‘Can Snake Eat Yoshi Meat In Metal Gear Solid 3D?’ And Other Questions Kojima Productions Didn’t Answer

We definitely know that Konami and Kojima Productions are bringing PlayStation 2 game Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater to the Nintendo 3DS. And we’re sure of a few other things about this stereoscopic 3D remake. But I’m not 100 per cent sure about that Yoshi cameo.

The dinosaur from Nintendo’s Super Mario World appeared in the latest trailer for Metal Gear Solid 3D: Snake Eater, without much explanation. The PlayStation 2 original featured a cameo from Sony’s Ape Escape monkeys, which star in the “Snake Vs Monkey” mini-game, so perhaps he’s a replacement. Konami wouldn’t confirm when I asked.

Konami is definitely on record about a few Metal Gear Solid 3D things. The 3DS port takes advantage of the platform’s unique features. There’s touchscreen and gyroscope control, for example. Players can also use the 3DS’s cameras to take pictures, then use those images as camouflage patterns.

Metal Gear Solid 3D also implements a handful of Metal Gear innovations from PSP entry Peace Walker, like over-the-shoulder aiming and the CO-OPS cooperative gameplay mode.

The team is also considering bringing more Metal Gear games to the Nintendo 3DS, but has nothing to announce. Just don’t assume that since Metal Gear Solid 3 is the first 3DS game, that it would be the last. They even mentioned MGS4 as a possibility.

So, we know that. Here are three questions I didn’t get clear answers on, so you can’t accuse me of not asking these hard-hitters. Note that the last question is potentially a spoiler(!) if you haven’t played Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

Wondering why Yoshi appears in the game’s E3 2011 trailer, I ask…

How will Yoshi be used in Metal Gear Solid 3D?
Still secret at this point.

Because Snake can kill and consume things (like snake meat) to regain his stamina, I wondered…

Will Snake be able to eat Yoshi for sustenance?
(laughs) Well, we’ll have to see what Nintendo says about that.

Finally, since seeing the Nintendo 3DS’s stereoscopic 3D effects requires two eyes, I inquired…

Since this is a 3D game and Snake loses his eye to Ocelet, will the 3D effect be altered in any way after Snake loses the ability to see with both eyes?
That’s a very good question actually, but we can’t answer it. Sorry.

They better be sorry. I worked really hard on those questions!
