-
This may be a bit left field, but Alpha Protocol?
I don’t know if it’s your thing, nor if it’s cheap yet, but it’s an interesting game because it’s so divisive.-
Actually, I like that idea quite a bit.
-
Its cheap!
And it rules and sux at the same time!
Great for a review!!!-
I think my original reply was eaten by the internet gremlins.
Anyhow, JB has Alpha Protocol for $80, ozgameshop.com has it for $18. So if I do review it, it’ll probably be in a month or so.
-
I have Alpha Protocol.
I could lend it you, Bunny but I’m not sure how I’d be able to get it to you. -
Alpha Protocol isn’t at the top of the list right now, so if it comes to the point where I need to borrow your copy, we can worry about it later on.
Somehow I don’t think I phrased that sentence properly. Hohum.
-
-
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOP!
Loved what i played. Should endevour to finish it one day!
-
-
Just another thing, I thought I’d try my hand at other, non-gaming, related material. So tonight I’m going to try and do a quick movie review.
At the very least, it’s an excuse to watch Primer.
Valkyria Chronicles.
Bayonetta.
Too Human.
Gears of War.
De Blob 2.
-
I own or can borrow most of those games, so that’s a plus.
Valkryia Chronicles is actually one of the first games I bought on the PS3 and I abandoned it reasonably early into the plot. So that’s a pretty decent option.
Gears of War is a great game to play co-op, so if i reviewed that, I’d probably focus on that aspect. Which means I need to find a friend to join in the madness. That could be an interesting experience to write about.
-
Actually Valkyria Chronicles is an absolutely AMAZING game. Just don’t listen to any of the dialogue, don’t bother about the plot. Gameplay is one of the best turn based strategies I’ve ever played, hands down.
-
Minecraft is busy with ppl in it right now! So get your butts in here! LCT tonight I think too! And I think dawdle has become one of us! 😀
-
I was in class : ( hope to join tonight!
Hey remember when I said that I had my DNA analysed? Well I’ve written up about my experience over on Giz. You should come visit me over there and read it: http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2011/04/why-23andme-genetic-testing-is-a-waste-of-time-and-money/
-
Good write-up. I agree, unless you have a specific reason to seek it, it’s just a bunch of maybes.
Personally, if someone offered me one for free I’d take it out of interest, but otherwise I don’t see much point.
-
SNEAKY GRL ADVERTISE GIZMODO!!!
*rolls up newspaper*
NO!!
NNNOOO!!BAD GIRL!!
-
I thought you guys cared about me 🙁
-
We do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who puts up with us gutter dwellers?
Who else could be the object of our collected affections?
Who else can we bug Mark autographs for?
Who else will put up our pointless Saturday posts? -
We certainly do, and it was a good read 🙂
-
We do care, it’s just, we’re kind of like an older brother, who will steal all your toys, and crush all your dreams.
-
And just like a big brother, we’re the only ones we’ll let do it.
-
-
Awww i’m sorry 🙁
*hugs*We all love you, Elly!
You know what pants are for, unlike Mark.
-
-
-
As I said over there, some of those numbers are looking statistically unsound. 4200 Japanese people? There’s probably more than that on my uni campus at the moment…
-
I’m so glad I found a fellow hypocondriac!
I panic as soon as I see anything out of place on my body! Everything from a paper-cut (which could lead to tetanus) to a limb missing (it may not grow back!)
but seriously, I’m known for being the Panic-King within my circle of friends (well, it’s more of an oval, none of us were ever really good at geometry)
-
I am the complete opposite. Over the Christmas holidays I was down in Tassie, helping clean up some stuff, and I stepped on a rusty nail, facing straight up. I proceeded to swear quietly, finish breaking apart the wooden boards I was working on, then I wandered over to my father, and quietly enquired as to when my last tetanus shot had been. Luckily it was recent enough, so I put some paper towel in my shoe (I didn’t know where any band-aids were), and went back to work.
Being ridiculously calm is great.
-
I’m a bit like that, sends the Mrs CRAAAAZEEEEEEEEE!!!
-
Whoo! Us Manly-Men™ are awesome!
(Actually, I’m more like 50-50 – cautious in initially trying to avoid things… until something happens and then I’m pretty indifferent; happy to wait and see if it passes)
-
-
-
-
I’m jealous, you got a hater! I got no haters yesterday for my article. Well one, but I’m sure he was taking the piss.
-
You spit in a tube and left it for a month?
Does… spit keep for that long?-
I was half expecting that they’d come back to me and say that my spit was too old or something, but they didn’t. You spit in the tube and when you seal it, this chemical pours over it from the top of the lid. I’m guessing that’s what made it OK.
-
-
A great read – a lot of insight as to how things work and you were remarkably open an honest…
…but now I feel bad that you don’t write more stories for Kotaku 🙁
Are we seeing less Sughly comments cos he stopped procrastinating or started a new Oblivion???
-
Maybe he started playing Lost Odyssey….
-
NBA Jam actually. I’ve began the ridiculous campagin of finishing it on insane difficulty. About halfway through now though…
-
I’ve played multi mainly. Started some single player but go my ass handed to me. Another on the pile of shame 🙁 might crack into next week.
Do use use buttons or sticks for dunks? I prefer buttons but seems a bit more forgiving with sticks….-
Buttons for sure. I started on sticks caus the tutorial used them, but never really liked it. Buttons ftw!
-
-
-
I’m getting timeout and 503 errors from Kotaku all over the place today (and yesterday). What gives?
-
Sorry about that – we’re having back-end issues. Our IT man is working on it. It’s been a pain in the ass being at work today.
-
[Obligatory joke about ‘back-end issues’]
-
How perfect, considering if I’m going to die of anything it’s going to be colorectal cancer.
-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxoOvj9XngM
I’ll just leave this here.
-
Soooo goood 🙂

(obligatory “back end” joke with “pain in the ass” reference)

Anyone with broodlings that likes to inflict their tastes/fashion upon their children. Target has some sweet iron man and spiderman stuff on sale.
http://target.dynamiccatalogue.com.au/portal/embedproductlist__LeftCategoryColumn?Ntt=spiderman&Ntk=Primary&N=4294924703+2079
why do all my friends have to have girls!!!
-
Heh, Broodlings…
Is it bad that I’m now imagining every parent as a Broodlord from Starcraft? Throwing their children down to attack their foes, the pain from their shattered legs giving them only a few seconds to live…
-
hehe that’s what I was thinking too, a word combining broodlords and zerglings.
-
-
I’m keen, the boy already got a Batman and a Superman shirt from my Auntie and me mum bought him a superman shirt and a spidermsn shorts!
Now where can I find Swamp Thing undies..?
-
Err…seems you do it yourself 🙂
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=swamp+thing-
Take it your happy bout todays big reveal Jimu?
-
Nah, is OK. I am still collecting the HCs Alan Moore wrote in the 8os. I guess I’m happy he’s back. I’ll be more keen to read John’s new Aqua Man book, wanted a decent Aqua Man forever.
-
-
Where was my NSFW warning? If I’m fired you are hiring me too sleep in your store!!
-
The fact that it was at Urban Dictionary didn’t give away that it was NSFW?
-
Never heard of it!
-
Then you’re going to love Encyclopaedia Dramatica.
-
-
-
Sorry. 🙁
Forgotted.
-
It’s not just for boys!
My daughter used to love running around in her Spiderman suit (complete with muscles) when she was littler.
Looked up “Joke” on Wikipedia. The first example is:
A barber, a bald man and an absent minded professor take a journey together. They have to camp overnight, so decide to take turns watching the luggage. When it’s the barber’s turn, he gets bored, so amuses himself by shaving the head of the professor. When the professor is woken up for his shift, he feels his head, and says “How stupid is that barber? He’s woken up the bald man instead of me.”
Can’t say I’m all that impressed…
-
Ba dum tish!

