Fun Facts You Might Not Know About The Legend Of Zelda

Fun Facts You Might Not Know About The Legend Of Zelda

There’s always more to learn about all the Zelda games Nintendo released over the years. The trivia-themed series Did You Know Gaming offers some fun facts from the first Zelda game to Skyward Sword in their latest video.

My personal favourite is the bit about the two failed CDI games, but there’s a lot more in this six-minute clip:

  • During development of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past Miyamoto wanted to include a party of characters, like in Final Fantasy.
  • In early versions of the first Zelda game, the old man at the beginning would give a choice between a boomerang and a wooden sword.
  • In the debug menu of Majora’s Mask it’s possible to access an unused and really funny cutscene of the fairy.
  • In Skyward Sword the design for the Loftwing creatures derives some inspiration from real world animals, including the designer’s pet shiba.
  • The seventh dungeon in Twilight Princess has uncanny similarities with an art piece called “Another World” by M.C. Escher.
  • In The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening the lonely letter writer Mr. Write is based on the adviser character Dr. Wright from the SNES port of Sim City (and Dr. Wright is based on Will Wright, the creator of Sim City).
  • Wind Waker and Minish Cap have some very subtle references to Pikmin.
  • And finally, we get some closure on those two Philips CD-i games, Link: The Faces of Evil and Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon, and why they were failures.
