Game Over, Yeah? NO! SEGA Rally Online Arcade Announced!

Just when you thought it was game over, yeah for the Sega Rally franchise, they slot some coins into the machine and press restart with SEGA Rally Online Arcade, which was just announced today.

SEGA Rally Online Arcade is a downloadable title that will be made available on Xbox LIVE and the PSN at some point in 2011, and features a number of new online modes, in addition to the time trial style racing the franchise is known for.

“We’ve blended our hit arcade racing series with the best elements from the console versions to bring our fans the SEGA Rally experience in compact, downloadable format,” said Haruki Satomi, Vice President of Digital Business at SEGA. “Whether they’re new to the SEGA Rally series or they’ve participated in countless races over the years, we’re confident everyone will enjoy the wide variety of features included in this fan favourite.”

New features include online leaderboards, a Championship mode and, of course, the online racing mode which allows you to play with up to five other racers online.

We're a little bit excited about this, having enjoyed a misspent youth plunking lunch money dollars into SEGA Rally during high school. Check out some of the new screens below.

Post over, yeaaaaaah!

Looks like they've taken the terrain deformation out of the last title and not much else. Should be pretty good provided they hit the right price point from day one.

lol it'll be 1200 points easy... anyone that thinks it'll be less is kidding themselves i reckon...

if it IS 800 points... thank ourselves lucky!

Oh yeah. This brings back memories. Tomorrow they'll announce the pricing structure...

"Please Insert 10 MS Points to continue" :P

I still want Daytona and SCUD Racer :)

Holy crap man! I had totally forgotten about SCUD racer...what a great arcade game! I remember you could play as the cat!

I remember showing of my shiny(well actually, matte) new Dreamcast just after launch to my mate with Sega Rally 2. I inevitably fell just short of a checkpoint and the Dreamcast was never mentioned again in his presence without him dropping to his knees with a GAME OVER, YEEEAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!. Probably worse for him, looking back.

Looks like the Sega Rally that came out a few years ago, though as Awnshegh says, minus the terrain deformation.

I enjoyed that Sega Rally - hell, I even liked the terrain deformation aspect. It was a good little racer, making you fight for first place. Though it did get a bit long in the tooth (I've played through a fair bit of the career mode but it repeated a lot of tracks).