Open Safari on your iPhone/iPod, type ’tilt’ into the google search bar. Hit Search. Ta-dah!
-
This MOWED MY BLIND today. Couldn’t quite work out what had happened to my phone.
Cue ten minutes of paranoia.
-
Jesus, How hard is it to give away free stuff?
-
Think it’s been a bit dead cos the site is broked…
-
BROKED I tell you!!!
-
Kotaku has DUN GOOFED UP!
-
-
-
hehe I had that same problem last week or the week before when I was trying to give away my copy of Assassins Creed. Noone seemed to be interested!
-
Wait, have you still got AC? Is it PC version?? *kind of gets excited*
-
-
Who’s giving away what now??
-
I haven’t played Portal… It’s my secret shame.
Also, I’ve been somewhat absent today, and when I saw everyone shouting I felt intimidated.
Plus, you wouldn’t have seen me around so I wouldn’t expect any random giftage.-
Seen you around Effluvium Boy?
Please, this is Kotaku.au.
If you would like Portal and are interested in it, just add my steam account “Tristosterone” and ill send it straight through.
Jimu Hsien, I’m sure you wouldve played portal before, am i right? If not I’ve got another copy if your interested.
-
Ive got it, just didn’t know what was going on.
-
-
I should stop trolling on Facebook.
-
You should provide evidence and/or examples of said trolling, so that we can make a proper judgement 😀
When it comes down to it, I regret joining FB because it really is quite lame and if I wasn’t in fear of losing contact with people I’ve already lost contact with or people I don’t have any real interest in talking to, I’d be out of there so fast…!
-
I don’t think that is a good idea.
It involves me and a programmer friend arguing with someone else that open source sucks.
I’m not exactly proud of that.
-
I just watched Primer with the intent of doing a film review.
There’s a small problem, I just realised that I have no idea how to write a film review. I don’t know the structure, I don’t know what details to focus on.
Dammit, looks like another Friday where all I have to post is a link to Asinine Circus and let you guys enjoy the new comic.
I really want to be able to get written material out on Fridays but I just don’t plan this stuff properly.
Or maybe I should just do all Buttercup, all the time. That way, I might even be able to finish the game before Dark Souls comes out.
-
All Buttercup, all the time!!!!
-
I had slight inkling that you might say that :p
-
I had an inkling you’d have an inkling so I couldn’t let you down, Bunny. 😛
I think though, stick with Buttercup, but throw in the occasional surprise when you’re inspired by something else.
-
-
That TicTacs full page advertisement is disgustingly yellow. I refuse to buy TicTacs until my eyes have healed.
-
idk, I kinda like it…
Am I weird? xD
-
Yes, you are.
-
-
Sorry man but it my fav ad on this site.. kinda makes me proud to be Aussie!!!!!
I saw Sucker Punch last night, and it was
AWESOME~!
People who are whining that the story is shallow or the action is too “Videogamey” forgot to leave their brain in their car on the way in. Did you not see the trailers? You know exactly what you’re getting yourself into:
Anime Action + Explosions + Mindfuck, with “Skycaptain and the world of Tomorrow” filters over it all.
STEAMPUNK NAZI ZOMBIES. Need I say more?
-
Sucker Punch:
>”Oh wow, this is good”
>*Samurai Demon*
>*Smacks Baby Doll backwards through a temple and she craters into the ground DBZ style*
>*Samurai busts in after her, and the incredibly loud Devil May Cry stle rock music starts blaring*
> “ALLRIGHT!” *Sits back and enjoys the pretty lights*-
Meh.
Watched Biutiful the other night, which I would encourage people with money thinking of going to see said Sucker Punch would instead direct themselves towards a screening of Biutiful. It’s heartbreakingly amazing. Sorry Fistbeard, just being my film nazi self!
-
And I say take that money and go buy a good book, preferably comic.
-
Touché.
-
-
-
-
Technically, they weren’t Nazi’s…
But I spent that whole scene with a mad grin on my face.
Hey Mark, have you heard anythign recently about THQ doing anything with the He-Man franchise? I read a while back they were thinking of making an RPG out of it or something. Is there any truth to the rumour?
-
-
heheh thanks Jimu! Great pic! But I was hoping for news, not just a picture! Mark?! Did you ignore this, or are you investigating?
-
Erm… so Borders is closing down near me…
I seriously don’t know what to make of it. I visited the store every week and regularly bought… It’s pretty much been there since the beginning of time.
I shall miss you, old friend. You will find no competition in the digital market, as it isn’t the same experience as flipping through the soft pages of a well-read book.
R.I.P. books; The new generation is too stupid to understand your worth.
~Tad
-
Damn. I wonder if the one at Parramatta Westfield made the cut…
-
Parramatta is gone and so are the ones that I usually visit. Admittedly, I don’t think of this as a great loss as Book Depository has been my main source of books for a while now.
For everyone else’s reference, here’s the email.
-
Yeah, but whenever I lock myself out of my apartment (which happens all the time) Borders is my safe haven.
[sob]
-
And just how do you (repeatedly) manage that?
Also, many fun adventures were had over the last couple of days…?!
-
-
-
-
Bollocks. Just checked an email from Borders – Parra one is closing. Ah well – will go in and buy shitloads of discounted manga to ease my pain.
-
I usually get my manga at Kinokuniya in the city but let me know if Borders are selling of some extra cheap. When I was in San Fran they were all closing down but none were doing any sales.
Also, weird fact. The Borders on the corner of powell and post in San Francisco has the EXACT same men’s toilet layout as the Borders in Glasgow. Only with less swear words scrawled on the door.
-
-
I got that email this morning as well. Le frowne…
-
Yeah this sucks. I hit up Garden City once a month to read through all the latest game mags with a coffee. Siiiiiigh…
-
I only ever bought two books from Borders, one because it was cheap and the other cos I got a gift voucher for my Bday.
Never liked em. They stock overpriced underloved comics and they put Micheal Crichton in the CRIME section.
I asked over on Whitenoise, but I’ll see if anyone here can help.
I’m looking for a new monitor to connect my MacBook Air to when I’m at my desk. Preferably one that I can orientate vertically out of the box.
Hey all you LCT junkies, I’ve come up with a great idea…Tents! All you need is 28 wool blocks a torch and two beds.

