We’ve seen games go from retail-only to digital distribution, but there aren’t many examples going the other way. Well, Terraria‘s decided to add itself to this exclusive group, with this (sadly) Europe-only collector’s edition box.
Can you believe I’m working during the Christmas holidays? No, me neither. But I don’t mind, it’s not like my job is hard or anything. It also helps when I’m the bearer of Christmas joy, like this for example — Terraria, perhaps one of the best indie titles of 2011, is now 75 percent cheaper on Steam. Yep, it’s selling for $2.50. Less than a can of coke from 7-11.
Terraria is a 2D game that has often (and somewhat unfairly) been called “Minecraft in 2D”. Not that the four developers care, since they’ve just sold 200,000 copies in a little over a week.
Forgive the crude comparisons to those two beloved games, for neither is perfectly adequate at describing what the upcoming Terraria is all about. Perhaps because Terraria looks nuts, an amalgam of exploration, world-building, action and adventure.
