Jason Chan once worked at Massive Black (and also once drew Kotaku mascots). He’s now at Riot Games, the guys who make League of Legends.
I’m not the world’s biggest League of Legends fan, but hot damn, every time I see the character art for the game I get tempted. It’s a testament to not just the artists involved, but the chaotic nature of the game’s lore itself, that you can throw so many different styles into one game and still somehow have it all (for the most part) come together.
These illustrations, all done by Chan, are for the respective character’s splash pages.
You can see more of Jason’s work at his personal site and ArtStation page.

ergh, i personally hate League’s character designs, they are too cartoony for me, also the fact that every female character has to have large breasts and cleavage, even their spider character has breasts.
While Dota’s worst “fan service”-ey character Queen of Pain is pretty bad, at least her design reflects that she is a succubus, unlike in LOL where even great warriors show cleavage. Also Dota’s female spider character is actually just a huge scary spider, seriously look up Broodmother, she’s terrifying.
Still, designs aside LOL’s still a good game, not my choice of MOBA but i’ll go back to it every now and again for fun.
Get over the tits n arse mate..
The game is pretty good..
Fyi jynx is flat
The cartoony design is what put me off trying LoL. It works in a non-serious format (a la Borderlands), but when you are investing so much time into a game, and you are serious when you are playing the game, I want a more mature art style.
QoP is a very sexualized character design… but that’s in keeping with the lore. She’s a freaking sex demon! Compare it to Legion Commander, where if the armour didn’t have breasts then it would fit right onto a male model.
If you think every female character has big breasts then you clearly haven’t seen Jinx http://forums.na.leagueoflegends.com/board/attachment.php?attachmentid=788522&d=1380246790
I only see two chicks with large breasts among these images. It’s actually surprisingly diverse.
just not true, the most recent character Reksai is a girl and looks like nothing but a monster, anivia looks like a bird that’s it.
even here the bubble girl three up is hardly sexualized. She looks like a girl. the last one, tryndamere looks far more sexualized, he just happens to be a he so it’s ok.
Broodmothers voice is awesome. But at the end of the day Slark is best hero.
God, I LOVE LoL’s character designs and art. The world-building, backstories… there’s so much rich colour and depth there, levels of polish and detail you’ll never see in the actual game.
I really hope someone makes a proper game out of this stuff one day.
News flash guys. If you’re playing lol and are zoomed in enough to see cleavage, you’re playing the game wrong. The in-game character models are on par with Dota 2 imo
What’s with all the LoL posts being made?
Hahaha. The girl characters are almost all sexual creatures and the guy characters are all burly, bearded and holding large phallic objects.
To be fair, a lot of the females are holding large, phallic objects too.
That’s generally how advertising works.