I like it a lot! Would be a cosy night in there 😀
-
Yeah, it’s spider proof too 😛
-
Warning, If you watch this you may have an aneurysm.
Totes safe for work.
Seeing as Endu saved me from having to watch the first 14 minutes of Game of Thrones yesterday, I might watch the ‘Making of’ video instead.
-
FULL REPORT! Nahhhhh, I kid!
-
Saved you? Bah, I encourage viewing of the preview.
Honestly, it’s not like it’s going to have spoilers and it gave me an idea about exactly how excited I should get.
Which was very.
-
It’s just that I’d like to keep my episode experience intact.
I want the emotional build-up the episode intends, without a long break between the first preview part and the rest of the episode. I find this especially important for the first episodes of shows, to help me become connected.-
Fair call. Personally, I’ve read through the series 4 times, so I’m already emotionally invested. I’m always saddened by the death of you-know-who. I’m looking forward to the series as a new interpretation of the books.
-
Haha…which you-know-who?:P
I’m definitely already emotionally invested in the written characters (I even named my daughter after one of them), but I just want to make sure I can connect in the same way when they’re not just in my imagination anymore. -
Please tell me you have a little Daenerys.
The you-know-who that Ilyn Payne kills.
-
Aaahhh, yes. That one hurts a lot. 🙁
And Daenerys? Pfft. My daughter is named after the greatest character in the whole series so far…the one with a sword called ‘Needle’. 🙂
-
Haha, nice call. She’s my favourite too, can’t wait to find out what happens next, the temple is an interesting place
-
-
-
I’ve taken the lid off my excitement now, I’m letting it all escape and drive me crazy with the wait. I don’t think this is going to be anything less than awesome after seeing that. I can’t wait!!!!
Did this years Captivate get cancelled? It was supposed to be held April 6-7. I was getting all excited waiting for some Street Fighter X Tekken news!
Had a heap of fun last night with our merry group of Minecraftians. Progress, well, progress was slow. In the new world we made it about as far as walking from one side of the colusseum to the other side. But we had a few teething problems which slowed progress, but once Fluffles Mc.Poopy-Cock joined the team and the cabin was built we all snuggled into bed happily.
UNTIL A FRIGGEN HOLE IN THE ROOF CAUSED A SPATE OF BED SPIDERS!!! I couldn’t get a good nights sleep! gah!
Welbot, if you get a chance today, can you see if you can brainstorm (teamviewer maybe) to help sort dawdles computer out? Seems she’s stuck using the browser version. My thoughts are that it sounds like a firewall is blocking MC from connecting, or a java update might be needed maybe.
-
Man… i realllly need to get the interwebs back…
On the plus side, the electrician has finsihed re-wiring, so we are a little closer to having copious amounts of por… i mean, good wholesome interweb fun!
-
There’s room on the server when you get the webz back loops, you just need a copy of MC, we’d love to see you join in 😀
-
-
No worries.. if Ms Dawdle would like to send me an email, I can try and sort soemthing when I get home from my delivery. dondalinger at hotmail
I’m sure I can figure something out for her 🙂
-
Thanks for that welbot, if you cant find the time I can give it a try, but don’t have as much skillz as yourself. Dawdle was able to play with us, but was suffering heaps of laggggg, which we think/hope was just cause she is using the browser version. (It appears she is trying to run version 1.4 as well, so that seems all good, which is why I’m thinking firewall. Cheers anyway mate 🙂
-
It’s not firewall, otherwise she wouldn’t be able to connect at all, most likely some process being screwy or something. My first time being on that server was absolutely horrid as well, still kind of being laggy when I was last on it but the tweaking around helped
-
-
-
There was a hole in the roof!? Man you guys are useless 😛
Fluffles Mc.Poopy-cock? Is that a wolf?
Hey FatShady, would you be able to put the new map on this morning and turn mobs on?-
ok
-
cool thanks 😀
-
-
animals and mobs back on in the LCT world
let me know. I have a back up of the other world so dont worry. if you want it changed back just let me know
-
-
Let me know if you guys need a night-labourer. I like MC, but I’m not really into building for building’s sake – especially in a SP environment. BUT, helping people build? Now we’re talking.
-
always welcome. email claimsboy at hotmail for details
-
-
The lag made my noobish experience even worse than it should have went: keep running into trees, falling down holes, having you guys to come back and find me when I’m lost. 😛
It was a really fun experience and I appreciate the tour around the regular server. You guys, everyone who has build stuff there, are insane.
Hopefully my lag issue will be resolved and my minecraft skills will improve a bit so I can catch up : )
Having my first “boys night” in like a year on saturday night..
You know we’re doing?
GOING TO SEE SUCKER PUNCH!!
HELLS YEAH!!!
Me, a legendary IT stoner who drives a combi (what a combo), and a mad irish biker… man this is going to be Awesome to the power of rad!
-
Gnarly!
-
BOO YAH!
*simultaneous chest and fist bump*-
I fear your chest bump would contain too much masculinity for me and could subsequently kill me. Chest bump avoided.
-
Maybe testosterone was a better word? That sentence makes me look like a woman :'(
Not that theres anything wrong with that! I’m just… not one, myself. Honest.
-
NECK!
-
-
I think Loops, The IT stoner and The Mad Irish Biker should take Sughly’s advice and all go see Biutiful together 😉
Actually looking at the top top line they should be in their own road/buddy film.
-
What is loops description?
dirty joke obsessed, chest haired gamer?
-
Well Irish is much hairier than i am..
So i’ll go with Dirty joke obsessed geek with a heart of gold
OR
Dirty joke obsessed geek with a bad temper who eventually learns that not all is tits and rage and scores the girl!
Man this film sounds awesome!! When’s it coming out?
-
-
Haha, then they can hold each other during the emotional scenes and discuss colour coordination in their homes over a nice wine afterwards.
-
Awww i was hoping for cosmopolitans rather than wine 🙁
-
Actually yeah I take that back, I like wine. Cosmowhatevrs it is!
-
Excellent! *Air-Guitar Riff*
-
Radical!!! *head bangs*
Wait a minute, its not a split-screen olive green combi by any chance is it? Is his name Adam C.?
-
Why? Are you the mad Irish biker? 😛
-
Close, it’s Q’s mum.
-
I’m sorry Q, that was a poor poor mum joke.
-
My mums past is a mystery to me, she could have been a Irish biker for all I know. Anything is possible considering she was the president of the Manfred Mann fanclub! :/
-
How the hell could you NOT love Manfred Mann
-
-
haha no, mate.
His name is Mackle and his baby (the second of which he has owned) is just straight-up white.
Hell of a van too!
I need to learn how to drive.
I’m starving but the rain/storm ruined my plans of bussing to the shops for lunch so I’m thinking of ordering pizza. But everything costs twice as much when you have to get it delivered. So yep, maybe I do need to learn to drive after all….
-
Me too, managed to get the learners but never seem to find time to practise.
-
yeah you really do! I’d offer my services to pick up and deliver the pizza for a share, but I need to be home today to wait on a delivery 😐 MEH!
-
Just treat your L’s like a game. The steps involved are like achievements/trophies. Just think of the sounds and notch up your score as you go.
I know that with all your gaming prowess you can 1000/Platinum this sucker no worries 🙂Actually The First Lady should have her own Chauffeur anyway….
-
i did that all the time..
In fact i still do..
I often imagine my car is a star-fighter, shooting down oposing space-craft (anyone slower than me)
Sometimes, when i am on the freeway on the way to work, i pretend i’m flying an x-wing or a y-wing in the Deathstar trench… I zap tie-fighters and when i go under a bridge i mutter to myself “Al-most thereeeee… Al-most thereeee… stay on target…”
What… why are you looking at me like that??
STOP IT!!-
I would do that too… if mistakes didn’t cost me thousands in repairs and possibly my health as well… really makes a difference when it’s NOT in a game
-
If anything, i think it actually makes me more alert behind the wheel as i’m paying more attention to what’s going on around me rather than just hurting my throat while drumming and screaming along to cradle of filth this morning… *ahem*
-
Cradle of Filth performed while i was in NY. Considered going for pure curiosity value, but decided against it. Saw the crowd going in though. Wow, some people take that s**t seriously. Movie quality zombie make up. Damn some of those pasty, dead looking girls are hot…Ahem!
I’m kinda torn on Cradle of Filth. Talented, of course and I know that my music consists of drug dealing, misogyny and murder but have always felt a little uncomfortable knowing the content.. Same with Cannibal Corpse. I like to see the docos where they are all just quiet, kindly mannered dudes. Most are classically trained, which i find interesting. Supposedly someone shooting a doco on Cradle of Filth couldn’t show one of the members smoking cos his Mum didin’t know. Classic! -
Nothing against Cradle, I wouldn’t have seen them live if I did have something against them.
BUT…
They were one of the worst concerts I have ever seen, I was promised bloodbaths and women in cages…nothin’.
And it had the worst sound I have ever heard, this is the sound guy’s fault and not theres(presuming they turned up for sound check)there was this ear peircing screech for a full 10 mins that gave me a headache.Bad times. The guy’s I went with that are die-hard fans went right up the front and missed out on the pain. Lucky them!
-
Glad i didn’t go then. Will just relish their sound in all it’s over produced glory.
I had a mate back in High School, him and his mrs were really into Cannibal Corpse. So much so they used to write “love” letters in a CC style…
Long story short, Daddy found the girls letters from him and flipped out. Police were called. I even got called into principals office as a “character” witness. Fun times.
Sound guys piss me off sometimes. They have the best job in the world and they still f**k it up.
Saw Korn supporting someone last year and they had the craziest sound dude ever. Was going off more than anyone on stage or in the crowd. Had stripped down to his boxers and was going mental by the end. -
Classic!
-
I saw ‘Frenzle Rom’ play immediatly after ’30 Odd Foot Of Grunt’… it was awkward.
-
That line up makes perfect sense. Who organised that gig??
-
Northern Territory Government.
Claire Martin, their Chief Minister at the time was desperate for the youth vote… so she started a BDO style music festival and we got the wierdest line up ever.
Selwyn was the opening act.
Also playing were Machine Gun Fellatio
28 Days
Sophie Monk
The Living EndSimultainously the best and worst gig I’ve been to.
-
Conservatives were outraged at the government paying for a band called ‘Machine Gun Fellatio’…
It was a big stink that their rider called for four live turkeys, oldies (anyone over 35 in Darwin) were horrified at what these obvious Satanists were going to do to those birds.

