Tell Us Dammit

Dammit, we want you to tell us stuff! Stuff like your worst gaming injuries.

This isn’t some marketing survey or whatever. It’s an emotional investment in you. Yes, we’re interested in knowing you, Kotaku reader person. You probably know enough about us — more than you even want to, we’re sure. But, hey, we’d like to know about you, too.

Anyway, here’s today’s question...

Have you ever injured yourself gaming? Or injured anyone else thanks to a flying controller or some other multiplayer incident?

I've choked a few times trying to stuff down some food between deaths (they happen a lot...) in Quake Live CA.

The worst though was getting Vindaloo in my eye, caused by a freak 'dropping container really quickly to cast a clutch heal' accident.

No flying controller incidents, but I have played Soul Blade and Soul Calibur until my blisters grew blisters, and my fingers literally bled.

Also, have callouses on the tips of my fingers on my left hand from when I used to play Guitar Hero or Rock Band every night.

Does biting your tongue count? Coz that happens rather frequently.

Or getting blisters on your thumbs from playing the drums in Guitar Hero?

Definitely the finger pain caused by Guitar Hero 3 after playing Raining Blood on expert.

Sort of gaming related, though the game wasn't the cause. I was playing a game and someone walked up behind me and scared the crap out of me, which made me jump and then slip off the edge of my chair. My chair is one of those ones with 5 wheels on the bottom, and as I went down, I smashed my coxix on the leg :0 So hard to sit with a bruised coxix :(

Mario Party 64, any minigame which required rotating the joystick quickly. Always resulted in ripped up palms.

I got hurt only last night playing a videogame!

I got Madden 11 yesterday and played some last night. It broke my heart to see how little effort was put into the upgrades from Madden 10, and it will hurt even more when the sales figures are released and compared to Backbreaker, a lessor-known football game, unlicensed, which just released a completely-free, gamechanging update only days ago.

Ouch, my heart hurts for developer 505 Games.

I like you. But you are a perfect example of what nay motion are up against. There was a demo and nothing really innovative announced but you and many others bought the game. Backbreaker will soon be half the money of madden due to poor sales so hopefully you will get a decent trade in. I urge you to buy backbreaker if you do.

Mario Party calluses. From using your palm in those damned 'rotate the joystick' mini-games.
I cannot be the only one!

N64 controller palm blisters were a regular occurrence during my childhood!

Never injured myself but a friend gave me a few hits once when I keep killing her in Halo 3.

I have. I was playing some crappy flash game on newgrounds many years ago. It was one of those games that gets its appeal from being almost impossible to finish, while still being oddly addictive. Anyway for whatever reason I was chewing on the top of a plastic pen lid. After I died within the final section of a level that requires the precision and patience of a gaming god, I instinctively clenched my teeth from the frustration. I forgot the pen lid was in my mouth and broke one of my teeth.

Over the last new year break, I spent way too much time playing FIFA, Arkham Asylum and Borderlands on the 360 and started developing a really horrible pain in my left wrist. I noticed that the pain was particularly sharp when the controller was rumbling, so I tried turning the feature off at the console level. The pain went away and hasn't returned since.

So now I'm an old man who can't handle rumbling controllers. But you know what? I really don't miss it at all! Damn punk kids and their rumble...

right wrist and hand often really hurts, probably from over use of my laptop, mouse at work and gaming...

other than that nothing worse than bad cramp from too much guitar hero

Broke a couple of toes when I rage quit and the controller bounced.

Do blood shot buzzing eyes count? A few times playing late into the night for around 8-10 hours straight. Curse you turn based RTS games. Just one turn more syndrome...

You know it's time to pack it in when your eyes are buzzing and you look like you've been out all night drinking. When in reality the strongest stuff you've had is maybe a few cans of coke. Well at least my liver got a night off...

Someone once threw a gameboy at me. Hit me in the face.

I have had my feelings hurt by 10 year olds throwing the hate around on the PSN. They call me names.

GAME have started taking orders for Call of Duty Black Ops Prestige edition that includes the RC car with built in vide camera and mic which sends its footage to the remote with a little LCD screen!!! Who would have though that activision would top the NVG's!!!

oops didnt realise there was a theme for the topic, Thought it was random talkings about games and though I'd give everyone a heads up...

I was lining up the perfect head shot in CS:S when my mate would find it funny to throw a frozen mars bar at me, only he missed ht my LCD screen and it died... He got me a new one but yeah it sucked but yeah I've never been hurted playing games lol

I strained or sprained or something my left foot playing DDR once. I was limping for a week in pain, much to the amusement of my co-workers.

i had a guitar hero controller smashed over my head at a party once. it taught me 2 lessons

    1. if a drunk is being a tosser playing through fire and flames on easy don't call them a nub

    2. It's seriously a bad idea to stick around at a party after part of its entertainment has been broken over your head