Protip: Playing DS whilst driving is hard.
UNLESS is is something easy and turn-based, like de Pokeymons. Play whilst waiting in traffic (which is pretty much 95% of the time on Sydney roads), and just snap it shut whenever you get to, you know, drive.
100% Safety* Guaranteed!
(*): Not guaranteed
-
I’ve done it. Puzzle Quest. Also, sometimes I read.
You should – even if you’re not driving somewhere every 5 minutes, you never know when there’s some kind of emergency and it would be useful.
What’s the testing like up in QLD?
Work is murdering my awakeness…
-
On Wednesday the guys from Monster Energy came by and dropped off 4 slabs of Monster energy drink (assorted flavors) for free..
Being in the action sport industry sometimes has its perks…
I want their car… it has speakers and subs ON THE OUTSIDE!
-
You’d really dig this then…
http://youtu.be/btZVAlkNB5I
-
I hear the Lizzies are tonight?
GOOD LUCK to everyone nominated from Allure 😀
-
Oooo how exciting! Go team Kotaku!
-
Thanks man! Fingers crossed!
-
fingers crossed for pants off!
it just rhymes…
-
I’m going to be severely disappointed if I see photos of the Lizzies and Mark is in the background wearing pants – if Eva Longoria can get away with it on Letterman, you can get away with it too.
-
That was a pretty good 7 minutes of television… it was even better when I hit mute.
-
-
-
-
Good luck guys!
Do you get to get all dolled up for a swanky show with free booze and food?-
they’re going by water taxi… what?!
just as glamorous as limos.
-
-
Best of luck team – god knows you guys sure as hell deserve some recognition.
That being said if you don’t win anything i’ll disown you
*glare*
-
Simon Pegg is in town – is he going to present the award to Mark?
-
I will be disappointed if Mark wins and doesn’t pretend to be Boris Becker, accepting the award because Mark can’t be there tonight.
-
Oh wow. That’s such an awesome idea.
-
-
REALLY?!
-
Yeah, he was in Melbourne yesterday for the premiere of whatever his new film is.
Missed him by an hour on the way home from uni.
-
-
-
Good reminder! Thanks.
Best of luck Mark (not that luck will be a deciding factor, because you’ve already done the hard yards, though it will be a matter of luck if you’re the only pantless winner I suppose…)
FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY!!!
MUST.. BUY… STUPID… BEANIE!!!
My manliness demands it!
-
HOLY CRAP!!!

They are going to be the most sought after item by fashion conscious armed robbers everywhere!!! Straight from the runways to a pokie room/ servo near you. 🙂
Oh, and sent you an an email today Loops….
-
And i sent you one too Sughly!
-
O rly? Lemme see… haha! I love it! Awesome idea! Does that mean I have to reply to your email saying the same thing? Because I can.
-
Seems everyone is keen then. Work your magic Sughly! 🙂
-
-
-
haha i thought the exact same thing, actually…
Cheers dude, i’ll check it out shortly 🙂
-
I’m crying cos I didn’t get an email…***sob***
-
Sorry buddy. Figured you get enough spam from me. If the stars align and this happens i’ll get you one ok?
-
Is ok, all I want is an email. BORING day at work!
-
-
-
-
I’ve never played any ME games, but that looks nice indeed. I like how there’s a little bit of light coming out from under his left armpit. Now that is badass.
-
Ooooh by the way, how am I supposed to know if Game Informer got my subscription form by mail? Do they reply or just wait until the next issue comes out and mail that to you? I think I chuck mine in about… 3 weeks ago?
-
you can call them and check
133 960 -
They just mail it out to you. But then again, I signed up via EBGames, so they chucked the form into the mail, not me. But I assume it’s the same.
-
that’s what I did.
thanks!
-
-
I’ve never subscribed to anything by mail, but maybe try calling them up? They’d probably have your details in a database if they did get it.
-
-
-
Holy crap!!!
it’s things like that that make me damn happy to have a subscription – CAN NOT WAIT!
-
I’m a gaming mag newbie:
If I don’t have a subscription, what sorts of places would sell Game Informer? Game shops? Newsagents? Book stores?
Last mag I bought was Nintendo’s, about 10 years ago.
-
Borders.
[lol]
[sob]
-
I lol’d at this too.
And then I sobbed at this too…
-
The ironing, it’s delicious.
-
-
EBGames : )
I actually got a few older issues for free when I signed up for the 12-month subscription 😛-
Yep, EB. Its like $30 for a years worth. Pretty sweet deal.
-
-
-
-
Who’s that guy? My commander Shepherd is a red headed chick!
-
I always thought he looked like this: http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/105/index/1398049/1
-
That makes me fall over laughing every time I see it. 😀
And yeah, it’s kinda annoying that Bioware insist on using a ‘default Male Shepard’ in all their promotional artwork. It makes all the 15 year olds even more certain that ‘badass space marine testosterone ape-man Shepard’ is the only possible interpretation of the character.
-
Doesn’t actually bother me. I can see why they’d do it from a marketing perspective.
They should just use a woman next time. It’s always a dood, or a boobs lady.
-
They should, but I don’t see it happening any time soon :/
Jennifer Hale’s voice acting as female Shep sounds so much better than the male one anyway – the character just sounds deeper/more nuanced and with more emotion.
-
Never heard the gauy, only ever played thru each game once.
-
Jennifer Hale is one of my favourite voice actors. Hence FemShep all the way.
-
-
-
-
That cracked me up, the intro was AMAZING!
-
My Shepard looks disturbingly like that… and it was by accident, I was trying to make him look like me! [sobs for lost self-esteem]
-
My first attempt I made something similar tio what I went on using. But when it turned to the side I started screaming in terror!
So I went back to the drawing board and ended up with what I ended up with…
-
You’d think the dude should be off saving the planet, rather than posing for photos as the Reapers invade. Maybe he’s gone all commercial and sold out.
“I’m Commander Shepard, and this is my favourite invasion in the galaxy.”
-
Hey man, Commander Shephard needs some me time too. Being a badass/spectre takes its toll, you know.

Yeah, I’ll have to give it a try

Hey Mark, when are you going to announce the wrestling comp winners? If the T&Cs are to be trusted(though I highly doubt they are 😛 ), you judged the entries on Wednesday morning…
Yeah, I know that “How do you keep an idiot in suspense” joke is funny, but this is just too long now…I’ve been checking Kotaku every 5 minutes for the last two afternoons now.
I understand if your stalling, I would too if I had to announce 12 winners from a horde of angry wrestlers… 😛
-
I want to see the winner pitted against Mark for reals, in a mudbath.
Want money? Open a combined Donut King and Oportos franchise that I can go to somewhere between Fortitude Valley and Chermside.
-
OMG, Oporto donut burgers.
Oporto burgers, but the buns replaced with donuts.
Yessssssssssssss, precioussssssssssssss…-
Get a double down, put a donut on top and on the bottom of the chickens. And make it a krispy kreme donut.
I call it “The Heart Attack”.
-
-
There’s an Oporto side-by-side with Krispy Kreme in Sydney city. 😛
-
I know exactly where that is lol
I lived in Surry Hills for 4 or so years before moving up here

-
Remember Quiznos Subs? They were good…
-
Remember the subs and all you could eat at Pizza Hut?
Man, the world sucks compared to when I was growing up.
-
remember all u can eat Pizza Hut and KFC too!
-
-
-
Orrrrr combined Krispy Kreme and Nandos somewhere on the southside. Pls.
-
Actually come ot think of it, there really is one of them, at the petrol station near the Yatala drive in. Why dont I go there more often…? Why am I not there now?
-
So, I had my manly night of manly last night, had a double (down), it was delicious, and I saw Suckerpunch, which was, in my opinion, an amazing film, then I drank alcohol, and got myself invited to a manly party in a bit over a weeks time.
Now, would anyone be interested in a stupidly long, mostly spoiler free review of Suckerpunch, from someone who is a gamer? No? Tough luck, I’m going to write one up.
-
Prediction: ‘Was so good to leave my brain at the door blah blah guns boobs, escapsim, blah blah boobs. Guns.’
Close?
-
NOT. IN. THE. SLIGHTEST.
-
Then mine is a more accurate review!
-
-
You didn’t boobs enough!
-
hehe…boobs 🙂
-
Had a awesome time last night with the minecraft LCT gang. Hopefully we can make it a regular thing we port to a random map once a week and explore and run away from creepers. and leave giant holes in the roof so spiders can spawn lol. Also i received my first book from book depository, i was pleasantly suprised when i realised that superman for all seasons was written by jeff loeb and drawn by tim sale, so far my favorite combo of artist and author.
-
You bought it without knowing who did it?
Is a good one, so’s there Batmanses and The Coloured marvel ones…OH! And Catwoman when in Rome!!
And Challengers of the Unknown to a lesser extent.I think Loeb does his best work when he’s writing for Sale.
-
I new loeb wrote it because thats what i searched for but i didn’t know sale illustrated it. I actually just google good superman dc comics. I havent got a chance to read it yet. Looking forward to it.

And then we can put a Double in the middle of it and put Krispy Kreme donuts on the top and bottom!
I can see the headlines now:
KOTAKU AU, THE GAMERS SUICIDE CULT
In bizarre occurrences across Australia, readers and frequent commentors on gaming new website Kotaku AU have been found dead, after consuming what food nutrionists are calling “AUGH, WHAT THE F-“. The food item in question appears to be bacon and cheese wedged between two deep fried chicken pieces, further wedged between flat sausage, another layer of bacon and cheese, and hotcakes, further wedged between donuts. Upon seeing seeing this atrocity of mankind, Biggest Loser personal trainer Michelle Bridges broke down in tears and had to be sent to the hospital, later moved to the psychiatric ward, allegedly suffering from waking nightmares. Upon medical examination, the coroner noted that all arteries and veins around the heart of the deceased persons had been blocked with a “yellow, plastic-like substance. It… it’s kind of like cheese?”.-
LOL. Awesome.
-
Seconded.
-
Mmmmmm… Aortic cheese. Delicious!
-
Just reading it is giving me heart palpitations.

-
-
I have not tried the double down yet.
Anyone know when this ‘promotion’ ends?
I keep forgetting to stay hungry when I go to the city and walk past a KFC :\

haha these guys are great.. Friday afternoons stuck at work.. are not.

Gotta love those guys. They do some great stuff.
-
I… I think my Xbox just red-ringed.
[sob]
[bawl]
Don’t think it’s covered under warranty, either.
-
I’m on number 5. Seriously.
-
“Your standard warranty expired on October 31, 2009.”
[collapses]
This is my first ever problem, and I’ve had it for… nearly 4 years now.
Gonna check out the cost for repairing, but I might even just buy a new 250gb console if the repairing fee is too much.
-
Just do it. The new ones are so much quieter that everybody who can afford to get one should. It’s even more worthwhile if you only had a 20GB (or arcade!) model.
The incompatible hard drives is a pain but hopefully you can find somebody who has an original model that will let you transfer all your old saves on to a USB drive.
-
Hm, I could definitely do that. Is DLC tied to the console? Or could I re-download it all onto the new HDD?
I also have my old HDD that I can detach, is it possible to use a transfer cable to move everything from that one to the Xbox Slim HDD?
-
You’ll be fine to redownload. All DLC is tied to your gamertag and console, so the person who downloaded it can play on any console (after connecting to XBL) OR any account on your registered console can play it. But thankfully you’re allowed to switch your registered xbox once a year through their website – meaning that all your previously purchased DLC will work in exactly the same way as on the original console.
As for transfer kits, I’m not sure, haven’t used one. But it’s probably cheaper and easier to just transfer stuff to USB using somebody else’s console if at all possible.
-
DLC is kind of tied to the console. Re-downloading on a new console makes the DLC only playable while the original gamertag is signed in.
However, if you go to the following link, you can re-assign which console is used for DLC (such as when you get a new Xbox) by performing a content licence transfer:
http://www.xbox.com/en-AU/Support/LicenseMigration/HomeI think you can only do a content licence transfer once per year, though.

Microsoft charges something like $200+ to repair an out of warranty 360.
Sucks to have one die on you, so just consider it an excuse to upgrade.
-
Micro$oft want $150 to repair it. I bought a new Elite model instead when mine went kaput.
-
at least it’s not RRoD, not the end yet!
Spewin. 🙁
On the upside you can now get a slim with a pointless..ahem..revolutiuonary kinect.
From my recent RROD experience (two weeks ago)i got a 4gb slim with kinect. Got mine from Big W but JB’s have the best deal at the moment with 2 games you can pretty much negotiate…
I went for the slim so i can get the seperate HDD for cooler operation. Do you have the usb update? You are either going to have to find a mate with an old xbox to transfer to usb or cough up $25 for the cable or maybe someone on here can hook you up..
-
I saw the funniest gumtree sale for a kinect the other day, hold on…
‘I am selling a kinect sensor for xbox 360
I have only tried the sensor once and hate it.
It also comes with the kinect adventures game $100 as new excellent condition’lol.
-
What did you do? Why aren’t you hooking up?
and if anyone else is reading , how much is recovered when you recover gamertag online?-
Gamertag recovery covers things like your gamerscore and some game settings (control configuration, etc).
All game *save* files are kept local and aren’t recovered with the gamertag.
-
All my info was either already on usb or on an old school microsoft mu. I went to a mates that night and transferred the lot.
-
-
I still have the cable from when I bought the 120gb HDD (to transfer from my original 20gb HDD to the 120gb one). I’m guessing that would work…? The manual only said it needed to be a transfer from a smaller drive to a larger one, which this would be…
Otherwise I have quite a few friends with Xboxes that I could use with a USB.
I’ll also start looking around for a good deal for the Slim… but I’d probably want a 250gb model.
-
Unless you’re gonna rip out the 4Gb drive and put a larger one in, definitely go for the 250Gb console. The 4Gb is flash memory IIRC, which stuffs up some game features (such as Firefight in Halo Reach).
-
JB’s has the best deal. If you can’t negotiate on two free games just trade em straight up. I went for a 4gb and will evetually cough up for the external or use 16gb usbs. New slims run sooooo hot and i’ve heard having the drive separate ( and copying games) makes for cooler operation.
-
I was going to make a commentary on the use of ‘red-ringed’, but in thinking of Mark’s censoring role I decided against it.
-
The mind.
It boggles.
Poor, poor man…
I don’t think I’ll ever see RRoD, I’d have to actually use my 360 for that to happen!
I’ve looked around and it looks like JB and Big W both have the stand alone 250gb console for $399.
Can’t find anything about the JB deal with two games 🙁
Also, I’ve just checked with a friend and the transfer cable for the HDD should work fine with the 120gb drive to the 250gb one.
-
Tis true. JB deal is gone. Didn’t have stand alone deals when i was looking. **grumble, stupid kinect, grumble***
Big W rarely has stand alones instore…-
In that case it looks like the JB or Big W deals ($399 for 250gb Xbox standalone w/ controller, headset and no Kinect) is the best I’ve found.
What was that JB deal with 2 games, out of interest?
-
4gb kinect with Kinect game, latest FIFA and something else i can’t recall and a HDMI cable. When I called they were negotiable on the games within reason. $479 or $499

Today has been hectic and annoying. Yay.
Taking two days off sick during a busy part of the month has meant that things have piled up and the IT person being on leave has meant that I get the occasional distraction along the lines of “fix this” or “set these computers up”.
Fun.
-
hehe I’ve had a bit of a hectic day too. Lots of remote fixes for me. Thankfully all have gone well! Now I can relax for the weekend and let the money roll in! Hopefully anyway 😉
-
Only thing that sucks about working for yourself is having to chase clients for payment 😐 Been chasing a $250 payment from one client for 4 weeks now :\ Grrr!! Makin me really shitty!
-
Thats it, I’ve made a decision which I’m extremely proud of, one that I haven’t more sure of or excited about in a long long time.
This weekend I’m going to replay Link to the Past. High five me if you agree that this is awesome! Because it is.
-
-
Food for thought – how come no indie developers are making games like this nowadays? That is, top down, 2D sprite, dungeon based games. Or maybe they have and I didnt see them. Because more games like this need to be made. NEED to be.
-
-
Alright… but any GOOD ones? Any you’d recommend?
-
-
-
-
-
I knew I could count on you.
-
-
Niiiiice.
-
Totally deserving of a hi 5 imo! I loooove that game! I go back and play it at least once a year! Usually on the plane on my way to shanghai! 🙂 It’s the perfect way to pass the time on a long haul flight!
-
Precisely! And I think that time of the year has most surely arrived for me…
-
OH SHIT. ELLY’S GOT MY 3DS!
MISSILE IS NOT SAFE!

Poopy II?

Elly, if you do anything to Missile, we’ll sneak into your bedroom, and steal your favourite doll.
You’ve been warned.

Revenge killing!

But can Missile really be trusted anyway…? http://kramsdesign.com/misc/kotaku/missile-trust.jpg

Brilliant!!!

Whilst undeniably entertaining, your frequent artistic sojourns away from your work on Anna’s Room are frustrating (at best) – don’t make me chain you to your desk!

Thats from Blade Runner right??

Are you…. is this a joke? This is a joke, right?
-
As usual. Just when i think a post can’t get any funnier. 🙂
-
-
-
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
I can’t believe I’m just seeing this! AMAZING.

Alright guys and gals, I’ve got just under 1000 words written thus far on Sucker Punch, but my sister distracted me, so you can have the first part of my review, for your ignoring pleasure. I would post it somewhere else, but the only other site I use is Facebook, so get ready for words.
Sucker Punch
A film, in the good tradition of dumb action films, which divides along strong lines. On one side, stand the reviewers, sitting with a score of 22% on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s easy to say that this is not a reviewers film. On the other, are the idiot teenage males, obsessed solely with “lolboobsguns” and the copious explosions to be found within. Of course, if we look at these two groups, you see that a large proportion of the population is missing, that is to say, most people who have brains. Whether these cerebrally gifted people choose to like the film or not, is of course up to them. I fall very firmly on the side in support of the film, not only due to the copious amounts of eye candy, that cater straight to my adolescent male fantasies, but also for the filmic style.
As a warning, here be minor spoilers, I shall attempt to avoid mentioning anything that hasn’t already been revealed through trailers, but, if you wish to view the film through fresh eyes, it goes without saying that you should look at my opinion stated above, take what you know of the film, and decide for yourself, and avoid reading what I am amount to vomit out.
On my keyboard.
Ewww.
Also to note, I shall be comparing it to other films, and giving recommendations based on aspects, I am not attempting to force my opinion on anyone, lest I become a crazed zealot, unwilling to address all sides of a discussion.
The film, as you are probably aware, is the work of Zach Snyder known for his adaptations, particularly of graphic novels, such as Sin City and Watchmen. This is his first foray into script writing, and the influence of his former adaptations is still quite visible. At points, the dialogue is clunky, but in no worse a way than what is found in Watchmen, on top of that, his relative inexperience allows for some scenes which could have benefitted from shortening, at least in terms of how much people talk, or the ways in which things are said. These are mostly at the start of the film, and while some of what is said becomes noteworthy later on, it does rather break interest, leading to some early scenes lacking the all important Zazz.
Now, the film has a whole host of fight scenes, and the stunt choreographer used is Damon Caro, who you may recognise from 300 and Watchmen, as well as, more importantly, the Bourne films. The influence of his previous works is immediately apparent, the fights in Sucker Punch are quite similar to his previous work, but turned up to eleven. Thanks to the dreamscape abilities of the protagonists, it features over the top flips, ridiculous jumps, and the use of an impossibly sharp sword. In terms of this spectacle, the only part I could fault was the jumping physics, while they can be written off as part of the girls power, I couldn’t get over just how uncanny they were.
In short, if you liked the fights in 300 or Watchmen, and wish to simply see spectacle, I can thoroughly recommend this. If you did not like them, then you may have problems watching the film, due to the length and frequencies of the action scenes.
Onto the plot, which I possibly should have addressed earlier. The film is set inside an asylum for the mentally insane (as opposed to the physically insane? (as opposed to the criminally insane)), and features a group of girls as they attempt to escape, using a quest for a map, fire, a knife, a key, and a mystery as a basis. In a rather Inception like point, the main character, Babydoll, not only retreats into her mind for their quests, but also imagines the asylum as a Brothel, where the girls dance to impress clients, before being led into the real business. These dances provide the basis for the action scenes, as Babydoll escapes into her fantasies as she dances, desperately trying to escape from the fantasy she created, as she desperately tried to escape from reality.
The main difference between this and inception, apart from goddamn near the entire film, is that the cast of this is mostly women, with, for the majority of the film, only one man shown in any positive light whatsoever. Okay, so that was a terrible statement to make, but I’m sure you understand the point.
In terms of casting, the two I noticed most were Emily Browning as Babydoll, which is played solidly, by an incredibly hot actress (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pXfHLUlZf4), she also provided the singing during the opening segment, which I’ll comment on later. The second character was Vanessa Hudgens as Blondie. Now, it’s not really saying much if I say that this was by far my favourite performance of hers, having never sat through a movie which she’s been in, but as a noticeable change from her previous roles, she performs admirably, and I respect her as an actress far more.
As an object to note, while the film does have hyper-sexualised imagery (as always, WA-AY more on that later), the main characters have been made up, or shot, in a way to make sure they avoid being “perfect”. At times, Browning’s cheeks are shown to be rather chip-munky, the hair and makeup on Hudgens gives her a kind of gothic appearance, or the short hair of Rocket, which avoids the feministic “norms.”
So yeah, hot women being portrayed as being hot, if you can live with that, you might just like this film.
Now, thanks to unforeseen circumstances *Cough* my Sister *Cough* I shall have to post-pone the rest of this, and blah blah blah.
And yes, Trjn, if you bothered to read any of it, I know, I really need to learn to edit…
-
Alright, first of all Robert Rodiguez did Sin City, which is infintitely better than any Zach Snyder film I’ve seen. Secondly, I’m not sure I’d classify what you’re talking about as a filmic style, it’s more or less just over stylised effects. Thirdly, comparing this to Inception is a bold statement… I think a lot of people missed a lot of the subtleties of Inception, and this film doesnt seem to know the meaning of the word.
-
And your only critique of the main actress is that she’s hot? Really?
-
I have always stated that I’m a 19 year old male at heart.
And you’re right Sin City was Rodriguez, someone commented that is was Snyder and I forgot to double check. My Bad.
-
I’m sure he’ll get back to it… but it’s better than being ugly, right? 😛
-
-
-
Oh, and yes, I know, I love commas, but that should have been evident prior to now. I write how I talk, and I talk strangely, so commas are commas commas commas. Everywhere.
-
,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,,,,,, , , ,,,,,,,,,, , , , ,,,,,,, ,,,, ,, , ,,,,,,,,, , , ,,,,,, ,, , ,,,,, ,,,,,, , , ,,,,,,,,, , , ,,,,,,,,,, ,, ,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,,,,, , , ,,,,, , , ,,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,,,,,, , , ,,,,,,,,,, , , , ,,,,,,, ,,,, ,, , ,,,,,,,,, , , ,,,,,, ,, , ,,,,, ,,,,,, , , ,,,,,,,,, , , ,,,,,,,,,, ,, ,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,,,,, , , ,,,,, , , ,,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,,,,,, , , ,,,,,,,,,, , , , ,,,,,,, ,,,, ,, , ,,,,,,,,, , , ,,,,,, ,, , ,,,,, ,,,,,, , , ,,,,,,,,, , , ,,,,,,,,,, ,, ,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,,,,, , , ,,,,, , , ,,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,,,,,, , , ,,,,,,,,,, , , , ,,,,,,, ,,,, ,, , ,,,,,,,,, , , ,,,,,, ,, , ,,,,, ,,,,,, , , ,,,,,,,,, , , ,,,,,,,,,, ,, ,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,,,,, , , ,,,,, , , ,,,,,
Soooo, is it a rubbery popcorn/sticky floor film, or a *cough* acquire from the fluffy fields of the netticles film?
-
I’m totally like this too – ‘cept I started replacing my commas with hyphens and ellipses to make it appear less awkward…
-
Yeah, I also usually use parentheses, but when writing this out, I was really just churning through, trying to sort it all in my mind, so elegance be damned. Once I’ve actually finished it, I’ll probably go back and switch some stuff around, make it neater, all that, but for now it can remain a comma-nding mess.
-
-
OK Q-Bo, I was glad to spend money on it, but it’s probably only worth it if you have a group of manly mates to go see it with.
I decided that posting 3000 words might be a bit long, so for those with Facebook, here’s a link http://www.facebook.com/notes/sean-richardson/sucker-punch-an-analysisreview-thing/10150152526084781
for everyone else, I have no idea. Not that anyone will see this, but still.
-
Haven’t been on for ages… I used go for ones with high downloads…
-
wth?
-
Was supposed to be a reply to Sughly bout rpg games above. Site was playing up….
-
Ah yep, now it makes sense!
-
-
I’m thinking of going with this one, because I’ve always wanted to play Far Cry 2 (no man less than DAVID WILDGOOSE says it’s awesome!) and I can trade the other three in or try to negotiate some others.
http://www.ebgames.com.au/xbox360-999470-Xbox-360-250GB-Console–4-Games-Xbox-360
(Although, it’s out of stock on the website…)
-
Walked into EB yesterday, saw Far Cry 2 for $24 and thought of the Goose before blanking out and finding my wallet held $24 less and there was a copy of FC2 in my xbox.
Holy crap, did anybody else know about the animated movie “The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn” that is coming out at Christmas?? (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0983193/)
Featuring (deep breath) Mark Serrels (aka Simon Pegg), Daniel Craig, Jamie Bell, Cary Elwes, Nick Frost and Andy Serkis. Written by Stephen Moffat and Edgar Wright. Directed by Steven Freaking Spielberg.
I can’t see how this can do anything other than kick ass. HOW DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS??
-
Yeah this has been in the works for ages. Lots of motion cap goin on for this one.
-
Holy crap, how was I unaware of this?
-
I think it’s also being produced by Peter Jackson 😀
lol, we broke 1000 without realising it…
OMG, Serrels FTW.
Congrats mang, even though you may or may not see this for a few days, if at all. But there will certainly be kudos on Monday, Monday, gotta get down on Moooonday
-
I’ve gotta get me a Twiiter.
I was looking everywhere to see what the results were and when I saw this I wondered where you got your inside info from. Then it hit me…aaaaaaah…Twitter.
So I searched on Twitter for @Serrels and found out all sorts of interesting info, including a picture of Sir Pegg Legg on the big screen. 😀-
I don’t actually have a Twitter thingy, but I was reading the Lizzies Twitter… feed (?), well, the thing that clumps everything with the #lizzies tag or whatnot.
It was great, even the spambots got involved!
-
Congratulations Mark on your Lizzies win!
-
congratumalatoryationzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
OK guyirls, now, I’ve got a thing wit Mass Effect 3 info stuff, that you may wish to look at. However, be warned, it’s from CVG, so it’s probably complete fiction.
http://www.computerandvideogames.com/297331/news/mass-effect-3-first-details/?cid=OTC-RSS&attr=CVG-General-RSS
In case you can’t be bothered checking (or only visit sites whose journalists have integrity), as well as some info on characters, it says that the RPG elements are being beefed up (I originally typed that as effed up, could this be a dire warning? No), all classes can carry all weapons, but will be limited in the number, and weapon mods will appear.
So, if any of it is true, GOOD NEWS!
-
The story also looks pretty cool.
We get to see Kaidan/Ashley again!
-
I pretty much read it as “reintroducing Mass Effect 1 RPG elements”. Which I thought was one of the better parts of ME1, so I am okay with this.
Guess I have to go buy Lair of Shadow Broker and Arrival DLC though. :<Also, who is James Sanders? I hope he's a Colonel.
-
If he is, then it would be just like Assassins Creed 2, when Mario introduces himself. I will sit, staring at the screen for five seconds, and then proceed to facepalm my glasses off my face.
-
Haha, I loved that bit. It was so bad it was great!
-
-
Hey guys,
Thanks for all the congrats – really chuffed. Just wanted to thank all of you guys for everything. This may sound weird, but it’s impossible to try and write good stuff if you don’t have a great audience who you know will respond.
You guys always respond, you guys are smart, funny, knowledgable and you have to be good to write for people like that! I don’t have a choice!
Oh! And we cracked 1000 without noticing. BOOOOOOOOM!
-
Congrats to you all. We await debauched/drunken #winning photos…..
-
I was sitting at home last night, wondering how to find out who won the Lizzies, and the best I could manage was the results from three years ago, and I completely forgot about twitter. So, Good work Mark, you deserve it, and yes, we know, we’re awesome.
-
Yeah, I had mad plans to update, but then my phone died…
-
Did you get and or give your chinese burns??? I was wondering why you were hardly tweeting! Is it possible to hear your acceptance speech, I heard it was a goodun!
Oh, and, TACOS, whilst awesome, must be THE MOST DIFFICULT FOOD TO EAT IN A SPIFFY SUIT/DRESS WITHOUT EXPENSIVE DRY-CLEANING BILLS! Who Makes These Stupid Decisions!I’d have chosen to serve spaghetti.
-
I’d have chosen for the entrée soup (because there’s always some entrée soup) to be unleashed upon the crowd using the fire dowsing sprinkler system that the building was sure to have.

-
I don’t think I got to say it yet, sooo… CONGRATS!! I wasn’t sure who won what in all the twitter chaos, but Bajo’s photo of you up on stage was undeniable. Well done!
-
Hadn’t even thought of checking Bajos Twitter..I want to hear Marks acceptance speech. I hope that “Peg Leg” took over and he cut some crazy promo bout how he desreved to win, ripped his shirt off and stormed off stage.
-
Ol’ “Peg Leg” Serrels.
Congrats Allure people! Was keeping half an ear out on Twitter last night, great to see the news.
And yeah, we need to hear that speech 😀

: )
Someone smells like victory!!
Not me, alas, i accidentally fell asleep very, very early and spent all night having dreams about Mark Zuckerberg. is he watching me now? STAY OUT OF MY DREAMS ZUCKERBERG!!! . . . stay out of my dreams.
imagine that, Mark Zuckerberg, just last night, was in my dreams. He was at my house, driving my car, just living large and doing it all Zuckerberg style.
i think it was some kind of Leonardo DiCaprio-inception kind of deal. Did i want Mark Zuckerberg in my dreams?
No and no as the case was and will continue to be for all time, baby.
i prefer dreaming about Irina Shayk, Leonardo “king of the world” DiCaprio and – to a lesser extent – Fozzie Bear; i’m just watching. But, the point is, the dream meant nothing.
Just subconscious electrical activity, a cognitive misfire, something unidentifiable.
That wasn’t actually the real point i was trying to make; i took some kind of detour into somewhere; how am i supposed to know? i thought you were keeping score!!
This is kind of out of control freight train that has become synonymous with the work of Mark Zuckerberg, he is to blame, you can’t just push a 50 tonne boulder off a cliff to see what happens, Zuckerberg! Really bad idea, man. i hope, i pray, i have better dreams tonight.
Another night with Mark Zuckerberg would push me over the very precipice, that’s right, over the precipice into some Zuckerberg inspired abyss.
it’d be like some kind of book that has lots of pictures of faces in it, all screaming and yelling and indecipherable and narcissistic and frightening and inescapable. i chose a hell of a weekend to stop drinking.
What does it mean when you dream that you’re falling?
i feel so itchy; i’m going down to the river for a swim. i also threw my last packet of cigarettes in the bin, so that means i’m going to have to spend the rest of the day smoking disgusting discarded-not-already-smoked-down-to-the-filter cigarettes; it’s called recycling and i’ll thank you not to stare.
anyway, with your winning ways, i hope you’re playing it straight down the line Zuckerberg-style.
Just all out: demand that no one looks you in the eyes, don’t take any guff, demand valet parking everywhere (everywhere) you go, wear sunglasses at night, never talk to anybody, and forget about all your old friends, you don’t need them anymore.
You’ve made it, cowboy; this is the big time.
in this country, you gotta make the money first. Then when you get the money, you get the power. Then when you get the power, then you get the women.
The world is yours.
And above all else, don’t thank anyone for this award, Serrels. it wasn’t them, Mark, it was you. Remember that night in the Garden you came down to my dressing room and you said, “Kid, this ain’t your night. We’re going for the price on Wilson.” You remember that? “This ain’t your night”! My night! i coulda taken Wilson apart! So what happens? He gets the title shot outdoors on the ballpark and what do i get? A one-way ticket to Palooka-ville! You was my brother, Serrels, you shoulda looked out for me a little bit. You shoulda taken care of me just a little bit so i wouldn’t have to take them dives for the short-end money. i coulda had class. i coulda been a contender. i coulda been somebody, instead of a bum, which is what i am, let’s face it. it was you, Mark.
But, all the same, bloody crack shot at the bullseye, hombre and so forth and so on (so to speak).
i guess the message we can take away from this is girls just want to have fun; that’s all they really want, that’s all they really want (etc). With love, coconut oil and pool noodles as i look for my red speedos in the (neighbour’s) shed,
Plainview (is unmistakably: #losing).
: (-
Plainview.
This is a little difficult for me to say, and I understand that it’s rather sudden, what with me having no idea who or what you really are. But please, Plainview, have my babies.
I have a pile of like twelve of them, so I’d appreciate it if you could take a few off my hands…
-
I love you, so much.
-
-
Awwwww! <3
It was awesome to follow on Twitter: even though I mostly follow the Allure guys so it may be skewed, you got the best feedback on Twitter by far – everyone thought you totally deserve the kudos.
And, in addition to that, it was totally worth it to save my first tweets to congratulate you, Elly and the rest of the tech guys – you all do a brilliant job.
A couple of things’re eating away at me though – d’you have an early night or celebrate? Any chance we can hear the speech?!
-
I went home first, a little after 11pm. Not sure how long the boys carried on for after I left…
-
aww cinderella had to leave before midnight! sad.. did you leave your glass slipper behind?
In all seriousness though, you guys totally deserve the win! So glad Mr Serrels finally got some serious recognition from people other than us! -
I don’t think you missed much. Except for maybe… http://img826.imageshack.us/img826/9567/after11k.jpg
-
And yes, Mark is not only bald, but loses his legs and clothes after 11. Thats how wild it was.
-
*legs = arms
-
I love your comic style! Draw moreeeeeeeee.
-
-
Lol I wouldn’t be surprised… all the cool stuff goes down in the office when I’m not there.
-
…I know Plainview has a claim on your heart, but how do you feel about polyamory? 😛
-
I’m cool with that (I so had to google that word btw).
-
-
One of the best film scenes EVER! Spoilers by the way, for those that havent seen ‘Moon’. And if you haven’t, why not? Go watch it, today! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2C_VGqSaBgM
Okay, I caved in:
-
Well done sire! May your gaming adventures be long and fruitful this time!
-
Cool! What bundle did you get?
-
The 250gb pack…
I tried to get the 250gb + 4 games at EB (with WILDGOOSE-APPROVED™ Far Cry 2) but they didn’t have any in stock.
I figured it would’ve cost me the same or more if I’d repaired the old one ($150), bought a 250gb HDD (someday… my 120gb was getting full) and a controller.
-
Had my second Double.
Pro Tip: Zinger is definitely the way to go.
My xBox RROD’d yesterday. This morning, it won’t even turn on. 🙁
Will be gameless for the foreseeable future, as we are way in debt, and have no free $$ for repair/replacement. [sobs]
-
Whats going on with everyones xbox!? *eyes mine suspiciously*
That sucks tho, I feel for you.
-
Deepest sympathies 🙁
